India has become the largest 'connected' nation in the world with 800 million users, <keyword id="15760524" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="union-minister-of-state-for-electronics" source="Orion">Union Minister of State for Electronics</keyword> and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar has said. Speaking at the India Internet Governance Forum 2022 (IIGF2022), the minister said that 5G and the largest rural broadband connectivity network project at <keyword id="2791195" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharatnet" source="Orion">BharatNet</keyword> will have 1.2 billion Indian users constituting the single largest presence of the global internet. "We also expect further technological innovations as well as updated regulatory policies to remain relevant. The deep involvement by all stakeholders will be the third leg of this 'Global Standard Cyber Law Framework' that, we hope, will catalyse the Indian Internet and the economy," Chandrasekhar told the gathering at the three-day event in the national capital on Sunday. The IIGF2022 brought together all stakeholders in the global Internet governance ecosystem, including government, industry, civil society and academia. "We are looking at building laws which ensure the privacy, protection, data, security and safety of our citizens. We are also looking at how to create a trillion-dollar digital economy in the next three years," said Alkesh Kumar Sharma, Secretary, MeitY. The event focused on discussing the roadmap to digitisation and reaffirming India as an essential participant on the global stage by highlighting its role and importance in international policy development on Internet governance. India largest 'connected' nation with over 800 mn broadband users: Rajeev Chandrasekhar

<keyword id="3690255" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="jiofiber" source="Orion">JioFiber</keyword> added 0.19 million subscribers to become the number 1 operator in the fixed broadband segment in just about two years from commercial launch, with 4.34mn FBB subs. JioFiber's market share improved 85bp month on month to 16.9 per cent (launched commercially in Sep-19), Nomura said in a report. Bharti added 0.1mn subs to reach 4.08mn FBB subs (up 68% since May-20), with market share up 60bp m-m to 15.9 per cent. <keyword id="57998" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bharat-sanchar-nigam-limited" source="Orion">Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited</keyword>'s (BSNL) market share further declined by 185 bp to 16.4 per cent share (vs 44 per cent pre-JioFiber launch in September'19), the report said. Hence, we expect market share gains to continue for Bharti and R-Jio, the report said. TRAI data for November shows a slight improvement in industry numbers, with Jio gaining market share at the expense of VIL, UBS said in a report. After a large decline in September (driven by the 19mn subscriber loss reported by Jio) and flattish numbers in October, the industry witnessed a slight improvement in November, with overall subscriber base expanding by 1.2mn. Bharti and VIL ended Nov with SMS of 30.4 per cent (flat MoM) and 22.9 per cent (down 20bps) respectively. It is important to note that the tariff hikes were largely applicable from end-November / December, and therefore, December is likely to see some churn, UBS said. In fixed broadband, Jio surpassed BSNL to become the country's largest FBB provider. The company now plans to grow to 800 centres by 2020. The startup has also expanded its operations to Dubai. This recent round was led by Chiratae Ventures, Accel Partners, Kalaari Capital &amp; Oaktree Capital, while new investors like Epiq Capital, Unilever Ventures, Innoven Capital and Kotak Mahindra Bank too chipped in. There are estimates of roughly 2,600 satellites that no longer work floating in space, but even factoring those in, SpaceX's planned fleet would be larger than everything already in space.Some of the <a href="http://www.esa.int/Our_Activities/Launchers/Ariane_5_Largest-ever_telecommunications_satellite_launched">biggest</a> telecommunications satellites can weigh several tons, be the size of a bus, and orbit from a fixed point about 22,000 miles (35,000 km) above Earth.After we took a look at SpaceX's FCC application, though, it seems these won't be your typical telecommunications satellites.Each satellite in SpaceX's planned constellation will weigh about 850 lbs (386 kg) and be roughly the size of a MINI Cooper car. They will orbit at altitudes ranging from 715 miles (1,150 km) to 790 miles (1,275 km).From this lofty vantage point, SpaceX says each satellite could cover an ellipse about 1,300 miles (2,120 km) wide. That's about the size of the state of Rhode Island."The system is designed to provide a wide range of broadband and communications services for residential, commercial, institutional, governmental and professional users worldwide," SpaceX wrote in its application. