For someone who was cajoled into taking up sport to shed weight, <keyword id="1115774" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="neeraj-chopra" source="Orion">Neeraj Chopra</keyword>'s rise to stardom from a Haryana village has been nothing short of spectacular, and at 25, he is on course to becoming one of India's greatest sporting icons. He is now only the second Indian -- again after Bindra -- to simultaneously hold the Olympics and World Championships title. Bindra won the World Championships title when he was 23, and the Olympics gold at 25. With age on his side, Chopra is bound to achieve more success if he stays fit. He will have two Olympics and two World Championships before he turns 30. Superstardom after Tokyo gold The world junior championships triumph in 2016 heralded Chopra's rise on the world stage but it was the gold in Tokyo in 2021 that etched his name in Indian sporting history. The adulation showered on him was unprecedented; it was at par with if not more than some of the cricket icons. He was the toast of the nation and having attended so many felicitation programmes on one occasion exhaustion and fever forced him to leave a welcome function near his village. Athletics Federation of India president Adille Sumariwalla said recently that Chopra's Tokyo Olympics gold has made parents think that there is a career beyond cricket in India. Sumariwalla may not be off the mark as more than half a dozen Indians are currently capable of hurling the spear above 80m and three Indians, including Chopra, featured in the World Championships men's javelin final on Sunday. August 7, the day Chopra won gold in Tokyo, is now being celebrated as National Javelin Day. Consistency is the key for Chopra Consistency has been Chopra's forte since his Tokyo triumph as he has thrown above 86m in all the events he has taken part in the last two years. Of course, he has not competed in too many competitions -- just two this year before the World Championships -- but there has not been any drop in his performance. The least distance he has cleared since the Tokyo gold was the 86.69m while winning the Kuortane Games title in Finland in June last year. His best is the 89.94m which fetched him a second place at the Stockholm Diamond League, also in June last year. Compared to this, his closest competitors such as Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic has thrown below 85m many times. Of course, Vadlejch has featured in more than 20 competitions in the last two years, more than twice as that of Chopra. It's almost the same in case of Julian Weber of Germany, who was fourth in Tokyo and also in the 2022 World Championships. Anderson Peters of Grenada suffered a dip in form after winning gold in the 2022 World Championships -- his second after 2019 edition triumph -- and he could not even touch 80m in the qualification round here on Friday to make an early exit. Ultimate down-to-earth and people's champion Chopra may not be as articulate as the likes of Bindra but his 'I can't hurt or disappoint anybody' mindset can floor anyone. He would readily oblige fans in India and abroad for selfies and autographs. He will not say no to scribes wanting to talk to him. No doubt, the Tokyo Olympics success brought certain restrictions as far as access to him is concerned with 'guards' surrounding him often, but he remains down to earth as before. He is still accessible in the playing arena. Chopra speaks from the heart and not in a nuanced way. He would even candidly tell scribes that medals are not awarded in certain events. Out of this, various divisions at Jamshedpur including Tubes, an amount of ₹158.31 crore will be given. The minimum and maximum annual bonus payable will be ₹34,920 and ₹3,59,029 respectively. T V Narendran, CEO &amp; MD, Atrayee Sanyal, Vice President (HRM) and other senior executives signed on management's behalf while Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, president, <keyword id="230274" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Workers-Union">Tata Workers Union</keyword>, Shailesh Kumar Singh, deputy president, Tata Workers' Union, Satish Kumar Singh, general secretary, Tata Workers' Union and other office bearers signed on Union's behalf. New Delhi, May 7 () Paytm Payments Bank on Thursday said it has crossed Rs 600 crore in fixed deposit accounts as it witnessed growth during the lockdown period due to volatility in other assets. "Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) has crossed Rs 600 crores in fixed deposit accounts held with its partner IndusInd Bank," PBBL said in a statement. "During this period of volatility in other asset classes, a large number of PPB bank account holders are moving their savings into fixed deposits during the ongoing lockdown," it added. PPBL offers its customers the choice to opt for a fixed deposit account with its partner bank, allowing them to earn up to 7 per cent per annum interest, which is among the highest in the industry. "We believe that wealth management products should be available to all, irrespective of their quantum of wealth. It is a proud moment for us to see that millions of bank account holders understand the benefit of fixed deposits," PPBL CEO and Managing Director Satish Kumar Gupta said in a statement. New Delhi, Apr 16 () Paytm Payments Bank will now issue Mastercard debit cards to its account holders to enable them perform online transactions, make payment in stores as well as withdraw cash from ATMs. "Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) has partnered with Mastercard for the issuance of virtual and physical debit cards. To start with, PPBL will issue Mastercard virtual debit cards to its new customers, enabling them to perform secure