New Delhi, <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> on Thursday said it has secured record pre-bookings for its fifth-generation foldable devices in India, with more than 100,000 consumers pre-booking Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 in the first 28 hours. As compared to the fourth generation foldables, the South Korean giant received 1.7 times more pre-bookings for Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 during the first 28 hours. In India, pre-bookings for Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 opened on July 27 and the devices will go on sale from August 18. "The new devices prove our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers through innovative technology. The success of Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 shows that Indian consumers are highly sensitive to new innovations," said JB Park, President and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia. With the new foldables, Samsung aims to reach over 50 per cent market share in the country in the super-premium ($1,000 and above) segment. "I am confident that our new devices will help the mainstreaming of foldables, and help us consolidate our leadership in India," Park added. Galaxy Z Flip5 starts at Rs 99,999 (8GB/256 GB), while Galaxy Z Fold5 is available from Rs 154,999 (12GB/256 GB). Customers pre-booking Galaxy Z Flip5 will get benefits worth Rs 20,000 and those pre-booking Galaxy Z Fold5 will get benefits worth Rs 23,000. The new devices can be pre-booked across all leading online and offline retail stores.  The Samsung Galaxy A50 will cost ₹19,990 for the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model while the 64GB storage device is priced at ₹22,990. The Samsung Galaxy A30 will be slightly cheaper with prices starting at ₹16,990. Similarities Both, the Samsung Galaxy A50 and A30 come with a ‘3D Glasstic’ design which allows the outer body of the device to change colors while retaining a glass finish. They also come with a modest 4,000mAh battery and the ordinary notch has been downsized using a infinity-U screen on a 6.4-inch AMOLED display. And, that’s about the extent of their similarities. Differences The Samsung Galaxy A50 is more premium of the two sporting the more powerful Exynos 9610 chipset while the Samsung Galaxy A30 is powered by the Exynos 7885 chipset. The former also has triple rear camera setup (25MP primary sensor, 5MP depth sensor and a 8MP ultra-wide sensor) while its counterpart only has two cameras in the back (16MP primary sensor and a 5MP depth sensor). While both phones feature fingerprint scanners as a security feature, the Samsung Galaxy A30 has a normal fingerprint sensor located on the back of the devices. Samsung Galaxy A50 and Samsung Galaxy A30 prices revealed ahead of launch in India

South Korean major <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> has dethroned <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword> to lead the overall mobile phone market in India in the second quarter of this year, a new report said on Friday. Samsung led the overall mobile phone market with a market share of 24 per cent, followed by Xiaomi and Vivo, said IDC India. The mid-premium segment ($300 and less than $500) with a share of 4.8 per cent declined YoY by (48.4 per cent) with top models such as Samsung's Galaxy A51 and A71, Vivo's V19, Apple's iPhone SE (2020), and the OnePlus 7T. In the smartphone segment only, Samsung surpassed Vivo for the second slot despite a strong YoY decline of (-48.5 per cent) in the second quarter to 4.8 million units. The Galaxy M21 was among the nation's top five shipped models and most of its online-exclusive Galaxy M series was opened to offline channels, though at higher prices. Samsung stood in second place in the online channel with a share of 22.8 per cent and was the leader in the offline channel with 29.1 per cent share in 2Q20. The brand also partnered with Benow and Facebook, enabling offline retailers to start sales using digital platforms, thus adhering to social distancing norms, said the IDC report. Four out of the top five models in the second quarter were Xiaomi models, namely the Redmi Note 8A Dual, Note 8, Note 9 Pro, and Redmi 8, accounting for 21.8 per cent share. Xiaomi launched its Mi Commerce solution to create an omnichannel experience for partners but also continued its dominance in the online channel with 42.3% share in 2Q20, said the IDC.

Samsung topples Xiaomi as the overall mobile phone leader in India

In another major push to Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, <keyword id="16129" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="HTC">HTC</keyword> has decided to make mobile handsets in India. 
 
After Samsung Electronics, HTC has become the second major global smartphone maker to enter India to make handsets. 
 
The company has signed an agreement with Global Devices Network, which established a manufacturing and assembling unit in Noida three month back. 
 
Commercial production is expected to start in July as trials have started. 
 
Global Devices Network (GDN) managing director Nitesh Gupta confirmed to Economic Times that the company was in talks to start commercial assembling of HTC smartphones. 
 
GDN produces smartphones for Zen. 
 
HTC will pierce in the entry-level to mid-segment devices, priced between Rs 10,000 and about Rs 25,000. A quality control unit will also be set up at the manufacturer's plant. 
 
"Besides the evident duty differentiation of 6% to 6.5% that companies would get after making in India, they will also get access to a big market and labour," Jayanth Kolla, co-founder of telecom research firm Convergence Catalyst, told ET. 
 
Meanwhile, Sony, LG, Xiaomi and Motorola have also shown interest in manufacturing in India due to potential of the country's smartphone market Research firm Gartner's principal analyst Anshul Gupta told the financial daily that he expected Indian smartphone sales to grow 40% in 2015, up from 27% in 2014.

