In a tweet, <keyword id="1543567" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhavish-aggarwal" source="Orion">Bhavish Aggarwal</keyword>, Founder and CEO, <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword>, said that Hypercharger roll out has begun across cities. "At key BPCL pumps as well as residential complexes. 4000+ points up through next year. We're installing across India and will make them operational in 6-8 weeks. Will be free for use till end June 22 for all customers," he said in a tweet late Tuesday. Ola has expanded into advanced two-wheeler electric vehicles manufacturing at its Futurefactory. It has already begun deliveries of its e-scooters — Ola S1 and S1 Pro — albeit delayed a bit. Ola in April unveiled the 'Hypercharger Network', a charging network for its upcoming two-wheeler products starting with the <keyword id="10402715" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola-scooter" source="Orion">Ola Scooter</keyword> to be launched in India in the coming months. According to the company, the charging network will be the widest and densest electric two-wheeler charging network in the world, with more than 100,000 charging points across 400 cities. In the first year alone, the company is setting up over 5,000 charging points across 100 cities in India, the company had said in a statement. With this network, the company's upcoming Ola Scooter can be charged 50 per cent in just 18 minutes for a 75 km range. "By creating the world's largest and densest two-wheeler charging network, we will dramatically accelerate the customer adoption of electric vehicles and rapidly move the industry to electric," according to Aggarwal. Ola Electric aims to install more than 4,000 EV charging points across cities in 2022

Before Elon Musk-led Tesla finally makes its India entry, ride-hailing platform Ola on Monday announced world's largest two-wheeler manufacturing facility called Ola FutureFactory that will have annual production capacity of one crore vehicles and will be operational by 2022. The factory will generate 10,000 direct employment, along with additional jobs being created by Ola vendors and suppliers. According to <keyword id="1543567" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhavish-Aggarwal">Bhavish Aggarwal</keyword>, Chairman and Group CEO, the Phase 1 will be ready with initial annual capacity of two million around June this year. Built over 500 acres in Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu, the facility will roll out one scooter every two seconds at full capacity, Aggarwal told mediapersons. "It will have 10 production lines running at full capacity. It will be the most advanced two-wheeler factory with 3,000 AI-powered robots built on Industry 4.0 principles," he said. It will be an integrated manufacturing facility, addressing all needs from battery to finished goods. <keyword id="4393078" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola-Electric">Ola Electric</keyword> has also released first teaser visuals of the much-anticipated <keyword id="433124" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-scooter">electric scooter</keyword>. The announcement came as Tesla made its official to enter the country and chose Karnataka over Tamil Nadu to firm up its roll-out plans. Ola Electric last year acquired the Netherlands-based Etergo BV, an innovative electric scooter company known for its award-winning AppScooter for an undisclosed sum, and announced its foray into the premium electric two-wheeler market, both globally and nationally. The company has plans to set up extensive charging and swapping networks around the country. Ola Electric is also working with India's leading power distribution companies towards developing a conducive EV ecosystem through the establishment of battery swapping and charging stations in New Delhi. So it’s no surprise that they will form a major part of India’s electric vehicles mission. A report on electric mobility published by Ola Mobility Institute said that it’s shared transportation that can only push the growth of EVs. India has been shifting its gears in transportation to embrace Electric Vehicles (EVs). While news about India’s top auto manufacturers introducing electric vehicle manufacturing doesn’t surprise one now, questions still lurk about the country’s acceptance to EVs because of lack of proper infrastructure. “Unlike Western models, India may not easily kick start its electric journey by deploying premium electric cars. Instead, it makes sense to focus on electrifying vehicles with the highest demand and utility in the Indian context: two-wheelers and three-wheelers. The rickshaw is already proliferating in electric variants, suggesting it is both viable and practical. Thus, appropriate prioritisation of vehicle segments for electrification may prove to be critical to the adoption of e-mobility,” stated the report. Ola’s report is based on its pilot project in Nagpur, while its on a mission to bring 1 million EVs on Indian roads by 2022. The government expects that 25% of all vehicles on the roads will be EVs by 2030. And the push has to come with two-wheelers and three-wheelers, which today occupy over 80% of total Indian vehicles and also contribute to 35% of pollution in India, according to a report by NITI Aayog and World Energy Council. The Indian government too has been promoting the use and manufacture of EVs. Under the FAME II scheme, the government is <a href="https://tech.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/corporate/government-tightens-localisation-norms-for-electric-vehicles/68294648">offering</a> direct subsidies of upto ₹88 billion to consumers who are adopting EVs. However, given India’s infrastructural problems from bad roads to lack of charging stations, the EV journey has a few speed bumps. Another challenge is the high electricity tariff. Ola’s report states, “Although the cost of electricity shrunk significantly post the implementation of special EV tariff in October 2018, the tariff continues to be unfavorable for TCO (Total Cost Opportunity) economics to work.” With drivers too having had little or no exposure to electric vehicles, it is another task when it comes to the adoption of EVs. In fact, Ola’s initial plan of electric mobility in Nagpur also faced trouble when drivers started reportedly returning the vehicles.

Ride-hailing major <keyword id="6354720" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="ola" source="Orion">Ola</keyword> on Monday clarified that nearly 200 engineers, including some in the software vertical, have been asked to go from its 2,000-strong engineer workforce -- 10 per cent of the headcount -- as part of a larger restructuring exercise towards its electric dream. The company denied sacking 500 employees, adding that it is "centralising operations and is undertaking a restructuring exercise to minimise redundancy and build a strong lateral structure that strengthens relevant roles and functions". CNBC first reported that nearly 500 employees are being laid off from the various software verticals of <keyword id="21936" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ani" source="Orion">ANI</keyword> technologies which operates as <keyword id="6362049" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ola-cabs" source="Orion">Ola Cabs</keyword>. "The company currently has around 2,000 engineers and aims to increase its engineering talent pool to 5,000 over the next 18 months," said the ride-hailing company. The Bhavish Aggarwal-run company has nearly 1,100 employees in its core ride-hailing business. Earlier restructuring exercises impacted employees across product, marketing, sales, supply, tech, business, and operations verticals at the company, affecting nearly 500 employees that "were a result of restructuring in the Cars and Dash businesses". The ride-hailing major recently shut down its used vehicle business <keyword id="3295694" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ola-cars" source="Orion">Ola Cars</keyword>, as well as its quick-commerce business, <keyword id="13052888" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ola-dash" source="Orion">Ola Dash</keyword>, as the company shifted focus on its electric two-wheeler and car verticals. Ola said it plans to hire 5,000 engineers as it doubles down on new engineering verticals and strengthens capabilities across vehicle, cell, battery, manufacturing and autonomous streams. However, <keyword id="4393078" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ola-electric" source="Orion">Ola Electric</keyword>'s sales are diminishing and it sold 3,421 EV two-wheelers in August, a drop from 3,862 units the company sold in July. More than half a dozen senior executives have quit Ola Electric in recent months while over 30 senior executives have left Ola in the past two years. Recently, Ola Electric's head of advanced battery engineering, Ashok Saraswat, moved on. Saraswat, who joined SoftBank-backed Ola last year, is reportedly joining a company that is entering the battery business. As EV two-wheeler sales drop amid battery fire fears, Okinawa Autotech, PureEV and Ola Electric recalled 6,656 vehicles after the battery explosion incidents increased in the country. The government has said it is extra vigilant about the safety standards of EVs and experts are on the job.
