The main chunk of their earnings come from winning tournaments like the PUBG Mobile Championship Open (PMCO) and the PUBG Mobile Star Challenge (PMSC) with grand prizes that go up to $2 million. “It was not easy for people to believe that Gaming or Esports could also be chosen as a profession but now everyone was considering it to be a career because of PUBG that the gaming scenario was brought out to such a huge audience,” explained Puri. PUBG is yet to issue a statement on the future of PUBG tournaments in India. If the government blocks PUBG on Indian IP addresses, as they did with Chinese mobile apps, which were banned in the first list, then competing won’t be possible. Even if one were to use a VPN to access the game, it would slow down reaction times and put Indian gamers at a disadvantage against their peers. “People outside will have a better ping advantage over us, which will make it very difficult for us to win or even give good competition,” said Dey. Should PUBG gamers migrate to alternatives like Fortnite or Garena Free Fire? If a gamer is signed up with a particular Esports company, it’s possible that may shift towards another game. However, not everyone is necessarily in the mood to do so. “Being so closely associated with the game it's really hard for me to make any decision towards any other game,” said Dey. Tencent's PUBG influence on India When PUBG Mobile first launched in 2018 for Indian users, it took the country by storm. Not just in terms of people rushing to download the game, but there were telltale signs of the culture itself all round — from <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynVWWMwPqUs">PUBG-themed restaurants</a> to the game’s signature level-three helmet sold at thrift shops. Most gamers were relieved when the game’s name was absent in the first list of banned apps that India <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/apps/news/checkout-the-name-of-the-chinese-banned-apps-in-india/articleshow/76696132.cms">released on June 29</a>. This was after the Galwan Valley border skirmish with China, where 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives, and there was an undisclosed number of casualties on the Chinese side. The aim behind the toned-down version of the original game was to bring more gamers online who may not necessarily own high-end phones. The ‘lite’ version was also to overcome any connectivity issues for gamers who live in areas that face network issues. Tencent loses nearly $34 billion since the PUBG Mobile ban in India — its second-largest valuation dip this year

<ul><li>PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Corporation is breaking ties with Tencent to develop the mobile version of its battle royale game in-house after Indian banned the game and 117 other mobile apps last week.</li><li><keyword id="9900533" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="pubg-corporation">PUBG Corporation</keyword> is based out of South Korea and holds the intellectual property rights for PUBG Mobile.</li><li>Lawyers point out that since the order by the Government was not specifically against any state, the decision is unlikely to have a bearing on the ban.</li></ul>The battle royale game with more than 50 million active players in India, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), will no longer be associated with the Chinese game developing mammoth Tencent. PUBG Corporation, the company which holds the intellectual property rights (IPR) for the mobile version of the game, issued a statement relaying their decision to take over the development responsibilities going forward. “It (PUBG Corporation) hopes to work hand-in-hand with the Indian government to find a solution that will allow gamers to once again drop into the battlegrounds while being fully compliant with Indian laws and regulations.,” <a href="https://www.pubg.com/en-us/2020/09/07/pubg-corporation-responds-to-pubg-mobiles-india-ban/">it said in response</a> to the ban against the mobile gaming app in India. The company claims is closely monitoring the situation and has seen an overwhelming amount of support from its local fan base. India’s ban on mobile apps isn’t against China on paper While India's ban on mobile apps only included apps of Chinese origin, the government press release was not specific to China. “These applications were blocked by the Government on the grounds of prejudice to sovereignty and integrity of India and security of state and public order,” Tanu Banerjee, a partner at IndusLaw told Business Insider, According to her, disengagement with Tencent may not be of any particular benefit for PUBG Mobile. "National security considerations make overturning of the ban under 69A of the IT Act rather difficult. However, with a change of ownership, the South Korean owner will have a better chance of convincing the committee set up by the government to look into the ban that they comply with government-mandated data safety laws and data of Indians is not at risk anymore," added Siddharth Mahajan, a partner at Athena Legal. India is PUBG Mobile's largest market, accounting for nearly one-fourth of the game's users. PUBG Mobile will no longer be developed by Tencent in India but experts say that may not be enough

