<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right"><div class="image"><p class="source"><span><a href="https://www.lytro.com/#lytro-illum-light-field-engine-2.0">Lytro</a></span></p></div><p></p></div>Lytro unveiled its second generation camera, the $1,499 Illum, which builds on the success of its predecessor but adds a higher resolution and more flexible features.</p>
<p>The original Lytro camera was a little rectangular object that took square photos. It looked neat, but the design wasn't great for taking photos. </p>
<p>The<a href="https://www.lytro.com/#lytro-illum-light-field-engine-2.0"> Illum</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> gives photographers more flexibility than the former version. The newer model is much larger than the older model, and looks more like a standard DSLR.</span></p>
<p>There's also a four-inch touchscreen that allows you to adjust the "center of focus" for the final version of your photo. </p>
<p>The price of the Lytro is pretty high. It will ultimately cost $1,599. If you preorder before July, then it's $1,499. The best rated DSLR cameras sell for $700-$1,100. </p>
<p>While it's easy to scoff at the Lytro's high price, a chart from GfK Group (<a href="https://twitter.com/BenedictEvans/status/458369024439492608/photo/1">via Twitter</a>) shows that in 2013, premium camera sales began to catch up to point-and-shot camera sales. For the previous four years, point-and-shoot camera sales had far outpaced premium camera sales.  </p>

<p>The problem for Lytro is that its main selling point, photos that can refocus, has been copied by Samsung and HTC. Therefore, it's hard to imagine shelling out for a Lytro unless the camera is significantly better than the best DSLR. </p>

Most of us have grown up hearing the adage, ‘old is gold’, but <keyword id="114355" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Nikon">Nikon</keyword> has not only taken it seriously, the multinational is basking in the glory of vintage wonders. We have seen some retro looking mirrorless cameras from <keyword id="11151" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Olympus">Olympus</keyword> in the past and it was about time that someone came with a retro <keyword id="180940" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="DSLR">DSLR</keyword>.The designers at Nikon research and development built a full frame camera called DF (Digital Fusion), which is somewhat of a blast from the past.<br />
<br />
<strong>Design</strong><br />
TajMahal wasn’t built in a day, nor was this beautiful offering from Nikon. It took more than four years to design DF and bring it to the consumers. The look of the camera right out of the groovy 70s and 80s, a time when 35mm reels were a rage and people paid a premium to get colour paper images. One look at the front and top of this DSLR and you know that Nikon has managed to capture the retro look to the tee. With old school dials and a silver ring on the lens,it takes old-world charm and upgrades it with cool features.<br />
<br />
Turn the camera around and the vintage gives way to high-tech. The rear has a modern 3.2-inch LCD with all the needed buttons and the dials to preview images, manage internal setting and more. The top dials administer most things such as ISO, shooting modes and shutter release. It does take some amount of time to get accustomed to them, as they are very different from any other recent DSLR. To change modes one has to lift the dial and turn. Similarly, one has to press a button to change exposure and other settings.<br />
<br />
The DF is available in two colours black and silver and personally we found the silver one a little better. Also, this colour makes it look more like a camera from yesteryear.<br />
<br />
<strong>Performance</strong><br />
Now this is a sphere where the DF excels. Yes, the camera does not have video recording, which is kind of a ‘big oops’ from the company. But in their defence, they do want to keep the retro factor alive; this is perhaps why they did not give video functionality here. That said, however, DF is built for performance. With 16.2 mega pixels on board, combined with AF-S 50mm lens, this camera can take bright pictures. A little extra effort was required under the manual mode to get the settings right. But once done the outcome is superb.<br />
<br />
We managed to get sharp and vivid images indoors and outdoors. Macro shots were fabulous as well. Low-light was not a problem either. There is no flash on this camera, but ISO made up for it. We cranked the ISO to 3,200 and managed to get noise free images. For flash, users do get the flash shoe on this camera to attach an external flash. DF supports 5 FPS continuous shooting, which works nicely. Due to its weight, at times you do require the tripod to get the perfect shot.<br />
<br />
