In the latest 'Bigg Boss 17' promo, Salman also introduced Orry as a wildcard contestant. In the video, Salman joked about how many suitcases Orry was taking inside the Bigg Boss house. He asked Orry in Hindi, "You are a wildcard contestant, what will you do with much stuff?" Orry also confirmed the development himself, sharing pictures from the Bigg Boss 17 set. Taking to Instagram, Orry dropped two pictures with Salman as they posed together on the Bigg Boss 17 stage. The first selfie had Orry having a funny expression as he posed with Salman. The second selfie had Orry and Salman smiling as they posed together. The caption read: "Just leaving this here (red siren and SOS emojis)." His B-Town best friends took to the comment section over the news. "Is the world ready," wrote actor Janhvi Kapoor. Her rumoured boyfriend Shikhar Pahariya commented:, "Aap Orry ke peeche...Orry aapke peeche (You are behind Orry and Orry is behind you)... too much fun."

From the moment Bollywood actor <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword> was announced as the goodwill ambassador of India's contingent for the <keyword id="514564" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="2016-Rio-Olympics">2016 Rio Olympics</keyword>, Twitter was divided into two factions: Salman vs sports. 
 The <keyword id="59608" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Olympic-Association">Indian Olympic Association</keyword> (IOA), which invited brick-bats over its decision to appoint Salman, clarified that Salman was the biggest Bollywood star in the country and the key objective of bringing him on board was to draw maximum attention from the masses and popularizing Olympic sports in the country. 
 
However, sports enthusiasts voiced out their dissent over ignoring and not appointing legendary sportspersons as ambassadors and mocked Salman and IOA on Twitter. 
 The news did not go well even with the sporting personalities such as wrestler <keyword id="157783" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Yogeshwar-Dutt">Yogeshwar Dutt</keyword> and Milkha Singh. 
 
Dutt, who has qualified to represent India at the Olympics that will start in August, took to Twitter to voice his opinion, which was supported by sports lovers and denounced by Salman fans.

This hilarious 'Prem Ratan Dhan Payo' parody is better than the original movie itself!

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s final lady love <keyword id="650554" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hazel-Keech">Hazel Keech</keyword> - who he got hitched with in a private ceremony in Bali on Wednesday evening on the occasion of Diwali – may not be as famous as the Bollywood actresses he has been linked with like Kim Sharma and Deepika Padukone, but she is still a well-known face in the Bollywood circle. 
 Born in Essex to a British father and Mauritian mother, 28-year-old Hazel shot into the limelight when Bollywood actor <keyword id="6354583" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Khan">Salman Khan</keyword>, famous for launching young actresses in the film industry via his films, offered Hazel a role in his movie Bodyguard. 
 
Before that, she debuted with an item number in a Tamil film Billa, however, it failed to get her any attractive film projects. She also appeared in a music video “Kahin pe Nigahein, Kahin pe nishana” which was comparatively famous among all her other works. 
 It was Salman who gave her the first break in Bollywood in a supporting role alongside <keyword id="2165" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kareena-Kapoor">Kareena Kapoor</keyword> in Bodyguard. Then, for some reason, Hazel disappeared from the scene only to make a comeback in a very hot item number - Aa ante amlapuram in Kabir Kaushik's Maximum with Naseeruddin Shah and Sonu Sood. She also appeared on 'Bigg Boss 7', but failed to get noticed as she was voted out in the first week itself. 
 
After her eviction from the highest TRP reality show, she has now made a comeback as Yuvi’s fiancée. Sources said the duo have known each other for more than three years now, but they started dating only three months back. Things started materializing only after Yuvi’s mother Shabnam met Hazel’s parents in England last month and everyone approved of their relationship. 
 
The duo then went straight to seek the blessings from Yuvi’s Guruji Baba Ram Singh Ghanduan wale near Daphera village in Fategarh Sahib. If reports are to be believed they are likely to tie the knot at the Hansaliwale Gurdwara in Fatehgarh Sahib early next year.

