The price of S-Presso LXI Petrol has been reduced by Rs 2,000 and the price of Alto K10 VXI Petrol has been reduced by Rs 6,500, the auto major said in a regulatory filing. The Alto K10 range is priced from Rs 3.99 lakh and Rs 5.96 lakh while the S-Presso trims are tagged between Rs 4.26 lakh and Rs 6.11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In August, sales of the company's mini segment cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, declined to 10,648 units last month as against 12,209 units a year ago. The reduction in prices might be aimed at boosting sales ahead of the festive season. As per reports, dealers currently have a huge amount of inventory. On June 22, <keyword id="19956758" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-Minister" source="keywords">Finance Minister</keyword> Nirmala Sitharaman said that the next meeting of the GST Council will take place in mid to late August. The aim of this meeting will be to discuss the pending issues of the last meeting. The council is expected to discuss rate rationalisation and compliance, among others. The GST Council, consisting of the Union Finance Minister and representatives from all States and Union Territories, was established to make decisions on various aspects of GST, including <keyword id="20452955" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-rates" source="keywords">tax rates</keyword>, exemptions, and administrative procedures. It played a crucial role in shaping the GST framework in India. The last meeting of the GST Council was held on 22 June 2024 this year. During the meeting, the council recommended relaxation to taxation, Input Tax Credit (ITC) claims and demand notices. The GST Council proposes exemptions for specific services offered by Indian Railways to the general public, as well as for intra-railway transactions. To curb government litigation, the Council has recommended setting monetary thresholds for filing appeals by departments: Rs 20 lakh for the GST appellate tribunal, Rs 1 crore for high courts, and Rs 2 crore for the Supreme Court. In a move to assist small taxpayers, the Council, in its last meeting, extended the deadline for furnishing returns from April 30 to June 30 for the fiscal year 2024-25 and subsequent years. The Council, in its last meeting, recommended the phased rollout of biometric-based Aadhaar authentication for GST registration applicants across India. The Council recommended a uniform GST rate of 12 per cent on all milk cans, regardless of their material (steel, iron, or aluminium), to eliminate disputes. 54th GST Council meeting to take place on September 9 in New Delhi

India slashes windfall tax on crude petroleum

Post the move, the Opposition parties in Delhi have been urging the AAP-led state government to cut VAT on petrol by at least ₹10 per litre. "We listen to feedback from drivers and understand that the current rise in fuel prices is causing concern. To help cushion drivers from the impact of the spike in fuel prices, Uber has raised trip fares in Delhi NCR by 12%,” Nitish Bhushan, Head of Central Operations, Uber India said in a statement. “Over the coming weeks, we will continue to track fuel price movements and will take further steps as needed,” Bhushan added. Currently, the petrol and diesel prices in Delhi are ₹105.41 and ₹96.67 respectively. On the other hand, the prices in Mumbai are ₹120.51 and ₹104.77 respectively. In addition to protesting against Uber, drivers in several parts of the country have started a “No AC” <a href="https://telanganatoday.com/cab-drivers-in-hyderabad-to-charge-extra-for-ac-amid-rising-fuel-prices">campaign</a>, wherein they will not turn on the air conditioner in the car and inform the rider about the reason. Further, riders will be given an option to pay an additional amount to turn on the air conditioner. “As AC runs on fuel and it is so expensive right now, it is difficult for us to run the air conditioner at this price. That is why we decided to charge an additional fee for using the air conditioner in the taxis,” a member of the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union said in a statement. Uber announces a 12% price hike for cab rides in Delhi as petrol, diesel prices skyrocket

The price of petrol in Delhi fell to ₹103.97 a litre at 6 a.m. on Thursday (November 4) and diesel prices fell by a bigger margin to ₹86.67 a litre in the national capital. Indian government has cut duties on petrol and diesel and other BJP-ruled states follow suit

The prices of petrol and diesel rose simultaneously again on Tuesday amidst volatility in the global <keyword id="6354418" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="oil-prices" source="Orion">oil prices</keyword> with benchmark crude increasing to above $80 a barrel. Accordingly, diesel prices increased by 30 paisa per litre in the national capital to ₹91.07 per litre, while petrol rates rose by 25 paisa per litre to ₹102.64 a litre, according to <keyword id="6356834" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-oil-corporation" source="Orion">Indian Oil Corporation</keyword>, the country's largest fuel retailer. Diesel prices have now increased on nine out of the last 12 days taking up its retail price by ₹2.45 per litre in Delhi. Diesel prices were raised on Friday by 20 paisa per litre and again by 25 paisa per litre each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday last week and by 30 paisa per litre on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. And again by 30 paisa per litre on Tuesday. Petrol prices had maintained stability since September 5 but oil companies finally raised its pump prices this week given a spurt in the product prices lately. Petrol prices have also risen on six of the previous eight days taking up its primo price by ₹1.45 per litre. OMCs had preferred to maintain their watch prices on global oil situation before making any revision in prices. This is the reason why petrol prices were not revised for last three weeks. But extreme volatility in global oil price movement has now pushed OMCs to effect the increase. In Mumbai, the <keyword id="44886" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Petrol-price" source="Orion">petrol price</keyword> rose by 25 paisa per litre to over ₹108.67 per litre, while diesel rates increased close to ₹98.80 a litre. Across the country as well, petrol and diesel increased between 20-30 paisa per litre but their retail rates varied depending on the level of local taxes. Fuel prices in the country have been hovering at record levels on account of 41 increases in its retail rates since April this year. It fell on few occasions but largely remained stable. After rising over three year high level of $80 a barrel earlier this week, global benchmark came down to $78 a barrel and now is again up to $81 a barrel while OPEC+ deciding to stick to its marginal production easing plan and market remaining tight. Since September 5, when both <keyword id="180255" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Petrol-and-diesel-prices" source="Orion">petrol and diesel prices</keyword> were revised, the price of petrol and diesel in the international market is higher by around $8-9 per barrel as compared to average prices during August. Under the pricing formula adopted by oil companies, rates of petrol and diesel are to be reviewed and revised by them on a daily basis. The new prices becomes effective from morning at 6 a.m. The daily review and revision of prices is based on the average price of benchmark fuel in the international market in the preceding 15-days, and foreign exchange rates. But, the fluctuations in global oil prices have prevented OMCs to follow this formula in totality and revisions are now being made with longer gaps. Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum have lost over 2 billion or ₹19,000 crore for holding up the new pumped prices for a straight four and a half months or 137 days since November due to a steep rise in oil prices in the international market, according to Moody’s Investor services. According to CRISIL Research, a hike of ₹15-20 per litre is required to fully pass the increase in international oil prices. “The pass-through of rising crude oil prices to domestic fuel prices is, therefore, inevitable, and further hikes can also be expected," rating firm CRISIL had said in a statement. India’s 85% of oil demand is dependent on imports, according to wire agency PTI.
