Sonakshi Sinha's OTT series 'Dahaad' to debut on Prime Video in May

<keyword id="6355630" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Securities-and-Exchange-Board-of-India">Securities and Exchange Board of India</keyword> (<keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword>) has been in the news for the alleged race for its chairmanship. On Saturday, a special meeting was held for this matter, the outcome of which was a serious consideration of <keyword id="47209" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Finance-Ministry">finance ministry</keyword>’s proposal to reappoint the current chairman, <keyword id="44860" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="uk-sinha">UK Sinha</keyword>, for another year. 
 This has happened because of one contender, <keyword id="254331" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ramesh-Abhishek">Ramesh Abhishek</keyword>, having been selected as the secretary at the Department of Industrial Policy &amp; Promotion and chances of another one, <keyword id="197242" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Thomas-Mathew">Thomas Mathew</keyword>, being high to be the head of the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF). These two were the most probable candidates for the post as they had got the highest grades during the selection process. 
 Other than Abhishek and Mathew, SBI chairman <keyword id="6379603" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Arundhati-Bhattacharya">Arundhati Bhattacharya</keyword> and whole-time SEBI member Rajeev Agarwal were short-listed for the post. Even though reappointment of Sinha was not a suggestion of the committee, the finance ministry proposed to do the same, which has come as a surprise because it was the ministry itself that had constituted the selection panel for Sinha’s replacement. 
 
Talking of the search cum selection panel, it is headed by cabinet secretary PK Sinha, while other members are additional principal secretary to Prime Minister PK Mishra, DEA secretary Shaktikanda Das, Institute of Economic Growth director Professor Manoj Panda, Gujarat National Law University director Dr Bimal N Patel, and Centre for Policy Research senior fellow Professor Rajiv Kumar. 
 
If Sinha is to be reappointed, it may require some change in rules because the current rules don’t allow the chairman's tenure to exceed five years, which Sinha will complete on February 17. This may also mean that vigilance clearance will have to be obtained afresh as per the current SEBI rules. 
 
"Whenever rules are changed, it cannot be a one-time affair to suit a particular contingency," a securities law expert told ET. "It has to be there to apply to all and for all times to come." 
 As of now, DR Mehta is the only person to have held the post of <keyword id="83833" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="SEBI-Chairman">SEBI chairman</keyword> for more than five years, but that happened in exceptional circumstances as the joint parliamentary committee was enquiring into the Ketan Parekh scam. The then government had to defend itself against a challenge to that extension in the Delhi High Court.

He has also trained the IAS Officers at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. Bhaskar Khulbe’s career with the IAS Functioning from a responsible role in the Prime Minister’s Office is not new to Bhaskar Khulbe. After occupying some distinguished and eminent positions in the Indian Administrative Services, Bhaskar Khulbe Additional Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office in 2014. He became the Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office in 2016 and occupied this position for three years till 2019. Before he stepped down from his position, this post was extended for him for six months as he had completed his service. Now he has once again joined the PMO as the Secretary to the Prime Minister for the second time after superannuation. Bhaskar Khulbe has a rich knowledge about the quality of officers. The Advertising Club elects Partha Sinha as President