Indian Talk Shows That Hooked The Audience

What does it take for a brand to make it right through the consumers’ heart? Echoing the needs of the consumers that can be served by the product, putting the message across in a creative way to make its own identity and sometimes, taking a slice out of the daily dramatic soaps. Indians love drama but they are also happy with dal chawal. Indians are always on the verge of mixing trend and tradition in its own way which makes marketers emphasise on the emotional quotient of the people.
	 Last year we saw the father figure from Barjatya movies and a common face in television serials, <keyword id="11647" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Alok-Nath">Alok Nath</keyword> aka ‘<keyword id="314387" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Babuji">Babuji</keyword>’ rising in the ‘most trending’ charts. First on Twitter and later jokes and memes flooded the Facebook. What caught the attention of the people was the fun take on the ubiquitous nature of the characters portrayed by actor Alok Nath in many movies and daily soaps. Now, interestingly, we find Alok Nath featuring in television commercials of some big <keyword id="31174" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="brands">brands</keyword> (for example Snapdeal’s Diwali ad and more recently <keyword id="46283" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Nissan">Nissan</keyword> GO+ ad). Wondering what could have driven the brands to play around with a popular trend for TVCs, we face an array of questions. 
	
		The Father-figure Phenomenon 
	 
	
		Apparently ‘Babuji’ is a normal character popularly found in almost every Indian family and there is nothing new about it. The jokes on him are fine, even Alok Nath himself is sporty enough to accept them. But this is a trend that is set to go out of trend after a while. There is no futuristic approach to these TVCs or that have they come up with some real great creatives that takes the entire ‘Babuji’ hoolah to the next level.
	 
	
		Then what is the purpose of these TVCs? Should we say that the brands in order to cope up with the social media highs and lows are ready to invest good amount of money on a temporary thing that might wither away in a while? Or should we say the brands are taking trends more seriously rather than originality and creative output? If we take a look at some of the other trends that the brands have followed recently like, Kapil Sharma from Indian Comedy Circus, the big selfie trend, is it sending across a message that the advertisers are waiting for something to happen, rather than making something happen? We dig in deeper to try and find out whether this approach of advertising a trend was a hit or miss.
	 
	
		The Snapdeal Diwali ad had set a record featuring 28 popular faces from television in 50 commercials. No matter, how path-breaking approach it was, there is no denying that it was more of a gimmick than actually establishing a unique tone of the brand. This is because Snapdeal has always been starting from its inception in the limelight for attractive offers to lure the audience.
	 
	
		Unlike Flipkart or Amazon who have been consistent in creating an identification of the brand, Snapdeal has been creating aggressive campaigns of Sale ads and not any creative route to set the brand tonality. Now, among all those stars Alok Nath was a face who we all identified with, but suddenly in trend taking cues from his quintessential dialogues. The question is how much this move is going to affect a consumer?
	 
	
		The twitter trend where ‘Babuji’ found popularity is still restricted to a certain section of the consumers. Trends on Facebook, twitter are mostly limited to the social zone only with sharing, liking or commenting and then after few months moving on to something new. Is it possible for a customer who is not at all influenced by the social trends to be convinced enough to buy a product watching that commercial only? The huge discounts will interest him/her lot more than Alok Nath who is just a moment on social media.
	 
	
		Coming to Datsun Nissan Go+ TVC, the MPV car is all set to hit the right notes with variant features, quality and at a most desirable price. Apart from some loopholes like not having airbags and ABS the car is banking upon its feature of more space, an essential thing that most Indian families love to afford.
	 
	
		So, with the target audience being middle class and upper middle class, why has this brand brought in faces like Ayushman Khurana and Alok Nath is a debatable issue. The dialogue between the two actors emphasize on the USP factor of the car that is the extra space. Here we get a middle-class approach when Alok Nath is saying, we can adjust and then the catching up with the trend comes in where Ayushman reassures things are different in new Nissan Go+.
	 
	
		The ad gets aired while the trend of Alok Nath has almost died, and Ayushman (definitely a known face) is not significantly in news. Period. So, while the creative execution remains nothing impactful does it connect the brand properly? The message is sent across, but there is no way the brand can be recalled.
	 As far as the car television commercials in India are concerned, it is a very obvious thing to talk about a family with grandparents with their grandchildren, but the executions previously have been lot better. Don’t we all still remember Innova car ads? The Innova ads were more successful mostly because actor <keyword id="6355923" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aamir-Khan">Aamir Khan</keyword> had introduced the car in so many ways throughout the campaign. 
	
