And if you're using a phone or computer, you probably won't even need a new game controller.</p><p>Here's a guide to the hardware you'll need to play Stadia, so you can get started streaming your favorite games right away.</p><h2><strong>How to play Stadia on an Android phone</strong></h2><p>Stadia supports most Google Pixel phones, all new Samsung S phones, most OnePlus phones, and more. On most modern Android devices - 6.0 and later - you'll simply need to download the Stadia app to get started playing.</p><p><a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.stadia.android&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=USmp;gl=US" target="_blank" rel="noopener">You can download the Stadia app from the Google Play Store for free</a>. Once you open it, you'll be prompted to connect your Google account, and then set up your Stadia profile. Or, if you already have a Stadia profile, you can just sign in.</p><p>Like all platforms, you won't need to download any games from Stadia - they're streamed to you over the internet - so don't worry about deleting photos to make room for it.</p><p>All Stadia games played on Android support touchscreen controls, but you can also use a real gamepad, as we'll outline in a bit.</p><div type="image" title="8   How to play Stadia" height="2000" width="1500" msid="79808225" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>How to play Stadia on an iPhone or iPad</strong></h2><p>Although <a href="https://apps.apple.com/us/app/google-stadia/id1471900213" target="_blank" rel="noopener">there is a Stadia app for iPhones</a>, you can't actually play Stadia games through it - you can only sign up for Stadia and set up your controller. This is due to a long-running rivalry between Google and Apple.</p><p>Instead, if you want to play Stadia on your iPhone or iPad, you'll need to play through an internet browser. Here, we'll use Safari, the default internet app that comes installed on every Apple device.</p> <p>Just note that you'll have to be running at least iOS 14.3 or iPadOS 14.3. Any version older than that can't support Stadia.</p><p><strong>1. </strong>Launch Safari on your iPhone or iPad and <a href="https://stadia.google.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">head to the Stadia website</a>. Once there, sign into your Stadia account or tap "Try now" to create a new one.</p><p><strong>2.</strong> After you log in, a pop-up will appear telling you that you can play in your browser, but warning you that the iOS version of Stadia is in beta. When a menu of options appears, tap "Add to Home Screen."</p><h2><strong>How to play Stadia on a computer</strong></h2><p>Stadia can be run through Google Chrome on Mac, PC, and Linux computers. </p><p>Using the Google Chrome web browser, simply use your <a href="https://stadia.google.com/u/1/home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Google account credentials to set up a new Stadia account, or sign into an existing one</a>.</p><p>Once you've signed in, you can start playing games directly from your browser. Just note that Stadia requires most games to be played in fullscreen mode, and for some, will need access to your computer's microphone.</p><p>You can connect a controller from within your browser by clicking the controller icon in the top-right, selecting which controller you want to use, and then following the directions.</p><div type="image" title="3   How to play Stadia" height="1875" width="3000" msid="79808227" hostid="261"></div><h2><strong>How to play Stadia on a TV with a Chromecast Ultra</strong></h2><p>If you're a gamer who loves to use the biggest screen in your house, this setup is the one for you.</p><p>To play Stadia on your TV, you'll need the following: A TV with an HDMI port, a Google Chromecast Ultra device, and a Stadia Controller.</p><p>First, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-set-up-chromecast" target="_blank" rel="noopener">plug the Chromecast Ultra into your TV and set it up</a>. The Chromecast Ultra comes with its own Ethernet port - for the best Stadia experience, use this port and an Ethernet cable to link the Chromecast to your internet router.</p><p>Once you've done that, press the Stadia logo on your controller to put it into Linking Mode. </p><p>A code should appear on your TV screen - it'll look like a random combination of buttons on your controller.</p><div type="image" title="1   How to play Stadia copy" height="1125" width="1500" msid="79808231" hostid="261"></div><p>Enter the code on your Stadia Controller and wait for your Chromecast to detect your controller. If the link is successful, Stadia will launch on your TV. If it's unsuccessful, you'll have to enter the code again.</p><p>If you don't see a linking code appear on your TV, this might mean that your Chromecast isn't set to "Ambient Mode." To fix this:</p><p><strong>1. </strong>Open the Google Home app on your smartphone and tap the icon for your Chromecast Ultra.</p><p><strong>2. </strong>In the top-right corner, tap "Settings." It may also look like a gear icon.</p><p><strong>3. </strong>Under "Device Info," tap "Ambient Mode."</p><p><strong>4. </strong>A new screen will appear. Scroll down until you find "Stadia Controller linking code" - click "Show" underneath it. The linking code will appear on your TV.</p><p>If you're having issues connecting your Chromecast to Wi-Fi, the Google Home app can help with that too. If the controller won't connect to Wi-Fi, you'll need to use the Stadia app.</p><p>You can also cast Stadia onto your TV using the mobile Stadia app, or <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-chromecast-from-mac" target="_blank" rel="noopener">your computer's Chrome browser</a>.