The report also said that with 8.2 per cent growth rate in FY2024, continued reforms are crucial to improving business transactions and logistics, boosting <keyword id="20423043" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-sector-investment" source="keywords">private sector investment</keyword>, and reducing reliance on public capital. It said equity markets are expected to stay dynamic and competitive due to strong growth prospects and better regulation, and foreign inflows into Indian government bonds have surged since the country joined major emerging market indexes, with further growth anticipated. To maximize trade benefits, India must develop infrastructure and geopolitical strategies, particularly regarding its extensive coastline, said the first edition of 'India Forward: Emerging Perspectives' report. Nearly 90 per cent of India's trade is seaborne, necessitating robust port infrastructure to manage increasing exports and bulk commodity imports, it added. Noting that India faces rising domestic energy demands and can look to sustainable technologies, including renewables and low-emission fuels, balancing energy security with its energy transition plans, the report stated that agriculture will rely on advanced technologies and new policies to improve infrastructure and productivity. The need is to address critical infrastructure issues such as irrigation, storage, and supply distribution to ensure food security and economic stability, it added. While the Indian economy is battling inflation and tightening financial conditions both at home and globally, the strong economic growth is counterbalancing the high fiscal deficits and debt burdens. India's sound external balance sheet helps to buffer against global market turbulence, the report said. The rating agency predicted India's current account deficit to go up to 3 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) this fiscal from 1.6 per cent of GDP last year owing to increased import bills. According to S&amp;P Global, if the commodity prices stabilise at the current levels through 2023 and decline further after that, then the pressure on the current account will reduce gradually through fiscal 2026. "Nevertheless, if its current account deficit remains higher for longer, compared with our current base case forecasts, that would impinge on India's external balance sheet," the report notes. Although India is a modest net external creditor currently, it may return to a small net external debt position. However, this contingency alone is unlikely to add material downside pressure to our sovereign ratings on India. India is also likely to continue benefiting from the active use of its currency in international transactions and the government's ability to fund itself via a deep local currency debt market, the report said. Expecting the <keyword id="6354335" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="Orion">Reserve Bank of India</keyword>'s (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rbi" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) policy rate to end fiscal 2023 at 5.9 per cent, the report said higher rates and faster price increases could soften near-term growth momentum. At the same time, the rise in rates is pushing up the cost of government funding. So far this year, the yield on the Indian government's two-year bonds has risen by about 230 basis points (bps) in the secondary market, to around 7.3 per cent, S&amp;P Global said. A stress scenario assuming consumer price inflation and benchmark interest rates surpassing our current forecasts by 300 bps and 250 bps, respectively, for an extended period of time, could put more pressure on the sovereign ratings, the report said. "We believe a deeper global economic slowdown than we currently anticipate could have an adverse impact on India's economic performance in fiscals 2023 and 2024. Potential channels of risk for India include tighter global monetary conditions, prolonged high inflation, and poor investment or consumer sentiment both at home and abroad," said S&amp;P Global. The credit rating agency also said given Indian economy is domestic-oriented, a downshift for an extended time will not happen. "Still, in the event of a prolonged downturn in real and nominal GDP growth, material downward pressure on the sovereign ratings could emerge, especially if large government deficits are left unchecked," S&amp;P Global said. India's general government deficits average well above 7 per cent of GDP annually, and its debt stock stands at about 86 per cent of GDP on a net basis. These metrics, along with its high-interest burden, contribute to very weak assessments of India's fiscal health, S&amp;P Global said. The report forecasts a 10% growth in aggregate EBITDA in 2024, driven by strong performance in sectors such as telecommunications, airports, commodities, and chemicals. This broad-based earnings growth underscores the resilience of corporate India and its ability to generate substantial cash flows despite a challenging global environment. Indian companies are benefiting from strong onshore liquidity and the absence of large debt maturities, which support their liquidity profiles. The resilience of these companies to foreign exchange and interest rate volatility further strengthens their liquidity positions. Corporate India's positive credit trends are closely linked to broader economic drivers such as GDP growth. Increased consumer spending is bolstering sectors like airports, automobiles, and telecommunications. Meanwhile, infrastructure investment is significantly boosting the commodities, utilities, and commercial automotive sectors. S&amp;P Global notes that both infrastructure and non-infrastructure sectors are experiencing reductions in leverage, with absolute debt reduction more pronounced in non-infrastructure sectors. However, infrastructure entities are slower in reducing debt due to higher capex, particularly in energy transition initiatives. Operating cash flows across sectors are outpacing capex, supporting further deleveraging. While capex intensity remains higher in infrastructure sectors, the neutral free operating cash flow is seen as a positive trend, indicating that companies are managing their capital expenditures efficiently while maintaining cash flows. The transportation infrastructure sector is benefiting from traffic growth and tariff increases, with rising cargo volumes supporting port revenues and improved operating efficiencies boosting margins. Airports are also experiencing higher traffic levels and tariff increases, contributing to better operating cash flows and overall credit quality. In the utilities sector, rising demand and new capacity are driving earnings growth, though capex remains high, particularly for energy transition projects. The steel sector is expected to see increased operating cash flow due to falling input prices and new capacity additions. Earnings in the oil and gas sector are expected to remain stable, supported by a favorable price outlook and consistent production levels. The telecom sector is also on a path to significant deleveraging, with capex expected to moderate following the 5G auctions in 2023. The auto sector is witnessing sustained operating performance as volumes stabilize after the supply chain disruptions of 2022. S&amp;P Global notes that debt levels in the auto sector are expected to remain low following sharp deleveraging, while normalized growth in auto sales and stable margins support the sector's positive outlook. In the chemicals sector, falling input costs and stabilized product prices are expected to drive earnings recovery following a downturn in 2023. Improved signals show a broader trend of recovery across various industrial sectors in India. India's corporate credit quality is getting stronger: S&P Global