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><a href="http://licensing.fcc.gov/myibfs/download.do?attachment_key=1158350">SpaceX/FCC</a></div></div></div>SpaceX's filing with the FCC outlines a two-phase launch plan.To get the party started, SpaceX wants to send up 1,600 satellites at one orbital altitude, then follow up with another 2,825 satellites placed in four shells at different altitudes."With deployment of the first 800 satellites, SpaceX will be able to provide widespread U.S. and international coverage for broadband services," SpaceX wrote. "Once fully optimized through the Final Deployment, the system will be able to provide high bandwidth (up to 1 Gbps per user), low latency broadband services for consumers and businesses in the U.S. and globally."<h2>Turbo speeds</h2>A speed of 1 Gbps globally would be huge.The global average for internet speed in late 2015, according <a href="https://www.akamai.com/us/en/multimedia/documents/content/state-of-the-internet/q4-2015-state-of-the-internet-connectivity-report-us.pdf">Akamai's "State of the Internet" report</a>, was 5.1 Mbps per user - about 200 times slower than SpaceX's target - with most of the higher speeds tied up in cable and fiberoptic connections.Here are some more details directly from SpaceX's filing, which are notable:<ul><li>High capacity: Each satellite in the SpaceX System provides aggregate downlink capacity to users ranging from 17 to 23 Gbps, depending on the gain of the user terminal involved. Assuming an average of 20 Gbps, the 1600 satellites in the Initial Deployment would have a total aggregate capacity of 32 Tbps. SpaceX will periodically improve the satellites over the course of the multi-year deployment of the system, which may further increase capacity.</li><li>High adaptability: The system leverages phased array technology to dynamically steer a large pool of beams to focus capacity where it is needed. Optical inter-satellite links permit flexible routing of traffic on-orbit. Further, the constellation ensures that frequencies can be reused effectively across different satellites to enhance the flexibility and capacity and robustness of the overall system.</li><li>Broadband services: The system will be able to provide broadband service at speeds of up to 1 Gbps per end user. The system's use of low-Earth orbits will allow it to target latencies of approximately 25-35 ms.</li><li>Worldwide coverage: With deployment of the first 800 satellites, the system will be able to provide U.S. and international broadband connectivity; when fully deployed, the system will add capacity and availability at the equator and poles for truly global coverage.</li><li>Low cost: SpaceX is designing the overall system from the ground up with cost- effectiveness and reliability in mind, from the design and manufacturing of the space and ground-based elements, to the launch and deployment of the system using SpaceX launch services, development of the user terminals, and end-user subscription rates.</li><li>Ease of use: SpaceX's phased-array user antenna design will allow for a low-profile user terminal that is easy to mount and operate on walls or roofs.</li><li>The satellites will last between 5 years and 7 years and decay within a year after that.</li></ul>Musk first discussed the unnamed satellite constellation project back in January 2015, later <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/space-x-is-trying-to-serve-up-internet-service-from-space-2015-6">filing for an FCC application</a> to test basic technologies that'd support it.According to a June 2015 story by Christian Davenport <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/economy/spacex-founder-files-with-government-to-provide-internet-service-from-space/2015/06/09/db8d8d02-0eb7-11e5-a0dc-2b6f404ff5cf_story.html">at The Washington Post</a>, Musk said the project - estimated to cost some $10 billion - "would be like rebuilding the Internet in space."Davenport also noted that Google and Fidelity invested $1 billion into Musk's company, in part to support the project, so it's a good guess that if and when the network becomes functional, those companies would partly assume control of it. (Google parent company Alphabet is also working on its own effort to beam internet connectivity from the skies using satellites, balloons and drones).The filing comes just two months after a SpaceX rocket exploded during a routine launchpad