Out of the blue and for reasons best known to Google, they considered it gambling. Whereas, their own payment app runs a similar promotion where you get scratch cards and then get money from that. We are a bit surprised because of that,” a Paytm spokesperson told Business Insider. While Google in its statement said that when an app violates the policies, they notify the developer of the violation and remove the app from Google Play until the developer brings the app into compliance. “And in the case where there are repeated policy violations, we may take more serious action which may include terminating Google Play Developer accounts,” it said. However, Paytm said that it was only today that it was notified regarding the scratch card ‘violation’. Earlier in the beginning of September, there was a different violation regarding Paytm First Games. “Today you can go and advertise about a fantasy gaming app on any other app but Google says that you can’t promote your own sister app. This meant that Paytm can promote any other app but not our own fantasy gaming app. This is drawing on the lines of anti-competitiveness. Today’s violation was absolutely Google’s single-minded understanding of what the game is. They clubbed it both under the same ‘policies’ violation whereas they are two different things,” said the spokesperson. ‘Google’s policies have to adhere to the law of the land’ Interestingly, Paytm First Games continues to exist in the Apple App Store, where it was launched a month ago. Google and Apple have different approaches towards fantasy gaming. While Google takes strict action against any game that is related to betting online, Apple doesn’t seem to have any qualms about that. In fact, Google allows fantasy gaming apps on the Play Store in the US. “Apple is a bit more liberal in their policies and hence more supportive of app ecosystems specifically when it comes to real money gaming. While Google allows fantasy gaming apps to be listed on the playstore in the US, what we are trying to ask is why an inferior treatment for apps in India,” said the Paytm spokesperson. Paytm makes it easier to pay credit card bills – here are five reasons why you should be using it

New Delhi, Apr 27 () Paytm on Monday said it has developed a 'contactless in-store ordering' solution to help restaurants and eateries minimise physical contacts for menu, billing and cash transactions after these businesses open after the lockdown. The digital payments major aims to onboard over one lakh restaurants for the solution. It is looking at tapping into top-30 cities to start with, and then rolling out to other cities. In a statement, Paytm said it has developed a QR code that will be displayed at these restaurants that users can scan from the Paytm app to browse the menu and place orders. This will avoid the need to touch the menu card that could be unsanitised and also minimises interaction with the servers, it added. Online food aggregator and delivery platform Zomato has also said it is working towards adding new features on its app that will allow diners to use online menus, place orders, and make payments when they visit restaurants after the lifting of the lockdown imposed to contain the spread of coronavirus infection. Paytm said its solution supports each of the payment methods, including Paytm Wallet, Paytm UPI, net-banking and cards, and offers live order updates on the Paytm app, the statement said. "In the first phase, the company is in the process of onboarding over a lakh restaurant which will help them to ensure social distancing amidst COVID-19 fears. This, in turn, will also enhance the restaurant's efficiency and trust for the customers to recover their business while reducing cost overheads," the statement said. The company added that it will extend this solution to all leading quick service restaurants and and dine-in brands. "We understand that after the lockdown, our country will require a safe dining and food ordering experience. Therefore, we have built this technology to help restaurants and their customers to follow social-distancing norms. Google hits back at Paytm ⁠— reiterates that ‘repeated policy violations’ will lead to stricter actions

