Mumbai, Mar 24 () In what may go down as an important solution in India's fight against coronavirus, Pune-based Mylabs Discovery Solutions has created an indigenous solution to test patients for COVID-19 that can halve the time taken for results. The molecular diagnostic company, which received statutory approvals late on Monday from authorities, can manufacture over 15,000 testing kits per day from its facility at Lonavala in Pune district and the same will be ramped up to 25,000 kits per day, its co-founder Shrikant Patole told . Citing the experience in South Korea, the World Health Organisation has been stressing on the importance of tests to fight the pandemic, which has so far claimed nine lives in India. Though around 500 people have been tested positive for the virus in India so far, experts are bracing for a sharp increase fearing it may have spread across and also point out to a low level of testing in the country. Patole explained that the company is able to shorten the test time to 2.5 hours with the 'Mylab PathoDetect COVID-19 Qualitative PCR kit' as against the prevalent 6-8 hours because its team has created a solution that does both the screening and confirmation jobs simultaneously. Its team of 25 scientists started working on the solution six weeks ago, fearing that the crisis may eventually hit India, he said, adding that the company had started as a trading firm in 2012 and diversified into research in 2016. The test for COVID-19 will also pick up positive cases among asymptomatic patients, Patole said, adding that the approvals from the National Institute of Virology, Indian Council of Medical Research and Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) were received after a test sampling on patients at Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital which is the nodal location for treating Coronavirus cases. He did, however, specify the sample size where the kit was used to confirm results. The Mylab kit was selected along with a solution offered by a German company for the tests. Patole explained that till now, India has been using kits prepared by the state-run National Institute of Virology (NIV), also based in Pune, but it was the fears over the increase in numbers which made private sector interventions in manufacturing necessary. The testing kits done by NIV are costing up to Rs 4,500 per sample if we include both screening and confirmation, Patole said, claiming that Mylabs is confident of selling the kits at a fourth of that cost. He said allowing private labs to conduct tests is essential given the potential threats. Patole also said that its kit can work within the infrastructure for testing available with Indian diagnostic labs, and does not require any new machinery, which the most imported. The company is in the process of creating similar test kits for HIV, hepatitis-B and also tuberculosis. A team of four founders and investors have invested over Rs 25 crore in the company till now and there are no external investors, Patole said. The company is looking to rope in investors, he added. Mumbai, Jan 3 () <keyword id="370068" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashok-Piramal">Ashok Piramal</keyword> Group <keyword id="6384816" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="realty">realty</keyword> firm <keyword id="212999" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Peninsula-Land">Peninsula Land</keyword>, which delayed debt repayment of Rs 2.35 crore to <keyword id="13222" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SBI">SBI</keyword>, has blamed the government for not paying rent on time for commercial property leased by tax departments that resulted in missing the due date. In a regulatory filing, the company said that it could not make the repayment of Rs 2.35 crore to SBI as the government's tax departments failed to make timely payment of the rent towards the property leased out to them.
 "The debt and interest against this facility are serviced by an arrangement whereby the monthly rent received from the government goes towards the discharge of the dues under the said facility. Lately, there have been delays in the payment of rent by the government which, in turn, resulted in delay in payment to SBI on the due date," the company said.
 Peninsula Land has obtained a lease rental discounting facility (LRD) from the SBI against the rent receivable from the government's tax departments, including the Income Tax and GST departments, in respect of a commercial property leased out.
 The company has borrowed secured term loan from SBI with the principal being of Rs 177.72 crore and having a total tenure of 143 months at an interest rate of 9.95 per cent per annum.
 "...in the month of December 2019 alone, the company has paid an amount of Rs 265 crore towards repayment of debt and interest obligations. Hence there is no question of defaulting for an amount as small as Rs 2.35 crore," the company said.
 At present, the company's total debt including short-term and long-term facilities stand at Rs 1,630.65 crore and it owes Rs 999.74 crore to banks and financial institutions.
 Currently, Peninsula has a portfolio of nearly eight million sqft in Mumbai and has projects in Pune, Nashik, Lonavala, Bangalore and Goa. PSK MJH MR

Ashok Piramal group realty firm says misses debt repayment as tax dept delays rent

New Delhi, Jan 5 () Continuing with its pro-employee initiatives, Sebi plans to rope in an agency to provide holiday home facility to the markets regulator for its annual requirement of 10,000 room nights on pan-India basis for its staff.
 Earlier in October, Sebi had invited applications to hire an agency for providing gym instructors and trainers as well as a firm to supply flowers and look after floral managements at its office.
 The markets watchdog, which has been taking several pro-staff initiatives, has now invited "Expression of Interest from reputed, well established entities or agencies having hotels or resorts at tourist destinations in India to provide holiday home facility to Sebi".
 Spelling out the eligibility criteria, the regulator said the agencies should have a minimum experience of three years in hospitality business -- owning and running hotel chains and resorts.
 The applicant agencies should necessarily have their well-established resorts or hotels with all modern facilities at at least 10 locations from the 24 locations, including Srinagar, Mussoorie, Amritsar, Delhi, Mumbai, Ooty, Goa, Gangtok, Darjeeling, Lonavala, Mysore, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Kolkata and Pune.
 The properties offered at each location should be near the tourist attraction in such destinations and should have facilities like restaurant, fitness centre, laundry and room service among others.
 "Preference would be given to properties having amenities such as indoor games, swimming pool, health club etc," the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in a notice.
 The regulator said that the properties should be available throughout the year for the employees of Sebi.
 Interested agencies will have to send application to Sebi by January 17, 2020.
 Among other pro-staff measures, Sebi in 2015 had introduced ''special hardship leave'' for up to two years for female employees once they complete five years of service.
 A female employee may avail special hardship leave as extension of maternity leave irrespective of completion of service of five years with the regulator.
 The ''special hardship leave'' can be applied for the purposes of taking care of family or children or on health grounds of self or dependent family members.

Another popular platform – Zostel which offers the hostel experience, too has seen a 70% hike in bookings from last Diwali. For the festive season in October, Zostel has received over 14,000 room night bookings with a total expected of 24,000. Zostel saw a 32% increase in inbound foreign travelers, and 27% increase in solo travelers, 42% increase in female travelers along with a 28% increase in solo female travelers. But it’s not just about short getaways, Indians also have long planned international vacations. According to booking platform Cleartrip, Indians have been booking for trips to Thailand, Istanbul, Dubai, Singapore and Malaysia. “Among international travellers, we are seeing an emergence of the quest for new. Thailand bookings that are usually skewed in favour of Bangkok and Pattaya are seeing a shift towards Phuket. Another top emerging destination on the list of international travellers is Istanbul, which has made it among the top 10 destinations this festive season. The emergence of Phuket and Istanbul is also propelled by the new capacity added by Indian LCCs to those destinations,” said Balu Ramchandran, Senior Vice President – Cleartrip.
