JioBharat V3 and V4 4G feature phones launched at ₹1,099

Shares of <keyword id="20026009" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Asian-Paints" source="keywords">Asian Paints</keyword> Ltd dropped over 4 per cent in morning trade on Thursday after the company reported a 24.64 per cent decline in <keyword id="20129249" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="consolidated-net-profit" source="keywords">consolidated net profit</keyword> in the <keyword id="22009550" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="June-quarter" source="keywords">June quarter</keyword>. The stock went lower by 4.24 per cent to Rs 2,848.15 on the BSE. At the NSE, it dropped 4.45 per cent to Rs 2,842 apiece. The stock emerged as the biggest laggard among the Sensex pack. Asian Paints Ltd on Wednesday reported a 24.64 per cent decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 1,186.79 crore in the June quarter, hit by demand slowdown due to severe heatwave and general elections. The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 1,574.84 crore in the same period last fiscal year, Asian Paints said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated revenue from operations in the first quarter of the current fiscal was down at Rs 8,969.73 crore, as compared to Rs 9,182.31 crore in the year-ago period, it added. Total expenses were higher at Rs 7,559.04 crore, up from 7,305.09 crore in the corresponding period of the last fiscal. "Demand conditions for the paint industry were tough, impacted by the severe heatwave and general elections in the quarter," Asian Paints Ltd Managing Director &amp; CEO Amit Syngle said. Asian Paints shares drop over 4% after Q1 earnings

Reliance Jio lost around 10.9 million subscribers in the quarter to reach 479 million subscribers whereas Vi lost 5.1 million subscribers in this quarter mainly in the 2G segment to reach 205 million subscribers. This quarter also saw increased porting to the government-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), from private operators as tariffs were not raised by the telco. The report says SIM consolidation is expected to be largely over by the end of the third quarter of the current fiscal. It adds that besides tariff hikes, ARPU for the sector will continue to grow also led by subscribers moving from 2G to 4G and growth in post-paid subscribers. The report says with these changes and reforms of September 2021, the telecom sector is moving towards some sort of stability. About the revival of Vi, the report says the government now has a 24% equity stake in the telco. The company is in discussion with banks to raise debt capital of ₹250 billion for its capex plans of ₹500-550 billion over the next 3 years to improve its network capacity. Telcos report a rise in ARPU after tariff hike, lose subscribers

India's largest paint maker <keyword id="20026009" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Asian-Paints" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Asian Paints" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Asian Paints">Asian Paints</keyword>, reported a 24.5% dip in its net profits for the quarter, pushing it down to Rs 1,170 crore from Rs 1,383 crore in the same quarter last year. The company's net sales during the quarter also dipped by over 2% to touch Rs 8,970 crore, compared to Rs 9,182.31 crore in the year-ago period. In a statement, Amit Syngle, MD and CEO of Asian Paints attributed the below-expectation results to tough demand conditions during <keyword id="21159844" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="April-June" source="keywords">April-June</keyword>, which also saw severe heatwaves and general elections. However, he expected the demand to pick up soon, largely on the back of improving <keyword id="22447264" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rural-sentiment" source="keywords">rural sentiment</keyword> and monsoon making headway in the country. The company's international sales also took hit, down to Rs 679.1 crore from Rs 695.1 crore, mainly due to liquidity and forex crises it experienced in the key markets, namely Asia, Nepal, Bangladesh and Egypt. On the other hand, Ethiopia and <keyword id="19931726" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sri-lanka" source="keywords">Sri Lanka</keyword> proved beneficial for the company's international growth during the quarter. In June 2024, the company paid out a final dividend of Rs 28.15 per equity share to its shareholders. The company also reported a 7% volume growth during the previous quarter. But its EBITDA margin during the quarter shrunk from 23.1% in the same quarter last year to 18.1% between April-June 2024. The company's consolidated profits before depreciation, interest, tax, income and exceptional items dipped to Rs 1,694 crore, as compared to Rs 2,121 crore in the year ago period. <h2>Bath fitting sales inch up </h2>The only segment within the business' umbrella that registered growth was the bath fitting segment, which grew by 10%, and <keyword id="6921293" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kitchen-fittings" source="Orion">kitchen fittings</keyword>, which jumped by 4.6%. The company's industrial business grew by 5.8% due to solid growth in auto original equipment manufacturing (OEM) and the powder coating segments. At close of markets on Tuesday, the paint maker's stock was trading at Rs 2,968.00, up by 0.39%. Over the last year, the company's share has fallen by as much as 14.23%, but it remains a solid catch for long-term investors, jumping up by 116.78% over the last 5 years.