<ul><li>We caught up with <keyword id="1988206" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dheeraj-Sinha">Dheeraj Sinha</keyword>, CEO &amp; Chief Strategy Officer, South Asia, <keyword id="131262" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Leo-Burnett">Leo Burnett</keyword> to talk about all that has been happening at the agency, how they have been coping in these difficult times.</li><li>Sinha told us all that is being done to make sure its employees are safe and motivated and its clients get the most effective solutions to their problems.</li><li>He also gives some advice to brands on how to navigate these times. </li></ul>The past one year has been challenging for people the world over. It has been the same for organizations that had to pivot overnight, start functioning remotely and ensure the safety, and sanity of their employees. For <keyword id="35666" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="advertising">advertising</keyword> agencies, that thrive on brainstorming together and the resultant camaraderie, things were obviously challenging and while many agencies have been called out for not being able to empathize with their people, there were a few agencies that got it right too. The year 2020, despite being a difficult year, saw the agency lose zero clients, bring home quite a few awards and come up with work that was noticed and loved. Dheeraj Sinha, CEO &amp; Chief Strategy Officer, South Asia, Leo Burnett gives the credit for a good performance amidst such gloom to the culture the agency has been able to build in the past few years. “We all know what the agency of the future is going to be. It will be about solving our clients’ real-time problems, not just with advertising but with the combined use of creativity, data and technology. But I feel what really prepares us for the uncertain future is the culture we are able to build. In terms of culture, the agency of the future has to be really flat and everybody has to be a creator. But if you have an agency with an ingrained culture of resilience, of people coming together, fighting together and making things happen, we will be able to succeed, because frankly, we don't really know what tomorrow might throw at us,” he said. As a leader, Sinha has been working towards building and strengthening this culture that he speaks about. Not wanting to restrict itself to just a creative workshop, the agency has been focusing on creating full-funnel solutions for its clients. A recent example is its campaign for <keyword id="6568790" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="acko-insurance">ACKO Insurance</keyword> where it created StreetEye, a motorcycle-mounted device to detect submerged potholes in real-time. Designed and developed by the Leo Burnett team, StreetEye tried to solve one of India’s age-old issues – pothole-related accidents. The agency has also launched three specialized divisions – Leo Burnett Digital, Consult and Design, to give clients exactly the solutions they are looking for. Building a culture also includes how you treat your employees and Sinha says his focus also has been to keep everyone motivated through the last one year, when everyone has had to stay at home. “The biggest job in a people’s business like advertising is to keep our people’s energies up. I sometimes feel I'm the Chief Energy Officer of Leo Burnett and not the Chief Executive Officer,” he said with a laugh. Over the last year, the agency has come up with frameworks such as 0-3-6, a short- term thinking model to help brands and businesses navigate the not just the immediate (0) but the next three and six months. It has also conducted over 50 workshops for clients. Sinha has also been having conversations with different people from his team which he has named ‘Chai Pe Charcha’, to make sure he is able to have a connect with employees who he does not talk to on a daily basis. Sinha also said that democratizing leadership has had an important impact on how the culture at the agency is shaping up. “As soon as we entered the pandemic last year, we created a platform for our top 50 leaders. We meet every Tuesday and discuss all kinds of issues. We discuss business, new business, people issues, and a lot of the decisions are taken jointly. If we're going through an issue, it's not one person's decision, rather, the decisions are being owned by a larger culture or a larger group of people. And that to my mind has gone a long way because everybody had a contribution and a say in the direction that agency was headed and in the decisions that we should be taking. And whenever we were in trouble, I would always call upon people and people have stood up and fought and we’ve together won the day,” he explained. When asked what one of his biggest lessons from the last one year has been, he said, “You need to lead from the front. You cannot ask people to do things that you would never do yourself. You have to lead from the front, you have to be out in the trenches because there’s no way of replicating the amount of camaraderie and strength in culture that builds.” He feels it is a combination of all these factors that helps the agency sail through, relatively unscathed from the turbulence of 2020. “If you look at our revenue performance in 2020, we weren’t more than 5-6% short than say 2019, which in a year like 2020 is really good. Despite the lockdown, we won around 20 new business pitches, we created close to 1000 pieces of work, we conducted 0-3-6 workshops. In fact, we were India's number one agency at APAC Effies and at <keyword id="250856" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="AdFest">Adfest</keyword>. I would attribute all of these achievements to the culture we’ve managed to create at Leo Burnett,” he said. On how he anticipates the current wave will impact advertising budgets overall, Sinha said, “I feel most of us right now are going to wait and watch, in terms of how this situation pans out. I feel there are two possible scenarios. If we are able to bring the situation under control, say by the end of May in places like Mumbai, I feel it would lead to a postponement of budgets and demand. But if it goes longer and deeper, that is when we will see budget cuts. We might also see some demand vanish.” Considering the times we are living in where there is immense suffering all around us, what does he think is the correct approach for brands, considering for many people, ads might be the last thing on their minds at the moment! “If you're a brand, large or small, and you have a stake in the Indian consumer market, you're on TV, Digital, you're playing advertising and selling your products, you have to have a stake in what's going on at this point in time. You have to be on ground and help. I have this whole idea of brands being socio-capitalist where, of course, you are a part of the consumer economy but you should also focus on how you can help. Can you help with oxygen, medicines, food, contribution, entertainment or information? And if you can, this is the time for you to help, you have to play your part as a responsible corporate citizen,” he said.

