ICICI Bank shares are sulking with the rest of the market, but analysts say it could make a lot of money for investors

<ul><li><keyword id="45660" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Yes-Bank">YES Bank</keyword> has reported its highest quarterly net <keyword id="6362247" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Profit">profit</keyword> ever since December 2018 at ₹207 crore.</li><li>Shares of YES Bank surged 5% as investors are cheering the company’s highest profit mark in recent times.</li><li>However, analysts remain disappointed with the company on high stress loans and recommend a ‘sell’ rating on the stock.</li></ul>Shares of YES Bank surged 5% on July 26 as the private bank reported a four-fold jump in its net profit to ₹207 crore in June quarter compared to a profit of ₹45 crore the same time last year. This is the highest profit for the private bank since December 2018. While investors cheered YES Bank’s good profit growth in recent years, some analysts remain disappointed with the company on high stress loans and recommend a sell rating on the stock. At 11:36 a.m., on July 26, shares of YES bank were trading 4.98% higher at 13.70 rupees. <div type="image" title="yes banks shares" height="900" width="1200" msid="84751111" hostid="261"></div> The sudden jump in the lender’s profit is because of the lower provisions made for bad loans held with the bank. It has lowered provisions by 88% to ₹644 crore in June. The bank also expects the provision requirement to go down going ahead. However, analysts studying the bank’s fundamentals and financials do not feel the same. “While there is a significant improvement in <keyword id="6357061" type="SPONSORED" weightage="20" keywordseo="earnings">earnings</keyword> in Q1, profitability remains low with return on assets of 0.3%, and stress loans remain uncomfortably high at 29%... We expect credit cost to rise to 2.1% in FY23E [expected] as ageing provisions catch up,” said a report by Elara Capital while recommending a ‘sell’ rating on the stock. Meanwhile, analysts at Kotak Institutional Equities believe that earnings are far too volatile given the impact slippages have on interest income (NII) and provisions. The bank’s capital position is above regulatory requirements, but the flexibility to make higher provisions is quite limited, said the report while maintaining a ‘sell’ rating on the stock. YES Bank shares surge 5% as investors see a ray of hope after bank reported four fold growth in profit

New Delhi, Jan 27 () ICICI Bank shares on Monday ended marginally higher after the company reported an over two-fold rise in its consolidated net profit for the December quarter.
 The company's scrip rose 0.45 per cent to close the trade at Rs 536.35 on the BSE. During the day, it jumped 2 per cent to Rs 545.10.
 On the NSE, it went up 0.38 per cent to close at Rs 535.90.
 A total of 20.98 lakh shares were traded on the BSE and about 3.8 crore shares on the NSE during the day.
 ICICI Bank on Saturday reported an over two-fold rise in its consolidated net profit at Rs 4,670 crore for the December quarter helped largely by the Essar Steel recovery and a jump in its core income.
 The Mumbai-headquartered bank, the country's second biggest private sector lender, had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,874.33 crore in the corresponding three months of the previous fiscal.
 On standalone basis, its net profit jumped to Rs 4,146 crore during the December 2019 quarter from Rs 1,605 crore in the year-ago period.
 Its core net interest income grew 24 per cent to Rs 8,545 crore on a 16 per cent domestic advances growth and a 0.37 per cent expansion in net interest margin to 3.77 per cent.
 Gross slippages came at Rs 4,363 crore for the reporting quarter highest during the fiscal year but the recoveries from assets like Essar Steel and a Rs 2,000 crore write-off ensured that the same was down on a net basis. SUM SHW

BNP Paribas rises as much as 7% after beating expectations with 3rd quarter results