HTC does a Samsung, to manufacture mobile handsets in India

<keyword id="107877" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="samsung-india" source="Orion">Samsung India</keyword> on Friday said that its mobile business division garnered record revenue of Rs 14,400 crore during the festive months of September and October in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, making it the best Diwali sales for the South Korean giant. <keyword id="10591" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="samsung" source="Orion">Samsung</keyword> India's mobile division turned in record sales riding on strong consumer demand for premium smartphones such as the Galaxy S22 series and the recently-launched foldables, <keyword id="6624110" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aditya-babbar" source="Orion">Aditya Babbar</keyword>, Senior Director and Head of Product Marketing, Mobile Business at Samsung India, told IANS. "Sales grew in healthy double digits during the festive months on the back of strong demand for premium smartphones and Samsung's premium smartphones (Rs 30,000 and above) grew 2 times in the current year (January-September)," <keyword id="345741" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="babbar" source="Orion">Babbar</keyword> informed. Both the Galaxy S22 series and the fourth generation of foldables -- Galaxy Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 -- have seen huge demand from customers. Samsung said it continues to lead the broader smartphone market by sales for the 10th year running. "We have consolidated our smartphone leadership this year. Along with premium smartphones, 5G smartphones have seen huge demand from consumers in India," Babbar said. According to Counterpoint Research, Samsung led the 5G smartphone segment in India for the fourth straight quarter in Q3. Samsung was also the fastest-growing brand in the premium segment. Samsung held the second spot in Q3 in India and was the only smartphone brand among the top five to register an annual growth. The company also led the handset (feature phone+smartphone) market with an 18 per cent share in the country. Babbar said that Samsung had the biggest 5G portfolio in India, with more than 20 5G smartphones and tablets selling in the country right now. "Consumers have upgraded in a big way -- both to 5G smartphones and to premium smartphones -- in the just concluded festive season," Babbar told IANS, citing the growth in 5G smartphones as another big reason for Samsung India's success. Babbar said the company's innovations in terms of platforms and services have helped consumers in a big way. Samsung Finance+, the company's lending platform for new-to-credit customers, saw more than 1 million transactions during the festive season, he informed. Samsung's mobile division logs its best ever Diwali sales to tune of ₹14,400 crore in Sep-Oct

New Delhi, Jan 3 () Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd on Friday said it has inked a pact with Samsung India Electronics for manufacturing LED TVs for the latter.
 The company, however, didn't disclose details about production and other aspects of the partnership.
 "Dixon shall be manufacturing LED TV for Samsung from its manufacturing facility located at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh," the company said in a BSE filing.
 Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd is engaged in manufacturing products in the consumer durables segment, lighting and mobile phones markets in India. Its diversified product portfolio includes CCTV and DVRs as well.
 "Considering the faith they have bestowed on Dixon by collaborating in washing machines, mobile phones and now LED TVs, we are hopeful that our partnership grows sturdier with time," Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd Executive Chairman Sunil Vachani said.
 The company also provides services such as repair and refurbishment of set top boxes, mobile phones and LED TV panels.
 Samsung had shifted its entire TV manufacturing to Vietnam from Chennai last year. According to sources, the environment is now conducive for manufacturing LED TVs in India after the government's move to roll back custom duty imposed on display panels to zero.
 Presently, Samsung imports its portfolio of TVs from Vietnam to India under the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

T&amp;C apply." According to a video attached to the tweet, the launch of the new payment service is on January 31. 'Samsung Pay gets better, Just 1 day to go," said the tweet. According to Sam Mobile, the company will rename it as Samsung Wallet which is now ready for the Indian market. Earlier this month, the company had revealed that the new app would be launched in the country before the end of January. Samsung Wallet would also be launched in seven other markets. With the help of Samsung Wallet, users can securely store things like boarding passes, credit cards, cryptocurrency, debit cards, digital keys, identification cards, login passwords and even loyalty/membership cards. 'Samsung Pay' to become 'Samsung Wallet' in India on Jan 31

<keyword id="127875" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vineet-Taneja">Vineet Taneja</keyword>, <keyword id="10591" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung">Samsung</keyword> India head for mobile phones and digital imaging, has resigned, according to industry sources. This marks the departure of one of the top two Indian executives at the South Korean firm in India. The other high level Indian executive in the company is <keyword id="210829" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ravinder-Zutshi">Ravinder Zutshi</keyword> who is the deputy managing director of Samsung India. 
 
Talks about Taneja’s exit were doing the rounds over the past two months. However, he has not made up his mind regarding the next job, as per sources. 
 
Although Taneja could not be immediately reached for comments on his quitting, a Samsung India spokesperson said, "Samsung does not comment on rumour or speculation." 
 While Samsung has maintained its market share in the mobile phone business, the Indian arm has been facing pressure lately for losing some momentum. For instance, sales of its <keyword id="1896085" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Galaxy-S5">Galaxy S5</keyword> and <keyword id="1593765" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Galaxy-S4">Galaxy S4</keyword> models have been below the company's expectations. 
 