online transactions that make everyday purchases faster, easier and safer," PPBL said in a statement on Thursday. PPBL has announced that it aims to issue over 10 million digital debit cards in FY 2020-21. "Soon customers will also have an option to request a physical card, enabling them to do contactless in-store transactions supported by Mastercard's chip-based technology. Additionally, they will be able to withdraw cash at more than 1 million ATM terminals across most of the world," the statement said. PPBL claims to have 5.7 crore bank account holders and 30 crore digital wallets. "We aim to provide maximum flexibility to our customers to choose their preferred mode of digital payments, and our partnership with Mastercard is in the same direction," PPBL CEO &amp; Managing Director Satish Kumar Gupta said. Mastercard South Asia division President Porush Singh said that while digital payments are taking off in India, growing faster than many other countries around the world, 90 per cent of all retail transactions are still in cash. "Mastercard is committed to the government's vision to fuel the growth of digital payments. Towards this goal, Mastercard is pleased to offer its fully-integrated global payment platform to Paytm Payments Bank to enable cardholders to have access to the safest way of making electronic payments," Singh said. <keyword id="3920057" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paytm-Payments-Bank-Ltd">Paytm Payments Bank Ltd</keyword> (PPBL) on Tuesday said its net profit in fiscal year 2019-20 grew to Rs 29.8 crore from Rs 19.2 crore in the previous fiscal, translating into a growth of over 55 per cent. The bank said its annual revenue also showed a sharp increase and crossed Rs 2,100 crore mark in FY20 from Rs 1,668 crore in the previous fiscal. The bank attributed the growth to "higher customer acquisition in smaller cities and towns". "We have continued to lead digital banking in India and have constantly improved upon our own benchmark for performance. In FY20, we have registered growth across all parameters, including the number of account holders, saving account deposits, fixed deposits and transactions," PPBL MD and CEO Satish Kumar Gupta said. The focus remains on launching innovative products and services to accelerate financial inclusion in the country, he added. "The bank has facilitated more than 485 crore transactions worth Rs 4.6 lakh crore. Domestic money transfers have accounted for about Rs 29,000 crore, which is significant growth from last fiscal year," the bank said in a statement. The base of current and savings account holders increased to over 58 million, helping the bank double its deposits in savings accounts to over Rs 1,000 crore compared to last year, it added. PPBL also said it will launch cheque book facility for all account holders, and customers can order cheque books through their app. They would need to upload their signature and supporting documents on the 'Cheque Book' section, select the variant (10 or 25 leaves) and submit their request after payment. Once requested, the cheque book would be delivered at the KYC address within 7-10 working days. Paytm Payments Bank posts a 55% jump in profits for FY20

New Delhi, Jul 13 () A doctor attached with the Indian boxing team on Monday tested positive for COVID-19 even as all the pugilists who have assembled for training in Patiala came out negative but stared at a possible suspension of the proposed camp due to the development. The 11 boxers, including Asian Games champion and world silver-medallist Amit Panghal, will be retested as they were at the same quarantine facility with the doctor. "Dr Amol (Patil) was in quarantine in a centre outside the main campus of national Institute of Sports (NIS) Patiala. As per protocol, before he is allowed to enter main hostel and sports arena, he was given the COVID test on the 7th day (of quarantine) and tested positive," the Sports Authority of India said in a statement to when asked about the development. "He has been shifted to the state-run COVID centre. Those who are identified as primary contact will be tested tomorrow. The quarantine period for all persons staying in the same quarantine facility has been extended by one week. The centre has been sterilised as per protocol," it added. The boxers have, however, tested negative but will undergo a second round of testing on Tuesday. "Dr Patil is completely asymptomatic, not even mild symptoms are there. He will recover soon enough," said a source close to the team. Patil has been a regular in Indian boxing and travelled with the team to the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the world championships last year. The pugilists were due to start training later this month or early in August after the Boxing Federation of India got the SAI nod to conduct the national camp amid the pandemic. The conduct of the camp is currently being overseen by SAI after the Delhi High Court stayed the sports ministry's recognition to 57 national federations including the BFI. Nine Indian boxers have qualified for the Olympics, postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic. They are -- Amit Panghal (52kg), Manish Kaushik (63kg), Vikas Krishan (69kg), Ashish Kumar (75kg), Satish Kumar (+91kg), MC Mary Kom (51kg), Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), and Pooja Rani (75kg). Of these, Mary Kom continues to train at her home in Delhi as attending the camp was optional. As per the SAI's safety protocols for training, boxers have been barred from doing human sparring, told not to access the ring and use their personal equipment for all forms of training. They were to be offered cover for COVID-19 in their medical insurance, as per the SOP made by the BFI.