After a successful run in the first season with 'Free Fire' earlier this year, which attracted over 14,000 team registrations, the second season of 'Gaming Masters' is set to commence with prize pool of Rs 12.5 lakh on November 23. 'Gaming Masters 2.0' will feature Krafton's hit battle royale game title, BGMI India, which will be made available to both Jio and non-Jio users via the JioGames platform, according to industry insiders. There will be a 'Play &amp; Win Daily' series where gamers can participate every day, get rewarded, and also stand a chance to compete with professional teams for the ultimate championship. While the role of each member differs, their common goal is pushing FaZe to the forefront of online culture with a steady stream of video content and branded street fashion. FaZe has attracted a list of investors including rapper Offset of Migos and snagged sponsors like Nissan and the Manchester City Football Club.FaZe separates its members into two groups: esports, which consists of players competing specific games in ongoing competitions; and content creation, which focuses on creating videos and other forms of media for consumption. Players are required to split a percentage of appearance fees, prize money, sponsorship deals, and other revenue with FaZe.But how do you get in?Business Insider spoke with Vera Salamone, FaZe's director of talent, and Erik Anderson, FaZe's head of esports, to find out what one of the most popular brands in the gaming industry looks for in new recruits.<h3>FaZe went from 'Call of Duty' YouTube videos to international esports recruiting</h3>FaZe's popularity started with one of the earliest forms of esports fandom.The organization began in 2010 as FaZe Sniping, a collection of "Call of Duty" players known for creating videos of their outrageous trick shots for YouTube. As a perennial best-seller, "Call of Duty" has an international audience, and millions of people became fans of FaZe's skilled players, including Richard "Banks" Bengtsson, Thomas "Temperrr" Oliveira, Nordan "Rain" Shat, and Yousef "Apex" Abdelfattah.The international focus has continued, as Anderson said FaZe is constantly recruiting on a global scale to find the best players to represent the team. FaZe players come from 15 different countries and the organization's latest esports signing included four "PUBG Mobile" players from Thailand."I'm looking for the best regardless of any background or where you come from," Anderson said. "I want to make sure that you've got a diverse group of people, but I also want to make sure that they're the top gamers."For older esports like "CounterStrike," FaZe looks for players who are performing well within the existing infrastructure, but newer games like "Fortnite" require more scouting from FaZe leadership. "It varies by game - some games have closed ecosystems where there's a pretty clear-cut selection of talent that's out there, with a path to get to that top level," Anderson said. "If you're making a name for yourself, you're going to get on people's radar. I think our guys, who've been doing this for about 10 years, kind of know what they're looking for. In FaZe Clan, we still have the soul of the company with our content creators, and they're still very active - weighing in and making sure the decisions are there, their voices are heard, and they're setting the tone."Anderson said that ultimately he wants esports recuits who will seize the opportunity to play professionally and remain passionate about their game of choice."I don't want to have to call a guy to wake him up to get him to and play video games as his career," Anderson said. "I want someone that's hungry to go and compete at a high level and understands that they're in a really amazing place to do that."<h3>If you want to join FaZe Clan's content team, passion and skills are more important than your follower count</h3>FaZe's content creation team is more focused on entertaining than competing.Team members living in FaZe's content creator house perform stunts, tricks, and pranks for millions of subscribers on YouTube. The team recently revealed a new $10 million mansion that will serve as a base of operations for the content creation team in Los Angeles.While generating buzz for the team is the goal, Salamone said that a massive social-media following on YouTube or Instagram isn't a requirement for joining FaZe. It's more important to show that you have unique skills and are self-motivated."We're looking for people that are really skilled and talented and have a passion," Salamone said. "Obviously we would like members that have the whole package and are on multiple platforms, but that isn't necessarily a defining factor for us."She continued: "We have definitely signed some talent before that was completely unknown on almost all platforms. Some of the founders that really pay attention discovered them and thought they had a special something. Along with producing video for the primary FaZe social channels, content team members also run their own personal YouTube and Instagram accounts, which helps FaZe cover even more of the online media landscape."For the content creators, each is so different that we don't have broad organization-wide goals, but the talent managers work with individual talent to set goals for their overall careers and that may include the consistency with which they stream, upload videos, or post on socials," Salamone said. Both games center around the same core concept: 100 people fighting to the death in an ever-shrinking island.Beyond the two games competing for players, devotees of each are debating which is the better game, and the number one argument is related to skill.The argument goes something like this: Since "PUBG" is more focused on shooting, and intends to more seriously model real shooting, it's the more difficult game to play. "Fortnite," in this argument, is the watered-down, "for babies" version of "PUBG."Twitch streaming star Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, the guy who's <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ninja-tyler-blevins-twitch-subscribers-fortnite-drake-youtube-2018-3">making at least $500K every month streaming "Fortnite" for thousands of people</a>, disagrees."A lot of people are like, 'PUBG' requires so much more skill because there's no building," Blevins said on a recent episode of <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s12qaVEyW14">the H3 Podcast</a>. He breaks down the situation as such:"If someone in 'PUBG' sees you from a mile away with a 15x scope, they can hide in a building and kill you. It's not difficult to shoot a gun and hit somebody. Gun skill is never the main reason why someone is talented at a game. It's literally their decision making."Both "Fortnite" and "PUBG" follow the same formula of pitting 100 players against each other on an island that's shrinking in size.