This was one of the reasons behind Taneja's exit, according to a senior trade partner of Samsung India. "There's huge pressure on Vineet to continue with 30-40% growth rate despite the market growth rate slowing down," the trade partner said. 
 
Taneja was also unhappy with the changes in the management of Samsung India, which saw him report to SK Kim, managing director (sales). Earlier, he directly reported to BD Park, managing director of Samsung India. 
 
According to CyberMedia Research, Samsung led the Indian smartphone market with 38.9% share in the January-March quarter, followed by Micromax at 19.1%, Karbonn at 6.9%, Lava at 6.1% and Nokia at 5.3%. 
 
Taneja had earlier left Bharti Airtel where he worked as the operations director for South India and Sri Lanka. He is a graduate from IIT Roorkee and did his MBA from IIM Calcutta.

Mobile Head Vineet Taneja Has Resigned,
Sources Say

<keyword id="135365" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Samsung-Electronics">Samsung Electronics</keyword>, the multinational electronics company based in Suwon, South Korea, has appointmented <keyword id="2199591" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Srini-Sundararajan">Srini Sundararajan</keyword> as the head of network business for India. 
 
Sundararajan will manage the operations and would further develop business opportunities of Samsung's mobile network business in the whole of Southwest Asia. 
 
"We are very glad to announce Srini's appointment and wish him success in his new role. Srini is well experienced and we are expecting his contribution to strengthen Samsung's mobile network business," Youngky Kim, President &amp; Head of Network at Samsung Electronics told ET. 
 
"With Srini, Samsung will continue to expand its business in Southwest Asia, one of the fastest growing markets in the industry." 
 
Sundararajan is a veteran of the industry, known for his immense knowledge of the mobile network sector. He has almost 30 years of experience in various jobs related to the field, like R&amp;D and product management. 
 
Prior to this, Sundararajan has led the India and South Asia business of Alcatel-Lucent, and has done significant contribution towards business profitability, market development and organizational management.

Reaffirming its commitment to strengthen the device portfolio on the operating system and its ecosystem in India, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Samsung+Electronics+">Samsung Electronics</a> has come out with its second Tizen-based smartphone Z3 at a price of Rs 8,490. 
 
From next week, the new smartphone will be available across all Samsung's retail channels in the country. It will also be available online, exclusively on <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a>. 
 
The next generation <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Tizen+smartphone%2C+Samsung+Z3+">Tizen smartphone, Samsung Z3</a> is a make in India device, which will come packed with a host of services and features. 
 The launch of Samsung Z3 re-emphasizes India's significance as a key centre for innovation and development on the Tizen operating system, with India being the first country to launch the Z3, said Asim Warsi, vice president, marketing, <keyword id="3099161" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="IT-mobile">IT &amp; mobile</keyword> at Samsung India. 
 
He added that the company was encouraged by the huge popularity of Samsung Z1, the first Tizen OS powered smartphone that sold over one million units within six months of its launch earlier this year. 
 
The Tizen OS has seen significant growth as an ecosystem, the company said. 
 
Samsung is targeting the first time smartphone users with the Z3. Tizen helps deliver high levels of customization, given that it is an open source platform, the company said. 
 
Samsung Z3 comes preloaded with a new Rewarding platform <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=My+Galaxy">My Galaxy</a>, which would extend personalized exclusive deals and offers to consumers. Samsung's exclusive partnership with Mix Radio. 
 
According to the company, the incorporation of new features such as <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Ultra+Data+Saving+mode">Ultra Data Saving mode</a>, which offers up to 40% mobile data savings, coupled with Ultra Power Saving mode makes Z3 efficient.

Riding on the success of its Galaxy M series, Samsung is all set to launch a mid-premium <keyword id="8951215" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="galaxy-m51">Galaxy M51</keyword> with an industry-first 7000mAh battery priced between Rs 25,000-Rs 30,000 in the second week of September. The 'make in India' Galaxy M51 is tipped to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G Octa-Core processor that will make it the most powerful 'M' series device in India, sources told IANS on Monday. Over the last two years, the Galaxy M series has been known for large batteries but Galaxy M51 is set to take that to a new level. Galaxy M series has become immensely popular in India in a short span of time, helping Samsung increase its market share in the highly competitive online segment. With Galaxy M51, Samsung is aiming to take the Galaxy M series in the premium territory. Galaxy M51 is going to hit the market just a month after the launch of Galaxy M31s which has become the bestseller on Amazon.in The Galaxy M21 was listed among the top five shipped models in the country and most of Samsung's online-exclusive Galaxy M series was opened to offline channels in Q2. Samsung launched Galaxy M31s with 64MP Intelli-Cam and Single Take features in India late last month, starting from Rs 19,499 for the 6GB+128GB variant. The 8GB+128GB memory device costs Rs 21,499. South Korean major Samsung dethroned Xiaomi to lead the overall mobile phone market in India in the second quarter of this year, according to the IDC. Samsung led the overall mobile phone market with a market share of 24 per cent, followed by Xiaomi and Vivo.