The company's active subscribers stand at 383.66 million users out of its 387.33 million users, which is 99.05% of its total user base. <h2>Vi continues to bleed subscribers</h2>Vi, which is yet to launch 5G services in the country has once again reported a huge decline in subscribers. The company lost nearly 1.41 million users in July 2024. The company’s subscriber base decreased from 217.30 million in June 2024 to 215.88 million users in July 2024. Out of the 215.88 million users, the company’s active user base stands at 185.23 million users, which is 85.80%. <h2>Reliance Jio also records a decline in users</h2>Reliance Jio, which has been continuously increasing its subscriber base lost 7,58,463 subscribers in July 2024. With this, Jio's subscriber base has decreased from 476.53 million in June 2024 to 475.77 million in July 2024. Out of the 475.77 million subscribers, the company’s active subscriber base stood at 440.73 million, which is 92.64%. <h2>MNP requests continue to grow</h2>Mobile number portability (MNP), which allows users to shift from one telecom operator to another, recorded 13.68 million requests during July 2024. With this, the total number of MNP requests received since the introduction of this in November 2010 has reached 1.01 billion. Jio and Airtel lost subscribers in July after tariff hike, BSNL records growth

Reliance <keyword id="19906886" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jio" source="keywords">Jio</keyword>, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea increased their mobile service plan rates in the range of 10-27 % in the first week of July. Airtel and Vodafone Idea have more than doubled their entry-level mobile rates in the last 2-3 years to Rs 199 that comes with 28 days validity. State-run <keyword id="19970536" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSNL" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="BSNL" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="BSNL">BSNL</keyword> was the only player that added new subscribers and led the market in terms of new net customer addition, according to a monthly subscribers report released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Friday. According to the report, BSNL added over 2.94 million mobile subscribers in July. Bharti Airtel lost 1.69 million mobile subscribers which was highest among its peers. Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio lost 1.41 million and 758,000 mobile subscribers, respectively. Overall, the telecom subscriber base in the country declined marginally to 1,205.17 million in July from 1,205.64 million in June. North East, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Mumbai, Kolkata, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Bihar, West Bengal, UP East, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh telecom circles recorded decline in mobile customer base post the hike in mobile services rates. The wireline or the fixed line connections segment increased by about 1% to 35.56 million in July from 35.11 million in June. Reliance Jio led the fixed-line segment with addition of over 480,000 new subscribers. It was followed by Bharti Airtel which added over 136,000 new subscribers, VMIPL 12,413, Vi 11,375, Tata Teleservices 3,971 and Quadrant added 12 new fixed line customers. BSNL was the biggest loser in the segment. The state-run firm lost 134,000 fixed line customers and its sister concern lost 56,454 customers. The broadband customer base in the country increased to 946.19 million at the end of July from 940.75 million in June. Top five players accounted for 98.42% of total broadband connection in the country. Reliance Jio led the chart with 488.63 million <keyword id="23252277" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="broadband-customers" source="keywords">broadband customers</keyword>, Airtel with 284.03 million, Vodafone Idea with 126.72 million, BSNL with 29.61 million and Atria Convergence with 2.26 million. Out of the 463.78 million subscribers, the company’s active subscriber base stood at 444.49 million, which is 95.84%, marking a steady increase in its active subscriber base. Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel has also recorded a significant decline in its subscriber base in September at 1.43 million users. The telco’s subscriber base declined from 384.91 million in August 2024 to 383.48 million in September 2024. The telco continues to enjoy a high active subscriber base. The company's active subscribers stand at 380.68 million users out of its 383.48 million users, which is 99.27% of its total user base, the highest among all the telcos. <h2>Vi continues to bleed subscribers</h2>Vi, which is yet to launch 5G services in the country has once again reported a huge decline in subscribers. The company lost 1.55 million users in September 2024. The company’s subscriber base decreased from 214 million in August 2024 to 212.45 million users in September 2024. Jio, Airtel and Vi lost nearly 11 million subscribers in September 2024