Negative global cues along with inflationary worries and mild profit bookings subdued India's key stock indices -- S&amp;P BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> and NSE Nifty50 -- during the mid-afternoon trade session on Thursday. Initially, the two indices opened on a positive note. Among sectors, all of them traded in the red with loss leaders being Metals, Capital Goods, Auto, IT and Healthcare. At 2.30 p.m., the S&amp;P BSE Sensex of the BSE traded at 59,665.68 points, down 342.65 points or 0.57 per cent. It opened at 60,179.93 points from the previous close of 60,008.33 points. Similarly, the broader 50-scrip <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> at National Stock Exchange (NSE) traded lower. It traded at the 17,778.45 points, down 120.80 points or 0.67 per cent during the trade session. "Global markets are flat to mildly negative as traders weighed risks to the global recovery from the prospect of faster monetary-policy tightening to tackle inflation," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities. "Nifty has yet not breached 17,613 on the downside and hence large bearish moves can be ruled out for now." Likhita Chepa, Senior Research Analyst, CapitalVia Global Research, said: "Domestic sentiment is impacted by the negative cues from other Asian markets coupled with inflationary pressures partially driven by surging energy prices. "Our research suggests that if the 58,900-59,300 levels may act as an important support in the market. If the market sustained above 58,900, we can expect it to trade in the range of 58,900-60,200." Concerns over high global inflation keep Indian equity markets under pressure

India's key stock indices rose during the morning trade session on Tuesday. Accordingly, both key indices -- S&amp;P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 -- rose a day after a sell-off which was triggered due to weak Asian cues. As per market observers, the up moves comes on the back of healthy buying support for Realty, Oil &amp; gas, IT and FMCG stocks. Sector wise, Auto, Consumer Durables and Utilities indices traded lower. At around 10.45 a.m., S&amp;P BSE Sensex traded at 58,568.67 points, higher by 77.74 points or 0.13 per cent from its previous close. Similarly, NSE Nifty50 traded higher. It rose to 17,424.30 points, higher by 27.40 points or 0.16 per cent from its previous close. "Nifty trades higher on Sept 21 on the back of steady Asian markets post the sell-off seen on Monday," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities. "The Fed is due to deliver its latest economic and interest rate policy update on Wednesday." According to Gaurav Garg, Head of Research, CapitalVia Global Research: "Investors have been pouring money into India's stock market, which could rise to more than $5 trillion and become the fifth largest in the world within years." "More support can come as India has climbed two spots to 46 in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021. It further stated that Indian start-ups had raised $10 billion through initial public offerings (IPOs) so far this year." A global adtech firm is looking for over 130 new engineering and management freshers in Mumbai and Bengaluru