<ul><li>YouGov's latest report reveals that <keyword id="6357120" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="paytm">Paytm</keyword> and Big Basket are the most used apps for ordering essentials during the COVID-19 <keyword id="91743" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="lockdown">lockdown</keyword></li><li>Although people have engaged with delivery apps during this period, only half are satisfied with the online ordering experience.</li></ul>YouGov’s latest survey reveals that despite the lockdown and strict norms around social distancing, the majority of urban Indians (52%) are stepping out and buying essentials from local retailers and hypermarkets. 39% are getting it delivered locally by neighbourhood vendors. The survey was run among 1000 respondents from 14th- 17th April. Most people have used delivery apps to order essential supplies during the lockdown period and Paytm is the most used app for this purpose (39%), followed by Big Basket (21%) and Big Bazaar (18%). Although slightly late but Swiggy and Zomato have entered the fray, and one in six people admitted to using these apps for the delivery of necessary items (16% and 15%, respectively). Amazon Pantry (16%), Reliance Fresh (15%), Grofers (14%) and Dmart (14%) were some other popular channels of delivery. Comparatively, Flipkart Supermart (10%), Domino’s Pizza (7%), Milk Basket (5%), Nature’s Basket (4%) and Dunzo (3%) were less popular for ordering daily supplies. While people have indulged with delivery apps at some point during the lockdown, currently only one in five (20%) Indians are ordering essentials online through these apps. Residents in North India were more likely to say this- at 27%. Similarly, a higher number of tier-1 and tier-2 city residents are likely to order online through delivery apps as compared to tier-3 residents. Among the different age groups, people in their thirties (28%) are more likely than the rest to shop everything online. Even though Paytm emerged as the most used delivery app for essentials during the lockdown, when it specifically comes to those who are currently only ordering online, Big Basket takes the top spot (at 44%), followed by Paytm (34%) and Grofers (33%). The e-grocer is especially popular among respondents from tier I cities, with 58% saying they shopped from Big Basket during the lockdown. Paytm on the other hand, is more popular in tier-2 and 3 cities. The high volume of people stepping out to buy necessities or getting them delivered locally could be due to problems faced with online grocery shopping. Unavailability of goods is the top concern among buyers ordering essentials online (40%), followed by lack of variety as well as unusually long delays in deliveries (32% each). Some respondents experienced cancellation of their orders (22%), received partial deliveries (17%) and faced issues with order policies (16%). Few witnessed payment issues (11%) while few others received low quality products (10%). However, a quarter seem pleased with the experience and claim to have had no problems with their delivery. At an overall level, half the respondents are satisfied or very satisfied with the experience of ordering essentials online. One in six (16%), however, are either unsatisfied or very unsatisfied while a third (33%) are unsure of their experience. Unsurprisingly, satisfaction is higher among those who currently order online as compared to those who either step out or order essentials locally through neighbourhood vendors and this presents an opportunity for e-grocers to win these consumers by offering better service and experience. <ul><li><keyword id="6354743" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon-India">Amazon India</keyword> has plans on rolling out its own Unified Payments Interface (UPI) so that online shoppers don’t have to depend on third-party applications to make payments on the platform. </li><li>With this move, the company is rolling into a space that already has a lot of competition with PayTM, BHIM, PhonePe, <keyword id="2750705" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google-Pay">Google Pay</keyword> and <keyword id="1106616" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="TrueCaller">Truecaller</keyword>. </li><li>With its own UPI as an option, <keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> India will be able to offer users an ‘end-to-end’ solution for <keyword id="6357762" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="online-shopping">online shopping</keyword>.</li></ul>India’s central bank just announced a committee to push more Indians towards digital payments and Amazon has plans of jumping into the ring with its own Unified Payments Interface (UPI). Bankers told <a href="https://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/internet/amazon-starts-closed-user-group-testing-of-upi-pay-platform/67445483">ETtech</a> that the e-commerce giant is already testing its UPI on a restricted user base, in partnership with Axis Bank. Any digital payments platform needs to adopt <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/upi-2-0-heres-what-you-need-to-know/articleshow/65444928.cms">UPI 2.0</a>, which was launched in August, 2018, in order to enable online financial transactions in India. That space is currently dominated by the Indian government’s own <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/UIDAI-CEO-confident-about-BHIM-and-Aadhaar-Pay-says-misuse-not-possible/articleshow/58235536.cms">BHIM app</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/thanks-to-demonetization-paytm-is-making-rs-120-crore-per-day-achieves-target-before-deadline-crosses-5-billion-gmv/articleshow/55541691.cms">PayTM</a>, PhonePe, Google Pay and Truecaller. But, Amazon has an edge. Rather being a digital wallet that adapts to being an e-commerce platform like PayTM, Amazon already has its customer base. Setting up its own UPI will help users that are already on Amazon, stay on Amazon, without needing a third-party app to make online payments. Even WhatsApp had <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/whatsapp-google-yet-to-fully-comply-with-indias-data-localisation-norms-despite-repeated-inquiries-from-the-government/articleshow/66878922.cms">plans</a> of rolling out its own payments platform in June, 2018 but India’s new data localisation policy has them stuck in a rut. How is this going to change how you make payments online? At the checkout stage while shopping online on Amazon, it will have its own UPI handle that you can choose to make payments along with the usual suspects — debit cards, credit cards, net banking or cash-on-delivery. The UPI handle will allow you to make payments directly from your bank account to Amazon. Due to the vast popularity of PayTM, some users assume that all UPI using apps are digital wallets — but they’re not. An e-wallet is where money is transferred from your bank account into a digital wallet, where you can access it to make payments. But an app developed on the UPI platform allows transactions to occur directly between your bank account and the vendor, like a debit card, where the app is only the means of making the transfer without any having to store the money anywhere else in between. That will be the essential difference between Amazon Pay and Amazon’s UPI platform. The introduction of Amazon’s own payment platform will negate the need for consumers to turn elsewhere when they need to access their money. It assures users of an end-to-end solution for their online shopping.

