The Nifty 50 index opened at 25,430.45, gaining 41.55 points or 0.16 percent, while the BSE Sensex opened at 83,091.55 points, a surge of 128.84 points or 0.16 percent. Global markets are rallying ahead of the Fed rate cuts, and <keyword id="19991358" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-markets" source="keywords">Indian markets</keyword> are continuously reaching new highs, reflecting strong investor confidence. "The focus is totally on the Fed action and Fed speak of Sep 18th. But the Sep 12th Indian markets action is pointing to a classical flows pattern of equity markets getting inflows as the US dollar weakens on the back of Fed rate cuts. Ether hits a record high above $4,400 after a successful network upgrade clears the path for ETH 2.0

Mumbai, Dec 20 () Equity benchmarks rose marginally to close at record highs for the fourth straight session on Friday, buoyed by bank, finance and IT shares. 
 Gains were muted as investors turned jittery at the fag end of the session on macroeconomic concerns after Fitch Ratings cut India's GDP growth forecast for 2019-20, traders said.
 After opening on a firm footing, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 7.62 points, or 0.02 per cent, higher at 41,681.54. It hit a lifetime intra-day high of 41,809.96 during the session.
 Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty rose 12.10 points, or 0.09 per cent, to its new record of 12,271.80. It hit an intra-day high of 12,293.90.
 During the week, the Sensex rose 671.83 points or 1.63 per cent, while Nifty advanced 185.10 points or 1.53 per cent.
 Tata Steel was the top gainer in the Sensex pack on Friday, rallying 3.23 per cent, followed by SBI, Yes Bank, Hero MotoCorp, ICICI Bank and Bharti Airtel.
 On the other hand, Vedanta was the biggest loser, shedding 3.45 per cent. Kotak Bank, Tata Motors, ITC, M&amp;M and Sun Pharma too ended in the red.
 According to traders, participants offloaded equities at the fag end of the session after Fitch Ratings cut India's GDP growth forecast for 2019-20 fiscal year to 4.6 per cent on deterioration in business and consumer confidence.
 Stocks traded with a positive bias during the day on hopes of Budget stimulus to spur economic growth, analysts said.
 "Market maintained a positive bias amid a narrow range. RBI's open market operation to bridge liquidity gap provided impetus to investors. Bond yield slid to 6.57 per cent while PSU banks gained in expectation of higher treasury gains.
 "A short term consolidation cannot be ruled out as investors may slide to a holiday mood, last two weeks we had a solid Santa clause rally," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
 BSE consumer durables, telecom, realty, utilities, metal, power and finance indices rose up to 1.20 per cent.
 However, healthcare, auto, energy and capital goods lost up to 0.42 per cent.
 Broader BSE midcap index rose 0.15 per cent, while smallcap gauge slipped 0.03 per cent.
 On a net basis, foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 739.43 crore, while domestic institutional investors sold shares worth Rs 493.95 crore on Thursday, data available with stock exchange showed.
 World equities climbed to fresh highs as investors remained in a bullish mood ahead of the holiday season.
 In Asia, Hong Kong and Seoul settled on a positive note, while bourses in Shanghai and Tokyo ended in the red.
 Benchmark indices in Europe were trading higher in their respective early sessions.
 On the currency front, the rupee depreciated 13 paise against the US dollar to 71.16 (intra-day).

Government expenditure declined 4.8% in the June quarter of 2021. “Government spend this year would likely be in the form of transfer/subsidies payments, with no material contribution to GDP,” said Madhavi Arora, Lead Economist, Emkay Global. Weak consumer demand The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data for August shows that the consumer confidence remained weak and at an all-time low due to lower incomes and higher level of price. “Driven by substantial improvements in the outlook for general economic situation and employment scenario after the waning of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the future expectations index (FEI) returned to optimistic territory; respondents placed higher confidence on household income going forward,” said RBI’s consumer confidence survey. Signs of rising COVID-19 cases Rising COVID cases is another risk haunting the economy with fear of an imminent third wave. On September 2, India reported 47,092 new infections, the biggest single-day rise in two months. About 509 deaths were recorded during the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry. Yardeni says the market's return to record highs is partially dependent on the election's outcome, and that a gridlock outcome is the best-case scenario for the market."If we get a sweep of the Democrats or a sweep of the Republicans, I don't think the market is going to look forward to those kinds of regime," Yardeni said. "I think the market much more prefers gridlock."Gridlock in the capitol often results in sluggish legislative action, which markets prefer as it creates less uncertainty and fewer regulatory surprises to deal with. According to data from LPL Financial, the S&amp;P 500 has historically climbed during a split or Republican-controlled Congress and Democratic president."I think gridlock will win," Yardeni said."If that's the case, then I think the market will move higher, simply because the economy is doing fine notwithstanding the tightening of monetary policy over the past couple of years, all the geopolitical and domestic political stress. But all in all, the economy is doing fine," he added.

