The Finnish tech major said that it will launch yet another <a href="https://in.pcmag.com/mobile/132471/nokia-72-nokia-62-announced-with-puredisplay-triple-rear-cameras-zeiss-optics">mid-range smartphone</a> -- Nokia 6.2 in India on 11 October. Nokia 7.2, the costlier of the two phones in the same series, was <a href="https://in.pcmag.com/mobile/132732/nokia-72-with-triple-rear-cameras-20mp-selfie-camera-launched-in-india">launched</a> in India last month. Now, its affordable sibling is on its way. The device has been listed on <a href="https://www.amazon.in/b/ref=as_li_ss_tl?node=19038493031&amp;linkCode=sl2">Amazon India</a> with a ‘Notify Me’ button, and is exclusively for the e-commerce portal. The device is expected to be priced around ₹14,000. Specifications of Nokia 6.2 The Nokia 6.2 runs on Android 9.0 Pie and is a part of the Android One initiative, which means users will get the stock android experience and the latest updates from Google first. It features a 6.39-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080 pixels) resolution display with a waterdrop notch. It also supports PureDisplay and HDR10 technologies. It has a dedicated Pixelworks visual processor which enables it to upscale video content to HDR in real time. Nokia 6.2 is powered by the octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset coupled with Adreno 509 GPU. The device will have three variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 4GB RAM + 128GB storage. The internal storage could be expanded to 5,12GB with a microSD card. Coming to its most-prized camera functions, Nokia 6.2 has a triple camera setup on the back. But it comes without Zeiss optics here. It has a 16-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultrawide angle lens and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, the Nokia 6.2 has an 8-megapixel camera with Zeiss optics. The Nokia 6.2 is powered by a 3,500mAh battery. Its connectivity options include a dual 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac, GPS and a USB Type-C port.

After Samsung, Nokia to launch its ‘affordable’ triple camera phone exclusively on Amazon

New Delhi, Dec 18 () HMD Global, which sells Nokia brand of mobile phones, on Wednesday announced the launch of Nokia 2.3 smartphone in the Indian market priced at Rs 8,199.
 The device was unveiled in Cairo earlier this month and, will compete with smartphones from the stables of players like Xiaomi, Infinix and realme.
 "Nokia 2 series has been one of our most successful franchises in the accessible segment in India and to augment the value we bring to our Indian consumers, we have fronted a 1-year replacement guarantee on Nokia 2.3..." HMD Global Vice President - India, Middle-East and North Africa Sanmeet Kochhar said.
 Consumers have loved HMD's 1-year replacement guarantee on Nokia feature phones and now this is being extended to smartphones with the Nokia 2.3, he added.
 Nokia branded phones once dominated the Indian phone market but lost its spot to South Korean major Samsung, and was also adversely impacted by sale of low-cost Chinese phones.
 India is one of the fastest growing smartphone markets globally. As per International Data Corporation (IDC), smartphone sales grew 9.3 per cent on year-on-year basis to 46.6 million units in the July-September 2019.
 The sub-Rs 10,000 category is estimated to account for a significant share of the market.
 Xiaomi continued to lead the tally with 27.1 per cent share, followed by Samsung (18.9 per cent), Vivo (15.2 per cent), Realme (14.3 per cent) and Oppo (11.8 per cent).
 The Nokia 2.3 features a large 6.2-inch screen and promises a two-day battery.
 The android 10-ready device will receive guaranteed monthly security updates for three years and OS updates for two years. It also features a dual camera and comes with 'Recommended Shot', a new Nokia phones feature that helps users choose the best picture. It also has a dedicated Google Assistant Button. SR SHW

