At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 82.30 and touched an intra-day high of 82.08 and a low of 82.33 against the greenback. It finally settled at 82.28, registering a rise of 10 paise over its previous close of 82.38. Forex traders said investors awaited the outcome of a slew of central bank meetings next week for additional clues on the pace of rate hikes. "Focus will now be shifting to the FOMC policy statement. The central bank could raise rates by 50 bps and maintain a less hawkish stance," said Gaurang Somaiya, Forex &amp; Bullion Analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial Services. "We expect the USD-INR (Spot) to trade sideways and quote in the range of 82.20 and 82.80," Somaiya added. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, declined 0.06 per cent to 104.71. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures rose 1.22 per cent to USD 77.08 per barrel. Rupee gains 10 paise to close at 82.28 against US dollar

However, lower crude prices in the international market and fresh foreign fund inflows restricted the rupee's fall, forex dealers said. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened weak at 81.81 against the dollar, then gained some ground to quote 81.77, registering a decline of 6 paise over its previous close. In the previous session on Friday, the rupee weakened by just one paisa to end at 81.71 against the dollar. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.41 per cent to 106.39. Rupee slips 6 paise to 81.77 against US dollar

Forex traders said investors will focus on the US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell's speech and the release of key domestic macro economic data for further cues. "Market is looking forward to Fed Chair Powell's speech today. He is likely to signal a slowdown in the pace of rate hikes but push back against expectations of a pivot," IFA Global Research Academy said in a note. Domestic Q2 FY'23 GDP print, April-October fiscal deficit and October core sector data are scheduled to be released later in the day. Rupee plunges 61 paise to dip below 83/USD mark for first time

A stellar rally in domestic equities fuelled by foreign fund inflows also boosted the rupee sentiment. However, dollar buying by state-run banks and a rise in oil prices capped the rupee gains, forex traders said. At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened strong at 83.30 against the last close of 83.40, the lowest closing level against the US dollar. The rupee moved in a tight range of 83.35 and 83.27 in the day trade. It finally closed at 83.30, up by 10 paise over the previous close. The US dollar index, which measures the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, eased by 0.32 per cent to 102.54. The US Federal Reserve kept its key interest rate unchanged on Wednesday for a third time in a row. The officials also signalled that they expect to make three quarter-point cuts to their benchmark rate next year. "The crash in the US 10-year yield to 4 per cent will trigger large capital flows to India. The main beneficiaries will be the large caps, particularly the fairly valued large caps in banking. IT too is likely to attract buying," VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Financial Services said. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, rose 2.11 per cent to USD 75.83 per barrel. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 929.60 points to settle at an all-time high of 70,514.20. The 50-issue Nifty climbed 256.35 points to settle at a record of 21,182.70. On Thursday, the rupee appreciated by 16 paise to settle at 82.56 against the US dollar, making it the third straight day of gain. Gaurang Somaiya, forex and bullion analyst, Motilal Oswal Financial Services said, "Rupee fell after opening stronger against the US dollar ahead of the Jackson Hole Symposium that begins today. Expectation is that the Fed Chairman could maintain a hawkish tone and that could extend gains for the greenback." Apart from US Federal Reserve Chairman <keyword id="1727754" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jerome-powell" source="Orion">Jerome Powell</keyword>'s statement at the Jackson Hole Symposium, market participants will keep an eye on the US consumer sentiment index to be released on Friday. "Better-than-expected economic data is likely to support the dollar. We expect the USDINR (Spot) to trade sideways and quote in the range of 82.30 and 82.80," Somaiya said. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.22 per cent to 104.21. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures climbed 0.19 per cent to USD 83.52 per barrel. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 248.65 points or 0.38 per cent lower at 65,003.69. The broader NSE Nifty declined 71.70 points or 0.37 per cent to 19,315.00. "Persistent demand for the dollar from local importers has capped the rupee's potential gains, yet its outlook remains optimistic, buoyed by recent positive economic indicators," CR Forex Advisors MD-Amit Pabari said. Pabari further said the rupee's outlook is supported by strong foreign inflows, a positive economic forecast, and India's impressive macroeconomic growth, currently the fastest among large economies. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) appears determined to prevent the rupee from depreciating below 83.70, despite pressure from oil companies due to elevated oil prices, he added. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading at 104.93, lower by 0.11 per cent. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, advanced 0.76 per cent to <keyword id="19944038" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="USD" source="keywords">USD</keyword> 85.73 per barrel. On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 105.32 points, or 0.13 per cent, to 80,030.09 points. Rupee falls 24 paise to 82.09/$ amid rising crude, foreign fund outflows

The report further noted that risk sentiment has been dampened on fears that China reopening could result in a rise in cases around the world. The US will require travellers from China to furnish a negative COVID report.

