New Delhi, State-owned <keyword id="19909029" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhel" source="keywords">BHEL</keyword> on Wednesday said it has bagged an order to set up a 2,400 <keyword id="20225858" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mw-supercritical-thermal-power-project" source="keywords">MW supercritical thermal power project</keyword> (STPP) from coal <keyword id="20225857" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="psu-nlc" source="keywords">PSU NLC</keyword> India Ltd. This is the largest power sector order won by the company through competitive bidding, BHEL said in a statement. "BHEL bags an order for setting up a 2,400 MW Supercritical Thermal <keyword id="47379" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-project" source="Orion">Power Project</keyword>. BHEL has won the prestigious order under <keyword id="20225859" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-competitive-bidding" source="keywords">International Competitive Bidding</keyword> (ICB) for the greenfield project on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis at Jharsuguda in Odisha," the company said. The scope of the EPC contract includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of crucial equipment, such as boilers, turbines, generators, and other auxiliary systems, for the 3x800 MW thermal power project. The scope also includes boilers with biomass co-firing capability and highly efficient latest pollution control equipment. The project will be commissioned within 64 months. On commissioning, this plant will contribute to meeting the future base load requirement of electricity in the country. The major equipment will be manufactured at BHEL's Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Bengaluru, Ranipet, Bhopal, Rudrapur, and Varanasi plants while the company's power sector - southern region will be responsible for the civil works, and erection and commissioning of the equipment. BHEL has a long-standing partnership with <keyword id="20174233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nlcil" source="keywords">NLCIL</keyword> and installed a significant 77 per cent of the coal/lignite-based power stations of the utility, totalling 3,590 MW. It is the largest manufacturer of power generation equipment in the country and has been a major partner in the country's vision to achieve self-reliance in energy.

New Delhi, Apr 14 () State-owned NLC India has discontinued the use of eight disinfection tunnels installed as a safety measure for its employees against Covid-19 following concerns raised about its effectiveness and the harm it may cause to human health, an official said. "The PSU was operating eight disinfection tunnels at its power plants, townships and hospital. But three days ago the company stopped using it on the directions issued by the state government of Tamil Nadu," a company source told . The company, which was in the process of setting up two more such disinfection tunnels, will not do so now due the concerns raised by the government, he added. The Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Chennai, recently instructed all government departments in Tamil Nadu not to install such tunnels. It said that "disinfection tunnels will create a false sense of security and people may be diverted from handwash to disinfection tunnels. In addition, the spraying of alcohol/chlorine/lysol on human beings is not only harmful but also ineffective." "....it is instructed that disinfection tunnels should not be installed and used," it said. A company official had earlier said that "NLC Thermal team has fabricated disinfecting tunnels by using packing material and spares available with power plants which are now being used by all the power plants and mines in Neyveli." The company had earlier said disinfecting tunnels were set up to ensure protection of all employees before they entered the plants and mines. The PSU has also set up a 'fever clinic' for those with symptoms like fever, cough and breathing difficulties. Besides, NLC India has taken up measures for in-house preparation of liquid soap solution and sanitisers at its research centre. Covid-19: NLC India stops use of disinfection tunnels

New Delhi, Mar 20 () In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, state-owned Coal India Ltd has taken measures like setting up of isolation wards in hospitals run by its arms and encouraging usage of e-office, the coal ministry said on Friday. In order to contain the spread of coronavirus infection, the PSU has also taken measures like awareness drives for employees and contractual staff especially for frontline staff, cafeteria staff, drivers, housekeeping staff and maintenance personnel, the coal ministry said in a statement. All sports, events and public gatherings among others has been discontinued until further orders, it said. The recruitment exam has been postponed until further orders. The employees having history of foreign travel or contact with travellers from foreign countries are being identified and screened in Coal India arm WCL. "Ministry of Coal is taking various measures for prevention against COVID-19 to ensure strict compliance of the Advisories issued by Government of India from time to time," the statement said. The Ministry of Coal at its headquarters in Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi, has deployed a dedicated team of cleaning staff to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitizing of the work place, frequently touched surfaces viz. door handles, door locks, office floors, common corridor and office equipment. At NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), recent travel history in the prescribed format is being obtained for all the guests arriving in company's guest houses. "Four wards with isolation facilities in NLCIL General Hospital for quarantining 73 persons are kept in readiness to handle any emergency in the context of COVID 19," the statement said. Training workshops were organised for doctors and paramedical staff of NLCIL general hospital on COVID-19. "NLCIL maintains around 20,000 self-contained quarters under its ambit and health and hygiene of the township," it said. All the health inspectors have been sensitized on the COVID-19. New Delhi, Mar 29 () Power producers' total outstanding dues owed by distribution firms rose nearly 32 per cent to Rs 88,311 crore in January 2020 over the same month previous year, reflecting stress in the sector.Distribution companies (discoms) owed a total of Rs 67,012 crore to power generation companies in January 2019, according to portal PRAA (Payment Ratification And Analysis in Power procurement for bringing Transparency in Invoicing of generators).The portal was launched in May 2018 to bring in transparency in power purchase transactions between the generators and discoms.In January 2020, the total overdue amount, which was not cleared even after 60 days of grace period offered by generators, stood at Rs 76,192 crore as against Rs 51,453 crore in the same month of the preceding year. According to the latest data on the portal, outstanding dues in January has decreased over the preceding month. In December 2019, the total dues of discoms stood at Rs 86,948 crore.However, the overdue amount in January increased over the preceding month, from Rs 75,930 crore in December 2019.Power producers give 60 days to discoms for paying bills for the supply of electricity. After that, outstanding dues become overdue and generators charge penal interest on that in most cases.In order to give relief to power generation companies (gencos), the Centre enforced a payment security mechanism from August 1, 2019. Under this mechanism, discoms are required to open letters of credit for getting power supply.The central government has given three months moratorium to discoms for paying dues to power generating companies (gencos) in view of lockdown till April 14 to contain COVID-19 across the country. The government has also waived off the penal charges for late payment of dues in the directive issued earlier this week.Discoms in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu &amp; Kashmir, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu account for the major portion of dues to power gencos, the data showed.Overdues of independent power producers amount to 25.94 per cent of the total overdue of Rs 76,192 crore of discoms in January. The proportion of PSU gencos in the overdue was 39 per cent.Among the central public sector power generators, the NTPC alone has an overdue amount of Rs 11,007.50 crore on discoms, followed by NLC India at Rs 4,731.13 crore, Damodar Valley Corporation at Rs 4,614.49 crore, NHPC at Rs 2,548.85 crore and THDC India at Rs 2,129.53 crore.Among private generators, discoms owe the highest overdue of 3,421.68 crore to RKMP (RKM Powergen Pvt Ltd) followed by Adani Power at Rs 3,201.68 crore, Bajaj Group-owned Lalitpur Power Generation Company Ltd at Rs 2,212.66 crore and GMR at Rs 1,930.16 crore.The overdue of non-conventional energy producers like solar and wind, stood at Rs 6,618.20 crore in January.
