The Intel Core Ultra is a new Meteor Lake chipset from the company. The laptop is available with up to 32GB LPDDR5X 7467 MHz RAM and up to 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD. The graphic duties are handled by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics. I tested the laptop with several games, including games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both the games performed well and the laptop was able to handle them without any issues. The powerful hardware means that you will be able to run any game with the best graphics without even having to look at the system requirements for a long time. I was able to play games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Alan Wake 2 at the highest graphic settings without any issues. The laptop’s cooling technology can keep the device cool during extended gaming sessions so you don’t have to worry about performance throttling. The laptop is equipped with a 90Whr battery and offers a decent battery life considering it is a gaming laptop. It offers around six hours of battery life but this will significantly come down if you game on it. The Alienware x16 R2 offers a six-speaker setup with spatial audio. At the same time, the laptop is not very portable due to its large size and weight. If you want a laptop that you can easily carry around, this may not be the best option for you. While a lot of premium gaming laptops these days are trying to blend in with minimalistic designs, the Legion 9i isn’t imitating this trend. The laptop is available with 32GB LPDDR5 6400 MHz RAM and 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD. The graphic duties are handled by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics. I tested the laptop with several games, including games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 and Starfield. Both the games performed well and the laptop was able to handle them without any issues. The laptop was able to handle these games without any issues while playing at maximum settings. Considering the hardware, you will be able to handle everything that you throw at it. The laptop’s cooling technology can keep the device cool during extended gaming sessions so you don’t have to worry about performance throttling. The laptop is equipped with a 99.9 Wh battery and offers a decent battery life. It offers around five hours of battery life but this will significantly come down if you game on it. The laptop offers stereo speakers with audio optimized by HARMAN. While it is always a good idea to use headphones while gaming, the audio from the speakers is also excellent. <h2>Verdict</h2>The Lenovo Legion 9i ticks a lot of the right boxes, including powerful hardware, excellent display, and premium design. During my usage, I found the keyboard to be slightly cluttered and it will take some time to get used to the layout. The colours look great as it comes with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. The Mini LED panel ensures excellent visuals with amazing contrast with 2,304 dimming zones. The 1,100 nits brightness delivers good visibility, even under direct sunlight. I played games like Red Dead Redemption 2, Starfield and Forza Horizon 5 on the laptop, with the device offering amazing visuals in each game. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> If you are looking for a powerful gaming laptop, the ROG Strix Scar 16 will not disappoint. It is equipped with the Intel Core i9 14900HX high-performance processor with 24 cores and 32 threads. This is coupled with NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics. The laptop comes with 32GB DDR5 5600MHz RAM, which can be extended up to 64GB. For storage, it offers a 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD, which can be upgraded to 4TB. I tested the laptop with several games, including Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both the games performed well and the laptops were able to handle them without any issues. The powerful hardware means that you will be able to run any game at the best graphics without even having to look at the system requirements. I played Starfield and Forza Horizon 5 at maximum graphics and the laptop was able to handle them with ease. Even during extended gaming sessions, the laptop’s cooling apparatus kicked in, keeping the temperatures down. The laptop is equipped with a 90Whr battery, the battery life is not one of the strongest points of the ROG Strix Scar 16. While gaming, I was able to get around 2 and a half hours of battery life out of the device. Then again, you will mostly be gaming while you are connected, so battery life is not a very big issue. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 is a feature-packed laptop that ticks all the right boxes, including a vibrant display, powerful performance and decent battery life. If you don’t have a problem with the weight and are looking for a premium gaming laptop, the ROG Strix Scar 16 is a great option. An added benefit with the ROG Strix Scar 16 is its translucent plastic body and the RGB lighting offered, which will please a lot of gamers. The primary reason for this is the large display and the powerful hardware offered with the device. <div type="image" title="Back" msid="102571082" hostid="261" sizebytes="39800" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The rear lid of the HP OMEN 17&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The OMEN 17 features a traditional all-black OMEN design with the company’s shiny logo in the middle. The trackpad however seemed a bit unresponsive and you would be better off using a mouse. <div type="image" title="Ports" msid="102571334" hostid="261" sizebytes="28736" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The major ports have been placed on the left side&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> In terms of ports, the company has offered plenty of ports with the laptop. On the left side, you get the RJ-45 port, a USB Type-A port, a Mini DisplayPort, HDMI 2.1 port, a USB Type-C port and the audio jack. You also get the SD card slot. On the right side, you get two USB Type-A ports. The company has equipped the device with ample vents to dissipate the heat. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Display" comment="subhead" text="Display">Display</cmsannotation> <div type="image" title="Display" msid="102571482" hostid="261" sizebytes="39534" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The large 17.3-inch display on the HP OMEN 17&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The display is one of the highlights of the OMEN 17. It comes with a large 17.3-inch Quad HD+ IPS display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, a 240Hz refresh rate, 3 ms response time and 300 nits of brightness, which is good enough for playing indoors. The resolution and the high refresh rate make it a treat to game on the laptop. It offers crisp and smooth visuals, offering an immersive gaming experience. I played games like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V and Forza Horizon 5 on the laptop, with the device offering the best visuals in each game. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> In addition to a large display, the OMEN 17 is also packed with the 13th gen Intel Core i9-13900HX processor coupled with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 graphics. The laptop is available in a single variant with 32GB DDR5 5600 MHz RAM and a 1TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD. I tested the laptop with several games, including Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. The laptop was able to handle these heavy games without any issues at the highest graphics. During extended gaming sessions, the laptop does heat up a little and the fan gets a bit noisy but the heat is manageable. In addition to this, I did not notice any drop in frames. Coming to the battery, the HP OMEN 17 is equipped with an 83Wh battery. As most gaming laptops, battery is not one of the strong points about the device and I recommend you to avoid gaming without plugging in the device. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The HP OMEN 17 ticks a lot of the right boxes, including a vibrant display and powerful hardware which make it a great option for gamers. The kickstand can be opened up to 170-degrees, allowing you to set it as per your preference. I found this quite useful as I could set it differently based on whether I’m gaming or catching up on my favourite show. Another interesting feature at the back is a little window that gives you a glimpse of the hardware and provides RGB accent lighting. The device comes with stylus support, making it a great option for content creators. Coming to gaming, I had a great time gaming on the Flow Z13. The display offers 500 nits of peak brightness, which is more than enough if you’re gaming indoors. The high refresh rate makes it a great option for gamers, especially fans of first-person shooters. It comes with Adaptive sync with G-Sync support that ensures a smooth gaming experience. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Performance" comment="subhead" text="Performance">Performance</cmsannotation> The Asus ROG Flow Z13 is packed with top-end hardware and it is no surprise that the device performs excellently and is able to handle everything that you throw at it. It is equipped with the 13th gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor with 14 cores and 20 threads. This is coupled with up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 8GB GDDR6 graphics. It comes with 16GB DDR5 5200MHz RAM and a 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD. If this is not enough, you can use the XG Mobile, the company’s external graphics unit and unleash the power of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090. In addition to enhancing the gaming experience, the XG Mobile also offers you additional connectivity ports, including USB ports, DisplayPort, HDMI and ethernet. <div type="image" title="XG Mobile" msid="100850941" hostid="261" sizebytes="1054818" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;The XG Mobile&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> It is easy to connect the XG Mobile with Flow Z13 and takes less than a minute to do so. With such a powerful device in my hands, I played Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both the games performed well and the device was able to handle them without any issues. The powerful hardware, coupled with the high-resolution display makes it a treat for gamers. While the device is able to handle the heat in normal gaming, extended gaming sessions do heat it up a bit, especially in the current summer weather. Coming to the battery, this is one area where the device disappoints a bit. It is equipped with a 56Whr battery. With normal browsing and some video streaming, it provides a little under five hours of battery life. If you decide to game on it, the battery life drops to under 2 hours. If you are willing to spend the big bucks and are looking for a gaming and productivity device, the ROG Flow Z13 is worth considering. The trackpad also doubles up as a number pad once you click on the number pad button on it. Starting with gaming, the panel’s 240Hz refresh and 3ms response time make it a treat to game on, especially if you are a fan of first person shooter (FPS) games wherein even a slight delay could end up costing you and your team the game. I had a great time gaming on the laptop and after gaming on several laptops over the years, I can easily say that this is one of the best displays. I can confidently say that you won’t need an external monitor if you own this, unless you want a bigger real estate to game on. The peak brightness of 1100 nits and DCI-P3 colour standard make it a great device for content creators as well. While most users may not have much use of the ScreenPad Plus, it is a good feature to have. I often found myself using it to add notes, or pin information that I was referencing for work. It is equipped with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945Hx processor with 16 cores and 32 threads. This is coupled with up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 16GB GDDR6 graphics. The laptop comes with 32GB DDR5 4800MHz RAM, which can be extended up to 64GB. For storage, it offers a 2TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD, which can be upgraded to 4TB. I tested the laptop with several games, including Red Dead Redemption 2 and Forza Horizon 5. Both the games performed well and the laptops were able to handle them without any issues. The powerful hardware means that you will be able to run any game without even having to look at the system requirements. The games ran smoothly on the device, even at Quad HD resolution and I got high FPS at all times, even going above 350 in games like CS: GO. If you are someone who plays lighter games like Counter Strike: Global Offensive or PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds, the laptop is an overkill to handle such games. One of the issues gaming laptops usually face is they tend to heat up if you are playing heavier games for extended durations. This device however performs well even in this area. While it gets a bit noisy, the laptop is able to keep the temperatures under control. While the laptop is equipped with a 90Whr battery, the battery life is not one of the strongest points of the laptop. While gaming, I was able to get around 3 hours of battery life out of the device. At the end of the day, if you are willing to spend the big bucks, the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 16 is a great option for you. The Australian company, Charge Around Australia (CAA) will power a Tesla electric car with the help of 18 printed plastic solar panels, each 18 meters long. The panels will roll out beside the vehicle to soak up sunlight for a charge. This test run is announced days before Earth day. It will begin in September and scientists are hoping people will think about steps to help avert climate change. The inventor of printed solar panels, Paul Dastoor said, “the team will be testing not only the endurance of the panels but their true potential for other applications.” He also added, “this is actually an ideal testbed to give us information about how we would go about using and powering technology in other remote locations, for example, in space”. This is one big giant step to fight pollution and it will be interesting to see if this technology is going to be used by different carmakers or not. What are printed solar panels? The printed solar panels are lightweight and laminated in PET plastic that cost around $10 (₹764) per square metre. These panels are made on a commercial printer which is originally used for printing wine labels.