<strong>Verdict</strong><br /> We quite liked the camera till we read its <keyword id="459" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="price">price</keyword>. The <keyword id="2164865" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nikon-DF">Nikon DF</keyword> with its lens will set you back by Rs 1,99,995. This is a lot to pay for a camera that will demand you to read and memorise the manual first. Even after doing so one ends up rotating the wrong dial!<br />
<br />
But if you are one of those who do not mind spending a little extra to look different or rather hold something different with uncompromising image quality, then this is the camera for you. <br />

Review: Nikon DF Is A Brilliant New Yet Old DSLR In The
Market, But For A Price

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Light</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>At the end of the first season of the HBO tech comedy "Silicon Valley," the characters turn up at a conference where one CEO after another stands up on a stage and insists that their company is "making the world a better place." But the reasons these imaginary entrepreneurs give are intensely niche and jargon-filled, bordering on nonsensical.</p><p>That's a pretty good send-up of the real-life tech industry: Everyone insists they're changing the world. But true innovations - the smartphone, the global internet, self-driving cars - are uncommon signals in all that noise.</p><p>Rajiv Laroia is the rare technologist who can offer a compelling argument that his product carries that revolutionary potential. As the chief technology officer at a camera startup called Light, he's created a camera promising never-before-seen quality and functionality with a footprint small enough to fit (maybe a bit uncomfortably) in your pocket.</p><p>Light announced its first camera, the L16, back in October. Described rather obtusely in a press release as the "first multi-aperture computational camera," the small company nonetheless received so many pre-orders for a $1,699 camera still in its prototype stage that they had to shut down the pre-order program.</p><p>Asked in an interview if he thinks the L16 can compete with top-tier offerings from established companies like Nikon and Canon, Laroia laughs.</p><p>Light's VP of marketing Bradley Lautenbach clarifies: Because of their product, he says, in "five to ten years" the major camera brands will no longer exist.</p><h2>Cameras are better then ever, but they need to go</h2><p>I first heard about Light's L16 camera not from a press release but from Chicago wedding photographer <a href="http://www.mistywinter.com/">Misty Winter</a>. She'd worked in the industry for long enough to grow tired of hauling around two heavy Canon DSLRs and bags full of lenses everywhere she went.</p><p>After hearing rumors about an iPhone-sized device with optical zoom, wide-aperture lensing, and DSLR-like sensor quality, she told me she'd ditch her Canons as soon as she could get her hands on one. Riding in her passenger seat with my back aching after a day of hauling around heavy equipment, I privately doubted that day would come.</p><p>Serious photographers favor cameras with detachable lenses and physically large sensors - the sort that can only be found in large, professional DSLRs - because they offer a degree of control over image-making that you just can't find in smaller, cheaper devices. Purpose-built interchangable lenses offer exceptional quality with the option of wide apertures and shallow depths of field. And the width of a DSLR's sensor area produces an image closer to what you see with a human eye.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Rafi Letzter/Tech Insider</span></p><p class="caption"> A DSLR can produce an image at any focal length with wide dynamic range, excellent color, and shallow depth of field timed to a perfect moment. </p></div><p></p></div></div>Reproducing or beating that technology in a device as portable and convenient as a smartphone would have been the holy grail of camera design if it weren't so utterly implausible that no one was talking about it.</p><p>Until Light launched the L16 it seemed obvious that physics would prevent professional cameras from getting much smaller than they are. A 35-millimeter sensor requires large glass projecting far from its nose in order to properly focus light. Even now the loudest debate in high-end cameras is whether the bulky mirror mechanisms in DSLRs will ever give way to <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/the-best-kind-of-camera-for-newbies-2016-4">marginally lighter and thinner MILCs</a>.</p><p>But even as Light promises to leapfrog generations of professional camera design, Lautenbach says the company doesn't think much at all about photographers like Winter.</p><p>"Professionals represent a tiny sliver of the big pie in the camera market," he says. Instead, he says, Light's goal is to bring premium image-making capabilities to casual shooters used to the simple interface of a smartphone screen.