<keyword id="619668" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arunima-Sinha">Arunima Sinha</keyword> whooped for joy. After a gruelling climb over 52 days, several near brushes with death, and as severe a test of her will as she had ever faced, she was on top of the world. She had conquered Everest – the first woman amputee to accomplish this feat. Since that day in May 2013, Sinha has scaled the highest peaks on five other continents and is just one summit away – McKinley in North America – from completing the Seven Summits Challenge to reach the highest point on each of the seven continents. A former national level volleyball player in India, Sinha was travelling from Lucknow to New Delhi in 2011 by train when robbers tried to snatch her gold necklace. “I resisted and so they pushed me out of the train,” says Sinha, who watched in horror as another train sped towards her and ran over her left leg. “I lay by the train tracks bleeding and screaming in pain the entire night, fighting off rats.” Villagers found her in the morning and carried her to the local hospital, which lacked basic facilities. Doctors amputated her left leg below the knee and inserted a rod in her right leg to support it – without anaesthetic. Those were her “darkest hours,” when she came to hate the look of pity in people’s eyes. She took inspiration from Yuvraj Singh, an Indian cricketer who had successfully battled lung cancer and was forging his return to the elite levels of the sport. After leaving hospital, she contacted Bachendri Pal, who in 1984 had become the first Indian woman to summit Everest. Pal heads the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation, funded by India’s leading steelmaking company. Moved by Sinha’s story, Pal took her under her wing. “When I met Arunima, I told her, ‘In your heart you have already climbed Everest. Now you merely need to prove it to the world’,” says 65-year-old Pal. “In the early stages, she could barely walk. Her legs would bleed and swell up making every step excruciating. But she persisted.” Sinha spent two years under Pal’s guidance, building both her physical and mental toughness. She enrolled in the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi, training in the mountains of Uttarkhand, Ladakh and Nepal. Sinha on Mt Vinson in Antarctica. After eight months her legs grew accustomed to climbing. She ascended progressively higher mountains, moving to Island Peak or Imja Tse (6,189 metres) in the eastern Nepalese Himalayas and Mount Chamser Kangri (6,622m) in Ladakh, India. She learned to use ropes to climb, carrying 20kg of supplies and walking with crampons for traction on ice. Tata Steel helped her cross the final hurdle, providing sponsorship to cover costs that can range from US$40,000 to US$90,000. On April 1, 2013, Sinha began her quest as a part of the company’s Eco Expedition Everest Group. Climbers tackle hazards that include freezing temperatures, altitude sickness, avalanches and blizzards. On several occasions my artificial leg turned 180 degrees and I had to put it back to its normal position which slowed me down,” she says. “I had to crawl along the slope to move forward, annoying the climbers behind me.” At Camp 4 at 8,000m – the infamous ‘death zone’ where the ambient oxygen level is so low that the body’s cells slowly begin to die – Sinha witnessed dead bodies, and even saw a climber who had run out of oxygen take his last few breaths. “I resolved that I would not let the fear of death hold me back,” she says. On May 21, after hours of strenuous climbing, Sinha’s group had reached the Hillary Step, just 100m from the summit. It was now or never,” says Sinha, who pushed on. Two hours later, she stood on top of the world. “I felt like dancing, crying and laughing, all at the same time. I wanted to tell the world: here I am!” Unfurling the Indian flag, she recorded a one-minute video, asking Kancha to send it home if she didn’t survive. The first woman amputee to summit Everest shares her incredible story of determination

<keyword id="45008" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tata-power" source="Orion">Tata Power</keyword> CEO and MD Praveer <keyword id="6358012" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sinha" source="Orion">Sinha</keyword> announced a Rs 6,000 crore capital investment by the company in <keyword id="6357961" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="odisha" source="Orion">Odisha</keyword>. Speaking at the Make in Odisha Conclave here on Thursday, Sinha said the four power discoms of Odisha, where Tata Power has a majority stake, are committed to Rs 6,000 crore capex investment in the next five years. Sinha said the company will also set up 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points, 1,00,000 solar pumps, microgrids, rooftop and floating <keyword id="6453229" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="solar-plants" source="Orion">solar plants</keyword> in the next five years. He welcomed the Odisha government's Renewable Energy Policy 2022 unveiled at the Make In Odisha Conclave here. The Tata Power CEO said the company has been engaged in power distribution across Odisha and is committed to ensure ease-of-doing business through quality power supply. "Tata Power is committed to ensure 'Udyog Ru Pragati' (progress through entrepreneurship) by offering high-quality and affordable power supply to enable a conducive environment for industrial development. Our clean and green energy products and solutions in e-mobility, decentralised generation, agriculture, and demand side management will further ensure an all-round sustainable development of the state," Sinha said. He said Tata Power is also working with Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) in deploying charging infrastructure at multi-level car parking lots and public utilities like hospitals, universities, malls, and at important city hubs. The company is also in early stages to explore the development of green hydrogen hubs in the Paradeep region to meet industrial demands, he said, adding that Tata Power is also working towards the solarization of the agriculture sector in association with the state government. The company has already installed over 700 solar pumps in addition to 1,200 dual pump for community drinking application across the state. It has planned to install 30,000 solar pumps over the next five years, he said. Welcoming the state's new Renewable Energy Policy 2022, Sinha said the incentives provisions like electricity duty waiver, wheeling charge waiver, cross subsidy surcharge waiver, state transmission utility charge waiver are very encouraging. He said Tata Power is working towards the electrification of remote villages by setting up microgrids. A technical feasibility study has been carried out in several villages in the Mayurbhanj District to set up microgrids for transformation of the rural/ tribal economy.

