Experts noted that global markets supported Trump's victory on Wednesday, and his success in the elections is expected to be more potentially transformative than initially thought. However, his decisions could have both positive and negative impacts on different sectors. "The Trump victory is turning out to be more potentially transformative than thought earlier. With the Congress and the Senate coming under Republican control and President Trump exercising power without bothering about another term in office, hugely transformational decisions are possible in the months following Trump's assumption of office. These decisions may turn out to be both good and bad" said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. "His pro-business initiative of 'America First' can strengthen the American economy. But if he walks his talk and imposes a 60% tariff on Chinese imports and a 10 to 20% tariff on imports from other countries, that would trigger inflation and jeopardise the Fed's policy of containing inflation, necessitating a rethink of the Fed's present policy of rate cut. This has the potential to negatively impact global stock markets,” Vijayakumar added. In the sectoral indices, a mixed performance was seen on the National Stock Exchange, with Nifty Auto, Nifty Pharma, Nifty IT, and Nifty FMCG gaining, while Nifty Bank, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Private Bank declined. In the quarterly announcements today, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Trent, Rail Vikas Nigam, Linde India, Lupin, NHPC, and Aditya Birla Fashion &amp; Retail are some of the major companies set to announce their second-quarter financial performance. In other Asian markets on Thursday, Japan's Nikkei index was down marginally by 0.4%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.68%. Nifty and Sensex continue downward trend, selling continues despite Trump's victory

The session will take place between 6 pm and 7 pm. The trade modification window will close at 7:10 pm. A special pre-open session will also commence between 5:45 pm and 6:30 pm for IPO-bound stocks, while the closing session will take place between 7:10 pm and 7:20 pm. Many believe that trading at the start of the new Samvat or during the muhurat is auspicious since it heralds prosperity and financial well-being for the traders. Also, Hindus believe Diwali to be an opportune time to start anything new. The market will remain closed for regular trading on Diwali, which falls on Friday, i.e., November 1, 2024, this year. Before this muhurat trading session, a 15-minute pre-opening session will also take place between 5:45 pm and 6 pm. However, intraday traders and scalpers will have to exercise extra caution since all intraday positions will be automatically squared off 15 minutes before the market closes. Since the trading window is only open for an hour, markets will largely be volatile. The focus during such sessions is generally not on profitability but on the inherent gesture. Historically, these sessions have delivered positive returns for investors. Last year, the Sensex rose by 355 points during the muhurat trading session. Between 2014 and 2023, the Sensex had ended muhurat trading session in reds just twice, in 2017, where it dipped by 0.04%, and 2018, where it fell by 0.6%. But this positivity does not hold for the period that immediately follows the muhurat trading session, with data suggesting that Sensex has seen dips during 7 out of 11 such periods.

Markets rebound in early trade amid buying in blue-chip stocks

Benchmark <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> jumped over 550 points to revisit the 82,000-level in morning trade on Wednesday after the Reserve Bank of India changed its monetary policy stance to stance to 'neutral', a move that may lead to a rate cut in the forthcoming policies. The 30-share BSE <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> soared 556.97 points, or 0.68 per cent, to 82,191.78 in early trade. The broader Nifty of NSE rose 78.70 points, or 0.31 per cent, to 25,091.85. Buying in banking and IT stocks added to the positive trend in markets, traders said. Among the 30 Sensex companies, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finance, Tata Motors, Bharti Airtel, PowerGrid and HCL Technologies were among the major gainers. On the contrary, Nestle India, ITC, HUL, HDFC Bank, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra were among the laggards. The Reserve Bank of India on Wednesday decided to keep the policy rate unchanged for the tenth time in a row. RBI maintained status quo despite the US Federal Reserve lowering the benchmark rates by 50 basis points last month. The central banks of some developed nations have also reduced their interest rates. Announcing the fourth bi-monthly monetary policy for the current financial year, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to keep the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent. The RBI has maintained the status quo on benchmark interest rates since February 2023. Das said RBI will remain watchful of elevated food inflation even when India GDP growth remains strong. "As anticipated, the RBI's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has kept interest rates unchanged in its policy announcement today. While there were hopes for a rate cut in line with the US Fed, the RBI has taken a prudent approach by focusing on key indicators like domestic inflation and financial stability, particularly in light of the declining individual savings as a percentage of GDP, which poses a financial stability risk," said Suresh Darak, Founder of Bondbazaar. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 5,729.60 crore on Tuesday, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought equities worth Rs 7,000.68 crore, according to exchange data. Nifty Sensex breaks five-session losing trend, experts predict positive outlook this week

