"The settlement will put an end to all open judicial proceedings," the joint statement dated May 26 read. As a next step, they have already taken steps to withdraw all oppositions against each other in the trademark registry which will help them to proceed with the registration of their respective marks. BharatPe and PhonePe amicably settle all trademark disputes over 'Pe' suffix

The government's Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) platform will democratise e-commerce for millions of small retailers in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>, paving the way for the rise of more dedicated distribution and logistics companies, Infosys Chairman and Co-founder <keyword id="44604" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nandan-nilekani" source="Orion">Nandan Nilekani</keyword> said on Tuesday. According to him, ONDC will not be limited to a few players but everyone in India - a person owning a small grocery store, a small electronics retailer or a restaurant owner - bringing millions of such people to the e-commerce marketplace and buyers will come from any consumer app. "Today, India has achieved financial inclusion in about seven-eight years with homegrown technologies like Aadhaar, UPI, QR code and more. ONDC to foster hyperlocal ecommerce business model in India: Nandan Nilekani

<ul><li>More than 74.05 billion transactions worth ₹126 lakh crore were processed through <keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword> in 2022. </li><li>The increase in the usage of QR codes has led to a rise in UPI transactions, with the number of transactions via QR codes reaching 237 million in December 2022. </li><li>Debit card transactions have shown a consistent decline throughout 2022, likely due to the increasing popularity of UPI transactions.</li></ul>Indians are increasingly choosing to pay digitally with transactions via debit, credit, prepaid cards and UPI amounting to ₹149.5 lakh crore in value and 88 billion in volume in 2022, as per a Worldline report. A lion’s share of these transactions occurred via UPI (Unified Payments Interface) – accounting for ₹126 lakh crore, over 74.05 billion transactions in 2022. UPI transactions grew 91% in volume and rose 76% in value over the year before. “I am amazed every day to see the incredible progress we have made in the <keyword id="6358577" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payments" source="Orion">digital payments</keyword> ecosystem over the past few years. On the other hand, banks have increased the number of credit cards by 18% indicating an increased appetite for higher-ticket transactions. “The volume and value of transactions done on credit cards has seen a steady uptick through the year. In 2022, the Bharat Bill Payment Central Unit (BBPCU) processed a total of 985.7 million transactions with a total value of ₹1.70 lakh crore. This represents a growth rate of 75% in volume and 83% in value compared to the year 2021. Also in 2022, the AePS recorded a significant volume of over 2.63 billion transactions with a total value of ₹3.42 lakh crore. This represents a growth rate of approximately 24% in volume and 20% in value compared to the year 2021. AePS is a bank-led model that enables online interoperable financial inclusion transactions at point of sale (microATM) through the business correspondent of any bank using Aadhaar authentication.

PhonePe moves domicile from Singapore to India

About 75% of the overall insurance purchases came from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, which according to PhonePe showcases the wide adoption of its offerings in non-metros cities and towns across India. Four in five insurance policies were bought by users with expired covers, the company added. “We aim to double down on this early momentum to drive insurance adoption in the country in line with the IRDAI’s [Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India] vision of insurance for all by 2047, while working closely with our insurance partners to make insurance products simple, affordable and accessible to all,” Prannay Batra, head of general insurance at PhonePe, said. PhonePe launched car and bike insurance — in partnership with Bajaj Allianz General Insurance — in October 2021. The company allows its users to avail insurance without the need for any documents to be uploaded before the purchase and also view their policy documents instantly on the app. PhonePe users can avail the policy through the ‘My Money’ section of the digital payments app available on Android and iOS. The insurance products are listed under the insurance section. The Walmart-owned fintech startup has over 385 million registered — representing nearly one in four Indians. PhonePe sold a million two-wheeler insurance policies in less than 9 months

Post the completion of the separation, PhonePe is now a fully India-domiciled company. To recall, PhonePe moved its registered office from Singapore to India in October. “Setting up these businesses as separate entities will also provide value and create new opportunities for investors to participate in the Indian tech ecosystem – helping unlock and maximize enterprise value for shareholders of the two companies,” the companies said. The separation comes at a time when PhonePe is in talks to raise funds at a valuation of close to $13 billion, according to a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-12-08/walmart-s-payments-startup-phonepe-seeks-to-raise-1-billion">Bloomberg report</a>. If it succeeds, it would become the most-valued fintech startup in India. The company had raised $700 million in 2020, led by Walmart and existing investors, including Tiger Global, at a valuation of $5.5 billion. While media reports earlier suggested that PhonePe was planning an IPO, the company’s founder and CEO Sameer Nigam in June 2022 dismissed the reports, saying, “PhonePe is not planning an IPO right now. We are focusing on building our business, and will go public once our core businesses turn profitable and our new initiatives have achieved a good product-market fit and scale,” according to a PTI report. As part of the separation of the two companies, the existing shareholders of Flipkart Singapore and PhonePe Singapore, led by Walmart, have taken up equity directly in PhonePe India. Walmart will continue to be the largest shareholder of PhonePe and Flipkart, according to the statement. “We are looking forward to the next phase of our growth as we invest in new businesses – like insurance, wealth management and lending, while also enabling the next wave of growth for UPI payments in India. This will help propel our vision to provide billions of Indians with financial inclusion,” said Nigam in the statement. Flipkart and PhonePe complete separation six years after acquisition