</p><h2>How the L16 aims to do the impossible</h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table click-to-enlarge"><div><div class="image"><a title_source="Light" title_caption="An image from Light's gallery of photos from the L16." class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/571e6bcddd0895507f8b46d3-960/phonebooth1.jpg"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>Light</span></p><p class="caption">An image from Light's gallery of photos from the L16.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>The L16 collects light information from 16 different lenses and sensors mounted haphazardly on its back.</p><p>Five of those cameras shoot at 35mm and are roughly equivalent in design to those you'd find on the back of your phone. The other 11 have long 70mm- or 150mm-equivalent lenses, and involve some incredible innovation.</p><p>In order to shoot with such a long focal length without popping out the front of the device, each long lens lies flat across the L16 and collects light from mirrors set into the camera's body at 45-degree angles. The result is a folded lens, with its bulk stowed neatly and invisibly into the camera. The mirrors can also tilt to adjust the segment of the scene each sensor captures.</p><p>Depending on the focal length (zoom) the L16 is set to within its 35mm-150mm range, up to ten of the L16's eyes fire for a given shot. The camera records the light information and uses it to generate a single image.</p><p>Due to the wealth of information the camera collects, only zoom and shutter speed are determined at the moment of shooting. No journalist has, and its exact design and specs are not yet public. (We do know that it will lack certain features, like a hotshoe or port for flashes, that some photographers rely on.) But the example shots the company has released look promising, if a bit kit-lens-y.</p><p>Regardless of whether the L16 has the capacity to truly shoot like a top-of-the-line camera though, it seems almost certain that it represents the bleeding edge of a generational leap in photography at least as massive and disruptive as the one from film to digital.</p><h2>The L16 is just a first step</h2><p>Laroia and Lautenbach describe the L16 less as a blockbuster gadget than an industry-upending proof-of-concept. Whether the product crushes Nikon, Canon, and Sony sales or entirely flops, a functioning L16 on a Best Buy shelf would be a massive success. As long as Light can show computational photography cameras working in consumers hands, the L16's release will mark the beginning of the end both traditional cameras and traditional smartphones.</p><p>That's because the concept is scalable. Laroia says the L16 doesn't need all 16 of its eyes to function. The company has partnered with Foxconn, the massive faceless behemoth behind the manufacture of the world's iPhones, iPads, Kindles, Playstations, Huawei P9s and countless other devices.</p><p>Lautenbach says he can't say exactly how the consumer giant will use Light's technology in smartphones, but hints at some major difference from what consumers are used to.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><p class="source"><span>Rafi Letzter/Tech Insider</span></p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>"You'll start to see smartphones with two or three cameras," he says. (The LG G5 is a <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/why-the-lg-g5s-dual-camera-is-bad-2016-4">good example</a>.) But he says the first company to work with Light to include many more than that on its smartphone will have a huge advantage. So while the iPhone 7 might have a <a href="http://www.techinsider.io/iphone-7-will-have-a-dual-lens-camera-2016-2">dual lens</a>, it's not crazy to think that iPhone 8 or 9 could have something closer to the L16's compound eyes.</p><p>An important caveat here: With about the length and width of an iPhone 6s Plus, a Snapdragon processor, Android, and a 5-inch touchscreen on the back, the L16 already strongly resembles a smartphone. But it's closer in thickness to a paperback serial novel. Unless smartphone makers decide to work against trend with future devices, it's likely that no mass-market smartphone will feature quite this level of functionality. However, it's extremely likely that capabilities once reserved for enthusiasts and professionals will proliferate to the general public through similar small, high-powered devices, including phones.</p><p>As for the premium photography market, Lautenbach and Laroia seem less interested in directly competing there. They say they're confident their product and its descendants will make big cameras impractical for most consumers. Unlike previous years, when the Pro was clearly more updated than lesser models, the basic <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apples-iphone-16-heres-what-we-know-ai-battery-i2024-7">iPhone 16</a> has more notable upgrades. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>We can review new devices when they're first launched, and their performance can generally be predicted from their specs. But specs only tell part of the story.