I was impressed, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/vespa-reveals-946-scooter-price-photos-2013-10" target="_blank">but had my concerns</a> about the practicality of the design. </p>
<p>I recently got to take one out for a spin, and while I stand by the view that the back of the scooter is too big and the seat seems uncomfortable for a passenger, I don't really care anymore.</p>
<p>That's because the 946 is a lot of fun to drive.</p>
<p>This was my first ever ride on a scooter (<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-get-a-motorcycle-license-in-ny-2013-10" target="_blank">I got my motorcycle license last month</a>), so I can't tell you how the 946 compares to other Vespa models or the competition. But after a morning tour of Brooklyn with Vespa Northeast Regional Manager Michael Fiduk, I was convinced it's an excellent way to move around New York City.</p>
<p>The 946 is easy and intuitive to ride. You don't have to change gears manually like you do on most motorcycles, an advantage in stop and go traffic. Easing off the throttle slows the scooter significantly, so you don't really need your brakes except to come to a full stop.</p>
<p>The 946 is no good on the highway, but it does get up to speed nicely and feels fine at 40 mph. Fuel consumption is basically negligible, since you get 130 miles to the gallon.</p>
<p>The $9,946 starting price is a bit high, but it does get you a sleek and distinctive ride.</p>
<p>Based on lack of experience, I can't recommend the 946 over the competition. I can say, however, that anyone hesitating to use a scooter as a city ride should give it a shot. It's a speedy, pleasant way to move around, even in New York (though I didn't cross over into much more populated Manhattan).</p>
<p>If you want to get started and have the money, the 946 is a stylish way to do it.</p>

<strong><br /></strong><ul><li><strong>The tech giant has increased upload file size limit from 15GB to 100GB for all OneDrive and SharePoint users that will help business users with large file types like 3D, CAD and media files. </strong></li><li><strong>OneDrive for Business users will also get better Teams sharing integration for remote work. <br /></strong></li><li><strong><keyword id="10387" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Microsoft">Microsoft</keyword> is rolling out the same file sharing and access control experience in Teams that business users have access to in other Microsoft 365 apps, including OneDrive, Outlook or Office. <br /></strong><br /></li></ul>Microsoft has announced new OneDrive features across Microsoft 365 for a more connected and flexible files experience to business users, more control to admins, and a more personal touch to users at home.<br /><br />The tech giant has increased upload file size limit from 15GB to 100GB for all OneDrive and SharePoint users that will help business users with large file types like 3D, CAD and media files. <br /><br />"Previously released differential sync will help expedite the upload process for large files by only syncing the parts that changed instead of the entire file," Seth Patton, General Manager, Microsoft 365, said in a statement on Wednesday.<br /><br />OneDrive for Business users will also get better Teams sharing integration for remote work. <br /><br />Microsoft is rolling out the same file sharing and access control experience in Teams that business users have access to in other Microsoft 365 apps, including OneDrive, Outlook or Office. <br /><br />Users, when go to share a file from within Teams, would have the option to create sharing links that provide access to anyone - people within organization, people with existing access or specific people, including those in a private or group chat.<br /><br />Later this month, the company is rolling out in public preview a new feature called 'Add to OneDrive' for business users that makes it easy to add shared folders directly to OneDrive.<br /><br />Shared folders include content that others shared with you through their OneDrive or content that is a part of your shared library in Microsoft Teams or SharePoint.<br /><br />Microsoft said for consumers, it is introducing family and group sharing later this month. <br /><br />"This new consumer feature, available on OneDrive for the web, will let people predefine a group of people from your personal life and then easily share files, photos, videos, and albums with that group," said Patton. <br /><br />Family and group sharing is included in all free and paid OneDrive consumer plans and will begin rolling out soon on OneDrive for the web, with general availability expected by the end of July. <br /><br />It will become available on the mobile app, sync client, Mac, and directly from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint by the end of this year.<br /><br />Following its releases for iOS and Android, Microsoft said it will soon bring Dark Mode to OneDrive for the web across commercial and personal accounts. <br />