The stock of the Mumbai-headquartered firm plunged 9.46% to ₹4,139.95 apiece on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). On the BSE, it depreciated by 9.37% to ₹4,143.60 per piece. The company's <keyword id="20000950" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-capitalisation" source="keywords">market capitalisation</keyword> (mcap) fell by ₹27,900.18 crore to ₹2,69,637.75 crore on the BSE. Meanwhile, the 30-share <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> jumped 443.71 points or 0.55% to 81,825.07 in early trade, while the NSE Nifty increased 131.85 points or 0.53% to 25,096.10. In a regulatory filing on Saturday, Avenue Supermarts reported a 5.78% increase in its consolidated net profit at ₹659.44 crore for the second quarter ended September 2024. The company had posted a net profit of ₹623.35 crore a year ago, the company said. Its revenue from operations rose 14.41% to ₹14,444.50 crore during the quarter under review. It was ₹12,624.37 crore in the corresponding quarter of the last fiscal. Avenue Supermarts' total expenses in the September quarter increased 14.94% to ₹13,574.83 crore. The total income, which includes other income, surged 14.34% to ₹14,478.02 crore, it added. "In today's session, the India VIX rose more than 9 per cent as the market awaits the MPC policy and <keyword id="21977342" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="repo-rate-cut" source="keywords">REPO rate cut</keyword> decision. Notably, India's fast composite PMI recorded a slightly slower growth in September. This is the slowest rate of growth in 2024 for the manufacturing and service sectors," she said. "According to me, to remain globally competitive, the RBI needs to match the US Fed rate, which will create a significant difference between India's lending growth and the long-term FD rates," she added. Ambala emphasized the importance of the RBI's decision in maintaining India's global competitiveness, particularly in comparison to the US Federal Reserve's rates. She noted that any repo rate cut by the RBI could inject more liquidity into the economy, potentially spurring a bullish trend in the equity market and benefiting asset classes like real estate. "If the RBI chooses a REPO rate cut, it will inject more liquidity into the economy, likely fueling a bullish market trend. On the other hand, account holders could enjoy better returns in asset classes such as the equity market and real estate," she said. "The banking and NBFC sectors are already responding to the potential rate cut, and we may see a decline of 100-200 bps points in the next 1.5 years. Since the market has been resilient, I believe it will adapt quickly to these economic changes," Ambala added. Currently, major indices such as Nifty, Bank Nifty, Financial Services, Mid Cap 100, Mid Cap 150, Next 50, FMCG, Consumption, Metal, Infrastructure, and Auto are trading at all-time highs. Sectors like NBFCs, Realty, Infrastructure, and PSU stocks are expected to remain in focus as potential rate cuts could open up significant opportunities for mid-term investors. The technical indicators show that the broader trend remains bullish, with the Relative Strength Index (RSI) for Nifty standing at 74 on the daily, 75 on the weekly, and 83 on the monthly timeframe. However, Ambala advised investors to approach the market cautiously. "The Nifty index can expect support levels at 25,870 and 25,680 with resistance at 26,050 and 26,130 in the next market session," she stated.

