During a recent appearance on the "Today" show with host Hoda Kotb, the three revealed that they were relaxing by their backyard pool when they noticed that Bridon and Christian's dad Brad — who'd been doing "breathing exercises" underwater — appeared to be unresponsive. </p><p>Bridon and Sam both jumped in to pull Brad from the water, while Christian ran to the street to get help from a passing car.</p><p>Bridon then performed CPR on his dad, but told Kotb that he'd never taken a CPR class in his life. <ul class="summary-list"><li>I have a 4-year-old son and missed registration for summer camp. </li><li>I wanted to give him the kinds of summers I had growing up in the 1990s. </li></ul><p>I had a mom-fail moment when I realized I hadn't registered my 4-year-old son for <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mom-shares-how-hard-sign-up-kids-for-swim-lessons-2023-1">swimming lessons</a> and summer camp before the cutoff. His day care closes for the summer, and while I will have some part-time care, I panicked thinking of the slew of unstructured days that lay ahead of us. I felt plagued with guilt that my son would be missing opportunities to develop core memories and critical skills, not to mention I'd have less free time to write and read through the ever-expanding stack of books on my bedside table.</p><p>But, the other weekend I watched as my son played in a make-believe construction site <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/1000-hours-of-play-outside-2021-9">in our backyard</a> with the boys who live next door. Without plans or devices, they passed the afternoon with ease — and I even sneaked in a few chapters of my book with an iced coffee in the sun. If I let my mind wander back to those long, lazy, pre-internet days, summers were a time for riding bikes, sidewalk chalk, making daisy chains and friendship bracelets, running through the sprinkler, and existing on a diet of watermelon and popsicles.</p><p>The world looks a lot different now, but I'm planning on bringing this spirit to our summer by subscribing to these philosophies.</p><h2 id="f04f915a-fcf7-4af6-8237-9f659f8ad4cd"><strong>I'm letting him be bored</strong></h2><p>My TikTok algorithm serves me a daily stream of fun and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/easy-educational-things-parents-can-do-with-kids-at-home">educational activities</a> to do at home with my son. Because I want the best for him (and because I really just want some silence), I have tried many of them.</p><p>I'm typically frustrated when the activity inevitably doesn't go as planned and takes up a meager five minutes before we're onto the next thing.</p><p>Instead of frantically trying to fill every minute, I am going to leave room for boredom. When I was a kid, it was during those long, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/family-doesnt-enroll-kids-in-summer-camp-do-unstructured-play-2023-4">boring summer afternoons</a> that I formed my love of reading. I want my son to have the same opportunity to make fun out of nothing and let his imagination run wild.</p><h2 id="e127876a-8136-4767-8aa1-c53894aba2f1"><strong>Fewer screens, more time outside</strong></h2><p>While I'm not a screen-time stickler, I plan to turn off the TV this summer in favor of playing in the yard, walking to get ice cream, going for dips at the public pool, and spending the day at the beach. I yell less when I'm parenting outside, and the fresh air does wonders for my son's sleep and mood.</p><p>I will, however, not be denying evening screenings of '90s summer classics like "The Sandlot," "My Girl," and "Dazed and Confused" (when he's asleep, of course).</p><h2 id="a40ac40a-cff0-4662-a6db-d6cbf5a51843"><strong>I'm bringing lazy-mom dinner out</strong></h2><p>My parents didn't make me all organic meals in aesthetically pleasing bento boxes and I turned out just fine. Summer feels like the right time to loosen up and approach feeding my kid with a little more ease. That doesn't have to mean filling him with junk food, but I'll prioritize playing over making fussy dinners he probably won't eat anyway. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Amazon has announced that its Amazon One feature will soon be used to purchase alcohol.</li><li>The technology allows customers to have their age and payment information accessed by their palm.</li></ul><p>One day, you may soon be able to leave for a night out without your wallet or purse as Amazon has launched a "palm-based identity service" that scans your hand to pay for alcohol.</p><p>On May 22, the tech giant <a href="https://affiliate.insider.com?h=96f0f4dae9171c6403fc94da383e1d8f6463282b3ae0ecbb1e977f70040bcd00&amp;postID=64774e128c8a4f22b20c7ee4&amp;site=bi&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.aboutamazon.com%2Fnews%2Fretail%2Famazon-one-age-verification" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener sponsored">announced that Amazon One</a>, a scanner that can identify people based on their palm and allow them to make payments without reaching into their wallets, can now verify a person's age. The change would make purchasing alcohol at places like bars and ballgames a more seamless experience, per the announcement. Amazon's palm scanners are currently in use at its <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2023/5/22/23732823/amazon-one-palm-scanning-technology-age-verification" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Go stores and in more than 100 Whole Foods stores</a> around the US, The Verge reported.</p><p>Those who wish to sign up for the new technology must upload a selfie, pictures of the front and back of their government-issued ID. According to the announcement, the company does not store customers' IDs. The idea is to make it a simpler process to verify their age when buying a drink. The scanner analyzes surface details of an individual's palm and pulling up a "21+" message along with a selfie of the customer. </p><p>The company plans to showcase Amazon One's new feature at Coors Field, home of the Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball team, at the stadium's SandLot Brewery and Silver Bullet Bar, according the announcement.</p><p>"Hearing from Amazon One customers across the country, we understand that they love the convenience it delivers: shorter wait times, quick access to buildings and locations, being able to link their loyalty memberships, and now an easy way to grab their beer," John McKay, senior director of food service operations and development for the Colorado Rockies, said.</p><p>While large ballparks, which experience long lines of customers, could stand to benefit from a more frictionless process, one bar owner isn't convinced the technology is fully necessary at the average neighborhood bar. </p><h2>Palm scanning could change critical bar interactions</h2><p>Matt Hogan, the owner of Brooklyn's Irish Haven for the past 12 years, told Insider that the benefits of Amazon One depend on the volume of customers a bar receives. Irish Haven was a cash-only bar for decades before introducing digital payments in 2020, so Hogan is hesitant to implement palm payments and age verification.</p><p>Amazon One, Hogan said, could eliminate an important conversation between a bartender and patrons to determine if a person has been drinking prior to visiting his bar.</p><p>"When someone presents an ID, there's an exchange of, sort of, vetting that that person hasn't been over served somewhere else," Hogan said. "You learn a lot about a person in that first 10 to 20 seconds."</p><p> "Automation would take that away from me. Amazon introduces palm-scanning technology that would let customers buy a beer without reaching for their wallet at the bar

