 ‘Sam Bahadur’ Known widely as Sam Bahadur, he was the Chief of Army Staff during 1971 Bangladesh Liberation war. He was the first general of the modern Indian army to be made a field marshal. Manekshaw’s career lasted four decades, and saw five wars. He also successfully masterminded the Indo-Pakistan war of 1971. He noted that there are multiple aspects to saying whether automation is going to replace humans in their jobs. The first of those aspects is whether artificial intelligence (AI) is ready for it. According to Garg, AI is not developed enough to be at that stage, however it has the potential of getting there in the future. Again, some jobs may have to work in alignment with this deeptech technology. “I can put it on autopilot and be feasibly comfortable. So things are improving a lot. Now let's take sales as an example. I'm trying to hire a salesperson, I will start evaluating this person based on their emotional touch. Are they going to be able to close the deal or not, can they negotiate with the buyer or not?” he noted. According to a PwC <a href="https://www.pwc.com/hu/hu/kiadvanyok/assets/pdf/impact_of_automation_on_jobs.pdf">report </a>which estimates that 40% of jobs can be automated in the next 15 years, digital and softer skills are going to be the demand of the new age businesses. In 2017, <a href="https://www.deakinco.com/uploads/Whitepaper/deloitte-au-economics-deakin-soft-skills-business-success-170517.pdf">Deloitte</a> also reported that "soft skill-intensive occupations will account for two-thirds of all jobs by 2030." According to a<a href="https://www.muchskills.com/blog/soft-skills-skills-of-the-future"> blogpost </a>by Sweden-based HR-tech platform MuchSkills, the new age technologies — like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) or robotics — can automate a number of human tasks, they will not be able to replicate emotional, social and cognitive skills imbibed by humans. “Between 1980 and 2012, jobs requiring high levels of social interaction grew by nearly 12 percentage points as a share of the US labour force. Math-intensive but less social jobs – including many STEM occupations – shrank by 3.3 percentage points over the same period,” wrote David J Deming in a paper titled<a href="https://scholar.harvard.edu/files/ddeming/files/deming_socialskills_may2017_final.pdf"> The Growing Importance Of Social Skills In The Labor Market</a>. This is in line with announcements made during the budget session which said that ‘degree-level’ full-fledged online courses will be launched in India to provide quality education to the underprivileged. “It is a start. The COVID crisis has brought in some sort of urgency and awareness to the medium of online being a very effective and highly penetrable one,” said Ronnie Screwvala, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder of upGrad. The cost of enrolling in these online degree programs will vary according to the course. “The programmes that we are launching with Jamia Hamdard will cost nearly ₹50,000 annually. The platform witnessed a 360% jump in users in the COVID lockdown period, compared to the last quarter. upGrad agrees that the completion rate for such courses also witnessed growth. “Today, online is allowing us to reach tier 2, 3, 4 and tier 5 cities. This includes the large rural segment as well. The blended approach that online learning brings allows us to be able to provide access to the best universities across rural India,” Screwvala added. Government’s push for online degrees To kickstart the learning calendar for students, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on May 17, announced that the top 100 educational institutions in India will be automatically allowed to start courses online from May 30, 2020. Under this, the courses will be taught via live interactions and aired on TV channels for students from 1st to 12th grade to access it. It will also introduce at least 12 educational channels to keep the learning continuity for students. As many as 200 textbooks have been added to e-pathshala and 61 crore students have accessed the courses on Diksha platform, as on March 24. Given the delay in the academic year, the government has also tied up with private DTH operators like Tata Sky to air educational content on TV. The students and teachers can also communicate with experts via skype.

Online higher education platform upGrad to hire 1,000 people in India in next three months from more than 100 campuses

Eyeware retailer <keyword id="1518229" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lenskart">Lenskart</keyword> has raised Rs 135 crore in fresh capital in its third round of funding. The company has in its Series C (final rounding of early funding cycle) raised the funds as co-investment from <keyword id="141646" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="TPG-Growth">TPG Growth</keyword> along with Hong Kong-based TR Capital and its existing investor IDF Ventures. 
	 Interestingly, the company has raised a total of Rs 200 crore in three rounds of funding that has happened so far. In February 2013, the company had received an investment of Rs 53 crore from <keyword id="25725" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ronnie-Screwvala">Ronnie Screwvala</keyword>’s Unilazer Ventures along with IDG Ventures India. 
	 
	“In TPG, we found strategic partners and advisors with proven capability to build a large consumer-centric enterprise. The TPG brand is another feather in our cap. With this new investment, we will be hiring the best talent and give them a world-class environment to innovate and solve India’s eyewear problems at a very large scale,” said Peyush Bansal, CEO &amp; Founder of Lenskart. 
	 
	Commenting on the same, Manas Tandon, Director, TPG Growth said, “TPG globally is an active investor in the Internet sector. We are excited about the evolution of Internet in India and are delighted to partner with Lenskart as our first investment in this space. 	 Currently, the company clocked in revenues of nearly Rs 100 crore and has been growing at 15% every month. Lenskart was founded in 2010 by <keyword id="2674246" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Peeyush-Bansal">Peeyush Bansal</keyword> along with Amit Chaudhary and Sumeet Kapahi. The company claims to have grown by over 200% year on year.