Recently, Paytm, Jabong and Hotstar have partnered with mobile companies like Samsung, Microsoft, Panasonic, Micromax, Karbonn and the like to pre-embed their mobile apps on outgoing smartphones. 
 
Shankar Nath, Senior Vice President at Paytm answers your questions about such pre-bundled apps: 
 
Why would my smartphone now come pre-installed with such apps? 
 
Manufacturers are doing this to add value to their products. The move will only help facilitate India’s massive movement to apps in terms of people transacting online. 
 
When can we expect Paytm enabled smartphones? 
 
Few models from Micromax, Intex, Lava and Karbonn are already in the market. Lumia models would have it sometime later. It’s an ongoing process. 
 
Do you feel jittery that this might put off a lot of non-Paytm budget smartphone users? 
 
As technology has advanced, processing power has kept going up, and smartphone costs have kept going down. Most of these apps are very light and most people will find it useful. Otherwise, one can always uninstall. 
 
What kind of sales hike are you expecting? 
 
The app will certainly allow us to reach a wider user base. 3/4th or nearly 80% out of the total million transactions a day we process is through a mobile. 
 
Any plans to go mobile only, like Myntra? 
 
None as of now. We get a significant amount of business through our app. So it’s a crucial part of our overall distribution and marketing efforts. However, we’d like to have all channels available.

Paytm answers your questions on
pre-bundled mobile apps

Having ruled like a king in the Internet wallet segment , Paytm has some serious competition from Snapdeal-owned Freecharge. Snapdeal-owned online recharge and utility payments platform Freecharge has launched a digital wallet. The combination of Freecharge and Snapdeal will create one of the largest mobile commerce ecosystems," Freecharge Cofounder Kunal Shah told The Economic Times. 
 
The company is planning to provide for nearly Rs 1,000 crore of cashbacks through the wallet as festive shopping picks up during October-December. 
 
The new wallet, which will allow consumers to make payments for transactions on both Freecharge and Snapdeal, is expected to strengthen the ecommerce company's position as it battles two of India's largest ecommerce companies, Paytm and Flipkart. 
 
Freecharge has tied up with YES Bank to launch the wallet. During the launch, new Freecharge Chief Operating Officer Govind Rajan took a jab at Paytm, comparing the two apps on features such as app size and transfer charges to the bank. Freecharge has also partnered with the payment bank licensee FINO to build scale and to reach out the underserved population, it said in a statement. 
 
Alibaba-backed Paytm recently received a payment bank licence from the Reserve Bank of India. Paytm, which owns a prepaid wallet licence already, claims to have more than 100 million wallet users in the country.