Some companies want to add self-driving tech to existing vehicles, while others are engineering it in. The first is exemplified by Waymo and its new fleet of Chrysler Pacificas modified with self-driving gear. The second can be found in GM/Cruise's test fleet of autonomous Chevy Bolt electric cars, which were built from scratch to integrate self-driving tech.</p><p>The key technologies are laser radar (lidar), used by both Waymo and GM/Cruise; and a camera-and-sensor-based setup, favored by Tesla for its Autopilot system. Each has pros and cons, but lidar has thus far delivered the best results.</p><p>The critical element for self-driving cars, if they're going to eventually achieve full autonomy, is integration. Tesla is currently building into every new vehicle all the hardware it says it needs for what it calls "Enhanced Autopilot." GM/Cruise vehicles leave the assembly line able to drive themselves.</p><h2>A big advantage for traditional automakers</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Waymo</span></p><p class="caption">One of Waymo's self-driving Chrysler Pacifica minivans.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><span>Marcy Klevorn, who runs Ford's Mobility division, said last week on a conference call with media after Ford's announced that <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ford-acquires-autonomic-and-transloc-changing-mobility-unit-2018-1">it was acquiring a pair of startups</a> that integration is key to the carmaker's ability to differentiate itself from competitors. And not just basic integration, but integration <em>at scale.</em></span></p><p><span>This is where the traditional auto industry has a way to remain relevant as autonomy gradually displaced human drivers. Big tech companies and startups can't build millions of vehicles every year.</span></p><p><span>If there's a good bet to be made with self-driving vehicles, it's that they'll show up first in fleets, hailed using smartphones apps. The future of self-driving cars hinges on one simple thing

TuSimple executives told Business Insider that commercially-viable autonomous trucks will be available by 2023.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories.</a></li></ul><p>UPS announced on Thursday that its venture-capital arm UPS Ventures bought a minority stake in one of the hottest self-driving truck startups around: TuSimple.</p><p>Based in San Diego and Beijing, TuSimple has a fleet of dozens of self-driving trucks that operate daily in Arizona and Texas. The company already moves shipments for Fortune 500 companies in its trucks, which have a driver and engineer in the cabin at all times to monitor operations and ensure safety. </p><p>This spring, TuSimple began piloting self-driving shipments for UPS - one of the world's most well-known parcel delivery companies with nearly 112 years in business. "And for us, we see it as an opportunity - and I feel like a shameless pun here -to be in the driver's seat, to help influence the technology, and help design it in a way that can positively impact our people, our network and our customers."</p><p>Founded in 2015, TuSimple isn't moving residential UPS packages, but rather truckloads of freight goods in the UPS Supply Chains Solution network, which is a business-to-business outfit. Lewis said the autonomous trucks are moving "<span>a very small percentage" of UPS goods, and are not impacting small package deliveries at customers' homes "at this time."</span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy of TuSimple</span></p><p class="caption">TuSimple founder, president and CTO Xiaodi Hou</p></div><p></p></div></div></span></p><p><span>While the amount of goods moved for UPS is relatively small, the investment is major for TuSimple.</span><span></span></p><p><span>"As we've collaborated with UPS, we're better understanding the constraints and the goals and the aspirations of a very complex, modern logistics operation," Chuck Price, chief product officer at TuSimple, told Business Insider. "This clarifies the choices that we make when we're building the system. It grounds our decisions in a way that we can't do just as engineers sitting back and speculating on how a fleet might use it. We actually have a fleet that is collaborating with us."</span><span></span></p><h2><span>Self-driving trucks may be approaching faster than we thought</span></h2><p><span>TuSimple <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/autonomous-trucker-tusimple-announces-95-million-funding-2019-2">raised $95 million</a> in funding in February and says it has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tusimple-autonomous-trucking-beating-tesla-waymo-2019-1">the largest fleet of self-driving trucks in the world</a>. </span><span>The company is unusual among self-driving truckers in that it operates revenue-generating routes - most autonomous driving freight technologies are still in the testing phase. </span></p><p>The industry transformations that self-driving trucks promise are massive - for better and for worse. <span>The economy would save an estimated </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/driverless-trucks-300-billion-savings-tesla-2017-11">$300 billion</a>, and <span>productivity in the trucking industry jump by 30% because driverless trucks would run 24/7.</span></p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/trucking-jobs-autonomous-trucks-driverless-technology-2018-9"> Driverless technology might actually add as many jobs as it destroys, but the new roles will be 'the worst trucking jobs around'</a></em></p><p>Those labor savings, however, could cause vast systemic change in one of America's biggest blue-collar jobs. Eliminating the job of "truck driver" would put at least 1.8 million Americans out of work. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/autonomous-tech-truck-driver-jobs-2018-12">Leaders in the trucking industry</a>, and truck drivers themselves, have told Business Insider that a slew of regulatory and technology roadblocks ensure that self-driving trucks are years, even decades, away.</p><p>But this investment from UPS in TuSimple shows that the technology is indeed approaching quickly. Price told Business Insider that TuSimple aims to have the engineer and driver out of TuSimple trucks by 2021, and then to have those truly autonomous trucks available on the market by 2023. </p><p>"W<span>e kind of have our eyes on the future here, but we're placing our money on the here and now," Lewis said. "We believe the short term benefits of this technology are great, and the potential to help influence those is why we're here. Productivity would be up 30% because driverless trucks would run 24/7.</span></p><p>But while Tesla is getting significant attention when it comes to driverless technology, it's losing out in the race for scalable, commercial, autonomous trucking. TuSimple, founded in 2015, announced today that, by June 2019, it will expand its fleet from 12 to 40 autonomous trucks on the road. That will make it the largest self-driving truck solutions company in the world. </p><p>Based in Beijing and San Diego, California, TuSimple is operating three to five revenue-generating trucking routes in Arizona. This year, TuSimple will expand to Texas.</p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Chuck Price, chief product officer</span> at TuSimple, told Business Insider that the company can't reveal its 12 contracted customers, but they include international Fortune 100 companies and household names.</p><p>"We are the only company that is operating multiple revenue-generating routes from depot to depot (warehouse to warehouse)," Price told Business Insider. </p><p><em><strong>Read more:</strong> <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/autonomous-trucks-self-driving-trucks-laws-2018-7">One of the biggest problems facing self-driving trucks has little to do with the technology</a></em></p><p>The fact that TuSimple is actually making money is a key differentiator from others in the autonomous trucking race. Tesla Semi is only available for pre-ordering right now; Walmart, UPS, FedEx, and other major companies <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/companies-that-ordered-tesla-semi-2017-12">have already pre-ordered</a> the electric big-rig.</p><p>Waymo is <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/9/17100518/waymo-self-driving-truck-google-atlanta">hauling freight in autonomous trucks</a>, but only for the data centers of its parent company, Google. It hasn't announced commercial operations. </p><p>Volvo's <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-volvo-autonomous/volvo-shows-off-self-driving-electric-truck-with-no-cab-idUSKCN1LS2QP">latest self-driving truck model</a>, which lacks a cabin, is still under development, and the company doesn't know when it will be available commercially. (Volvo does have a driverless truck operating in a <a href="https://venturebeat.com/2018/11/20/volvos-first-commercial-self-driving-trucks-will-be-used-in-mining/">highly controlled Norwegian mine</a>.)</p><p>And Uber <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/uber-ends-self-driving-truck-program-2018-7">shut down</a> its self-driving truck program altogether this summer. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Starsky Robotics</span></p><p class="caption">Starsky Robotics is one competitor in the self-driving truck race.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>Other autonomous trucking companies have made headway into commercial operation. Starsky Robotics has been hauling freight with autonomous trucks <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/starsky-robotics-self-driving-semi-trucks-tesla-2018-6">since April 2017</a>. Embark has also been moving goods with autonomous trucks <a href="https://www.wired.com/story/embark-self-driving-truck-deliveries/">since 2017</a>.</p><p>To be sure, these trucks aren't fully driverless. Price said each TuSimple truck has a systems engineer and a driver in them at all times when they're running. Their peers also have one or two people in the cabin still, and Starsky has drivers controlling the trucks from afar. </p><h2>What sets TuSimple apart</h2><p>Price said the ultimate goal for TuSimple is full autonomy without any human driving intervention. Other models of driverless trucks suggest that it would be better to bring trucks to huge distribution centers right outside of key highways, then human drivers would take the loads to the final destinations at preexisting distribution centers and warehouses.</p><p>"We would rather automate the process end to end," Price said. "We are demonstrating today in our testing and revenue runs full autonomy on these routes to deliver full depot-to-depot solutions. Our solution integrates seamlessly into existing fleet operations."</p><p>That tactic is a bit more complicated as it requires local driving, which is less straight-forward than highway driving.