Some shares gained more than others, particularly in the tech sector.In his first term, Trump took drastic steps that changed the tech landscape. This time may be similar.So what has the stock market told us so far about which <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-presidency-affect-big-tech-2024-11">Big Tech</a> companies might be winners and losers during a Trump second term?For clues on this, Business Insider looked at the two-day performance of many of the largest tech companies by market capitalization. Investors may be concerned that Trump will impose stricter and broader tariffs on China, where most of Apple's iPhones are manufactured."Apple CEO Tim Cook famously got on very well with Trump and successfully excluded Apple products from Chinese tariffs; a potential blanket tariff, however, which Trump has pledged to implement, would hurt badly," tech blogger <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://stratechery.com/2024/president-trump-take-two-big-tech-little-tech-chips-and-hardware-elon-musks-triumph/">Ben Thompson wrote</a> this week in his newsletter Stratechery.To be sure, Apple is not a loser here because its stock still rallied as the whole market jumped after the Trump victory. However, among the stocks BI looked at, it has seen the smallest gains over these two days.TSMC also stands out for its meager performance in this period. The Taiwan-based chipmaker works closely with Apple on iPhone chips. If Trump tariffs send the global supply chain into a spin, that could be bad for TSMC, too. <h2 id="dbcf2173-a94f-494e-9e39-49f315815198">Tesla on top</h2><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-election-victory-tesla-shares-elon-musk-ev-president-2024-11">Tesla</a> has had the best market performance in this period. CEO <a target="_blank" rel="" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-presidential-election-stakes-2024-11">Elon Musk</a> gave his full support to Trump's second election bid.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-praises-elon-musk-a-star-is-born-2024-11">Trump on Wednesday</a> praised <a target="_blank" rel="" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-presidential-election-stakes-2024-11">Musk</a>."We have a new star, a star is born," he told boisterous supporters a few hours before the election was called in his favor. "Elon. He is an amazing guy."BI reporter Ana Altchek previously wrote about the potential benefits of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-won-election-what-that-means-for-elon-musk-2024-11">Musk's successful support</a> of Trump. While Trump could pull electric vehicle government incentives, Tesla has already reached scale and makes billions of dollars in profit now, giving it a big potential advantage over other US EV makers.<h2 id="88e27b23-bfe8-4512-8e49-876ade83f9a0">Google gains</h2>Google is somewhat surprising as a big stock gainer in the past two trading days. Trump has criticized the search giant over the years, so his election would seem to be negative for the company. However, Trump could roll back regulations and rules for businesses, which might benefit Google. Parent Alphabet owns autonomous driving company Waymo, which could get a boost, while even small signs of lighter antitrust enforcement might help the company."Self-driving car regulation may be loosened, and investors may hope DOJ pressure could ease," Stefan Slowinski, a BNP Paribas Exane analyst, wrote in a note to investors after Trump's win.<h2 id="129c6728-940b-4ba4-b955-84c2446c0f42">Meta overhang?</h2>Meta shares have not performed that well in this period. Trump is not a fan of Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO. Meta "risks seeing a political overhang emerge," Slowinski wrote."Trump has long expressed personal animosity against Big Tech, which he sees as being in the bag for the Democratic party, and towards Meta in particular, thanks to the money CEO Mark Zuckerberg donated to voting initiatives in 2020 that Trump believes financed Democratic get-out-the-vote operations," Thompson wrote in Stratechery.<h2 id="a95cddcb-34e5-4f71-9e59-c2c38dba5a2e">'Shock absorber for the consumer'</h2>Slowinski highlighted other Big Tech stocks this week in his note to investors. "Amazon may also now see an overhang as 60% Chinese tariffs, as proposed by the President elect, could pressure margins in North America as Amazon reprises its role as 'the shock absorber for the consumer'," the analyst wrote. As for Microsoft, Slowinsky wrote that it "appears the most un-impacted by politics and new policies near term."