India's services sector grew at a robust pace in September, as a positive demand environment boosted intakes of new business and output volumes, according to the <keyword id="30287" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sp" source="Orion">S&amp;P</keyword> Global survey released on Thursday. The seasonally adjusted <keyword id="13829175" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sp-global-india-services" source="Orion">S&amp;P Global India Services</keyword> PMI Business Activity Index rose from 60.1 in August to 61.0 in September, signalling a sharp upturn in output that was one of the strongest in over 13 years. With workloads rising and capacities experiencing mild pressure, job numbers continued to increase at a historically high rate. Services firms retained positive expectations for activity, with sentiment improving to its highest level in over nine years, the survey stated. September's expansion in output was commonly associated with effective marketing, favourable demand conditions and strong influxes of new business. "The latest PMI results brought more positive news for India's service economy, with September seeing business activity and new work intakes rising to one of the greatest extents in over 13 years. Besides demand strength domestically, firms noted higher international sales to Asia, Europe and North America," said Pollyanna De Lima, Economics Associate Director at <keyword id="3435727" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sp-global-market-intelligence" source="Orion">S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence</keyword>. "Moreover, an upturn in business optimism about the year ahead, fuelled by buoyant demand conditions, bode well to further growth across the service sector. Unsurprisingly, job creation was sustained as the business mood improved," Lima added. The latest data showed a substantial increase in new business placed with Indian service providers, one that was the second-fastest since June 2010. Anecdotal evidence indicated that market dynamics remained favourable, supporting demand. Advertising was also cited as a key factor boosting sales.

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A price cap on Russian crude likely won't stop China and India from quietly buying oil from Russia, sources told S&amp;P Global.</li><li>Some insurers may be willing to back shipments of Russian crude outside the price cap.</li></ul>An oil price cap from the G7 nations won't stop China and India from quietly snapping up Russian crude, thanks to the help of smaller insurance companies who are willing to cover the sales, according to S&amp;P Global.Most large insurance companies are planning on adhering to the US-led plan to cap Russian oil prices, and most overseas oil shipments over 45,000 in deadweight tonnage will need insurance, the research firm said in a <a href="https://www.spglobal.com/commodityinsights/en/market-insights/latest-news/oil/110722-shipping-russian-oil-flow-to-asia-may-not-slow-on-insurance-glitch">note</a> on Monday. But there are smaller insurance companies who are willing to back sales of Russian oil outside of the price cap, according to an executive at Western Protection and Indemnity, a maritime insurance firm.The executive told S&amp;P that there were a handful of Chinese shipping insurers who were able to offer that kind of protection. Firms who are reluctant to do so may offer insurance anyway, due to nudging from the Chinese government. Another insurance executive said that some companies shipping Russian oil are already using "lower-value" shipping insurers, who are backing shipments of Russian oil at lower coverage levels. There are even companies who may be willing to risk transporting Russian oil without insurance, another executive said, despite the fact that those ships may not be allowed to land if they don't meet insuring requirements.Most sources said these options were unlikely to crimp Russian crude sales to China and India even with a price cap measure.That comes as G7 nations have been racing to iron out details on a planned price cap of around $60 on Russian oil, which was initially expected to be proposed by December 5. But experts say the measure will need cooperation from Russia in order to ease tight global supply, as well as Russia's allies like China and India, who have been ramping up purchases of Russian crude at hefty discounts since the invasion of Ukraine.A US Treasury official said last month that <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/commodities/russian-oil-price-cap-leverage-discount-crude-asia-west-sanctions-2022-10">talks with China and India had been "positive,"</a> and the price cap would give such allies more negotiating power in purchasing oil off the spot market. Most human resources (HR) professionals feel that business schools are not doing enough to address the skills gap facing organisations, a survey said. 
 "Only 29 per cent of the respondents felt that business schools are actually addressing the skills required at the workforce," according to a research on HR and business outlook conducted by <keyword id="1433263" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SP-Jain-School-of-Global-Management">SP Jain School of Global Management</keyword>. 