Glasstic here means a combination of glass and plastic, for the outer shell of the phone. Sadly, the phone’s back scratches easily, and a few days of use has already left a few noticeable scratches on the back. Unfortunately, Samsung has not included a case in the box, so you will have to buy one yourself. <div type="image" title="Samsung Galaxy F62 back" msid="81084383" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Samsung Galaxy F62 comes with a glasstic back.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> The Galaxy F62 joins a growing list of phones that have the fingerprint sensor integrated with the power button on the left. Some other phones which use the same approach are the Galaxy M31s, the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max, among others. <div type="image" title="Samsung Galaxy F62 side" msid="81084394" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Samsung Galaxy F62 features a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> Overall, the design and build quality are good, except for the easily scratchable back. Display The Galaxy F62 comes with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display, with Full HD+ resolution just like the one on the Galaxy M51. It is bright, crisp and also supports Widevine L1 certification, which is needed if you want to stream content in Full HD resolution. However, it is a 60Hz panel, unlike the OnePlus Nord which comes with a 90Hz display. In my usage, the phone was readable even under direct sunlight. It has a hole punch notch on the top that houses the selfie camera. Software Samsung packs in plenty of features with its custom skin One UI. The Galaxy F62 comes with Android 11 and One UI 3.1 out of the box – both being the latest versions currently available. You can start using the Galaxy F62 out of the box without any customization and you will still appreciate the balance Samsung has struck in terms of ease of use and power features like the Edge panel that houses shortcuts. If that is not enough, you can customise the phone to your heart’s content by going into the Settings and playing with the options available. Overall, Samsung’s One UI skin offers a great balance between simplicity, performance and customizability. Performance and battery life The Galaxy F62 is powered by the Exynos 9825 chipset that promises to deliver fast performance, rivalling its competitors or even exceeding them. It is paired with up to 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage. In my tests, I found that the Galaxy F62 delivers smooth performance in regular usage. There were no noticeable lags or stutters in apps, browsing the internet or using the camera. Even while playing games, the performance was smooth for the most part – but after extended sessions of gaming, the phone did heat up a bit, which is fairly normal for most phones. In terms of battery life, it has a massive 7,000mAh battery that refuses to die out in a single day. With normal usage, I could easily complete two days on a single charge, which is impressive no matter what. The downside of this big battery is the weight – at 218 grams, the Galaxy F62 can seem a bit heavy, but it’s easy to get adjusted once you use it for a while. The colour reproduction is accurate and the photos have a good amount of detail. The overall package that Samsung has delivered here means the Galaxy F62 is worth considering if you are looking for a phone under ₹25,000. He said that India is now the second biggest market for Nokia and the company is exporting 5G base stations from here to other parts of the world. "The next big thing in India will be industrial digitalization, manufacturing industry 4.0 and the opportunity to use this platform that you've been building to attract more and more manufacturing, and also very importantly R&amp;D to the country," Lundmark said. Ericsson, President and CEO, Borje Ekholm said 4G helped build digital companies in the US and China like Facebook, Tencent etc and with rapid 5G rollout India will have the most modern digital infrastructure. "We saw all the big consumer applications developing over the last few years. We have seen them develop in the two countries that built out the first 4G networks in the world. That happened to be the United States and it happened to be China. Almost all jobs in the consumer sector or digitalized in the consumer were created there. "With 5G, we're going to digitize society and those jobs will be created in the country where the digital infrastructure is built first. With the pace India is building out 5G, it will have the most modern digital infrastructure in the world," Ekholm said. Both Ericsson and Nokia pitched for the world to follow a global standard to keep the cost of technology lower otherwise it will hurt economies of scale, digital inclusion of rural masses and the global economy. General Atlantic (India), Managing Director, Sandeep Naik said that India is a top-growing economy and foreign direct investment worth USD 100 billion is estimated to flow in India over the next 10 years. "In terms of private capital entering India, we did around USD 40 billion in 2021, I see that easily going over USD 100 billion in the next five years. I think that is a conservative number in terms of private capital coming into the country. As General Atlantic, we will have a fair share of that market," Naik said. Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer has said he sees such phones - of which Nokia shipped more than 50 million last quarter - as an entree to more expensive fare.
"We look at that as an excellent feeder system into the smartphone world and a way to touch people with our services even on much lower-end devices in many parts of the world," he said in a conference call to analysts on Tuesday.
But analysts warn that's easier said than done.
The problem, said Jayanth Kolla, partner at Convergence Catalyst, an India-based telecom research and advisory firm, is that Microsoft simply lacks Nokia's retail and supply chain experience in the Finnish company's most important markets.
"The devices business, especially the non-smartphones business in emerging markets, is a completely different dynamic," he said.
Kolla pointed to the need to manage tight supply chains, distribution, and building brands through word-of-mouth. "Microsoft doesn't have it in its DNA to run operations at this level," he said.
India is a case in point. Nokia has been there since the mid 1990s and the country accounted for 7 percent of its 2012 revenue while the United States generated just 6 percent, according to Thomson Reuters data. Its India roots run deep: it has a presence in 200,000 outlets, 70,000 of which sell only its devices. One of its biggest plants in the world is in the southern city of Chennai.
For sure, Nokia has slipped in India as elsewhere: After nearly two decades as the market leader it was unseated by Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in overall sales last quarter.
But it still sold more of its more basic feature phones.
As recently as last October, market research company Nielsen ranked it the top handset brand. The Economic Times ranked it the country's third most trusted brand.
<h3>LOYALTY RUNS DEEP</h3>
In a land of frequent power cuts and rugged roads, the sturdiness and longer battery life of Nokia's phones have won it a loyal fan base - some of whom have stayed loyal when trading up.
Take Sunil Sachdeva, a Delhi-based executive, who has stuck with Nokia since his first phone. He has just bought his fifth: an upgrade to the Nokia Lumia smartphone running Microsoft's mobile operating system.
"Technology-wise they are still the best," he said of Nokia.
But Microsoft can't take such loyalty for granted. Challenging it and Samsung are local players such as Karbonn and Micromax, which are churning out smartphones running Google Inc's Android operating system for as little as $50.
Such players are also denting Nokia's efforts to build its Asha brand, touchscreen devices perched somewhere between a feature phone and a smartphone.
Nokia shipped 4.3 million Asha phones globally in the second quarter of this year, down from 5.0 million the previous quarter.
"The sales performance of the Asha line has been quite poor," said Sameer Singh, Hyderabad-based analyst at BitChemy Ventures, an investor in local startups. "With increasing competition from the low-end smartphone vendors, I'm unsure how long that business will last."
That leaves the cheap seats. Singh estimates that the Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa accounted for two-thirds of Nokia's feature phone volumes in the last quarter, at an average selling price of between 25 to 30 euros ($32.99 to $39.59).
"I don't see how Microsoft can really leverage this volume," he said. "The market is extremely price sensitive and margins are racing into negative territory."
<h3>TOO BIG TO IGNORE</h3>
The quandary for Microsoft is that while the basic phone market may be declining, it may simply be too big to ignore.
"If you look at markets like India and Indonesia, more than 70 percent of the volume comes from the feature phone business," Anshul Gupta, principal research analyst at Gartner said. "It's still a significant part of the overall market."
That means that if Microsoft wants to herd this market up the value chain to its Windows phones, it needs to keep the Nokia and Asha brands afloat - while also narrowing the price gap between its smartphones and the feature phones and cheap smartphones.
Microsoft has hinted that lowering prices of smartphones would be a priority. The Windows Phone series includes the top-end Lumia 1020, which comes with a 41-megapixel camera, while it also sells simpler models such as the Lumia 610 and 620 aimed at first-time smartphone buyers.
"The lower price phone is a strategic initiative for the next Windows Phone release," Terry Myerson, vice president of operating systems said on the same conference call, while declining to provide details.
An option for Microsoft, analysts said, would be to shoe-horn services like Bing search, Outlook webmail and Skype, the Internet telephony and messaging application, into the lower-end phones as a way to drive traffic to those services and make the devices more appealing.
"So you can bundle services with these low-end products and that way you can reach a wider audience," said Finland-based Nordea Markets analyst Sami Sarkamies.
But in the meantime Microsoft needs to brace for assault on all fronts as emerging market rivals see an opportunity to eat further into Nokia's market share. In India, said Convergent Catalyst's Kolla, cheap local Android brands have been held back by Nokia's strong promotion of its mid-tier Asha brand.