The stock market will be volatile until the election before resuming its rally to record highs, market vet Ed Yardeni says

Mumbai, Jan 20 () Market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty opened at record peaks on Monday tracking strong quarterly results by index heavyweights Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank.
 After rallying over 300 points to hit a fresh lifetime high of 42,273.87, the 30-share BSE index pared gains to trade 31.32 points or 0.07 per cent higher at 41,976.69. 
 Similarly, the broader NSE Nifty scaled an all-time high of 12,430.50, up 12,430.50 points or 0.63 per cent. It, too, pared early gains to trade marginally higher.
 PowerGrid was the top gainer in the Sensex pack, rallying up to 4 per cent, followed by ITC, Asian Paints, M&amp;M and HDFC.
 Shares of Reliance Industries (RIL) and HDFC Bank jumped up to 2 per cent in early session following the announcement of their corporate earnings over the weekend.
 RIL on Friday posted a record quarterly net profit of Rs 11,640 crore as a turnaround in oil refining business together with the continued rise in the share of its consumer businesses of retail and telecom countered lower profitability in petrochemicals.
 HDFC Bank on Saturday reported a 32.8 per cent growth in net profit to Rs 7,416.5 crore for the third quarter ended December 31 driven by interest and non-interest income.
 On the other hand, TCS was the top laggard, shedding over 1 per cent, after the country's largest software exporter reported a flat December quarter net profit at Rs 8,118 crore and also made it clear that it will not be able to notch a double-digit revenue growth in 2019-20.
 HCL Tech, Kotak Bank and Hero MotoCorp too fell up to 1.44 per cent.
 According to traders, domestic investors are reacting to corporate results released after market hours last week, and also booking profits at higher levels.
 Bourses in Shanghai, Tokyo and Seoul were trading on a positive note in their early sessions, while Hong Kong was in the red.
 Brent crude oil futures rose 0.14 per cent to USD 65.59 per barrel.
 Meanwhile, the rupee was trading flat at 71.06 against the US dollar in morning session.
 In the previous session, Sensex settled 12.81 points, or 0.03 per cent, higher at 41,945.37, while the Nifty ended 3.15 points, or 0.03 per cent, down at 12,352.35.
 Meanwhile, on a net basis, foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 264.26 crore, while domestic institutional investors offloaded shares worth Rs 500.17 crore on Friday, data available with stock exchanges showed. ANS

<ul><li>After a subdued start to 2018, following a boom year in 2017, India’s stock markets have bounced back in the last few months. </li><li>The Sensex crossed 37,000 points for the first time in its history while Nifty reached a new high of 11,232 points. </li><li>A number of reasons have contributed to this performance such as strong quarterly earnings from Indian companies, an improvement in the rupee and a solid monsoon season. </li></ul>Indian investors have finally been given a reason to celebrate following a slump in the value of the rupee and the exodus of foreign portfolio investors. After a subdued start to 2018, following a boom year in 2017, the country’s stock markets have bounced back in the last few months. The upward trajectory, which commenced at the start of the new financial year, culminated in record highs on July 26th. The Sensex, a benchmark index of 30 <keyword id="6354298" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Stocks">stocks</keyword> on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), crossed 37,000 points for the first time in its history, <a href="https://www.google.co.in/search?q=sensex&amp;oq=sensex+&amp;aqs=chrome..69i57j69i60l3j0l2.3445j0j9&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8">closing at 37,253 points</a>. In fact, it has gained more than 500 points alone this week. Meanwhile the Nifty, a benchmark index of 50 stocks on the National Stock Exchange, reached a new high of 11,232 points. This performance is largely due to buying frenzy by domestic investors. In addition to the government’s easy defeat of a no-confidence motion and a solid monsoon season, a number of other factors have caused this renewed confidence in Indian markets. Strong Q1 earnings from India Inc A number of large Indian companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Hindustan Unilever and Maruti Suzuki have posted strong quarterly results for the April-June period. The highest growth in sales and profits has been seen by companies in the consumer goods and IT sectors, whose results have been measured against a weak year-ago quarter wherein they were preparing for the implementation of the GST regime and recovering from demonetisation. Additionally, the decline in the value of the rupee has seen companies in export-led sectors record higher profit margins. A rebound in bank stocks The stocks of <keyword id="6368751" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="banks">banks</keyword> and financial institutions, especially SBI, ICICI Bank and Axis Bank, have been performing extremely well as concerns regarding the bad loan crisis have waned slightly. The Bombay Stock Exchange’s banking index is up by more than 5% since the beginning of the year. On July 24th, a number of public-sector banks signed an intercreditor agreement to allow for the quick resolution of stressed assets. As per the agreement, a liquidation plan will only require the approval of two-thirds of the relevant creditors to be passed. A number of private banks are expected to sign the creditor agreement soon. An improvement in the rupee The rupee has fared well in the past week, staying well below the 69 mark amid the weakening of the dollar as exporters and Indian companies have selling off their dollar reserves. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has had a large part to play in the propping up of the currency, dipping into its foreign exchange reserves to stem the rupee’s slide. As a result, the RBI’s forex reserves have declined from around $426 billion since the start of the financial year to around $400 billion. They are expected to declined further as the foreign investor pullout from emerging markets continues. The aversion of a trade war between the US and EU Global markets have slumped in recent months following concerns of a full-blown trade between the US and its major trade partners - the likes of which include the European Union and China. As the US-China dispute continues, at least the rift with the EU has been avoided for now. On July 25th, the European Union and White House released <a href="http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_STATEMENT-18-4687_en.htm">a joint statement </a>pledging to iron on their differences with respect to trade and work towards zero-tariffs and lower barriers. US and European investors responded positively, driving global markets to a four-month high.