test. Jio Gigafiber has been the talk of the town since Mukesh Ambani had announced it in the last AGM held last year. What it offers Gigafiber is a mega package offered by Jio, which will offer broadband, TV and fixed landline plans. But it’s not going to be an ordinary plan. Gigafiber is <a href="https://www.livemint.com/industry/telecom/reliance-jio-gigafiber-rollout-jio-phone-3-expected-as-ril-holds-agm-tomorrow-1565503217806.html">reportedly</a> set to offer broadband services at 1 gigabytes per second (GBPS) speed, 600 TV channels and a landline connection – all of this at just ₹600 per month. This will put Jio in direct competition with ACT broadband services, one of the most popular options in India right now. ACT, which is currently India’s largest fiber-based service provider, is also planning a ₹800 crore IPO soon. Jio Phone 3 The AGM is also set to see the launch of Jio Phone 3. The previous two models which were priced at ₹1,500 and ₹2,999 have already been a big hit in the market, for giving smartphone features to a user at the most basic price. Jio Phone 3 is expected to take the features up a notch at an equally affordable price. Can Gigafiber do a Jio? The launch of Gigafiber will be a big boom in the Indian broadband industry because of lower tariffs and higher internet speeds. It is expected to have the same impact that Jio did when it launched. Jio, with its low tariff and faster internet speeds, has seen it become India’s second largest telecom provider within 3 years of its launch.

Revenues, net income, and total domestic subscriptions surprised to the upside as well.
Shares are up nearly 9% today, trading around $386.
BofA Merrill Lynch analysts Nat Schindler, Justin Post, and Jason Mitchell are among the most bearish analysts on Wall Street toward Netflix shares. They actually raised their price target on the stock after last night's earnings release - from $115 to $158 - but the forecast is still 59% below the current share price.
"Hard to find fault, but harder still to justify price," say the analysts.
In a note to clients, they explain their reasoning:

A valuation that is reaching "sky high" 
With Netflix stock at $400 in the aftermarket, we find the valuation difficult to justify. In order to reach its current price, we believe the company would need: 1) total subs to peak at 140mn (70mn domestic, 70mn international); 2) prices to rise by at least $3/month per user; and 3) contribution margins to grow to 47% compared to today's 24%. This bullish view is possible, but highly unlikely in our view given that it relies heavily on Netflix maintaining growth momentum even though Netflix has already penetrated 31mn of the ~100mn households in the U.S. 
Raising PO to $158 based improved subscriber growth 
We are maintaining our Underperform rating while raising our price objective to $158 (from $132) based on our sum-of-parts analysis at peak penetration. Our peak penetration rate has increased from 40mn to 50mn as we believe Netflix may be able to hold current subscriber growth rates for longer than we originally estimated. Our valuation analysis (see Exhibit 3 below) assumes that Netflix will reach peak penetration of 50mn households domestically in six years while hitting that same level internationally five years later. At peak penetration we believe the business should trade at an S&amp;P multiple (15x) at best.
Bull Scenario
This bullish valuation scenario is based on a total subscriber base of 140mn with 70mn domestic and 70mn international subs. To reach these subscriber levels it would require an average annual sub addition rate of 5mn in the domestic business for 8 years and an average annual sub rate of 4.8mn in the international business for 13 years. In addition, subscription prices would have to rise by $3 and the effective contribution margin for both businesses would need to nearly double to 47%. We apply a 15x S&amp;P multiple for steady state growth. Assuming no slowdown in sub additions for 8 years and high 47% contribution margins seems like a bit of a stretch, in our opinion.
Our valuation
Our $158 valuation is based on 50mn domestic and 50mn international subscribers. This will require 3.4mn annual average subscriber additions over 6 years in the domestic business (reasonable given the current 6mn sub add rate) and an average subscriber addition of 3.8 over 11 years in the international business. We assume no price increase for subs and have effective contribution margins of 35% for both businesses which should be achievable as Netflix leverages its subscriber base. We apply a 15x S&amp;P multiple for steady state growth.
Netflix shares currently trade around 205 times trailing 12-month earnings.