</p><p>Samsung's latest flagship device, the Galaxy S6, has been out for about a month and a half, and it's one of the most highly rated phones out there. Most consider it to be the best Android phone in the world.</p><p>Here's what it's actually like to use from a real life owner's perspective.</p><p><strong>Design</strong></p><p>Samsung has refreshed its design philosophy from tacky fake chrome edges and plastic/faux-leather textures on previous Galaxy phones to a more refined, sophisticated glass and metal build for the Galaxy S6. I got the white version, which looks and feels premium and does a much better job at justifying its $650 price tag than the previous phones that felt like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chocolate-kinder-surprise-eggs-toys-2015-4">toys inside Kinder Eggs</a>.</p><p>But now that the S6 has sleek, smooth aluminum edges, it feels like it wants to slip out of my hands on a one-way trip to a hard floor. So how do you remedy that? With a cheap plastic $20 case that hides any indication that your S6 is made with premium materials, or that it's an S6 at all since most Galaxy phones look pretty similar from the front.</p><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div></strong><strong style="line-height: 1.5em;">Performance</strong></p><p>Samsung packed some pretty powerful hardware into the S6, and it feels like it for the most part. Performance is largely quick and smooth, animations rarely stutter, and I can switch between apps and scroll down contact lists, and websites pretty smoothly.</p><p>Occasionally, however, I'll wake my phone from sleep and it won't be able to unlock for about four to five seconds because of some sort of bottleneck with the hardware. That might not sound like much, but it's not something you'd expect from a brand new phone with some of the most powerful specs commercially available that's just stripped you of $650 or more.</p><p>It's also not very good for super fast smartphone typists as the S6 lags behind what you're typing, especially when auto-correcting or guessing what you're typing, which it does terribly anyway. I would suggest immediately downloading an alternative, like the Google Keyboard.</p><p>The fingerprint sensor is excellent and you no longer have any excuse to leave your phone without some sort of security measure because entering the passcode was too cumbersome. It registers my thumb prints quickly and accurately and I can get to my apps just as easily as swiping the lock screen to unlock it. Eventually, I'll be able to use the fingerprint sensor with Samsung Pay, Samsung's answer to Apple Pay that launches this summer.</p><p><strong>Samsung's Android</strong></p><p>Think of Android as a basic salad and Samsung as a chef. TouchWiz is the extra software Samsung uses to "skin" the basic version of Android made by Google. In years past, TouchWiz was a heavy hodgepodge of toppings added by a Samsung chef that ruined a perfectly good Android salad into an unrecognizable, cluttered mess.</p><p>Samsung adds its TouchWiz skin over Android to differentiate itself from other Android phones, but it was too cartoony and cluttered in the past. For the S6, it's dialed down its latest version of TouchWiz to look more sophisticated and less cluttered.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div>You'll still find silly traces like "Wi-Fi Connected to Network XYZ" banner in the notification shade, which is completely unnecessary and will drive notification perfectionists mad because you can't swipe it away like you do with other notifications. In typical TouchWiz fashion, there's no way to remove it, either.</p><p>Most Samsung apps can be disabled, but some keep running alongside Android to run the TouchWiz interface, which uses up the phone's resources and slows it down. Overall, it's a step in the right direction, but I still prefer Google's basic version of Android.</p><p><strong><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div>Display</strong></p><p>The S6 has the sharpest display there is on a smartphone at the moment, and it looks gorgeous. It's pleasingly bright and one of the only TouchWiz features I like lets you change the color scheme for a natural, warmer, cooler, or colorful display.</p><p><strong>Battery</strong></p><p>This one isn't Samsung's fault.</p><p>I experienced the same questionable battery life that many Galaxy S6 owners were reporting. Since I was getting only slightly better battery life than with my old Nexus 5, I was about to put the S6 back in its box and ship it back to wherever it came from.</p><p>Before I did that, I tried one last thing. I switched off Google Now, Google's digital assistant, and my battery life skyrocketed to last me about 36 hours on a single charge with relatively decent usage, including music streaming. I charge it every night, but I usually have around 50% battery left before I go to bed.</p><p>Google Now used to periodically activate my GPS antenna to gather my location and it forced my phone to process the information for the Google Now updates. I somewhat miss Google Now, but not that much, and it's a problem I'd likely experience with any smartphone.