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Courtesy of TuSimple</span></p><p class="caption">Each TuSimple truck has a systems engineer and a driver in them at all times when they're running.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>To convince their Fortune 100 clients to sign on as customers, Price said TuSimple brings potential customers into the truck and onto the open road, rather than create a highly controlled testing environment as his competitors do. </p><p>"We've been as transparent as we can be with these folks," Price said.</p><p>He continued: </p><p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you go to an autonomous vehicle company and say, 'I want do a demo,' most will give you a pretty controlled experience. They'll operate on a route that has controlled traffic or no traffic.</span></p><p style="padding-left: 40px;"><span style="font-weight: 400;">We tend to not do that. We take them out in the worst traffic we can find and the worst conditions we can find. We let the demo operate in natural conditions. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">The truck handles it all and they see that. We're completely open with them and that's what gives us confidence.</span></p><p>As for TuSimple's bigger-name competitors like Tesla or Waymo, Price said TuSimple simply has better technology than others. Here's why a little-known autonomous trucking company is beating Tesla and Waymo in the race for driverless big rigs

GM President Dan Ammann in on the right. </p></div><p></p></div></div>General Motors <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/gm-is-buying-cruise-automation-and-taking-the-lead-on-driverless-cars-2016-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">acquired San Francisco based Cruise Automation in 2016</a> to add an additional dimension to the giant automaker's plans for self-driving cars. </p><p>While technologies such as Cadillac Super Cruise - which we recently tested - would focus on highway driving, Cruise would be folded into GM's efforts to bring autonomous vehicles to dense urban areas.</p><p>GM is preparing to roll out some of the first all-electric Chevy Bolts that have Cruise tech built in. And Cruise has been actively testing its systems in San Francisco - no easy feat, <a href="https://medium.com/@kyle.vogt/why-testing-self-driving-cars-in-sf-is-challenging-but-necessary-77dbe8345927">as Cruise CEO Kyle Vogt explaining in a Medium post.</a></p><p id="f630">"Anyone who has visited San Francisco knows driving here is kind of ridiculous," he wrote.</p><p>"Our vehicles encounter challenging (and often absurd) situations up to<span> </span><em>46 times</em><span> </span>more often than other places self-driving cars are tested. Perhaps for this reason, nobody else is regularly testing self-driving cars in SF. And while we're generally drawn to tough problems, we test in SF only because we have to. He also countered the argument that testing in simpler environments would enable Cruise to bring its vehicles online sooner.</p><p><span>"If dense areas were perhaps 20% more challenging than suburban areas, we might subscribe to this view," he wrote. "But in some cases, we're talking about a 4,658% jump! GM is testing its autonomous cars in one of the most challenging cities for driving

<p>But what if you don't know what you're passionate about?</p>
<p>Noah Kagan, the founder of a product marketing platform <a href="http://www.sumome.com">SumoMe</a>, has a good one-question test that works almost every time:</p>
<p>Ask a loved one what you're good at.</p>
<p>"One of the easiest ways I've found [to learn what you enjoy] is to ask the people who know you well," Kagan told <a href="http://pca.st/CUbx">James Altucher in a recent podcast</a>.</p>
<p><span>"'Guarantee, if you ask your wife, or you ask your parents, 'Hey what things have I done that you've really liked?' Or, 'What kind of business can you see me starting?' they'll find it really obvious."</span></p>
<p><span>Kagan has used two other tools to help him get to know himself and his interests better: journaling and therapy.</span></p>
<p><span>"<span>I think writing things down or journaling is a really powerful thing," Kagan told Altucher. "Self-awareness is a powerful tool I think is under-utilized. I do a lot of writing personally... </span><span>I also go to therapy. I say that outloud and it sounds like weakness, like 'Oh, he needs help.' But I've found it to be one of the most powerful tools I've used to invest in myself. Going to therapy, it's all about me. It helps me in my business and in my relationships and in my personal life."</span></span></p>