Telecom minister <keyword id="6357016" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manoj-Sinha">Manoj Sinha</keyword> has told the Lok Sabha that around 50,000 villages across India are yet to get mobile networks, including locations in the Northeast, Naxal-hit states, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. 
 
"We have never claimed that mobile network has reached all over the country. There are around 50,000 villages where mobile network has not reached," he said. 
 
The Minister said that he has informed all states to know about the number of villages that still lack mobile connectivity.

He added that an ambitious project called '<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/digital-india-backbone-bharat-net-gets-an-allocation-bump-in-budget-2017/articleshow/56911720.cms">Bharat Net</a>' is being implemented, which would provide 100 mbps broadband connectivity to all Gram Panchayats, the number of which goes up to 250,000. 
 
As of now, the first phase of this project, which would connect 100,000 GPs, is being <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/PM-Modi-Sagarmala/articleshow/52670429.cms">implemented</a>.

"As on March 31, 2017, trenching and ducting has been completed for 11,294 km (4,780 GPs), Optical Fibre Cable has been laid for 12,172 km (4,213 GPs) and 443 GPs have been provided with broadband connectivity," he said.

50,000 villages yet to get mobile network: Manoj Sinha

The December 24, 1999 hijack of the Indian Airlines flight is getting a series treatment at Netflix with <keyword id="19913032" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="anubhav-sinha" source="keywords">Anubhav Sinha</keyword> attached as creator and director. The show is titled "IC 814: The Kandhar Hijack" and stars <keyword id="19901508" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vijay-varma" source="keywords">Vijay Varma</keyword>, Patralekha, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, Arvind Swamy, Dia Mirza, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Amrita Puri, and Anupam Tripathi. According to the makers, the series revolves around "the 24th December 1999 hijacking of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814 which was en route from Kathmandu to New Delhi. It was taken to Kandahar. The hijack lasted seven days and while the crew and passengers suffered, officers back home tried to find a solution to bring them home." Sinha, known for films such as "Mulk", "Article 15" and "Bheed", said it was a responsibility to be as authentic as possible while working on the series. "When I started doing research, almost everyone remembers a few things about the hijack, and what all happened during the process. I realised it is a very complex story and a lot of things happened in those seven days and not many people know about it. "I met a lot of officers, passengers, the pilot, and there was a lot more to share. We have put it all in the show... We had to make it factually correct and yet dramatic and engaging... It was an interesting process," the director said at the Next on Netflix event here. Sinha added Monika <keyword id="20775712" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shergill" source="keywords">Shergill</keyword>, Vice President, Content, Netflix India, had promised him that the shooting of the series will conclude within eight months but it went on for two years. Shergill described the show as a "thrilling, propulsive rendition of the longest hijacking in the history of aviation in the world". "When we started out on this story, it took us a while to get down to actually making it in the right way. It was a journey for us because it is such a journalistic sort of piece, but it is such a large story of human interest and it had to be told in the most dramatic and thrilling fashion," Shergill told PTI. Netflix announces series on 1999 Kandahar hijack, Anubhav Sinha to direct show

The US has named a mountain in Antarctica after an Indian-American scientist whose biological research expedition provided crucial data about animal populations. 
 <keyword id="2391409" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Akhouri-Sinha">Akhouri Sinha</keyword>, adjunct professor in the Department of Genetics, cell biology and development at the University of Minnesota, was recognised by the US Geological Survey, which named the mountain ‘Mt Sinha,’ for the research he did as an explorer in 1971-72. 
Sinha was a member of a team that catalogued population studies of seals, whales and birds in the Bellingshausen and Amundsen seas. 
 The mountain was named by the <keyword id="2396042" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Advisory-Committee-on-Antarctic-Names">Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names</keyword> (US-ACAN) and the US Geological Survey. 
 