In the morning trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex scaled the 85,000 level, jumping 234.62 points or 0.27% to scale a new all-time intra-day peak of 85,163.23. The index, however, hit a low of 84,716.07 in the afternoon session due to profit-taking at record levels. Selling in <keyword id="20002610" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever" source="keywords">Hindustan Unilever</keyword>, Kotak Mahindra Bank and <keyword id="19900482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Bank" source="keywords">ICICI Bank</keyword> dragged the key index from the day's highs. The Nifty eked out gains of 1.35 points or 0.01% to close at a fresh high of 25,940.40. During the day, it climbed 72.5 points or 0.27% to hit a new record intra-day high of 26,011.55. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said, "Domestic benchmarks are attempting to sustain new highs, driven by the US Fed's aggressive rate cut. Meanwhile, the Chinese central bank's rate cut, and additional stimulus measures have positively influenced global investor sentiment, resulting in gains for domestic metal stocks." Conversely, FMCG and banking stocks exhibited declines due to profit-booking at higher levels, he said, adding that in the near term, strong inflows from FIIs, driven by the US Fed's dovish outlook and expectations of a rate cut by the RBI in October, are expected to maintain momentum. From the 30 Sensex firms, Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, Titan, Nestle, Bajaj Finance and Asian Paints were among the biggest laggards. Tata Steel, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and JSW Steel were among the gainers. The BSE midcap gauge climbed 0.21% while the smallcap index dipped 0.04%. Among the indices, FMCG declined by 0.75%, telecommunication (0.57%), services (0.45%), financial services (0.40%), consumer durables (0.31%) and bankex (0.30%). “Technically, the index is oscillating within a rising channel and is trading near the upper trend line resistance of the channel pattern, which is around the range of 25,900-26,000 levels, making them a strong hurdle in the short term. Therefore, on the upside, 26,000 will act as an immediate hurdle for Nifty. If the index sustains above 26,000 it could test the levels of 26,200. On the downside, 25,600 will serve as strong support for the index,” said Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates. Metal surged 2.78%, power jumped 1.38%, utilities (1.18%), commodities (0.95%) and industrials (0.47%). "Nifty ended on a flat note in a volatile session on Tuesday after crossing 26,000 for the first time. Asian stocks rose on Tuesday to their highest in more than two and half years, heartened by broad stimulus measures from China while expectations for more US rate cuts kept risk sentiment up," Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities, said. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory. Shanghai and Hong Kong markets ended significantly higher. European markets were trading in the green. The US markets ended higher on Monday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth ₹404.42 crore on Monday, according to exchange data. S&amp;P Global Ratings on Tuesday retained India's growth forecast at 6.8% for the current fiscal and said it expects the RBI to start cutting interest rates in its October monetary policy review. Global oil benchmark Brent crude jumped 2.35% to $75.64 a barrel. Sensex hits 85,000 level but closes flat as FMCG, banking shares drag

The 30-share <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> dropped 171 points to 84,743.04 in early trade. The <keyword id="19950205" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NSE-Nifty" source="keywords">NSE Nifty</keyword> declined 48.7 points to 25,891.70. From the 30 Sensex firms, Tech Mahindra, Asian Paints, HCL Technologies, Nestle, Adani Ports, Infosys, Tata Motors and State Bank of India were the biggest laggards. Power Grid, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, HDFC Bank and Maruti were among the gainers. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) offloaded equities worth Rs 2,784.14 crore on Tuesday, according to exchange data. "The monthly expiry on Thursday could result in sideways movement in intra-day trades, but a bullish undertone and robust growth prospects going ahead would see the markets bounce back at regular intervals," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. In Asian markets, Seoul traded lower while Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong quoted in the positive territory. The US markets ended higher on Tuesday. Global oil benchmark Brent crude dipped 0.28 per cent to USD 74.96 a barrel. After oscillating between highs and lows during the day on Tuesday, the BSE benchmark dipped 14.57 points or 0.02 per cent to settle at 84,914.04. During the day, it jumped 234.62 points or 0.27 per cent to scale a fresh all-time intra-day peak of 85,163.23. The Nifty eked out a marginal gain of 1.35 points or 0.01 per cent to 25,940.40. Markets decline in early trade on profit-taking