While the company’s net profit declined marginally to ₹ 5,310 crore from ₹5,669 crore same time last year, Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) saw a 181% growth in individual loan disbursement in June quarter 2021. "HDFC surprised the street with almost steady asset quality performance during a quarter when most peers in housing as well as other asset finance sectors have reported a significant rise in stressed loans," said Kotak Institutional Equities in its report dated August 3. <div type="image" title="HDFC net profit revenue" height="900" width="1200" msid="84972826" hostid="261"></div> Home loan disbursement refers to the release of the credit amount by the bank or financial institution to the borrower. “While disbursements during April and May of the current financial year were somewhat impacted, business has reverted to normalised trends in the months of June and July,” said the company while announcing its June quarter results. The pandemic made it worse and, despite steady cuts in benchmark interest rates by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the recovery has been slow, to put it mildly. According to latest data from property consultants at Anarock, over 1.74 lakh under-construction homes ⁠— estimated to be worth over ₹1.4 lakh crore (about $20 billion) are stuck across the top seven cities in India. These projects were launched before 2014 but have not been completed since. The total number of properties under construction in India exceeds 626,000. Even HDFC’s earnings statement noted that people preferred ready-to-move properties compared to those under construction. Many of those who have taken home loans are also struggling to repay. India’s largest home loan provider HDFC has given real estate stocks another reason to rally

Axis Bank share price surges over 6% after earnings reveal that only 9.7% of its loans are exposed to the moratorium

<ul><li> The Mumbai-based bank posted a loss of ₹600 crore for the three months ended September 2019.</li><li>Yes Bank's share price has lost over 60% of its since the start of this year due to mounting cash crunch and the investors' anxiety with bank's earlier management.</li><li>Gross NPA, a measure of bad loans, spiked to 7.39% in the latest quarter, more than double compared to the first three months of 2019.</li></ul>The Mumbai-based Yes Bank posted a shocking loss of ₹600 crore for the three months ended September 2019. While the revenue fell 20%, costs rose during the quarter squeezing the operating profit by 40%. This is largely due to a sharp spike in bad loans. Gross NPA, a measure of bad loans, jumped to 7.39%— more than doubled compared to the level at the which the number was in the first three months of 2019. Gross NPA rose to ₹17,100 crore— nearly two and a half times more compared to three months ago. The amount of loans that turned sour during the quarter was over ₹5,945 crore. Bad loans take the wind out of Yes Bank— swings to a loss in the second quarter

ICICI Bank is one of the few banks in the Indian market that is optimistic about how the future will play out. While its peers laid in cautious commentary and guarded predictions of the future, ICICI Bank was clear in its stance that the Indian economy is getting back on its feet during the second-quarter earnings call. However, ICICI Bank’s numbers weren’t solely based on the turnaround of the Indian economy — the sale of its stake in ICICI Securities worth ₹305 crore helped. According to the bank, it has seen credit card spends have returned to 85% of pre-COVID levels. Mortgage disbursements, on the other hand, beat pre-COVID levels to reach an all-time high in September. Auto loan disbursements and disbursements across ICICI Bank’s rural portfolio also exceeded pre-COVID levels at the end of September. The management believes that pandemics are also short-term, so even COVID-19 will eventually blow over. Although there’s no vaccine on the market yet, people are getting used to going back to work with the relevant precautions in place, which means more business activity —- which, in turn, is good news for the bank. Even though it hasn’t had to use any of its COVID-related provisions yet, ICICI Bank is still keeping ₹8,772 crore in its coffers to cushion its balance sheet.

SBI rallies over 6% after strong earnings with analysts pegging it to be the first to recover among public sector banks

Shares of <keyword id="6358007" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-of-baroda">Bank of Baroda</keyword> jumped 9 per cent on Wednesday after the company reported a profit-after-tax of Rs 507 crore in the March 2020 quarter. The stock zoomed 9 per cent to Rs 55 on the BSE. On the NSE, it surged 8.51 per cent to Rs 54.80. State-owned Bank of Baroda on Tuesday reported a profit-after-tax of Rs 507 crore in the March quarter, helped by lower provisioning for bad loans. Effective April 1, 2019, the bank amalgamated <keyword id="6359442" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="dena-bank">Dena Bank</keyword> and Vijaya Bank with it. The numbers for the quarter/year ended March 31, 2020 are not comparable with that of same period of the year ended March 31, 2019. Bank of Baroda had reported a net loss of Rs 8,875 crore in the same period last year. The provisions for non-performing loans declined by 69.23 per cent to Rs 3,190 crore as against Rs 10,368 crore in the same quarter of last year. For the full year, the bank reported a net profit of Rs 546 crore as against a net loss of Rs 8,340 crore during FY19.