Disney never promised that all content would permanently stay on the service, but in a <a href="https://comicbook.com/2019/11/04/disney-plus-wont-remove-content-netflix-licensed-deals/">November statement</a>, a spokesperson clarified that animated classics like "Snow White" will remain available.</p><p>Movies may have been removed for other, preexisting streaming and licensing deals. Six <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/marvel">Marvel</a> movies are missing from the service for a variety of reasons. "Black Panther" and "Infinity War" are <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-some-marvel-cinematic-universe-movies-arent-on-disney-plus-2019-11">both on Netflix</a>, with plans to come to Disney Plus in the near future, although "Black Panther is already <a href="https://www.polygon.com/disney-plus/2020/1/2/21046851/films-leaving-disney-plus-home-alone-pirates-of-the-caribbean-dr-dolittle">set to return to Netflix</a> in 2026.</p><p>Hope isn't lost for films that have disappeared from the platform, or that were never there in the first place. Disney was able to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/why-some-marvel-cinematic-universe-movies-arent-on-disney-plus-2019-11">strike a deal</a> with Turner, the company that owns "<a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/star-wars">Star Wars"</a> broadcast rights, to make all but two of the films available for subscribers. The email called it a Chicago "co-working space that is 420 friendly."</p><div type="image" title="The bar at We Toke Club." height="2560" width="1708" msid="86758912" hostid="261"></div><p>A weed-friendly coworking space in Chicago? How are they making that work? I <em>had</em> to check it out.</p><p>Intrigued, I emailed back to get in touch with Mendoza and see what was going on for myself. </p><h2>The space</h2><p>Located in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood, We Toke Club is exactly what it claims to be: a cannabis-friendly coworking space. It's warm and inviting, with a contemporary, artsy coffeehouse vibe.</p><p>When I came in, I was greeted warmly by the manager, Ruben. A few patrons were sitting at the bar area, and a few others were scattered at various tables in the space. Patrons were smoking or consuming edibles. Most looked up and smiled, but quickly went back to their laptops. This was still a workspace, after all.</p><div type="image" title="The first floor of We Toke Club. A person is sitting at a table working." height="1409" width="1057" msid="86686679" hostid="261"></div><p>It was fairly busy on this Tuesday morning and seats were at a premium, which I wasn't expecting. Even though it was just my laptop and me, and the building's space included two floors, I still had to look around for a good place to sit. The upstairs section was blocked off because the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was holding their monthly meeting, which also made the kitchen very busy.</p><p>I opted for a seat at the bar for a while, logging onto the free wifi, drinking the bottomless coffee that comes with the membership, and briefly chatting with two people who were in the psychedelics industry. The club doesn't sell weed products due to its licensing agreement, but members are free to bring their own and indulge however and whenever they want - including giving it to the kitchen to infuse into the dishes on the menu.</p><div type="image" title="Food at We Toke Club." height="1520" width="2279" msid="86758913" hostid="261"></div><p>I found the outside sanded patio area to be the most fun and unique part of the place. With its seating and a tented area, it was a major draw. If I were to regularly work out of a cannabis-friendly space, this is what would most motivate me to make the trip. </p><p>And the patio isn't just for work - it's also available for private event buyouts, and on weekends, you can come in for movie nights and sporting events without guests having to deal with a raucous sports-bar atmosphere.