At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 83.45 and gained further to 83.44 against the greenback, registering a rise of 5 paise from its previous close. On Friday, the rupee settled at 83.49 against the US dollar. According to CR Forex Advisors MD Amit Pabari the Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="19899808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="keywords">RBI</keyword>) seems determined to prevent the rupee from depreciating below 83.70. Even with pressure from oil companies due to elevated oil prices. "Overall, positive economic indicators such as a good growth rate, stable inflation, a reduced fiscal deficit, record-high RBI forex reserves, and a pipeline of inflows are all supportive factors that should ideally bolster the rupee," Pabari said, adding that given these factors, the rupee is expected to trade within a broad range of 83.20 to 83.70 levels. Forex traders said, massive selling of equities by foreign investors in the past few sessions and subdued market sentiment also put pressure on the Indian currency. Crude oil breached the level of USD 90 per barrel after oil producing countries agreed to extend supply cut till December this year, while dollar strengthened on safe-haven demand. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 83.15 against the dollar, 2 paise lower from its previous close. The unit traded in a narrow range of 83.14 to 83.16 against the greenback. On Wednesday, the rupee declined by 9 paise to close at 83.13 against the dollar. Earlier, the rupee had touched the level of 83.13 on August 21 this year. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell marginally by 0.01 per cent to 104.85. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, was trading 0.21 per cent lower at USD 90.41 per barrel. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share <keyword id="53232" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="bse-sensex" source="Orion">BSE Sensex</keyword> was trading 156.01 points or 0.24 per cent lower at 65,724.51. The broader <keyword id="372424" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nse-nifty" source="Orion">NSE Nifty</keyword> declined 47.10 points or 0.24 per cent to 19,563.95. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Wednesday as they offloaded shares worth Rs 3,245.86 crore, according to exchange data.

Rupee hits a new low of 83.15/USD in morning trade

The Indian <keyword id="6355302" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rupee">rupee</keyword> appreciated by 28 paise to 70.74 against the US dollar in early trade on Monday as gains in domestic equity market and positive developments on the US-China trade talks front strengthened investor sentiments. At the interbank foreign exchange the rupee opened at 70.83, then gained further ground and touched a high of 70.74, registering a rise of 28 paise over its previous close. On Friday, rupee had settled for the day at 71.02 against the US dollar. The domestic unit, however, could not hold on to the gains and was trading at 70.81 against the dollar at 0959 hrs. President <keyword id="6354484" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Donald-Trump">Donald Trump</keyword> on Friday had said that the United States has reached a "very substantial" Phase 1 trade deal with <keyword id="1334" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="China">China</keyword>. "We've come to a very substantial Phase 1 deal," Trump told reporters at the White House following his meeting with the visiting Chinese Vice Premier Liu He. However, the announcement came with a rider that the agreement was still to be put on to the paper, which will take somewhere between three to five weeks. Besides, higher opening in domestic equities supported the local unit. Domestic bourses opened on a positive note on Monday with benchmark indices Sensex trading 120.08 points higher at 38,247.16 and Nifty up 47.70 points at 11,352.75. Market participants, said foreign fund inflows and easing crude prices supported the local currency. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net buyers in the capital market, putting in Rs 749.74 crore on Friday, according to provisional exchange data. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, fell 0.46 per cent to trade at USD 60.23 per barrel. However, strengthening of the American currency vis-a-vis other currencies overseas weighed on the rupee. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose by 0.09 per cent to 98.38. The 10-year government bond yield was at 6.49 per cent in morning trade.

Rupee rises 28 paise to 70.74 against USD in early trade

The <keyword id="6355302" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rupee" source="Orion">rupee</keyword> appreciated 26 paise to 81.67 against the US <keyword id="35208" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dollar" source="Orion">dollar</keyword> in early trade on Thursday as the American currency retreated from its elevated levels. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 81.72 against the dollar, then gained ground to touch 81.67, registering a rise of 26 paise over its previous close. The rupee has strengthened in offshore trading on broad-based dollar weakness. It is likely to trade in a range of 81.55-81.85 with sideways price action, IFA Global Research Academy said in a research note. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.41 per cent to 105.63, post the weak US data and dovish Fed minutes. "Minutes of the latest Fed meeting indicated that most Fed members were in support of slowing the pace of rate hikes but 'various' Fed members saw rates peaking at higher levels," IFA Global Research Academy said. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, declined 0.21 per cent to <keyword id="54123" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="usd" source="Orion">USD</keyword> 85.23 per barrel. In the domestic equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex was trading 180.14 points or 0.29 per cent higher at 61,690.72. Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 66.50 points or 0.36 per cent to 18,333.75. Rupee gains 26 paise to 81.67 against US dollar

<keyword id="18712" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gold" source="Orion">Gold</keyword> in the national capital on Thursday gained Rs 487 to Rs 52,566 per 10 grams amid a rise in international precious metal prices along with <keyword id="688216" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rupee-depreciation" source="Orion">rupee depreciation</keyword>, according to <keyword id="103838" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="hdfc-securities" source="Orion">HDFC Securities</keyword>. The yellow metal had closed at Rs 52,079 per 10 grams in the previous trade. <keyword id="35264" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Silver" source="Orion">Silver</keyword> also rose by Rs 426 to Rs 58,806 per kg from Rs 58,380 per kg in the previous trade. The rupee depreciated 36 paise to 79.51 against the US dollar in opening trade on Thursday, as disappointing macroeconomic data and US-China tensions weighed on investor sentiment. In the international market, gold was trading higher at USD 1,774 per ounce while silver was flat at USD 20.12 per ounce.
