And, he'll be looking after more than just Google. Google is Alphabet's largest subsidiary but it has a whole other division for its research and development ventures called Other Bets. The secondary division includes experimental projects like self-driving cars, health-tech — like smart contact lenses — and venture capital investments. Overall Alphabet has 13 other mini-companies under its umbrella, aside from Google. But, the Other Bets division hasn't been faring too well of late. In 2018, it posted a loss of $3.4 billion. Meanwhile, Alphabet has been pouring more money into Google's cloud business which meant less investment toward Other Bets. Here's a list of the projects that Pichai will now be looking after:

Across 30 states and Uts, the Centre has so far approved housing projects worth Rs 90,000 crore, with construction of 16.42 lakh affordable houses. Out of all the states, Tamil Nadu is leading the initiative with 2.27 lakh houses, followed by Andhra Pradesh (1.94 lakh houses) and Madhya Pradesh (1.81 lakh houses). 
 
"With this initiative we hope to tell the states, you have this land available at a certain place. Now send us a proposal because even if it is central land we will get the approvals done. This will hopefully increase the pace of implementation," the official added.

All government departments directed to spot vacant lands for more affordable housing projects

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said Google's Project Loon will interfere with cellular transmissions of mobile operators in India. 
 
Google through Project Loon plans to use big balloons floating at a height of 20 kilometers above earth surface for transmission of Internet services. 
 
"The proposed frequency band to be used in the Loon Project of Google is being used for cellular operations in India and it will lead to interference with cellular transmissions," said Prasad. 
 
He also said there will be technical glitches while approving Project Loon. 
 
As per Google, each balloon can provide connectivity to a ground area about 40 km in diameter using a wireless communications technology called LTE or 4G. 
 
To use LTE or 4G, Project Loon partners with telecom companies to share cellular spectrum so that people will be able to access the Internet everywhere directly from their phones and other LTE-enabled devices. 
 
Google uses solar panel and wind to power electronic equipment in the balloon throughout the day.

Construction activity across the real estate and mining sectors will also play a supportive role. The revenue for the domestic construction equipment sector is likely to grow this fiscal on a high base of 29% in the previous fiscal. "This will be driven by continued government focus on infrastructure build-out, especially roads, metros, and railways, including projects under the National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP)," the report reads. The increased pace of road construction, which accounts for 40% of the demand for construction equipment, augurs well for the sector's growth. Manufacturers are also witnessing robust demand from the real estate and mining sectors, as well as from contractors of bridge, airport, and metro corridor, said Poonam Upadhyay, Crisil Ratings Director. "In addition, some amount of pre-buying of equipment is also likely towards the last quarter of this fiscal, with the sector migrating to CEV Stage-V2 emission norms from April 1, 2024, which will increase equipment prices," Upadhyay added. In volume terms, the sector is projected to achieve all-time high sales of 1.2 lakh units this fiscal, compared to 1.1 lakh units in FY23. Earthmoving equipment accounted for 70% of sales volume last fiscal, material handling and concrete equipment 22%, while material processing equipment comprised the rest, the report said. Road projects to boost domestic construction equipment players' revenues

As many as 360 infrastructure projects, each worth Rs 150 crore or more, have shown cost overruns to the tune of over Rs 3.88 lakh crore owing to delays and other reasons, a report said. The <keyword id="188322" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Statistics">Ministry of Statistics</keyword> and Programme Implementation monitors infrastructure projects worth Rs 150 crore and above. Of these 1,608 projects, 360 reported cost overruns and 550 time escalation. "Total original cost of implementation of the 1608 projects was Rs 19,17,796.07 crore and their anticipated completion cost is likely to be Rs 23,05,860.33 crore, which reflects overall cost overruns of Rs 3,88,064.26 crore (20.23% of original cost)," the ministry's latest report for June 2019 said. According to the report, expenditure incurred on these projects till June 2019 stood at Rs 9,35,021.39 crore, which is 40.55 per cent of the anticipated cost of the projects. However, it said the number of delayed projects decreases to 474 if delay is calculated on the basis of latest schedule of completion. Further, it said that for 644 projects neither the year of commissioning nor the tentative gestation period has been reported. Out of 550 delayed projects, 182 projects have overall delay in the range of 1 to 12 months, 119 projects 13 to 24 months, 133 projects reflect delay in the range of 25 to 60 months and 116 projects show delay of 61 months and above. The average time overrun in these 550 delayed projects is 39.24 months. The brief reasons for time overruns, as reported by various project implementing agencies, are delays in land acquisition, forest clearance and supply of equipment. Besides, there are other reasons like fund constraints, geological surprises, geo-mining conditions, slow progress in civil works, shortage of labour, inadequate mobilisation by the contractor, Maoist problems, court cases, contractual issues, ROU/ROW (right of use/right of way) problems, law and order situation, among others, the report said. It also observed that project agencies are not reporting revised cost estimates and commissioning schedules for many projects, which suggests that time/cost overrun figures are under-reported.