On Thursday, traders had more to cheer with the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates again by 25 basis points. Chair Jerome Powell said the central bank was feeling good about the economy, with more easing on the table, even as <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/bonds/surging-treasury-yields-after-trump-win-show-borrowers-may-not-get-relief-2024-11">bond markets repriced</a> this week in anticipation of higher borrowing costs under Trump's second term. At Friday's closing bell, stocks ended with their best weekly gain of 2024, with the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/s&amp;p_500">S&amp;P 500</a> and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/index/nasdaq_100">Nasdaq 100</a> jumping about 5%.Bitcoin, meanwhile, was continuing a record-setting run on Friday in the wake of Trump's win, with the token climbing past $76,500. "The Trump rally isn't over with stocks reaching fresh all-time highs as investors look ahead to tax cuts, deregulation. and Made in America policies to power future gains. Market participants are also catching a tailwind from a dovish Federal Reserve," said José Torres, senior economist at Interactive Brokers.Also helping push stocks to record this week were solid earnings, with third-quarter results starting to wrap up.So far, 90% of S&amp;P 500 companies have reported earnings results. Apple could be caught in the blowback.That's because a big part of the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-violated-antitrust-law-to-keep-search-monopoly-judge-rules-2024-8">government's case against Google</a> — that it has an illegal monopoly in search — focuses on deals Google makes with platforms and device-makers to be their default search engine.And the biggest one of those is the one Apple has with Google, where Google pays Apple tens of billions of dollars a year — <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-apple-iphone-search-engine-safari-deal-20-billion-2022-2024-5">$20 billion in 2022 alone</a> — to have pole position on the iPhone.Judge Amit P. Mehta's ruling, which holds that those deals are inhibiting competition, doesn't include his remedy. And Google says it plans to appeal his decision regardless. But if the ruling is ultimately upheld, and requires Google to stop making exclusive search deals, then it could threaten what's become an incredibly lucrative revenue stream for Apple."As this process continues, we will remain focused on making products that people find helpful and easy to use," Kent Walker, Google's top lawyer and public policy executive, said in a statement. I've asked Apple for comment as well.Apple is so giant — it generated nearly $400 billion in revenue last year — that even a $20 billion deal may not seem like that much to the company. And that number likely won't go to zero. Whether Google gets replaced by a competitor like Bing, or if it keeps working with iPhone but under different terms, Apple will still likely be able to get very good money leasing out real estate on its phones.Still, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-advertising-google-search-services-filings-2024-5">the existing Google deal is a key part of Apple's "services" business</a>. And as we've pointed out many times, growing its high-margin services revenue has become crucial for Apple as its core business — selling iPhones — slows down or even declines. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-aapl-stock-quarterly-earnings-call-report-live-updates-2024-7#i-phone-sales-are-slowing-but-services-boomed">You can see it in the company's most recent quarter, where its hardware business increased by $1 billion — and services grew by $3 billion</a>.So anything that puts a dent in that story is a concern for Apple. You could see that live in real time on Monday afternoon, when Apple's share price, which was already reeling as part of the general tech sell-off, lurched downward again once Mehta's ruling went public. Now, the price has recovered, presumably because it's too early to tell what, exactly, this will mean for Apple. But it's certainly not nothing.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A grocery magnate turned robotics leader has had $9 billion wiped off his net worth this year.</li><li>Rick Cohen ranks among the biggest wealth losers after a 41% drop in his personal fortune.</li></ul>A grocery tycoon turned robotics guru has had $9 billion wiped off his net worth after shares of his AI-powered company crashed, making him one of the world's biggest wealth losers this year.Rick Cohen, 72, is the owner and executive chairman of C&amp;S Wholesale Grocers, a food distributor founded by his grandfather. He's turned the family business into the eighth most-valuable private company in America with an estimated value of $35 billion, per Forbes.Cohen is also the founder and CEO of Symbotic, which makes AI-enabled warehouse robots for customers including <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walton-family-sam-walmart-stock-billionaires-estate-planning-inheritance-wealth-2024-8">Walmart</a>, and went public via special-purpose acquisition vehicle in the summer of 2022.He was worth $21.4 billion at the start of January. That would put Cohen in 94th spot on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index all else being equal.However, his wealth has plunged by 41% to $12.6 billion this year, pushing him down to 178th place.