Fiat Chrysler says that it plans to put a self-driving car on the road by 2021 - a timeline similar to many other automakers - the consortium may allow the companies involved to leverage each other's technology and expertise to meet that goal. </p><p><strong>The three companies said that their engineers will work together in multiple locations around the world to jointly develop sensors and software for self-driving cars.</strong> Such partnerships are fast becoming standard practice across the automotive industry. Just last week, Intel teamed up with Toyota to <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/us-toyota-consortium-idUSKBN1AQ2GF?feedType=RSS&amp;feedName=technologyNews&amp;utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+reuters%2FtechnologyNews+%28Reuters+Technology+News%29">launch</a> a consortium focused on self-driving and connected car technologies. Fiat Chrysler also has a separate partnership with Waymo, Google's self-driving spinoff, to test its technology in Chrysler Pacifica minivans. These alliances help carmakers and technology providers share costs and accelerate the development of self-driving technology.</p><p><strong>In addition to these benefits, the alliance could allow the companies to explore new business models enabled by self driving technology:</strong></p><ul><li><strong>The group plans to develop autonomous taxis that consumers could hail through a smartphone app,</strong> according to Reuters. The market for such robo-taxi services could reach $2 trillion by 2030, McKinsey forecasts. By cutting out the need to pay a driver, autonomous taxis could make cab rides so cheap that consumers will ditch car ownership as their primary means of daily transportation. That prospect is pushing car companies to explore how they can use autonomous technology to challenge Uber and Lyft in the ride-hailing market.</li><li><strong>With the addition of Fiat Chrysler, the partnership could potentially bring its self-driving efforts into the trucking space as well.</strong> Fiat Chrysler has deep roots in the semi-truck manufacturing business in both Europe and North America, suggesting it could look to integrate any self-driving technology it develops for cars into its trucks too. That, in turn, could pave the way in the long run for an on-demand trucking service, similar to the ride-hailing concept, that allows shippers to book space in autonomous trucks for goods they need transported through an app.</li></ul><p><strong>Carmakers are still in early stages of exploring how self-driving technology will impact their business models.</strong> These companies need to hedge against the possibility that the traditional car ownership model could be upended by the arrival of self-driving cars. Ford, for example, is looking into providing shuttle services and metered parking, <a href="http://fortune.com/2017/08/17/fords-ceo-jim-hackett-mobility/">according to</a> its CEO, Jim Hackett. If car companies don't move aggressively into experimenting with new services and business models, they risk losing their place at the heart of consumer transportation to the hundreds of <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarwantsingh/2017/05/17/over-1700-start-ups-are-disrupting-the-automotive-industry/#475c22c65145">startups</a> pouring into the automotive space.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>BI Intelligence</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><strong>NVIDIA INVESTS IN CHINESE AUTONOMOUS TRUCKING STARTUP:</strong> Prominent chipmaker Nvidia joined a new $20 million funding round for China-based autonomous trucking startup TuSimple, Tech Crunch <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2017/08/16/nvidia-invests-in-chinese-autonomous-trucking-startup-tusimple/">reports</a>. Nvidia is providing the two-year-old startup with some of its technology, including graphics processing chips and its Drive PX 2 computer, one of the foremost computing solutions for self-driving cars in the industry today.</p><p><strong>TuSimple completed a test this past June with a truck that autonomously drove 200 miles between Yuma, Arizona and San Diego, California.</strong> Its self-driving software navigates roads through a combination of high-definition mapping, radar technology, and computer vision algorithms that process images from eight cameras positioned around the truck. TuSimple's CTO <a href="http://www.zdnet.com/article/nvidia-invests-in-autonomous-trucking-startup-tusimple/">said</a> that its software combined with Nvidia's graphics and computer processing technology will create "a world class platform that will disrupt the freight industry."</p><p><strong>Nvidia is one of the leading companies in the self-driving space, and has been moving aggressively into the trucking space in the last few months.</strong> The company has already formed partnerships with several automakers, including Toyota and Volvo, that use its technology in their testing and development of self-driving cars. In March, it <a href="http://e.businessinsider.com/click/9176123.4387/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY25ldC5jb20vcm9hZHNob3cvbmV3cy9udmlkaWEtZ29lcy1iaWctdGVhbXMtdXAtd2l0aC1wYWNjYXItb24tc2VsZi1kcml2aW5nLXRydWNrcy8_ZnRhZz1DT1MtMDUtMTBhYWEwYg/57961a9134bf8444718b4da0B7b6034e1">scored</a> a new partnership with truck manufacturer PACCAR and tested a proof-of-concept vehicle using the Drive PX2 computer, which Tesla also uses for its Autopilot program.</p><p><strong>Self-driving technology has enormous potential to disrupt the nearly $700 billion US trucking industry, but that disruption will be gradual and occur in stages over the coming decades.