</p><p>Although playing with the Chromecast Ultra offers the least flexibility in terms of controller support, Google has hinted that more controllers might support it in the future.</p><p>In the meantime, you can <a href="https://store.google.com/us/product/stadia_controller" target="_blank" rel="noopener">purchase a Stadia Controller for $69</a>, or for $100 get <a href="https://store.google.com/us/product/stadia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Stadia Premiere bundle</a> that includes both a controller and Chromecast Ultra.</p><h2><strong>All the controllers that work with <keyword id="7446305" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="google-stadia">Google Stadia</keyword></strong></h2><p>We've mentioned several times that the Stadia Controller isn't the only way to play Stadia. How to play Google Stadia on your phone, computer, or TV

<ul><li>Popular first-person shooter <keyword id="9263126" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="valorant">Valorant</keyword> is coming to mobiles.<br /></li><li><keyword id="2850099" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Riot-Games">Riot Games</keyword>, the company behind the game, announced this on the first anniversary of the PC-only game.<br /></li><li>Valorant now has 14 million monthly players.<br /></li></ul>Riot Games is bringing its popular first-person shooter game, Valorant, to mobile. The company announced that it is working on bringing the Valorant experience to mobile to expand the player community.<br /><br />Launched exactly a year ago (in 2020), Valorant has gained popularity, garnering great reviews over time. Riot also announced that the game now has 14 million players each month.<br /><br />To recap, Valorant is a first-person shooter (FPS) game that combines some of the best aspects of Counter Strike: Global Offensive, and Overwatch, bringing the mechanics of the former and the character abilities of the latter.<br /><br />Valorant is a free-to-play game that is available for computers running Windows 7 or later. Consumers in India are price conscious and Apple’s phones are only getting more expensive. It doesn’t help that Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi and OnePlus heightened competition by offering high-end specs at cheaper prices.<br /><br />Apple isn’t entirely innocent either. The company depended on the Indian government to soften its regulation on allowing foreign companies set up shop if they <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/apple-iphone-mass-production-is-shifting-from-china-to-india-solving-a-key-problem-for-the-company/articleshow/68891132.cms">source 30% of their materials locally</a> — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/still-unable-to-bring-apple-stores-to-india-apple-is-establishing-flagship-outlets-instead/articleshow/65485724.cms">which didn’t happen</a>. Not only did this make the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/apples-iphone-problems-are-becoming-samsungs-problems-and-it-wants-to-sue/articleshow/69975021.cms">iPhones costlier</a>, it also meant that Apple didn’t have any physical stores in the country. <br /><br />While Apple waited, OnePlus and Xiaomi entered the market with their aggressive pricing and promise of flagship phones on affordable devices. In fact, OnePlus has the largest market share in India’s premium smartphone market, according to Counterpoint.<br /><br />This year, in particular, was tough on companies with the global slowdown in smartphone sales to which Apple was not immune. India’s weakening Rupee, which made imports more expensive, only made the situation worse.<br /><br />Apple’s delay in adding new features to its phones and taking its time to catch up to tech trends has also dulled the excitement that usually used to surround the launch of a new iPhone. In comparison, the constant launch of Android phones and the variety of their features has begun to seem more appealing to users. <br /><br /><strong>Brighter pastures ahead<br /></strong><br />The government didn’t relax its rules for Apple but did so for single brand retailers at large. Either way, it now means that the company can open its signature <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/apple-store-to-launch-in-mumbai-soon/articleshow/69246612.cms">‘Apple Stores’</a> in the country. Reportedly, the first one is scheduled to come up at the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/indias-first-apple-store-opening-in-the-bandra-kurla-complex-in-mumbai/articleshow/71442026.cms">BKC Complex in Mumbai sometime next year</a>.<br /><br />Also, Apple is finally among the top ten smartphone brands in the country. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></p><ul class="summary-list"><li>The <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/smartphones">smartphone</a> industry has been in a rut over the last two years as consumers have held onto their mobile devices for longer periods of time.</li><li>But next year could mark a turning point for the industry with the transition from 4G LTE to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/5g">5G high-speed wireless internet</a>, says Cristiano Amon, the president of market-leading mobile chipmaker <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/qualcomm">Qualcomm</a>.</li><li>That's largely because many consumers who have held onto their mobile devices for the past several years will be enticed into upgrading, he said. </li><li>Companies like <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/samsung">Samsung</a> and Motorola now make some models which support 5G, making it more realistic for customers to make the switch. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/apple">Apple</a> is also rumored to release a 5G <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/iphone">iPhone</a> in 2020.</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. </a></li></ul><p>It's been a rough couple of years for the mobile phone industry. But Cristiano Amon, president of market-leading mobile chipmaker Qualcomm, says it's all about to turn around, thanks to the rise of 5G high-speed wireless internet.</p><p>Qualcomm - which produces the chips that power smartphones from manufacturers like Samsung, LG, and OnePlus - predicts that 5G smartphone shipments will reach 450 million in 2021, and that 750 million 5G phones will be sold in 2022.</p><p>That would be a healthy shot in the arm for the stagnant smartphone market, which has largely flattened as consumers hang on to their smartphones for longer than ever. </p><p>Global smartphone shipments have only just started to rebound after the market experienced consecutive quarterly declines over the past two years. Shipments grew by 2% in the third quarter of 2019, marking the first sign of growth in two years, according to <a href="https://news.strategyanalytics.com/press-release/devices/strategy-analytics-global-smartphone-shipments-return-2-percent-growth-q3-2019">Strategy Analytics</a>. That echoes findings from <a href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prUS45636719">International Data Corporation (IDC)</a>, which reported that global shipments increased by 0.8% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2019 after seven quarters of back-to-back declines. </p><p>This year has seen some slight traces of growth, thanks to the popularity of new models like the Apple iPhone 11. Qualcomm's Amon says, however, that s that 5G is going to mark a significant turning point for the smartphone market that will bring a real market acceleration.</p><p>"It's a big transformational technology," Amon said in reference to the deployment of 5G. "It's going to happen in large scale, [and] it's going to be faster, the migration, than 4G."</p><h2>5G phones are already here</h2><p>There are a few reasons why the smartphone industry has struggled to grow in recent years. Customers are holding onto their devices <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/upgrade-no-thanks-americans-are-sticking-with-their-old-phones-1540818000">for longer periods of time</a> and therefore aren't upgrading as frequently. New premium flagship phone models from companies like Apple and Samsung in recent years have also offered smaller, mostly iterative updates over their predecessors, like improved cameras and faster processors. That can make it difficult for smartphone makers to convince consumers to pay $1,000 or more to upgrade to their new flagship devices.</p><p>But this is going to start to change starting in 2020 as 5G networks become more prominent. The benefits that 5G network compatibility will bring to smartphone owners - such as more reliable connections that enable stable internet performance even in crowded areas, and sufficient bandwidth to run high-end apps and games from the cloud - could drive acceleration in the industry, Amon says. </p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div></p><p>There are two key reasons Amon sees 2020 as being a pivotal year for smartphone shipments. First, many smartphone makers already offer phones that support 5G, including Samsung, Motorola, and OnePlus, so those in the market for a new phone already have several options to choose from. Apple, meanwhile, is also rumored to release its first 5G smartphone next September.</p><p>And in the interim, Amon notes, a 5G phone purchased today will still work on existing 4G networks.</p><p>"The best 4G phone you can buy is a 5G phone," Amon said.</p><h2>'Pent up demand' for new phones will drive faster replacement rates</h2><p>Second, consumers that have been holding onto their phones for the last three to five years are likely to be ready for an upgrade in 2020. That represents a drastic difference compared to roughly 10 years ago when 4G networks were launching in the United States and upgrading your phone every two years was the norm.</p><p>"I believe there is some pent-up demand," Amon said.</p><p>As 5G gradually phases out 4G to become the standard network in the United States, there's a chance that app makers will create digital services that require the level of connectivity and performance that can only be achieved with 5G - with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-stadia-video-game-streaming-service-review-2019-11">Google's new Stadia video game streaming service</a> being a prime example of something that could only benefit from faster wireless internet.</p><p>This larger trend, too, could entice consumers to upgrade starting next year. </p><p>"We're going to see [a] faster replacement rate and we have conditions for that to happen because phones are older," he said.  </p><p>Amon isn't the first to make such predictions. Some Wall Street analysts  have also <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/apple-iphone-11-release-wont-bring-phone-back-growth-2019-8#raymond-james-dont-expect-iphones-to-grow-again-until-the-fall-of-2020-4">previously anticipated </a>that the introduction of 5G in 2020 will be a big catalyst for driving iPhone upgrades in particular.</p><p>"5G has been designed to solve another problem," Amon said.