The phone’s design is inspired by the Lumia series (which are known for using Windows Phone OS) and will be available in an array of colours. The company claims that the phone will give the user talk time of 13.3 hours and can stay awake for 28 days in standby mode. 
 Nokia has introduced a ripped down version of Android on this phone that will not have any <keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> services on it. Even the app store is different. At MWC 2014, Nokia showcased two more phones (Nokia X+ and Nokia XL) along with Nokia X. There is no news of the other two being launched at the same time. However, we might just see a glimpse of the next two in the ‘X series’ of phones by Nokia at the event on 10 March.

In a bid to strengthen its popular C-series portfolio of smartphones, HMD Global, the home of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/nokia-launches-rugged-xr20-smartphone-in-india-starting-at-46999/articleshow/87107413.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">Nokia</a> phones, on Thursday unveiled budget-friendly <keyword id="11223489" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nokia-c30" source="Orion">Nokia C30</keyword> in two storage variants. The Nokia C30 comes in 3GB+32GB and 4GB+64GB for Rs 10,999 and Rs 11,999 respectively, across leading offline retail stores, e-commerce platforms and Nokia.com. It is available in green and white colour options. "The new Nokia C30 is the most powerful addition to our C-series range, and it epitomizes what this range stands for -- a holistic smartphone experience at an accessible price point," Sanmeet Singh Kochhar, Vice President, HMD Global, said in a statement. "The Nokia C30 is an answer to what people have been asking for - more time between charges, bigger screen, our signature security and durability, and an accessible price point," Kochhar added. The smartphone features a 6.82-inch HD+ display and 6,000 mAh battery that the company said can last up to three days on single charge. It also sports a 13MP dual camera. Customers who choose to avail the JioExclusive offer will get an instant price support of 10 per cent or a maximum of Rs 1,000 on the best buy price, and will have to pay Rs 9,999 and 10999 for the 3GB and 4GB variant, respectively.