"Anyone can see the Mt Sinha, Antarctica, on Google.com or Bing.com," said Sinha. 
 Sinha, who graduated with a BSc degree from the <keyword id="6364092" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Allahabad-University">Allahabad University</keyword> in 1954 and an MSc degree in Zoology from the <keyword id="48975" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Patna-University">Patna University</keyword> in 1956, said he was invited to carry out research on the reproduction of Antarctic seals by the National Science Foundation Antarctic Program. He also taught in the <keyword id="63845" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="department-of-zoology">Department of Zoology</keyword> at Ranchi College from November 1956 to July 1961. Then he left for the US. 
 
"I went to Antarctica on two expeditions lasting for about 22 weeks on the US Coast Guard cutters, Southwind and Glacier, during 1972 and 1974, respectively," said Sinha. He has published more than 100 papers and has been teaching graduate level courses for almost 25 years.

US Names Mountain In Honour Of Indian-American Scientist

Former disinvestment minister Arun Shourie and ex-finance minister <keyword id="6381725" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Yashwant-Sinha">Yashwant Sinha</keyword>, among others, are being considered as the first , among others, to hold the post of the president of the <keyword id="175259" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Brics">BRICS</keyword> Development Bank which is now known as the New Develeopment Bank (NDB), an ET report said. The bank will be headquartered in Shanghai, China. 
 
The NDB is set up by the BRICS states (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) as an alternative to the existing US-dominated World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). Secondly, it will also foster greater financial and development cooperation among the five emerging countries. 
 
According to the ET report, the post demands a political candidate with adequate administrative skills rather than a bureaucrat. Many believe, this will help the bank to gather better mileage initially. 
 
Sinha, who has served as foreign minister during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government is suitable contender to hold this post. His son Jayant Sinha is the minister of state for finance in the present government. This, however, brightens the chance of Shourie, former economist with the World Bank, to lead the bank. 
 
In February, the government had officially validated its membership along with the proposed $100billion Contingency Reserve Arrangement to be used in case of a crisis, the ET report added. 
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon be taking the final call on this matter. 
 
The finance ministers from the BRICS countries will meet during the Fund-Bank meeting which is slated to be held in April, the ET reported. 
With bird-eyed focus on the development agenda of BRICS countries, this bank, which has a $50 billion capital structure, will serve as an alternative to other multi-lateral agencies.

<ul><li>Actors of an erstwhile era, Shatrugan Sinha and Poonam Sinha, are fighting for rival parties.</li><li>However, the husband and wife duo campaign for each other in respective constituencies.</li><li>This is not the first time in India that a married couple has shared a roof but not the same political affiliation.</li></ul>The Indian Parliament is full of colour. Shatrughan Sinha and Poonam Sinha are Bollywood stars of a bygone era, with over 300 films to their credit according to IMDB. In the ongoing Parliamentary elections, they represent two rival parties, the Indian National Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) respectively. The two parties are fighting each other in one of the country's most crucial states, Uttar Pradesh. Both parties tried to stitch a coalition to beat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi but the plans have not come to fruition yet. But that hasn't stopped the actors-turned-politicians from campaigning for each other. Congress leader Shatrughan Sinha had <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/shatrughan-sinha-defends-backing-wife-at-samajwadi-rally-says-it-was-his-duty-as-a-husband-2026047" data-type="tilCustomLink" target="_blank">campaigned for his wife in Lucknow</a>. Confused much? The protagonists are not. Shatrughan Sinha, the Parliamentarian from Patna Sahib constituency in Bihar for the last ten years, left the BJP after the party decided to dump and nominate union minister for law and information technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad, from the seat. So he broke up from the party, which he was part of for 27 years, and joined the Congress at the behest of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, founded by Laloo Prasad Yadav, which is in alliance with Congress in another state, Bihar. Now, read the story again a few times. A whiteboard and a marker may come in handy in explaining the musical chairs that the Indian election can be, at times. Most often than not, both parties and candidates put the ability to win a seat ahead of ideology and, even, conflict of interest.