This is in line with the general trend of transactions of high-ticket items moving from the physical to the digital space,” Worldline said. In terms of value, consumers transacted ₹1,226.29 billion at POS terminals and ₹2,053.66 billion at e-commerce through credit cards in the second quarter. In Q2 2022, debit card transactions volume and value stood at 973.12 million and ₹1.91 trillion respectively. Prepaid cards transaction volume and value was 412.29 million and ₹206.36 billion respectively. When it comes to mobile payments, the number of transactions through mobile wallets was 1.52 billion and the value was ₹574.64 billion. Transactions through wallets are growing steadily recording a 38% increase in volume and 27% in value when compared to Q2 2021, revealed Worldline data. National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) processed about 829 million transactions worth ₹129 billion. As of March 2022, about 52.9 million NETC FASTags have been issued since the inception of the NETC program. Aadhaar-Enabled Payment Service transactions recorded a substantial volume of over 679 million transactions, registering about 38% growth over Q2 2021. UPI is India’s favourite payment mode with transactions worth ₹30.4 trillion in April-June, says report

Decacorn fintech firm <keyword id="6357886" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="phonepe" source="Orion">PhonePe</keyword> has received an additional USD 100 million from <keyword id="6375561" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="general-atlantic" source="Orion">General Atlantic</keyword> during its ongoing fundraise round of USD 1 billion at a pre-money valuation of USD 12 billion, the company said on Wednesday. With this fresh funding, the <keyword id="80487" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="walmart" source="Orion">Walmart</keyword> group firm has raised USD 750 million till date. "PhonePe confirms a USD 100 million additional tranche of investment from General <keyword id="44121" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="atlantic" source="Orion">Atlantic</keyword>, a leading global growth equity firm, and its co-investors as part of our ongoing fundraise. General Atlantic initially invested USD 350 million in PhonePe in January 2023," PhonePe said in a statement. PhonePe gets additional USD 100 million fund from General Atlantic

Payments made via Unified Payments Interface (UPI) reported a 45% yearly growth, according to data from the National Payment Corporation of <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> (<keyword id="19998946" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NPCI" source="keywords">NPCI</keyword>). The value of transactions also saw a growth of over 35%, totaling Rs 20.64 trillion. This marks the third consecutive month when total transactions exceeded Rs 20 trillion. In June 2024, the total UPI transaction value was Rs 20.07 trillion, while in May it was Rs 20.44 trillion. NPCI data also showed that the average daily transaction value through UPI in July 2024 was Rs 466 million, or about Rs 66,590 crore. Compared with June, the volume of <keyword id="19957378" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="UPI-transactions" source="keywords">UPI transactions</keyword> grew by 3.95% in July, while the value of transactions increased by 2.84%. In the first four months of the current fiscal year (2024-25), UPI recorded transactions amounting to Rs 80.79 trillion, across approximately 55.66 billion transactions. In 2023-24, total UPI transactions were 131 billion, compared to 84 billion in 2022-23. The monthly bulletin of the <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) reported that over the last four years, UPI transactions have seen a ten-fold increase in volume, from 12.5 billion transactions in 2019-20 to 131 billion transactions in 2023-24, which accounts for 80% of the total digital payment volumes. Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions experienced substantial growth, increasing by 57% year-on-year in FY24. Within this segment, PhonePe and Google Pay dominated, holding a combined market share of 86%, according to the Boston Consulting Group's (BCG) Banking Sector Roundup for 2023-24. A shift in <keyword id="19989657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-payments" source="keywords">digital payments</keyword> was noted, with credit card transactions doubling over the past three years. In contrast, debit card transactions declined by 43% year-on-year. By making digital payment platform technology and device agnostic, UPI has contributed to <keyword id="20377974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="financial-inclusion" source="keywords">financial inclusion</keyword> at the grassroots level. Digital payments in India are hitting fresh highs, as citizens increasingly adopt emerging modes of online transactions. One key emphasis of the Indian government has been to ensure that the benefits of UPI are not limited to India alone; other countries, too, can benefit from it. UPI is India's mobile-based fast payment system, which facilitates customers to make round-the-clock payments instantly using a Virtual Payment Address (VPA) created by the customer. The share of UPI in digital payments in India has reached close to 80% in 2023. Today, India accounts for nearly 46% of the world's digital transactions, based on 2022 data.