		Capitalizing on a Social Trend?
	 
	
		When Nissan was on the way of introducing a brand new car in the market would not it have been more feasible if they had started with a fresh campaign and not by taking help of an ongoing trend that hardly bothers people anymore?
	 
	
		In both the cases, did we find that Alok Nath is trending back again on Twitter as a result of his appearance in the TVCs? Did the ‘babuji’ factor contribute to the brand in a different way or were the brands accommodating their messages to fix in the man of the moment on social media?
	
		Manish Porwal, MD, Alchemist Marketing &amp; Talent Solutions, gives us an interesting insight on why some brands are going by the trend.
	 
	
		“Advertising is all about trends or creating trends. What is important for the country at that moment is crucial for advertising. These ads will run few times and then it will move on. This is not a strategic move but going with the trend”, explains Porwal.
	 
	
		He continues, “These characters are already established. Advertising are lot more expensive now, if they want to create such a character it might take a few years. So, at a lesser cost these characters can be used to send across a message. Thirdly and quite importantly, these characters will not overpower the brand. Today if they want to use the top-notch celebrities, they often become the news themselves instead of the brand.”
	 
	
		On the other hand, brand endorsing expert Harish Bijoor is of the opinion, “Brands love to capitalize on the minds of the consumers. Not just today but using the ongoing trend has been a practice since the popular Hindi movie villains like Pran or Amrish Puri as Mogambo. The advertisers always eye the comic sphere of the mind. And as far as the longevity of the ad is concerned, it depends on how the concepts are implemented. It is surely not a strategic move, but a brand tactic.”
	 Advertisements are indeed all about convincing people to spend some money on what makes them happy. In an attempt to reemphasize on the emotional quotient of consumers, advertisers often take help of moments like festivals, special occasions, <keyword id="143" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Bollywood">Bollywood</keyword> and Cricket that engage people. But while in doing so if such a large amount of money is being spent, some creative aspects or something that has long-term significance can be aimed at. Flipkart had set an example of saying the same thing, but in such a quirky manner in the campaigns featuring kids. Fascination for cars to Indians means a lot more than apparent. Why not treat them with more care? And as far as using the ongoing trends are concerned, ‘Babuji’ is a character who we all knew but for a while enjoyed the funny side of it. If there is any necessity of connecting him with any brand, why not re-establish the character targeting another crucial sphere of audience i.e. the senior citizens and hold onto him for a little longer? Trends are something that will come and go, but advertisements are meant to be impactful, resonating and something that remains with us for a long time.

The term Generation Alpha is typically used to refer to children born between 2010 and 2024, who are often labeled "iPad kids" in reference to their growing up with the tablets which were launched in 2010, coinciding with the beginning of their generation. On TikTok, some users have also pointed out another common identifier for members of Gen Alpha: they're often incredibly well-versed at maneuvering on a hoverboard. But some Gen Alpha kids weren't old enough when they were introduced to hoverboards to now treat them as part of a phase that they've become too cool for. "If you can do that, then you can use the toilet," wrote one commenter. Bigg Boss Season 8: Take A Sneak Peak At 15 Probable Contestants