</strong> The trucking industry faces a growing <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/whos-to-blame-for-the-trucker-shortage-1488898803">shortage</a> of truckers, and self-driving trucks could fill that void while reducing labor and fuel costs. However, fully autonomous trucks are still a long way from hitting the road. However, it will be years before these companies' plans come to fruition, as major technology and regulatory barriers still need to be overcome before commercial drone delivery goes mainstream, a feature <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2017/08/15/separating-fiction-from-feasibility-in-the-future-of-drone-delivery/?ncid=rss&amp;utm_source=tctwreshare&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Techcrunch+%28TechCrunch%29&amp;sr_share=twitter">article</a> in Tech Crunch points out.</p><ul><li><strong>Chief among these barriers is the need for an air traffic control system that could track and manage large numbers of drones delivering packages to businesses and residences.</strong> This is both a technical and regulatory challenge, as regulatory authorities won't legalize commercial drone delivery until such a system is developed, Tech Crunch noted. NASA has been working on a system in the US and <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/aero/nasa-completes-latest-drone-traffic-management-flight-campaign">conducted</a> tests earlier this summer in conjunction with the FAA and various private companies. Amazon is also <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-05-18/amazon-s-delivery-drone-research-focuses-on-avoiding-birds">developing</a> its own air traffic control system for drones at a research center in Paris, France. However, these systems, which will play an important role in preventing crashes or flights into unauthorized airspace, are still many years away from launch.</li><li><strong>Companies haven't figured out how to  drop off packages by drone to customers' homes while avoiding damage or theft.</strong> Amazon, for one, is exploring multiple delivery methods. In its <a href="https://www.theverge.com/2017/3/24/15047424/amazon-prime-air-drone-delivery-public-us-test-mars">tests</a> in the UK, Amazon's drones land at designated locations on customers' properties. However, the company has also filed a <a href="http://money.cnn.com/2017/02/14/technology/amazon-drone-patent/index.html">patent</a> that suggests it may look into dropping packages by parachute. </li><li><strong>Lastly, drones still have to earn the trust of regulators and consumers by proving they are safe and reliable.</strong> That will require more testing, and an openness on the part of delivery companies to work with regulators by sharing data and conducting audits. Earning consumers' trust will probably take more time and effort to allay concerns about privacy and safety when drones are flying over their property.</li></ul><p><strong>In a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/the-drone-delivery-report-opportunities-and-challenges-in-automating-logistics-with-drones-2017-5">report</a> released earlier this year, BI Intelligence predicted that these various challenges will delay the commercial launch of drone delivery programs until after 2020.</strong> However, this delay will not dissuade companies from continuing to develop delivery drones. The benefits that drones can offer in automating the last mile of delivery - the final and most expensive part of the delivery process when the package reaches the customer's doorstep - are simply too large to ignore.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image on-image"><a title_source="BII" title_caption="" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/596e362a552be5b6088b5004-960/drone delivery consumer.png"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>BII</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><strong>In other news...</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Ford <a href="https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/ford-patents-removable-pedals-steering-wheel-in-self-driving-cars/">filed</a> a patent for a system that allows drivers to remove the steering wheel and pedals from a self-driving car.</strong> Most self-driving cars used in tests today have steering wheels and pedals that fold back into the vehicle's dashboard. Ford's system takes a seemingly easier approach by allowing customers to simply remove the steering wheel and pedals when they don't want to use them, and shows that Ford is already thinking ahead to when cars reach the final level of full autonomy and no longer require driving instruments.</li><li>E<strong>arlier this week, the American Trucking Association <a href="https://www.trucks.com/2017/08/15/rate-war-trucking-industry-revenue/">reported</a> that the trucking industry generated $676.2 billion in revenue last year,</strong> down 4% from $704.3 billion in 2015. The total amount of cargo moved by the industry actually increased from 10.17 billion tons in 2015 to 10.42 billion in 2016, but a rate war sparked by growing competition in the industry depressed total revenue. </li><li>Already troubled by a spate of recent scandals and ongoing controversy over the departure of its former CEO, <strong>Uber now has to <a href="https://www.recode.net/2017/8/15/16150818/us-government-ftc-privacy-uber-investigation-settlement">submit</a> to 20 years of privacy audits by outside parties following a new settlement reached this week with the Federal Trade Commission. </strong>In its settlement, the FTC said that Uber failed to ensure that its employees did not access the private data of its customers and drivers, despite the company's public assurances that it would do so. Note the "Go" button.