360 infra projects in India show cost overruns of ₹3.88 trillion

The Reserve Bank of India (<keyword id="30067" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="RBI" source="Orion">RBI</keyword>) will today launch the nation's first <keyword id="15195039" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-rupee-pilot-project" source="Orion">digital rupee pilot project</keyword> for the <keyword id="3047329" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="wholesale-segment" source="Orion">wholesale segment</keyword>. In a statement, the central bank said that it will "soon commence pilot launches of <keyword id="10678165" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-rupee" source="Orion">Digital Rupee</keyword> (ea,) for specific use cases. Accordingly, the first pilot in the Digital Rupee - Wholesale segment (ea,-W) shall commence on November 1, 2022". The central bank further informed that "the first pilot in Digital Rupee - Retail segment (ea,-R) is planned for launch within a month in select locations in closed user groups comprising customers and merchants. The details regarding operationalisation of ea,-R pilot shall be communicated in due course". RBI has selected nine banks for participation in the digital rupee's wholesale <keyword id="6644808" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="pilot-project" source="Orion">pilot project</keyword>. These are State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Union Bank of India, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Yes Bank, IDFC First Bank and HSBC. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her budget speech on February 1 had announced that RBI will launch a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) in this fiscal. CBDC is a digital form of currency notes issued by a central bank. Digital currency or rupee is an electronic form of money, that can be used in contactless transactions. RBI to launch the nation's first digital rupee pilot project for the wholesale segment today

The Centre has proposed Rs 33.3 crore for ISRO's 'Project Netra' for securing Indian satellites from space debris and other dangers, according to documents related to supplementary demand for grants. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had moved a resolution for the grants for which the Lok Sabha granted approval last week. India has 15 communication satellites active in the geostationary orbit, 13 remote-sensing satellites active in low-earth orbit (2,000 km radius) and eight navigation satellites in medium-earth orbit. Apart from these, there are a number of smaller satellites present in the space. Former director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre M Y S Prasad said India is a responsible space power and monitoring capability is necessary for protection of space assets. "The NETRA project would provide India with the same capability as the US and Russia to assess threats from space debris and other hazards," he told -Bhasha. According to a report, about 17,000 man-made objects are monitored in space of which 7 per cent are active objects. After a time, these objects become inactive and collide with each other while revolving in space. Every year, there are many incidents of objects colliding in space. As a result, small pieces of debris rotate at extremely fast speeds. New Delhi, State-owned <keyword id="19909029" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhel" source="keywords">BHEL</keyword> on Wednesday said it has bagged an order to set up a 2,400 <keyword id="20225858" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mw-supercritical-thermal-power-project" source="keywords">MW supercritical thermal power project</keyword> (STPP) from coal <keyword id="20225857" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="psu-nlc" source="keywords">PSU NLC</keyword> India Ltd. This is the largest power sector order won by the company through competitive bidding, BHEL said in a statement. "BHEL bags an order for setting up a 2,400 MW Supercritical Thermal <keyword id="47379" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-project" source="Orion">Power Project</keyword>. BHEL has won the prestigious order under <keyword id="20225859" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-competitive-bidding" source="keywords">International Competitive Bidding</keyword> (ICB) for the greenfield project on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis at Jharsuguda in Odisha," the company said. The scope of the EPC contract includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of crucial equipment, such as boilers, turbines, generators, and other auxiliary systems, for the 3x800 MW thermal power project. The scope also includes boilers with biomass co-firing capability and highly efficient latest pollution control equipment. The project will be commissioned within 64 months. On commissioning, this plant will contribute to meeting the future base load requirement of electricity in the country. The major equipment will be manufactured at BHEL's Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Bengaluru, Ranipet, Bhopal, Rudrapur, and Varanasi plants while the company's power sector - southern region will be responsible for the civil works, and erection and commissioning of the equipment. BHEL has a long-standing partnership with <keyword id="20174233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nlcil" source="keywords">NLCIL</keyword> and installed a significant 77 per cent of the coal/lignite-based power stations of the utility, totalling 3,590 MW. It is the largest manufacturer of power generation equipment in the country and has been a major partner in the country's vision to achieve self-reliance in energy.