</p><p>I took a break so that I could fully be present in that patio atmosphere. I sat back with my iced mocha cappuccino - the kitchen had infused it with the CBG oil I had brought with me. I was alert, with a strong caffeine buzz, but I was also relaxed, calm and comfortable. </p><div type="image" title="The outdoor area at We Toke Club, which is available for buyouts." height="1260" width="945" msid="86686682" hostid="261"></div><p>I grounded myself in the September breeze, kicking back on a lounge chair, taking in the greenery and sandlot around me. And it hit me right then that this was the one of the best things We Toke Club has to offer: the perfect space in which you can be productive, then take recharging breaks, center yourself, and maintain your inner balance. A great way to avoid burnout while achieving high productivity at the same time.  </p><h2>The vision</h2><p>I spent a few minutes chatting with owner Manny Mendoza to learn more about his vision and goals for We Toke Club. He was unassuming and very welcoming. </p><p>Mendoza spent several years in the San Diego <keyword id="11910359" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="cannabis" source="Orion">cannabis</keyword> community, working in California's legalized <keyword id="12224450" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="cannabis-industry" source="Orion">cannabis industry</keyword> prior to Illinois's legalization. </p><p>"We're fully licensed for food and alcohol here," Mendoza said. "This place is more than just a coworking space. I also want it to be an educational community about cannabis, forward-thinking with intention and purpose. This is going to be a hub, building community and culture, including BIPOC and women in the industry."</p><h2>How membership works</h2><p>We Toke Club isn't open to the public; it's a members-only club. That's how they make it work. They offer coffee, tea, breakfast items such as Mexican chilaquiles and fried chicken and waffles, and lunch items such as sandwiches with house-made bread, as well as vegan options.</p><p>Membership day rates for the club are currently $30, while the initial monthly rates are $180 for a member and a guest, but expect these rates to increase shortly. Members and their guests need to be 21 or over. For anyone interested in becoming a member, they can subscribe to the Herbal Notes's email newsletter for more information. Herbal Notes sends out updates as to when memberships are available for purchase, on a first-come-first serve basis.</p><p>"People come from all over," Mendoza said while showing me the kitchen. "We've got 25 members so far, and this is only our second month." Carlos, the chef, managed to take the time to say hello as he multi-tasked.</p><div type="image" title="The club's kitchen." height="1526" width="1145" msid="86686685" hostid="261"></div><p>"We're working on our own licensed infused oil products though through a partnership with a license holder," Mendoza added. "The oils will be available for purchase at local dispensaries for members to bring to the club. We're really excited about these infusions because we're not only going to focus on THC. We're also going to include CBD-only choices, also focusing on terpenes and flavor. It's not just about getting high."</p><p>And where does Mendoza see federal legalization going? "I see it happening within 5 years," he said.</p><h2>Bottom line</h2><p>Are you wondering if you'll get anything done if you try to work out of a weed coworking space? Assuming you're a reasonably disciplined person, you'll be pleasantly surprised. </p><p>The members at We Toke Club were focused and working. The club had a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, even a communal one, but not a party vibe. So if you're a weed enthusiast, you work remote, or you're a solopreneur, this could be a great fit for you.</p><p>The only drawback for a cannabis-friendly coworking space is that it might be hard to attract people who live far away over a long period of time. Once the initial novelty of the space wears off, people may just prefer to work at home. </p><div type="image" title="The club's outside patio." height="1235" width="926" msid="86686688" hostid="261"></div><p>My biggest takeaway from We Toke Club is that it is more than just a coworking space. Any coffeehouse or shared office can offer coworking, but We Toke Club is much more than that. I found that I could go to the club to work alone if I wanted to, or to network and get to know others, or both. I could come back with a group, or hold a special event. </p><p>It's a community - a place in which you can find like-minded people with shared culture and values. That's the X factor that will make me return, as it will for others as well.</p>