	A total of 61 per cent of HR professionals across organisations felt that business schools were somewhat addressing the skills gap and 10 per cent felt that B-schools were doing "very little". 
 

	The survey opined that this makes a very strong case for re-imagining management education itself. 
 SP Jain School of Global Management conducted the research across its campuses in Dubai, Singapore, Sydney and India among professionals from various sectors, including HR executives in <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword>, <keyword id="34583" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="pharmaceuticals">pharmaceuticals</keyword>, banking and financial services and hospitality sectors, among others. 

	The top skills identified as desirable for B-school graduates were managing complexity, innovative thinking, critical thinking and problem solving, effective communication skills, leadership and interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and diversity, decision making and problem solving, design thinking and dealing with ambiguity, it said. 
 Further, it said that promoting business growth has emerged as the top concern among <keyword id="674268" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="HR-managers">HR managers</keyword> across the world, followed by managing costs, enhancing employee engagement and retention, aligning business with HR strategy and attracting talent for key positions. 

	Clearly there is a transformation here as HR has always been seen as primarily only responsible for attracting and retaining key talent, it added. 
 

	HR managers across the world agreed that 'managing employee expectations' was one of the major concerns that they were grappling with. 
 

	This is followed by aligning business and HR strategy, developing effective HR programs, upskilling HR professionals for the future and adopting new technology, the survey said. 
 

	"The importance of HR can never be overemphasised. It is fast emerging as the bedrock on which performance of companies will be benchmarked," said Christopher Abraham, the architect of the survey and HR thought leader at the SP Jain School of Global Management. 
 

	The survey also explored the top five retention strategies. Innovative and engaging work topped the list, which spoke about how the new age workforce is keen to be involved and contribute. 
 

	This was followed by work-life balance programs, meaningful benefits and incentives, competitive remuneration options and leadership development programs.

But even with the revised forecast, China's GDP growth will be substantially lower than that of <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword>. According to S&amp;P, India's GDP is projected to grow at a rate of 6.7 per cent in 2024 and 6.3 per cent in 2025. In contrast, China's <keyword id="19931030" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="economy" source="keywords">economy</keyword> is now forecasted to grow at 5.0 per cent in 2024 and forecast moderately raised to 4.6 per cent from 4.5 per cent. The agency revised China's estimate due to policy tailwinds expected to extend into next year and a gradual improvement in private-sector sentiment within the country. However, the <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) in its monetary policy has raised the GDP forecast of India from 7 per cent to 7.2 per cent for FY25. RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said, "The real GDP growth for the current financial year 2024-25 is projected at 7.2 per cent with Q1 at 7.3 per cent, Q2 at 7.2 per cent, Q3 at 7.3 per cent, and Q4 at 7.2 per cent. The risks are evenly balanced." RBI Governor further said that, "The GDP growth projection, we have increased it from 7 per cent to 7.2 per cent and the inflation projection, the average for the year, we have retained it at 4.5 per cent as it was in the last MPC meeting." The <keyword id="22162558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SP-Global-Market" source="keywords">S&amp;P Global Market</keyword> Intelligence however has lowered the growth forecasts of US, Canada, Brazil, and Japan for 2024, while it has revised upward the forecasts for China, the Eurozone, the UK, and Russia. Additionally, the <keyword id="22162559" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-growth-forecast" source="keywords">global growth forecast</keyword> for 2025 has edged up from 2.7 per cent to 2.8 per cent, with higher forecasts for some of the larger countries, including the US and China. Regarding Japan, the agency maintains that the next rate hike by the Bank of Japan is most likely to occur in October 2024, given the economic and inflationary headwinds. In the Asia-Pacific region, the agency predicts that real GDP growth, excluding mainland China and Japan, will remain broadly stable at 4.4 per cent in 2024 and 2025, driven by robust domestic demand and recovering exports. A pickup in overseas demand is seen as the key growth driver for the region in 2024.