This will come as a huge relief to apps such as PhonePe and Google Pay that currently dominate the market. According to data from NPCI, PhonePe and Google Pay accounted for nearly 47% and 34% of transactions respectively in April 2022, meaning the two apps enjoy a market share of over 80%. Paytm, which dominated the payments market before the introduction of UPI is third with a market share of 15%. According to the above report, the implementation of guidelines has been delayed in order to prevent disruption of services and issues to users. "There is no choice but to consider this actively. They (NPCI) are wary of disrupting users and in effect slowing down UPI growth," said the source to ET. WhatsApp, which recently received approval to onboard more users is yet to make a dent in the market and NPCI is hoping players like Paytm and WhatsApp help in reducing the market share of the dominant apps to prevent a monopoly or duopoly in the market. “While there is still some time (six months) to go before the end of the deadline but unless a player dramatically rises to disrupt the market, a delay in the said rule is being considered," sources added. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Here’s how the market cap guidelines work" comment="subhead" text="Here’s how the market cap guidelines work">Here’s how the market cap guidelines work</cmsannotation> The market cap guidelines are based on the transactions done on the app each month and are not concerned with the number of users. If a company crosses the 25% transactions limit, NPCI will issue an alert to the company and a second alert will be sent if the app crosses the 27% threshold and they will have to outline the steps being taken by them to adhere to the 30% limit. If any app crosses the 30% threshold, customers will not be able to make more transactions on the app. This seems very impractical as the current market share shows that PhonePe and Google Pay are being preferred by the users and if we assume that the current trend will continue, around 20% of the transactions will decline. colour option that comes with a glass back and a Silk Blue colour option that offers a back panel with a plastic composite sheet. I tested the Velvet Red colour option. The Vivo V30e comes with a dual-tone finish, with one portion offering a matte finish and one portion offering a glossy finish. The device does not attract any fingerprint smudges, making it possible to use it without a case. However, the device is a bit slippery, so I recommend using it with a case to ensure it does not slip out of your hand. The camera module also includes the Aura Ring Light which is circular. The Vivo V30e comes with curved edges that allow you to hold the phone easily. You won’t face any issues, whether you are gaming or just browsing social media. <h2>Software and performance</h2>The Vivo V30e runs on Android 14 out of the box with the company’s Funtouch OS 14 on top. The device will get three years of Android updates and four years of security updates. The software support offered by the company is decent for this segment. The V30e has its fair share of bloatware. This includes applications like Amazon, Snapchat, PhonePe, Facebook, LinkedIn and more. While these applications can be uninstalled, the V-Appstore, which is the company’s own app store also sends notifications for app recommendations. In terms of performance, the Vivo V30e is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset coupled with 8GB LPDDR5X of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. While the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset is not a very powerful one, it offers decent performance in this segment. The device can handle multitasking easily. I played Call of Duty: Mobile on the device and it was able to handle the game smoothly, without any stutters. The smartphone is powered by a 5,500mAh battery with 44W fast charging support. The large battery ensures that you do not have to worry about running out of juice during the day. With regular usage, you can get up to two days of battery life out of the device. <h2>Camera</h2>The Vivo V30e comes with a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 50MP primary camera with a Sony IMX882 sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. While the Aura Light helps in capturing decent images even in low light conditions, the device sometimes takes a bit longer to capture the images. The device is equipped with a 50MP selfie camera, which captures good selfies in daylight and low-light conditions. The front camera also supports 4K video recording, making it a good option for content creators. <h2>Verdict</h2>The Vivo V30e is a decent smartphone that comes with a slightly different design, decent hardware and a large battery. Its sleek design and vibrant display make it a good option in this segment. Initially, only RuPay credit card users will be able to link their card to their UPI account. Users having a credit card from Visa and Mastercard will have to wait a bit longer to link it with UPI. While RBI’s decision to allow credit cards to be linked to UPI is aimed at making payments easier for card holders, established UPI apps like PhonePe and Google Pay could reap the rewards. Not just this, analysts at Macquarie believe that this could also benefit established credit providers like SBI Cards, lowering their costs and increasing credit card acceptance by several magnitudes. “There are only 6 million card accepting point of sale machines in India vs ~50 million merchants accepting UPI payments. A credit card user on an average spends over ₹14,500 per month per card, which is 21 times more than the ₹692 per month per card spent by debit card users. “The decision to introduce credit cards, starting with RuPay, on the UPI platform will not only boost the number and overall quantum of transactions, but it will widen the customer base as more and more credit card holders are likely to transact through UPI,” Raj Khosla, founder, MyMoneyMantra told Business Insider India.