I tried a '420-friendly' coworking space with smoking, edibles, and a weed-infused menu. Here's why I'll go back.

Here's everything leaving Netflix in August that you need to watch

<p>We've known for a while that Bryce Harper is extremely good at hitting baseballs, but last night, we got a look at just how much power is behind his swing.</p><p>In the second inning of Thursday night's game against the Orioles, the Nationals star hit a foul ball so hard he ripped a hole in it. A cameraman was lucky enough to capture the ball as it came off Harper's bat and ricocheted directly toward the camera.</p><p>Soon after, the Nationals had recovered the ball, posting it to their twitter feed along with an A+ "The Sandlot" reference.</p><p>Beyond hitting the skin off a ball, Harper had a pretty good night, going 3-4 with a double, a run, and an RBI for the game. Bryce Harper hit a ball so hard he literally knocked the cover off it

"I'd turn on the television and see and listen to Dr. King, but I didn't know any black people. So, I wanted to work here."</span></p><p>Biden made the most of his homecoming, even sitting in the pool's lifeguard chair perched above the pool.</p><p>A photo of Biden beaming in the lifeguard chair instantly made the rounds on social media.</p><h3>Several users took the opportunity to joke about a potential Biden presidential bid in 2020. Twitter went crazy over a photo of Joe Biden in a lifeguard chair

<p>Since many summer analysts are over 21, they're probably going to go out and drink with their team or fellow interns. They're also still going to have to be at work the following morning and they'll be expected to perform. </p>
<p>On Wall Street vet told us a cautionary tale about the time he had to sprint out of an international conference call to throw up after a night of partying. </p>
<p>"I was so f------g hungover," the former banker, who is now in his 40s, told us.</p>
<p>One of his managing directors was kind enough to buy him a car service back to New Jersey following the incident. </p>
<p>"I was happy I didn't get sacked," he told us, "And thrilled he bought me a car service-because I definitely would have thrown up on New Jersey Transit."</p>
<p>The next day he showed up to work and told his managing director he had the "stomach flu."</p>
<p>The MD replied: "Yeah, I used to get those 'stomach flus' too after Thursday nights back when I was you age-Don't let it happen again." </p>
<p>Secretly, the young analyst wanted to reply, "Are you kidding? If you're 24 years-old, working at a bank, and not going out on Thursday nights there's something seriously wrong with you." </p>
<p>Instead, he just stared at the ground.</p>
<p>It's not college anymore. </p>

The Time An Analyst Was So Hungover He Threw Up During A Conference Call

<p>Even though the two countries technically share a language, British English and American English have major differences. For one thing, the British place punctuation marks <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">outside quotation marks (gasp). The Brits also have their own, unique vocabulary.</span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">In fact, people in the U.S. don't even recognize some words in the U.K.'s lexicon - and vice-versa, according to the <a href="http://crr.ugent.be/">Center for Reading Research</a>.</span></p>
<p><span>To get a better sense of these unfamiliar words, Center director </span><a href="http://gnodevel.ugent.be/crr.ugent.be/archives/1637">Marc Brysbaert</a><span> looked at the first 600,000 results of the Ghent University's </span><a href="http://vocabulary.ugent.be/wordtest/start">online vocabulary test</a><span>, focusing on differences in location. <span>In the test, 100 letter sequences - which may or may not be real English words - flash across the takers' screens. Pressing the "j" (instead of "f") key indicates the participants know the word exists in English, even if they don't understand it. The test strongly penalizes participants for marking they know a word that doesn't exist. </span></span></p>
<p><span><span>With the 40 words below, a margin of 50% or more existed between the U.K. and U.S. respondents who reported knowing the terms. </span></span></p>