America's public education system is a mess.
The U.S. is by far the richest country in the world, but our <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/27/best-education-in-the-wor_n_2199795.html">education system ranks a pathetic 17th among developed countries</a>. American students, meanwhile, are ranked only 25th in proficiency in math, 17th in science, and 14th in reading.
There are many reasons for this sad state of affairs,* but an important one is this:
We have not yet figured out how to use our world-leading technology and innovation to increase education productivity and improve the learning experience.
Thankfully, a new generation of education entrepreneurs has begun to fix that.
Khan Academy, for example, grew out of founder Salman Khan's penchant for recording lessons on video in his closet and then posting them for free on YouTube. The lessons were wildly popular, and now Khan Academy offers a wide variety of videos that invite people to "learn almost anything for free." Codecademy offers online courses focused on a specific vocational skill--software development. Udacity offers cheap online college courses. Udemy connects freelance "instructors" with students across a wide range of disciplines. And Coursera and edX are partnering with colleges and universities to offer courses for free to millions of students around the world.
The next frontier in technology-assisted education is high school.
And, thankfully, here, too, help is on the way.
<h2>Drink Wine, Found Company</h2>
A few years ago, a Silicon Valley-based entrepreneur and investor named David Siminoff got bored with running a small hedge fund. In the evenings, as a side project, after downing a couple of glasses of wine, he began writing essays about some of the books he had read and loved in high school. The books were the same books that everyone reads in high school--<a href="http://www.shmoop.com/great-gatsby/">The Great Gatsby</a>, All Quiet On The Western Front, Ulysses--books that are often made impenetrable or ruined by the pressures of the classroom.
Early in his career, before going to Stanford business school, running several companies, and becoming one of the most plugged-in and successful investors in Silicon Valley, Siminoff had gotten a Master Of Fine Arts at U.S.C. Film School. Writing about books, he found, was a way of putting his long-dormant literary passion to good use.
Siminoff wrote a few dozen literary "guides" and posted them online.
And then, he says, with characteristic breeziness, "a million people just showed up."
By then, with the help of his wife Ellen, Siminoff had turned his evening project into a small non-profit organization, which the Siminoffs' daughter Sophie named "<keyword id="1761032" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Shmoop">Shmoop</keyword>."
Shmoop, Siminoff explains, is a Yiddish word that means "to move something along a little bit." Siminoff's grandmother would tell him to "shut up and shmoop me my chocolates." "Shmoop" was also Siminoff's nickname for his daughter as she shmooped along the floor in her diapers as a baby.
The Siminoffs' non-profit Shmoop was going to be dedicated to moving high school English education along a little bit--the "Khan Academy of literature." As soon as "a million people showed up," however, Ellen Siminoff got a better idea.
They would turn Shmoop into a business.
A founding executive at Yahoo, Ellen Siminoff had run several key Yahoo businesses back in the dotcom boom and then gone on to be the CEO of search-engine marketing firm Efficient Frontier, which is now a division of Adobe. Ellen had had plenty of experience in figuring out how to "monetize" online eyeballs.

And they realized they would have a tough time attracting and paying the talent they needed to go after this opportunity if they remained a non-profit.
So while her husband drank wine and wrote about books, Ellen set about generating some revenue.
Figuring that smartphone-carrying high-school students might pay 99 cents for an app that made reading The Great Gatsby fun, she turned her husband's guides into apps. When the apps sold themselves, she hired a tech team to crank out dozens more, and she expanded Shmoop's web site. Then she "cloned" her husband, hiring and managing hundreds of over-educated, under-paid PhDs to write additional literary guides, as well as study guides for other courses and preparation materials for Advanced Placement tests and the ACT college admissions exams.
Eventually, a school system called and asked about buying hundreds of licenses for its students.
Then more school systems called.
Shmoop's guides and test-prep materials, which were priced at about $2-$23 apiece, were vastly cheaper than the traditional alternatives. They didn't displace teachers or force them to do their jobs differently. They just provided the basic background material, which allowed teachers to focus on teaching.
Importantly, the accessible style of David Siminoff's wine-inspired teaching guides also resonated with high-school students--unlike the boring formal-speak found in traditional study aids.
"It's hard for corporations to be intentionally funny and engaging," Siminoff explains, when asked why students like Shmoop. "We love the student. We speak student."

Hiring and paying employees required money, but the Siminoffs were enjoying running Shmoop as a family business, so they funded the company themselves (an option they had after two decades of success in a variety of investments and ventures.) Over the next several years, they invested several million dollars in the company.
Four years later, <a href="http://www.shmoop.com/">Shmoop has become a high school education juggernaut</a>.
The company now has:

<li>10+ million readers</li>
<li>~1 million paid customers</li>
<li>~50 employees and 450 contributors</li>
<li>Single-digit millions of dollars of revenue, growing rapidly</li>
<li>Courses and study guides for literature, history, science, math, writing, careers, Advanced Placement tests, ACT tests, and many other subjects</li>
<li>Positive cash flow</li>
</ul>
There are about 13 million high-school students in the United States and a lot more internationally. So there's still plenty of room for growth in Shmoop's existing business. And a new crop of ~4 million high-school students (potential customers) enroll in school each fall, and the books, math, science, history, and other topics that they study don't change much. So Shmoop's growing library of guides and lessons--all of which it owns outright--should remain fresh and relevant for decades.
<h2>Government Regulation Spawns A Huge New Opportunity</h2>
And now, thanks to the combination of a growing acceptance of web-based learning tools as well as a new government initiative to standardize high-school course curricula, a new opportunity for Shmoop has emerged.
In an effort to make sure all American students have the chance to learn the same basic skills and information, the United States has established a new "Common Core Curriculum" initiative that will apply to most schools in the country.
This "core curriculum" sets standards for grade levels and course material, and it is highly standardized. Many states have already signed up and said their schools will comply with the initiative.
This hanging curricula--and offering hundreds of different and new courses--creates an administrative challenge for many schools.
And that's where Shmoop comes in.
The company is now developing 187 courses that conform with the Common Core Curriculum standards in each subject. And it is using the "MOOC" concept--Massive Online Open Courses--to allow schools to subscribe to and "teach" these courses cheaply and efficiently. (Shmoop's MOOC, not surprisingly, is called "SHMOOC." It's a nice complement to the company's SHMOOPSTERPIECE Theatre video productions.)
By partnering with Shmoop, high schools can comply with the new standards and be able to offer more courses than they would if they had to plan and teach the courses themselves. Again, the Shmoop courses won't displace each school's teachers: They will simply allow the teachers to focus on the most interesting material in class, and, in the case of niche courses, serve more as consultants and education counselors.
Siminoff offers the example of a high school that wanted to offer a course in, say, Victorian Literature. There might be limited interest in this course, and having a traditional teacher prepare and teach it would be expensive. But using Shmoop's course, a single teacher could supervise the few students taking the course--without having to dedicate a huge amount of time to the background preparation, teaching, and grading.)
"We can take any public school with six to seven English courses and give them eighty," Siminoff says. "We can provide our entire curriculum to every school at a fraction of the cost. If only 3 students want to take a course on Great Women Writers Of The 18th Century, we can allow the school to offer that. The goal is to offer a world-class education at the high school level, for students who are willing to make an extra effort."
Siminoff also emphasizes another key reason for Shmoop's success: The company partners with schools and teachers--it doesn't displace them.
"We apply technology to help schools do it better. They can offer more courses. Kids come to class having done the work. Teachers can focus on engaging discussion. Teachers can ask, 'what if?,' instead of just hounding the kids to do their homework. We handle the background. They do the interesting stuff. When a student has used our Gatsby guide, the teacher doesn't have to explain the book. The teacher can ask, 'why was Gatsby great?'"
As for tests--making sure kids do the homework and write their papers and understand the material--Shmoop's courses handle that, too. Students take multiple-choice quizzes online. If they don't achieve a certain score, they take them again.
Shmoop is launching its first Common Core Curriculum course, American History, in beta this month. Then it plans to roll out 2 to 10 courses a month starting in August until it has built all 187 that it has currently planned. After that, Siminoff says, the company will have planned another hundred or so.
<h2>So Help Is On The Way...</h2>
As many education entrepreneurs point out, our schools have been teaching kids the same way for centuries. Because the process is so labor-intensive, educators have resisted change, and the technology industry has never figured out how to crack the code, the education business has seen little of the technology-driven productivity improvements that have transformed other industries.
With luck, thanks to the new breed of digital education startups like Shmoop, that is finally about to change.
Disclosure: I have known David and Ellen Siminoff personally for two decades. I have followed Shmoop's progress over the past four years, from evening project to thriving business, and I think it's very cool. Because I think Shmoop is very cool, I was eager to learn more about it and write this story. If I had not thought Shmoop was very cool, however, I would not have written this story, for two reasons: First, because I don't like bashing startups (it's hard enough to succeed without some blowhard critic telling everyone why he thinks you're going to fail), and, second, because the Siminoffs are good friends of mine, and I would not have wanted them to be mad at me.