</p><p><strong>Camera</strong></p><p>The S6 takes fantastic pictures. The camera app can be pulled up quickly enough with a double tap of the home button and I've rarely missed a moment I wanted to capture. It offers myriad options like panorama, slow or fast motion, selective focus, and pro mode (for more DSLR-style control over your shots) in a convenient menu when you swipe right.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table center"><div><div class="image"></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>There's a "Virtual shot" mode that takes multiple pictures around a still object to create a cool surrounding effect, but it's mostly for novelty and has few uses because it's difficult to take stable surround shots without some sort of camera tripod.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>I wish I didn't have to use a grippy plastic rubber case with the S6 because it mutes the newfound beauty of Galaxy smartphones, but I don't want to drop it and potentially shatter the screen or dent the metal edges, either.</p><p>Samsung could have kept using plastic for its phones and still had a premium design. Take my old Nexus 5, for example, it wasn't quite as "pretty" as the S6 since it was made of plastic, but it's still one of the best looking and best feeling phones I've ever owned. And it absorbed drops like a tank.</p><p>Overall, the Galaxy S6 is a great phone despite Samsung's insistence to keep its heavy TouchWiz layer that helps slows everything down. To be fair, it's been dialed back enough that it's not too offensive, and the slowdowns are quite rare. What it's like using the best Android phone in the world for a month

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sarah Jacobs/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">The Samsung Galaxy Note 8.</p></div><p></p></div></div>You have your work cut out for you if you want to upgrade your smartphone this fall.</p><p>Between <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/apple-iphone-8-rumors-photos-renderings-reports-2017-7">Apple</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/lg-v30-hands-on-first-impressions-specs-photos-2017-8">LG</a>, Samsung, and even startups like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/review-the-essential-phone-is-a-superb-smartphone-2017-8">Essential</a>, you're going to have a bunch of great-looking, premium phones to choose from.</p><p>Samsung's latest is the Galaxy Note 8, which launches on September 15. Like its predecessors, the Note 8 packs in the best of what Samsung has to offer: the biggest screen, the most power, and advanced features like split-screen multitasking and stylus input. And unlike last year's model, Samsung promises the Note 8 has gone through rigorous safety checks to ensure the battery won't overheat. (I didn't have any problems on that front over the last week, for what it's worth.)</p><p>The Note 8 comes at a heavy price though. It starts at $930, and can go for as much as $960 depending on your carrier.</p><p>You have to pay a premium if you want the best of the best these days.</p><h2>Hardware and design</h2><p>The Note 8 looks kind of like a stretched-out version of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-review-2017-4">Galaxy S8 from earlier this year</a>. It has a slightly larger 6.3-inch curved display, a new dual-lens camera system, and more RAM. Think of it as a souped-up version of the phone Samsung delivered a few months ago.</p><p>It also follows the budding trend of cramming as much screen on the front of the phone as possible, so you get more display on a device that has the almost the same physical footprint you're used to in older phones. Samsung calls this its Infinity Display, and it's quickly becoming the standard for high-end phones.</p><p>All that screen gives the Note 8 a stunning look. Samsung has always made the best smartphone displays, and this one is no exception. My only complaint is that the aspect ratio makes the screen feel a bit too "tall" to me, making it awkward to use one-handed or fit in my pocket. But videos also look incredible on this thing.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sarah Jacobs/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">The Note 8 has wireless charging.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Big screens also mean there's no room for a home button, which comes with its own set of challenges.