Coal India Limited (<keyword id="19983407" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CIL" source="keywords">CIL</keyword>) achieved an 8 per cent <keyword id="19910261" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="growth" source="keywords">growth</keyword> in <keyword id="19922489" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="coal-production" source="keywords">coal production</keyword>, reaching 189.3 million <keyword id="22246379" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tonnes" source="keywords">tonnes</keyword> in the first quarter of the current fiscal, surpassing its target of 189.2 million tonnes, the company said in a statement on Monday. The company's production increased by 13.8 million tonnes compared to the corresponding quarter of FY'24, with all seven producing subsidiaries registering positive growth, it said. CIL's supplies also rose by 6 per cent to 198.4 million tonnes during April-June 2024, with a significant increase in supplies to both power and non-power sectors, it added. The company's coal loading witnessed healthy growth, with an average of 367.2 rakes per day, a 10.3 per cent year-on-year increase, it said. Higher production and loading resulted in a substantial increase in coal inventory at CIL's pitheads, reaching 81.5 million tonnes, providing a sufficient buffer to meet any sudden surge in demand, it said. At a time when power demand in the country is surging, the miner stepped up its supplies to coal-fired plants, registering a 4 per cent growth to 160 million tonnes in <keyword id="20501879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Q1" source="keywords">Q1</keyword> FY'25, a year-on-year increase of 6 million tonnes. In the same period of FY 2024, CIL's off-take to thermal power plants stood at 154 million tonnes, the company said. Additionally, CIL's supplies to the non-power sector reached an all-time high of 38.4 million tonnes in Q1FY25, logging a 16 per cent growth. This sector had received 33 million tonnes in April-June 2023. The growth in June 2024 alone was 23 per cent at 13.4 million tonnes, the statement said. Coal India's Q1 production surges 8% to 189.3 million tonne in FY'25

Indian companies across multiple sectors have reported disappointing results in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025, notes a new JM Financials report. Consequently, their poor performance has triggered stock price corrections for affected companies. The brunt of this weaker than expected earnings was largely borne by consumer centric sectors like FMCG (fast moving consumer goods), retail, and auto, which slacked largely due to dampened urban demand. For instance, India's largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki, reported a 5% YoY decline in its total domestic passenger vehicle wholesales, largely on the back of pent-up inventory. Similarly, Honda reported a staggering 23% YoY dip in its total sales during October 2024. A recent report by Bernstein noted that around 48% of the companies listed on the NSE100 index missed their earnings estimate for Q2FY25, the highest since March 2020. Most companies have mentioned deteriorated domestic demand, urban slowing, macroeconomic risk, and margin pressures as the main reasons behind the dip. "The quarter's earnings have made investors nervous," noted the JM Financials report. The challenging environment stems from multiple factors: softening consumer demand, rising input costs, and companies' limited ability to increase prices. Moreover, this is not limited to just one quarter. Companies have been reporting weak, single-digit earnings growth for the last six consecutive quarters. Data from India Data Hub also suggests that corporate profits of listed companies plunged by as much as 3.4% during the quarter ended September 30, 2024. This is in stark contrast to the year-ago period, where they had shot up by over 40% The oil and gas sector had a difficult quarter, with refiners hit by weak margins and city gas distributors struggling with higher input costs. Financial institutions showed mixed results. While government-owned banks reported strong numbers, microfinance institutions and some private lenders faced massive difficulties with their unsecured loans. Most notable amongst this was the case of IndusInd Bank, which saw its net profits dip by 40% amidst burgeoning provisions, which climbed 87% to Rs 1,820 crore in Q2, as against Rs 974 crore reported in the year-ago period. <h2>Markets head southwards</h2>The selling trend by FPIs has dragged down the major Indian indices, the Nifty 50 and Sensex, both of which have dropped by around 8% since the beginning of this selling spree in October. According to National Securities Depository Ltd. (NSDL) data, FPIs offloaded equities worth a significant Rs 19,994 crore in just the first five trading sessions of November last week. The impact is clearly visible on Indian stock markets. Data suggests that while every sector in October closed the month in red, auto, oil and gas, and consumer durables were the most badly hit, each declining by as much as 10% during the month. Another indicator underlining the inherent weakness of the market was that the month saw only 242 stocks hit their 52-week high, significantly below the usual monthly average of 310.

Its revenue from operations for Q4FY24 came in at Rs 25,959 crore, up 11 per cent over the year-ago period. The net profit was pegged at Rs 5,337 crore for just-ended quarter, up from Rs 4,716 crore in the fourth quarter of FY23, which translated into a 13.16 per cent increase. According to a BSE filing by the company, for the full FY24, the net profit stood at Rs 20,466 crore, which was 12.4 per cent higher than that of FY23. The revenue for full fiscal ended March 2024 was Rs 1,00,119 crore, up 10.2 per cent over the preceding fiscal. Out of the 476.53 million subscribers, the company’s <keyword id="22859675" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="active-subscriber-base" source="keywords">active subscriber base</keyword> stood at 440.94 million, which is 92.53%. <h2>Airtel adds 1.25 million subscribers</h2>Sunil Mittal-led Bharti Airtel has once again added 1.25 million subscribers, just like May 2024. With this, the company's subscriber base has increased from 387.77 million in May 2024 to 389.02 million in June 2024. Airtel continues to enjoy a high active subscriber base. Out of the 217.30 million users, the company’s active user base stands at 188.26 million users, which is 86.64%. <h2>State-run BSNL loses subscribers</h2>State-run telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) reported a loss of 0.75 million subscribers in June 2024.