But the question is, what is driving this frenzy, which comes on the heels of the Fed's recent announcement slashing interest rates by a significant 50 basis points? Experts explain that the most direct impact of the rate cut comes in the form of higher <keyword id="20078820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-capital-inflows" source="keywords">foreign capital inflows</keyword> into emerging markets like India. The impending anticipation of this is what is driving the rally witnessed in the stock market today. As per data from NSDL’s FPI monitor, foreign investors infused a net total of Rs 2,341.64 crore in Indian equity markets via stock exchanges, as of September 19th, 2024. Data shows that September has seen inflows of around Rs 27,862 crores in first half of September. This is around 4 times the flows seen during the entire month of August. Just within this week (till September 19), FPI inflows have touched Rs 5,419 crores. Palka Arora Chopra. This is also why the Dow Jones Industrial Averages and S&amp;P 500 index surged to 1.7%, and Asia saw a rise in markets across Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong”, she continued. Riding on the tide of higher foreign inflows is the strengthening of Indian Rupee. Already, the rupee has regained strength from a high of 84.0 to 83.7 over the last week, and this trend may continue in the near term. Santosh Meena, Head of Research, Swastika Investmart Ltd notes that historically, emerging markets tend to outperform during the onset of a rate-cut cycle in the U.S. “Indian markets, backed by robust fundamentals, remain resilient despite concerns over valuations. Large-cap stocks, particularly in the private banking sector, continue to look attractive, fueling the current bullish momentum. This positive trend is expected to persist unless significant negative developments arise on the domestic or global front”, he highlights. Mr. Pradeep Gupta, Co-founder &amp; Vice-chairman, Anand Rathi Group notes that this rate cut comes with some short-term benefits for the country, which means stronger rupee and potential capital inflows. "A stronger rupee would make imports cheaper, potentially improving India’s trade balance. However, these advantages may be temporary if the US economy continues to weaken. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) may follow the Fed’s lead but not immediately. Improved global sentiment could drive a rally in <keyword id="19991358" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-markets" source="keywords">Indian markets</keyword>, as emerging economies like India become more attractive to investors", notes Gupta. But note that in the longer term, the direction of the Indian stock market will depend largely on global economic conditions, and particularly the health of the US economy. If the US achieves a “soft landing”, as is targeted by Fed, and avoids a recession, Indian equities may experience gradual growth. However, if the global outlook deteriorates, Indian markets—especially mid and small-cap segments, could come face to face with increased volatility and market downturns. <h2>What should your investment strategy be?</h2>SEBI registered Investment Advisor Gaurav Goel advises having a thorough look at your portfolio whenever the equity markets hit a fresh high. Look, it is practically impossible to time the markets. But, as a smart investor, markets hitting a fresh high is a good time to rebalance your portfolio, so that you can cushion your funds from any significant downturn that will invariably stem from any market downturns thereafter "When equities hit all time highs, there is a natural tendency of equity component of your asset allocation to breach the prescribed asset allocation. In such a situation, on should reassess the asset allocation and shave off excess percentages from the equity allocation to revert to the mean". Goel also suggests hedging a portion of your portfolio by buying naked long dated put options on benchmark index like Nifty 50. This way, you'd be able to benefit from a decrease in the prices of underlying assets, without having to own it. But most importantly, "At these crests, its important to shuffle your portfolio. Remove the crap, low-value stocks that might have made their in your portfolio during bullish phase, and replace with high quality stocks. Shift your assets more toward the large cap stocks/index funds where the volatility would be less or towards sector/market caps, which are less expensive on valuations", Goel continued. As for traders looking to make the most of the ongoing upward trajectory of the market, Osho Krishan, Senior Analyst, Technical &amp; Derivatives, Angel One, advises "capitalizing on the upward momentum by taking profits, rather than adopting an aggressive stance in the overbought territory". "From a technical perspective, we have entered a phase where the market is overbought, as indicated by various metrics. Therefore, it is crucial to avoid complacency and instead adopt a practical and realistic approach to the current situation", he continued. Anirudh Garg- Founder and Fund Manager at Invasset PMS explains that "When markets hit an all-time high, investors need to reassess their strategies to navigate potential risks while still capitalizing on opportunities. However, it’s essential to understand that not every market high signals overvaluation. There’s a key difference between markets reaching record levels and being fundamentally expensive. Identifying this distinction helps avoid premature decisions based solely on market peaks". "In particular, when mid-cap and small-cap stocks exhibit stretched valuations, investors should shift their focus to high-quality companies. These are firms with robust balance sheets, consistent earnings growth, and strong competitive advantages, often found in sectors linked to steady inflation", says Garg. Naturally, quality stocks tend to be more resilient in volatile environments, offering stability and better protection against downside risk. Also, don't forget to keep an eye out for the risk-reward ratio, which becomes critical during expensive markets. FIIs turning buyers last week mainly due to some large bulk deals also has improved sentiments in the market," said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. Global oil benchmark <keyword id="20025497" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Brent-crude" source="keywords">Brent crude</keyword> climbed 0.14 % to USD 77.04 a barrel. Gross GST collections in August grew 10 % to about Rs 1.75 lakh crore, reflecting higher domestic consumption. In its best winning streak since its launch in 1996, the NSE Nifty soared 83.95 points or 0.33 % to hit a new lifetime closing high of 25,235.90, taking its victorious run to the 12th day in a row. Said Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities, "today, the benchmark indices registered a fresh all time high of 25,333.65/82,725.28, the Nifty ends 43 points higher while the Sensex was up by 194 points. Among Sectors, FMCG index rallied 0.88% whereas Metal index shed over 1%. Technically, after gap up opening market witnessed some intraday profit booking at higher levels. "However, the short-term texture of the market is still in to the positive side. Additionally, on intraday charts market is still holding higher high and higher low series formation, which supports further uptrend from the current levels. We are of the view that, 25200/82350 would act as a sacrosanct support zone for the day traders. As long as it is trading above the same, the bullish sentiment is likely to continue. On the higher side, it could move up till 25,400-25,425/82800-83000. On the flip side, below 25,200/82,350 traders may prefer to exit out from the trading long positions. Below the same, the market could slip till 25,100-25,050/82,000-81,800", he continued.