India's <keyword id="16056" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="services" source="Orion">services</keyword> sector growth accelerated in April, as strong demand conditions resulted in the fastest increase in new business and output in close to 13 years, a monthly survey said on Wednesday. The pick-up in demand occurred in spite of escalating price pressures. The seasonally adjusted <keyword id="30287" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sp" source="Orion">S&amp;P</keyword> <keyword id="17050419" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-india-services" source="Orion">Global India Services</keyword> <keyword id="104215" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pmi" source="Orion">PMI</keyword> Business Activity Index rose from 57.8 in March to 62.0 in April, signalling the fastest expansion in output since mid-2010, amid a pick-up in new business growth and favourable market conditions. For the 21st straight month, the headline figure was above the neutral 50 thresholds. In Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) parlance, a print above 50 means expansion while a score below 50 denotes contraction. "India's service sector posted a remarkable performance in April, with demand strength backing the strongest increases in new business and output in just under 13 years. Finance &amp; Insurance was the brightest spot, topping the sectoral growth rankings for both measures," said Pollyanna De <keyword id="15735" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lima" source="Orion">Lima</keyword>, Economics Associate Director at S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence. Monitored companies signalled an improvement in international demand for Indian services in April. The new export business expanded for the third month in succession and at the fastest pace over this period. On the prices front, input costs rose at the quickest pace in three months during April. According to survey members, food, fuel, medicine, transportation and wages were the main sources of inflation. Consumer services recorded the fastest upturn in average expenses. The combination of rising input costs and demand resilience urged services companies to lift their selling prices in April. The rate of charge inflation was marked and the strongest in 2023 so far. On the jobs front, despite the substantial uptick in new orders, staff levels in the service sector increased only marginally at the start of the first fiscal quarter. Whereas some companies lifted headcounts due to rising output needs, the vast majority left them unchanged amid sufficient workers for current requirements. "One area of weakness highlighted in the latest results was the labour market. Despite the substantial pick-up in sales growth and improved business sentiment towards the outlook, the increase in employment seen in April was negligible and failed to gain meaningful traction," Lima said. Going ahead, marketing efforts, plans to price competitively and an increased focus on customer relations boosted business confidence in April. "Close to 22 per cent of companies forecast growth of business activity over the course of the coming 12 months, compared with 2 per cent that anticipate a reduction," the survey said. Meanwhile, the S&amp;P Global India Composite PMI Output Index -- which measures combined services and manufacturing output -- rose from 58.4 in March to 61.6 in April, its highest mark since July 2010. Despite the substantial upturn in sales, job creation across the private sector remained mild. Rates of expansion were broadly similar at manufacturing firms and their service counterparts. At the composite level, input costs rose at the fastest pace since January and charge inflation reached a four-month high. The S&amp;P Global India Services PMI is compiled by S&amp;P Global from responses to questionnaires sent to a panel of around 400 service sector companies. The panel is stratified by detailed sector and company workforce size, based on contributions to GDP. Data collection began in December 2005. India's services sector growth climbs to near 13-year high in April: PMI

Mumbai, Apr 7 () Even before the COVID-19 worries-led market rout dented the value of mutual fund investments, there are chances that the fund was anyways underperforming from a long-term perspective.According to a study by S&amp;P Indices Versus Active (SPIVA), for the five years ending December 2019, a majority of funds were underperforming.Typically, asset management companies say one must invest in mutual funds for the medium to long-term and see through near-term volatilities. However, massive correction of over 25 per cent in the benchmarks over the last two months have made investors worried over the value of their portfolios.The SPIVA study said 82.29 per cent of equity large cap funds, 78.38 per cent of the ELSS (equity linked savings scheme) funds and 40.91 per cent of Mid/Small Cap equity funds underperformed their respective indices in the five years.If one feels that the condition of the portfolio would be better from a longer time horizon, Akash Jain, the associate director for global research at S&amp;P Dow Jones Indices said majority of the actively managed large-cap equity funds in India underperformed the S&amp;P BSE 100 with 64.80 per cent large-cap funds underperforming over the 10-year ending in December 2019.Over the one-year period ending December 2019, the S&amp;P BSE 100 surged 10.92 per cent, while 40 per cent of the Indian Equity Large-Cap funds underperformed the benchmark, it said. Among all the categories evaluated in the SPIVA India Scorecard, the Mid-/Small- category fared the best for active funds with majority of them managing to beat the S&amp;P BSE 400 MidSmallCap Index across different time horizons studied in the report.