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Getting your self-driving car to take you somewhere might be as simple as pressing "Go."</p><p>That's apparently Waymo's vision, at least. The autonomous vehicle company, which is a sister company to Google and is owned by <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/GOOGL-Quote">Alphabet</a>, was granted a design patent on Tuesday for a center console for a self-driving car. In the design drawings submitted for the patent, the console features a prominent "Go" button on top that would presumably set the car off on its way.</p><p>Should riders get nervous or uncomfortable, they could press another button that promises to "Stop Now."</p><p>It was unclear from the patent document exactly how riders would tell the car where they were heading when they pressed the Go button or how quickly the car would stop if they pressed the "Stop Now" one.</p><p>Waymo has been one of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/waymo-firefly-retiring-prototype-autonomous-self-driving-car-2017-6">pioneering companies</a> in self-driving cars. The company's autonomous vehicles have driven millions of miles in self-driving mode. </p><p>Other than the Stop Now and Go buttons, Waymo's patented console looks a lot like ones you might see in cars today. <p>Sales were up 19 percent in the UK and up 11 percent in North America, largely thanks to the Land Rover side of the brand, while Jaguar sales in the US dropped 2 percent.</p>

<p>To shore up that side of the equation, Jaguar wants to expand the appeal of its sedans. To do so, it has opted for something it has done only once before: all-wheel drive (AWD).</p>
<p>The first attempt, executed while JLR was owned by Ford, was the X-Type. Produced from 2001 to 2009, it never hit its sales goals.</p>
<p>Take two, orchestrated under the ownership of Tata Motors, will bring all-wheel drive to the 2013 XJ and upcoming XF.</p>
<p>Jaguar may be late to the party — Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and Cadillac all have AWD offerings — but it has not shown up empty-handed.</p>
<p>We were invited by Jaguar Land Rover last month to go to Montreal to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/driving-the-2013-jaguar-xj-awd-in-snow-2012-12">drive the new all-wheel drive XJ</a>, and were quite impressed.</p>

<p><strong>Putting The AWD To Work</strong></p>
<p>The big advantage of AWD is that it appeals to drivers in regions where snow and ice are facts of life — what Jaguar calls "key snowbelt markets" — like the northeastern US.</p>
<p>Now that it can be driven in rough conditions, the new XJ, with its sleek roof line, luxurious interior, and brand appeal that comes with the Jaguar name, is a suddenly viable option for many more buyers.</p>
<p>Equipped with AWD, it still operates most of the time like a typical, rear-wheel drive Jaguar. But in snow and ice, it sends as much as 50 percent of the 3-liter V6 engine's power to the front wheels, so the car can get moving in just about any condition.</p>
<p>To prove its capability, Jaguar brought us to Mecaglisse, a motorsports complex north of Montreal. There, we worked with professional drivers to put the car through its paces on snow covered hills, hairpin turns, slaloms, and a circular ice track.</p>
<p>We did each station three times: once in winter mode, once in dynamic mode, and then once with all the driver-assistance settings turned off.</p>
<p>The difference was clear, especially on the ice circle.</p>
<p>Dynamic mode was not especially impressive, but with winter mode on, we drove in tight circles without a problem. The car constantly shifts power to the wheel with the most traction.</p>
<p>That shifting produces an off-putting grating noise, but the result is that there's no risk of going off the track.</p>

<p>Driving on the ice with AWD and winter mode turned off turned into an impromptu drifting lesson that  ended quickly, with our car in some deep powder.</p>
<p><strong>The Rest Of The Ride</strong></p>
<p>On the plowed highway, we enjoyed the relaxing ride in automatic.</p>
<p>But to really put the new V6 to work — and enjoy its 340 hp — requires shifting the XJ into manual mode and rowing through the eight gears using the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.</p>
<p>Even on a day that focused on the car's performance, we were impressed by the XJ's luxurious interior. The heated leather seats, plentiful leg room, and good entertainment and sound systems were everything that one expects from a sedan that starts at $76,600.</p>
<p><strong>The Future Of Jaguar</strong></p>
<p>Jaguar Land Rover says its 2013 lineup is its strongest ever. The AWD XJ is rolling out now, to be followed in a few months by the AWD XF.</p>
<p>It has finally gone <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jaguars-newly-revealed-f-type-2012-9">back to its sports car roots with the new F-Type</a>. The hugely powerful XFR-S, which debuted in November, does not have the sleek beauty that is Jaguar's hallmark, but it delivers 550 horsepower, with an electronically limited top speed of 186 mph.</p>
<p>If these offerings match up with the XJ AWD in terms of quality, it is a very good sign that Jaguar Land Rover's business will keep booming this year.</p>