Sensex, Nifty hit fresh all-time high levels, as Sensex closes over 82k, Nifty crosses 25k mark

The decision, which was taken 11:1, was not unanimous, a striking departure from all other unanimous interest rate decisions taken by Fed over the last 2 years. Per chairman <keyword id="20058769" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jerome-powell" source="keywords">Jerome Powell</keyword>, the decision was taken in light of easing inflationary pressures in the US economy, which came down to 2.53% this month, as opposed to 2.89% a month prior, and 3.67% last year. "In light of the progress on inflation and the balance of risks, the Committee decided to lower the target range for the federal funds rate by 1/2 percentage point to 4-3/4 to 5 percent. In considering additional adjustments to the target range for the federal funds rate, the Committee will carefully assess incoming data, the evolving outlook, and the balance of risks. The Committee is strongly committed to supporting maximum employment and returning inflation to its 2 percent objective", the FOMC committee highlighted in its statement. Signaling more aggressive rate cuts going ahead, Fed projections implied an additional 50 bps rate cut from current levels within 2024, with rate trims going as high as 100 bps in 2025, and another 50 bps in 2026. Notably, last month, Powell had strongly hinted towards a rate cut, saying it was "time for policy to be adjusted". Over the last few years, high interest rates had made home equity loans and credit card interest rates super expensive. In March 2022, which was the first time Fed hiked interest, rates on home equity loans stood at 5.96%%. This has jumped to 8.49% in September 2o24. At 20.78%, credit card interest rates have also been sky-high, swelling by over 400 basis points since March 2022. Indian markets stay flat On Wednesday, Indian equity markets maintained a cautious outlook, with <keyword id="19950208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE-Sensex" source="keywords">BSE Sensex</keyword> and Nifty50 dipping by 0.16% each to close the day in red. During the day, both Sensex and Nifty scaled record highs of 83,326.38 points, and 25.377.55 points respectively. Most market experts anticipated a 25-bps rate cut, but with Fed delivering a mammoth-size cut, the focus is now set to shift from inflation to unemployment, with the rate cut offering much-needed, immediate relief to US economy, which has, for long, been battling high borrowing costs. Per Fed officials, unemployment is set to rise to 4.4% this year, up from its present rate of 4.2%, as recorded in August. Per Bloomberg reports, shortly after the announcement, gold prices also jumped to record highs. The prices of yellow metal were already hovering near all-time highs ahead of the announcement. A rate cut pushes to weaken the greenback, which is what gold is priced in internationally. This makes bullion cheaper, pushing up its demand globally.
