India's largest fintech company <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion">Paytm</keyword> saw its mandatory lock-in expiry end today, with 86 per cent of its shares becoming free to trade. Trends showed that the lock-in expiry had minimal or no impact on the company's share price, which was trading at Rs 637, down 0.2 per cent at 10:30 am. The company recently announced Q2 FY23 financials and posted a 76 per cent yearly growth in revenue to Rs 1,914 crore. Meanwhile, the company's losses were reduced by 11 per cent on a sequential basis. The company's contribution profit surged 224 per cent year-on-year to Rs 843 crore. Recently, in a shareholder letter, the founder and CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma, said: "We are now excited about the next year of our journey, as we get close to EBITDA profitability and free cash flow generation." In fact, brokerages like JP Morgan, and Goldman Sachs expect Paytm to achieve its breakeven target ahead of September 2023. On Monday, the company announced that it had disbursed 3.4 million loans in October, registering a yearly growth of 161 per cent. The value of total loans disbursed in October grew to Rs 3,056 Cr (USD 407 million, year-on-year growth of 387 per cent). Paytm's leadership in offline payments strengthened further with its total merchant subscription devices deployed increasing to 5.1 million. With its subscription-as-a-service model, the strong adoption of devices drives higher payment volumes, and subscription revenues, while increasing the funnel for merchant loan distribution. For October, the total merchant gross merchandise value processed through Paytm aggregated to Rs 1.18 lakh crore (USD 14 billion), marking a yearly growth of 42 per cent. Sharma, in his letter further wrote that the payment revolution continues in India, with merchants and users enthusiastically adopting digital payment technology. The government's incentives for <keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword> payments and merchants' adoption of its devices and subscription product, is making payments increasingly "monetizable and profitable" for the company. Talking about the company's rapidly growing lending business which is now at an annualised run rate of Rs 37,000 crore in the month of October, Sharma said, "In parallel, we are now scaling up lending distribution which can bring financial inclusion to hundreds of millions of people in our country." Paytm sees no impact from lock-in expiry, trends show heavy buying

The Indian government’s unified payments interface (<keyword id="6358921" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="upi" source="Orion">UPI</keyword>) was launched back in 2016, and it took the technology just about three years to cross a billion transactions. The technology is meant to simplify digital payments and make them more amenable to mobile phone users, and it has just done, for over five years now. On paper, UPI is meant to do the same thing that payments systems like National Electronic Funds Transfer (NEFT) or Immediate Payments Service (IMPS) do — send payments from one account to another, within the same bank or across banks. But UPI is much simpler, and doesn’t necessarily require you to access the bank’s app or online banking systems. It uses people’s UPI IDs and UPI PINs to complete electronic payments in real time. You can use the <keyword id="6357120" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="paytm" source="Orion">PayTM</keyword> UPI system to avoid using your bank’s platform. What is <keyword id="4003296" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="upi-id" source="Orion">UPI ID</keyword>? The UPI ID is your first entry into the UPI ecosystem. This is the ID you will share with others to receive payments, and the ID that you will use in order to send payments to others as well. Simplifying digital payments: Creating a UPI pin adds the layer of protection

The new regulations pertain to change in lock-in period of anchor investors, utilisation of IPO proceeds, restrictions on large shareholdings and a cap on sale of promoter shares via IPO. This comes after shares of several IPOs including Paytm and Zomato facing huge volatility after anchor investors sold shares right after their 30-day lock-in period leading to a huge fall in the share price. Note that the share sale by big institutional investors shakes investors’ confidence, which can lead to hasty selling by investors. Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is trying to prevent this by increasing the lock-in period to 90 days from 30 days. Anchor investors can only sell 50% of their holding after 30 days. Anchor investors are institutional investors who are allotted shares just before an IPO opens for subscription. The market regulator has also addressed the ongoing trend of promoters selling their entire stake in the company through IPO. When promoters of companies or rather startups that are not doing well financially sell their entire stake in the company, it is bound to shake investor confidence in the IPO. From now, shareholders with over 20% stake can sell only half of its shares through the IPO. Here are the key changes put forward by SEBI: <ul><li>New regulation restricts large shareholders (with more than 20% stake) from selling their entire stake in the company. Now they can only sell half of their overall shareholding.</li><li>Companies can only use 25% of the IPO proceeds for unidentified acquisitions in the draft red herring prospectus (DRHP). SEBI comes out with stringent norms to save IPO investors from losing big money

New Delhi, May 12 () Paytm Money on Tuesday said it has added National Pension System (NPS) to its app after approval from the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). "This new addition is expected to benefit investors by helping them save for their retirement while also enabling tax benefits," a statement said. In 2009, the 'All Citizen Model' in NPS was launched that allows any individual to enroll in NPS. Till date, 13 lakh investors have enrolled under the 'All Citizen Model', the statement said, adding that Paytm Money intends to increase this number manifold by enabling investments in NPS via a simple and quick digital investing experience. "In a country like India with its huge young working population, retirement planning needs to be simplified. We want to bring NPS investing to millions of Indians and help them build a retirement corpus. "It sits perfectly with our vision of democratising wealth management in India," Amit Nayyar, President (Financial Services) at Paytm, said. NPS, as an offering, also incentivises users to save additional taxes and hence, complements the wide range of existing tax-saver mutual funds on Paytm's platform, he added. According to WABetainfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp in Beta, the feature will be very helpful specifically for Pixel 4 users as the device comes without a fingerprint sensor and only supports facial recognition. Once the feature rolls out, the "fingerprint lock" settings will be renamed to the more general "biometric lock". The settings are likely to be based on Android's BiometricPrompt API, which allows apps to use biometric unlock for authentication. WhatsApp plans to step up security with face unlock support on Android

OTP delays should end as TRAI suspends its blockchain experiment for seven days

In case of unlisted securities, if the stock is sold within 24 months, it’s considered short term. The gains are added to the income of the person and taxed at a tax slab rate applicable to you. And if sold after 24 months, it is taxed as long term capital gains at 20% after indexation. However, remember unlisted shares are illiquid and volatile, so you may not be able to sell your shares in a hurry.