The Words That Are Most Known To Only Brits And Americans

<p><div class="image-container float_right"><div class="image"><img src="http://static2.businessinsider.com/image/523b508569bedd2238647574-1200-900/johnny-manziel-texas-am-19.jpg?maxX=480" border="0" alt="johnny manziel texas am" width="480" /><p class="source on-image">Scott Halleran/Getty Images</p></div></div>Earlier this week SI's Peter King reported that some <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-teams-think-johnny-manziel-parties-too-much-2013-9">NFL teams have deemed Johnny Manziel "undraftable"</a> because of off-field concerns involving his drinking and partying.</p>
<p>But when you take away the non-football issues, <keyword id="103436" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="NFL">NFL</keyword> people are starting to come around on Johnny Football as a player.</p>
<p>Scouts and commentators who were skeptical on Manziel last year now think he can make it in the pros.</p>
<p>The consensus on Manziel is that his instincts are so good that his weaknesses don't matter as much. He is calm and elusive against the pass rush, he's as fast as Colin Kaepernick, and he has such good balance on the run that he can turn negatie plays into positive plays.</p>
<p>He's a natural, to put it another way. <a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2013/09/17/johnny-manziel-nfl-future/">Ex-Browns GM Phil Savage told SI this week</a>, "He has eight eyeballs."</p>
<p>The weakest parts of Manziel's game are his height and his arm strength. But there's now a precedent for small QBs succeeding in the NFL (Russell Wilson, Drew Brees), and scouts say his arm strength improved dramatically over the summer.</p>
<p>Here's a sampling of what NFL guys are saying about him.</p>
<p>Nick Saban, who coached the Dolphins before returning to Alabama (<a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2013/09/17/johnny-manziel-nfl-future/">via SI</a>):</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">"I think Johnny's a unique player. Many people have said about these guys, like [Robert Griffin III], that they're not really NFL-style quarterbacks. But yet they're all doing pretty well in the NFL.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">"I think when somebody's as instinctive as [Manziel] is, and as fast as he is, and as athletic as he is, and he's developing into a pretty good passer-I mean last year he really developed as a passer-I do think he has an NFL future."</p>
<p>Dave Rang, NFLDraftScout.com analyst (via <a href="http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/23333219/analyzing-johnny-manziel-polarizing-nfl-scouts-too">CBS</a>):</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">"He's a hair under 6-feet with a narrow body type and only average arm strength, but he is able to be successful due to his athleticism, natural instincts and foot quickness to create on the move. Manziel's best quality is a trait that's tough to quantify: his improvisational skills to keep plays alive and find a way to extend drives."</p>
<p>Another NFL scout (<a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2013/09/17/johnny-manziel-nfl-future/">via SI</a>):</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span><span>"If he's 6 feet or over, I think he's definitely going to be a guy who's draftable, and with the success and production he's had, shoot, he could be a high pick. I never would have thought that before this season. I thought he was like a 5-10 guy just running around."</span></span></p>
<p><span>Ex-player Bucky Brooks (<a href="http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000246328/article/scouts-take-stock-way-up-for-aj-mccarron-johnny-manziel">via NFL.com</a>):</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span><span><span>"Manziel is throwing the ball with more zip and velocity this season, while also displaying better accuracy and ball placement on his throws. While he is still at his best when playing in a "sandlot" fashion, he is definitely capable of making enough plays from the pocket to pick apart defenses intent on keeping him within the tackle box. Manziel's ability to string together completions, particularly on pass plays from empty formations, makes him nearly indefensible as a dual-threat playmaker."</span></span></span></p>
<p>An unnamed NFL assistant scouting director (<a href="http://mmqb.si.com/2013/09/17/johnny-manziel-nfl-future/">via SI</a>):</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">"He's in the toughest conference in the nation, and the production that he's had in that conference and against the best team in the country [Alabama]-he just dices them up-he made it look easy. That definitely has to be in the equation."</p>