</p><p>The Note 8 now has a digital home button that appears in a bar at the bottom of your screen. The fingerprint sensor has been moved to the back of the phone, and you also have the option to unlock the device with an iris scanner, facial recognition with the front-facing camera, or a passcode. The iris scanner works pretty well, but you have to be staring at your phone at the proper distance for it to work. It's fast, but not entirely reliable. Iris scanning doesn't always work if you're wearing glasses or holding the phone at an angle, for example. Facial recognition works fine, but as Samsung admits, it's not as secure as the iris or fingerprint scanner. In fact, someone was recently able to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-galaxy-note-8-facial-recognition-tricked-with-a-photo-2017-9">trick it with a photograph</a>. Samsung shouldn't even allow a method this insecure as an option to unlock your phone.</p><p>Besides the size, the biggest thing that sets the Note 8 apart is the camera system. Like the iPhone 7 Plus, the Note 8 has two cameras on the back for enhanced photos. That means you can use a 2x optical zoom, which won't distort your photos as much as the digital zoom on single-lens cameras. It also lets you take portrait-style photos where the subject is in focus and the background is blurred. It's similar to the effect you see on high-end DSLR cameras and the iPhone 7 Plus.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sarah Jacobs/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">The dual-lens camera lets you take portrait photos and use 2x optical zoom. (The glass back also smudges like crazy.)</p></div><p></p></div></div>But unlike the iPhone 7 Plus, the Note 8 lets you adjust the blur effect before or after you take a shot with a handy slider tool at the bottom of the screen. In my tests, portrait shooting wasn't perfect though. I found that conditions have to be just right to get a perfect photo, since a lot of the work is done with software, not just the dual camera lenses. If your subject isn't the right distance from the camera and the background, the blur effect can bleed into the person you're taking a picture of. (I've had similar issues shooting portraits on the iPhone 7 Plus, for what it's worth.)</p><p>Other than that, the Note 8 has the same features found in the last few Samsung phones, including wireless charging, water resistance, and expandable memory. And if you pre-order the phone before the September 15 launch, Samsung will throw in a free wireless charging pad and 128GB memory card. That's a really good deal.</p><h2>Software </h2><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sarah Jacobs/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">You can run two apps at once in split-screen mode.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>When it comes to the software side of the Galaxy Note 8, it's the same story we've seen for the last few generations of Samsung phones. The company has perfected design and performance, but still struggles to pack in innovative software that rivals what you find from Apple and Google. It's not terrible, and it's definitely not a deal breaker. It's just a step behind the rest.</p><p>The latest example is Bixby, Samsung's new digital assistant that launched earlier this summer. Bixby is so ingrained in the Note 8 that it even has a dedicated launch button on the left side of the phone. But <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/samsung-bixby-galaxy-s8-2017-7">as I've written before</a>, Bixby feels half baked compared to Google Assistant and Siri. There were many times it didn't understand what I said, and many of my queries just dumped me into a Google search instead of bringing me the answer I wanted. Even Siri is better than that.</p><p>Bixby should get better over time as more people use it and Samsung teaches it to do more. But for now, you're better off using Google Assistant, which also ships with the Note 8.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sarah Jacobs/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">Samsung's Bixby assistant needs a lot of work.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p>I also recommend getting the unlocked model of the Note 8 if you can. It runs a cleaner version of the operating system without all the apps from carriers that can clunk things up. Plus, you're likely to get software updates faster than you would if you bought the phone through your carrier.</p><p>Like I said, none of this is a deal breaker. The operating system runs just fine for the most part, and you can still use all the great Google apps and services, just like you can on any other Android phone. Plus there are a few nice additions from Samsung, like split-screen app multitasking and a new feature for the S Pen called Live Message, which lets you create a library of animated messages and doodles that you can text or share with any device.</p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Sarah Jacobs/Business Insider</span></p><p class="caption">Samsung's S Pen stylus lets you draw and write on the screen.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><h2>Conclusion</h2><p>You have a tough choice to make. Samsung has a lineup of three excellent phones - the S8, S8+, and Note 8. And within a couple months, you can expect similar offerings from Apple, LG, and Google. If you can wait a few weeks to make your decision, then hold off.
