(Eds: Adding details) Lucknow, May 28 () Fifteen more people died of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday, while 179 fresh infections pushed the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state to 7,170 officials said. With 15 more fatalities, the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 in the state has reached 197. "The total number of cases reported so far are 7,170 including 4,215 who have been treated and discharged and there are 2,758 active cases. The death toll in the state has reached 197," an official health department release said. Among the 15 fresh deaths, seven were from Agra and one each from Meerut, Ghaziabad, Firozabad, Jalaun, Basti, Mathura, Baghpat and Kushinagar, it said Till Wednesday, of the 182 reported deaths, the maximum 33 were from Agra, 23 from Meerut, 15 from Aligarh, 11 each from Kanpur and Moradabad, nine from Firozabad, six from Sant Kabir Nagar, five each in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Gorakhpur and four each from Jhansi, Mathura and Varanasi. Apart from that, three deaths each were from Ghaziabad, Basti, Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Etah and Ayodhya and two each from Jaunpur, Lucknow, Bulandshahr, Bijnor, Azamgarh, Bareilly, Ambedkar Nagar, Chitrakoot, Mainpuri and Jalaun. Besides these, one death each has been reported from Barabanki, Hapur, Siddharth Nagar, Raebareli, Amroha, Muzaffarnagar, Etawah, Mahrajganj, Shravasti, Unnao, Kanpur Dehat, Kushinagar, Mahoba and Lalitpur. Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said 7,923 samples were sent for testing on Wednesday. "Health workers have surveyed over 10 lakh migrant labourers and 959 have shown symptoms of coronavirus," he said. "We are emphasising on surveillance. Over 3.74 crore people have been surveyed by 94,856 teams in Uttar Pradesh," he said, adding the Centre's Aarogya Setu mobile application is being used and alerts are being sent to people. "We have made 28,054 calls on the basis of the alerts generated by the mobile app. Of them, 104 are positive and are undergoing treatment at various hospitals while 49 were treated and discharged. Lucknow, May 19 () The novel coronavirus toll in Uttar Pradesh rose to 123 on Tuesday with five more deaths, while the cases climbed to 4,926 after 321 people tested positive in the last 24 hours, the Health Department said. The number of active cases are 1,885, while 2,918 people have been discharged from hospitals after recovery. The total confirmed cases rose to 4,926, according to the bulletin. There have been a new fatality each in Meerut, Firozabad, Varanasi, Basti and Jalaun districts, taking the death toll to 123, the department said. A total of 6,870 COVID-19 tests were in the last 24 hours and the state is also ramping up its pool-testing facility, Health Department Principal Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had ordered opening up of laboratories in all 75 districts of the state, Prasad said. "We are emphasising on surveillance and over 3.23 crore people have been surveyed by 81,695 teams in Uttar Pradesh," he said. Prasad added that the Aarogya Setu mobile application was being used and alerts sent to people. "We have made 20,768 calls on the basis of the alerts generated by the app and 181 people have been quarantined, while 50 have tested positive for coronavirus," he said. The official said the migrant workers coming from other states were being monitored by health workers. "Over 4.76 lakh people have been screened, 565 of them showed symptoms of coronavirus and their samples were sent for testing," he said. "Of those, the reports of 117 have come and 26 people have tested positive." "The positivity percentage in migrants is 22.2, while in the state, it is 2.6," Prasad said. 5 more deaths, 321 new COVID-19 cases in UP

(Eds: Adds details) Lucknow, Jun 20 () Twenty-two people have succumbed to COVID-19 and 541 more people tested positive in Uttar Pradesh in the last 24 hours, officials said on Saturday. The death toll in the state is 529 now with the coronavirus tally reaching 17,135, they said. Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said 10,369 of the total infected have recovered. The state has 6,237 active COVID-19 patients now. Among the 22 new fatalities, five have been reported from Meerut, two each in Kanpur Nagar, Ghaziabad, Varanasi and Hapur, one each in Lucknow, Prayagraj, Sambhal, Mathura, Muzaffarnagar, Etawah, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad and Baghpat, a health department release said. As many as 65 cases were reported from Hapur followed by 55 in Kanpur Nagar, 41 in Gautam Budhnagar, 40 in Ghaziabad and 38 in Lucknow among others, the release said On Friday, 14,048 samples were tested, he said, adding that ASHA workers have tracked over 17 thousand people. Samples of 1,567 of them have been sent for testing, he said. Prasad said that random testing was being carried out in old age homes, orphanages and juvenile homes on the directions of the chief minister. COVID-19 cases have been found in old age homes in Sultanpur, Kushinagar and Jalaun districts and in orphanages and juvenile homes in Meerut and Kanpur. A government spokesman said urban slums were sampled randomly across the state. In the bigger districts, 10 slums were sampled. In the middle size districts, 5 slums per districts and in the smaller districts 2 slums per district were sampled. A total of 311 slums were randomly tested across the state. Thirty slums in 20 districts showed positivity for COVID-19 in pool test. Out of 4,160 samples tested, 75 samples tested positive and the results of 4,085 came out negative. Twenty districts which "showed positivity" are Ambedkar Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Sultanpur, Varanasi, Moradabad, Mathura, Shravasti, Aligarh, Auraiya, Badaun, Ballia, Etah, Firozabad, Ghazipur, Jalaun, Kanpur Nagar, Merrut and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Such random sampling is being carried out to map the vulnerability of high risk groups, generate awareness among them and take corrective measures in time to contain the spread of infection, the spokesman said. The chief minister has directed all DMs to take precautionary measures. Lucknow, May 29 () Four more persons died of coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh on Friday taking the death toll due to the disease to 201 in the state, while 275 fresh cases pushed the total number of COVID-19 cases to 7,445 officials said. "The total number of cases reported so far are 7,445 including 4,410 who have been treated and discharged while there are 2,834 active cases. The death toll in the state has reached 201," an official statement said here. The number of active cases includes 2,012 migrant workers who recently returned to the state, a senior official said. The four deaths were reported from Gautam Buddh Nagar, Mathura, Ambedkar Nagar and Unnao, the statement said. Till Thursday, of the 197 reported deaths, the maximum 40 were from Agra, 24 from Meerut, 15 from Aligarh, 11 each from Kanpur and Moradabad, 10 from Firozabad, six from Sant Kabir Nagar, five each in Gautam Buddh Nagar, Mathura and Gorakhpur and four each from Basti, Ghaziabad, Jhansi and Varanasi. (Eds: Adding details) Lucknow, May 5 () The novel coronavirus deaths in Uttar Pradesh rose to 56 on Tuesday with six more fatalities and the number of cases climbed to 2,880 after 118 people tested positive, a Health Department official said. The active coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases rose 1,836 and 987 patients have recovered, said Vikasendu Agrawal, joint director/state surveillance officer, Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme. Out of the six new COVID-19 deaths, Mainpuri, Jhansi and Bijnor districts reported their first fatality, while two patients died in Agra and one in Firozabad, Agrawal said in a statement. As many as 118 new cases were reported in the state, taking the number of people infected with the deadly pathogen to 2,880, Agrawal said. Of the new cases, Amethi and Kushinagar districts reported their first case. Twenty-four new cases were from Meerut, 13 from Gautam Buddh Nagar, 12 from Agra, 10 each from Ghaziabad, Siddharthnagar and Kanpur Nagar, and seven from Firozabad districts. Out of the total 56 deaths, 16 are in Agra, seven each in Meerut and Moradabad, five in Kanpur Nagar, four in Mathura, three in Firozabad and two in Ghaziabad districts. These are Birbal Sahni Inistitute of Palaeosciences, Lucknow; Indian Institute of Toxicology Research, Lucknow; Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow," Agarwal said. The official added that the total COVID-19 cases in the state were from 66 out of the 75 districts. Till now, 1,152 people of the Tablighi Jamaat, people related to them and those who came in contact with them have tested positive for COVID-19, the statement said. Earlier briefing reporters here, Health Department Principal Secretary Amit Mohan Prasad said: "As many as 20 laboratories are working and pool testing is also going in the state." Pooling of samples involves testing them in batches and when pooled sample tests positive, then individual samples are assessed. Pool testing reduces the number of test kits used, therefore, increases testing capacity. "On Monday, 300 pools were tested, in which there were 1,440 samples.
