We now collectively believe it's fabricated,” Troy Hunt said in a <a href="https://twitter.com/troyhunt/status/1552808334759043073">tweet</a>. Paytm, one of the largest wallet and payment services platforms, reportedly suffered a massive data breach in 2020. While the company has not accepted this, it had reportedly received a ransom demand after the data breach. Firefox Monitor, a security tracker by Mozilla that informs users if their mobile number or email has been compromised in a data breach, has today confirmed that Paytm suffered a data breach in 2020 and that data of over 3.4 million users has been discovered online. Update - Paytm has clarified the leak. “The data of our users is completely safe &amp; claims related to data leak in the year 2020 are completely false and unsubstantiated. A fake dump uploaded on the platform haveibeenpwned.com appears to wrongly alert of a data breach on Firefox browser. Paytm Mall breach data is fabricated, says Have I been Pwned founder Troy Hunt

<ul><li><keyword id="6357120" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm">Paytm</keyword> wrote a letter to the National Payments Corporation of <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> (NPCI) over concerns that <keyword id="2750705" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-Pay">Google Pay</keyword> is violating the rights of its customers.</li><li>The letter also accused <keyword id="6355629" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword> of abusing customer data for monetary gain through promotional and advertorial use. </li><li>Google, in response, stated that any individual UPI transactions data is not being used for monetisation of any kind.</li></ul>Not only did Paytm, the Indian online payments platform, <a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/google-pay-sharing-payments-data-with-group-firms-third-parties-paytm-118092001351_1.html">accuse Google Pay</a>, formerly known as Tez, of violating user’s data rights but also said that it’s using that information for monetary gain. Google did issue a, not so strong, response that begs the question of how far the accusations hold true. In the past, <keyword id="198636" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Shekhar-Sharma">Vijay Shekhar Sharma</keyword>, the CEO of Paytm, posed some serious <a href="https://www.facebook.com/cnbctv18india/videos/paytm-ceo-on-whatsapp-pay/1710237529013638/">accusations</a> against <keyword id="790242" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="WhatsApp">Whatsapp</keyword> in an interview with CNBC-TV18. This time he issued a letter to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) chief, Dilip Abse, over concerns how Google Pay is conducting business. In the past, Sharma had defended his views <a href="https://www.facebook.com/cnbctv18india/videos/paytm-ceo-on-whatsapp-pay/1710237529013638/">stating</a> that “It’s not all about being protectionist. Everyone should be allowed to play the field. But no one should arm twist and tweak rules to suit their design” The letter to NPCI The letter by Paytm highlights 3 separate areas where they think Google Pay isn’t abiding by Indian data laws. Their first concern is that user data is being used for monetary gain through promotional material since their privacy policy states that, ‘it collects, stores, uses and discloses their user’s personal data for advertising and promotional purposes’. They add this is particularly concerning since this data is also being disclosed to Google, group companies and other unnamed third parties. They point out that the data in question includes user’s navigations, logs and correspondence rosters. Paytm’s letter suggests that this brings the question of intent in to play. Google’s response Google response to Paytm’s accusations was mild at most. In a statement to <a href="https://www.medianama.com/2018/09/223-policy-wars-after-whatsapp-paytm-trains-its-guns-on-google-pay/">MediaNama</a>, the company said that a ‘common Google account’ ensures that checks are in place to manage risk, fraud, spam and other nuisances. These checks are, in turn, common across all Google products allowing for ‘seamlessness of service’.

The development comes after cyber-risk intelligence firm Cyble on August 30 wrote in a blog post that "John Wick" was able to upload a backdoor/Adminer on Paytm Mall application/website. The group gained unrestricted access to the entire databases of Paytm Mall, Cyble said in the blog post. "According to the messages forwarded to us by the source, the perpetrator claimed the hack happened due to an insider at Paytm Mall. The claims, however, are unverified, but possible," Cyble said. Paytm Mall said that the claims are "absolutely false". "We would like to assure that all users, as well as company data, is completely safe and secure. We invest heavily in our data security, as you would expect," a Paytm Mall spokesperson said in a statement. "We have been investigating the claims of a possible hack and data breach, and haven't found any security lapses yet. "We also have a Bug Bounty programme, under which we reward responsible disclosure of any security risks. We extensively work with the security research community and safely resolve security anomalies," the spokesperson said. The new facility will aim to drive product innovation, specifically in the areas of equity, mutual funds, and digital gold, the company said in a statement. The company is looking to hire 250 engineers across the front-end, backend as well as data scientists. Paytm Money set to hire 250 engineers for its new technology centre in Pune

New Delhi, May 26 () <keyword id="6357120" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm">Paytm</keyword> on Tuesday said it has partnered Vodafone Idea and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to allow <keyword id="1094150" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Feature-phone">feature phone</keyword> users to recharge their numbers using UPI. "Paytm is now empowering feature phone users to recharge for their Vodafone Idea numbers with just a valid UPI ID. Along with the telecom major and National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to extend this service throughout the country," Paytm said in a statement. The move would help crore of citizens who mostly use feature mobile phones to now top up their numbers without having the need to visit physical stores, it added. Paytm said that this service is based on the NPCI's payment service *99# which works on the Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) channel. This service allows mobile banking transactions using basic feature phones without the need of having a mobile internet data facility for using USSD based banking. "There are over 550 million feature phone users in the country. A majority of them are migrants and daily wage earners. Due to the ongoing lockdown, many people who rely mainly on mobile phone stores, recharge kiosks are finding it difficult to top-up their basic feature phones which rarely have internet data facility," Paytm Senior Vice President Abhay Sharma said. Praveena Rai, chief operating officer of NPCI said the USSD-based service would facilitate feature phone users having a UPI ID to keep in touch with their near and dear ones even if they don't find mobile recharge shops in their localities. "The USSD service would also help people register their UPI IDs on BHIM UPI and provide them with a seamless mobile recharge experience," Rai added. Avneesh Khosla, Director-Marketing of Vodafone Idea Ltd said in the last two months, the company has launched a slew of initiatives to help consumers stay connected. "We believe that this partnership with Paytm will help facilitate a large number of our digitally unconnected customers to recharge through USSD without being dependent on mobile internet, any digital app, or a physical retail touchpoint," he added. If a customer's UPI ID is not registered with BHIM UPI, they then need to dial *99# after which they are shown all bank accounts linked with the mobile number from where the USSD is dialled in. The customer then selects the bank account he wants to register his UPI ID with and sets up a UPI PIN.
