Experts noted that India needs measures on both fiscal and monetary fronts to boost growth. 34 of Nifty50 stocks saw declines, while the remaining 16 saw advances. On Sensex, only 4 scrips ended their day in the green, while 26 others remained in red. "Happy Diwali and Shubh Samvat 2081. So far this month, FIIs have offloaded a staggering Rs 1,08,632.59 crore worth of stocks in <keyword id="19991358" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-markets" source="keywords">Indian markets</keyword>. DIIs, on the other hand, purchased Rs 1,03,740.09 crore worth of stocks during the month. Rajesh Bhosale, Equity Technical Analyst, Angel One, explained that as October concluded, it marked a challenging month for bulls, erasing gains accumulated over the past two months, with Nifty dropping more than 6%, one of the steepest monthly declines in recent times, which has impacted the monthly chart's structure. "Throughout the week, the 24,100–24,000 zone provided some support due to oversold conditions, but the index faced persistent resistance on attempted rebounds. Despite multiple efforts, prices couldn’t surpass the 24,500 level. A strong close above this range is needed before considering aggressive positions, as the market seems poised for a phase of high volatility, he continued. "The banking sector, which has shown relative strength but stalled at key levels, will be crucial in determining the market’s next move. Traders should keep a close eye on this sector for guidance. Notably, the week saw improved market breadth with several individual stocks posting notable gains. However, a selective approach remains essential in this volatile environment", continued Bhosale. The immediate focus is on the core personal consumption expenditures (PCE) data due later in the day to assess the Fed's policy stance ahead of the next rate decision on Nov 7. Traders see a nearly 95% chance of a quarter-basis-point Fed rate cut next week, the CME FedWatch tool showed.

Notably, this was the worst weekly run experienced by the markets over the last 14 months. Clearly, the markets are not in the mood to embrace the impending festivities. Only 12 out of 50 stocks on the Nifty50 advanced today, while the other 38 declined. It was no different on the BSE, where an astounding 3,101 stocks slipped during the day, while just 841 inched up. Smallcaps bore the biggest brunt of this drawdown, with the smallcap 100, 50, 250, and microcaps each sliding by over 2% during the day. Amidst sectors, media, metal, PSU banks, consumer durables, and oil and gas skidded over 2% each today. During the trading hours today, the Nifty touched its record high at 25,174.55 and the Sensex rose to 82,220.68. Both the benchmarks closed near their <keyword id="19919943" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="record-highs" source="keywords">record highs</keyword>, with the <keyword id="20641216" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty-50" source="keywords">Nifty 50</keyword> advancing for the 12th consecutive session. Key movers on the NSE Nifty 50 included Tata Motors, Bajaj Finserv, Britannia Industries, Bajaj Finance, and BPCL. "The monthly expiry day was a roller-coaster ride for participants, ultimately ending on a positive note. Nifty started flat but gradually moved higher in the first half. However, sharp swings in the latter half kept traders on their toes. Sector-wise, mixed trends persisted, with auto, FMCG, and energy emerging as the top gainers, while the pharma and metal sectors saw some profit-taking. The disappointment was the underperformance of the broader indices," said Ajit Mishra - SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd. observing today's market. "In the past six months, we've seen Nifty consistently breaking all-time highs, and I believe this rally still has room to run. While a short-term pullback is possible, the overall upward momentum is likely to continue, potentially pushing Nifty and Sensex to even higher levels," Vinnaayak Mehta, Founder &amp; Managing Partner The Infinity Group. Later this week, the markets will be reading the first quarter GDP data which is scheduled on Friday. The Reserve Bank of India, in its latest monetary policy meeting, projected GDP growth for 2024-25 at 7.2 per cent, with growth for Q1 expected at 7.1 per cent. India's GDP grew by an impressive 8.2 per cent during the financial year 2023-24, continuing to be the fastest-growing major economy.

Sensex, Nifty close near their record highs on Wednesday

Benchmark indices <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> and Sensex recovered from their losses last week to close in greens on Monday. While Sensex inched up over 690 points to close at 79,476.63 points, Nifty closed the day over the 24k mark, at 24,213.30, up by 217 points. During the day, Sensex had soared 740.89 points, or 0.94%, to touch 79,523.13 points. From the 30-share Sensex pack, JSW Steel surged nearly 5% while Tata Steel jumped nearly 4%. Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and UltraTech Cement were also among the big gainers. On the other hand, Tech Mahindra, Lupin, Britannia, and Infosys were among the major laggards on Sensex. On Nifty, where 39 stocks advanced during the day and the remaining 11 saw declines, Tata Steel, Hindalco, and JSW Steel were among the top gainers. Adani Ports, ITC, Bharti Airtel, and Asian Paints were among the leading laggards. In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory, while Seoul ended lower. Yesterday, the BSE benchmark tumbled 941.88 points, or 1.18%, to settle at 78,782.24, the lowest closing level since August 6. The Nifty had also tanked 309 points, or 1.27%, to close at 23,995.35. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued with their hefty exodus, offloading equities worth Rs 4,329.79 crore today, according to exchange data. So far in November, DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have put in Rs 2,558.75 crore in Indian markets. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.60% to $75.53 a barrel today. <h2>Banks, metals lead the party</h2> Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, explains that while bears dominated the first half of trading session by dragging the index lower; it was the banking counters that led to a sharp up move and pushed the index higher from its previous session's low. The Metal stocks also joined the party and pushed the index further higher to end the session at 24,213.30 with gains of 217.95 points. Mid and smallcaps also advanced but underperformed the frontline index", he added. Today's rally was largely led by banking scrips. The BSE Bankex jumped a staggering 1,218.58 points during the day. On NSE, both banks and financial services indices inched up by 1.94% and 1.98% respectively during the day. While PSU bank counters were up by 1.84%, private banks surged ahead with a 1.94% growth during the day. Metals were amidst the highest gainers, rising 2.84% during the day. All broad market indices closed the day in green, except for India VIX, which tumbled 4.08%.

Recent market volatility, triggered by geopolitical concerns and signals indicating a cautious stance from the Federal Reserve regarding interest rate adjustments, has kept investors vigilant." PMI data released on Tuesday reinforced expectations that the European Central Bank (ECB) is likely to commence policy easing soon. Private-sector activity surged to nearly a year-high, buoyed by a strong services sector and Germany's return to growth. “Domestic equity benchmarks on Tuesday, continued to rise for the third day in a row, buoyed by strong global market trends. The volatility index, India VIX, fell by 19.72% to settle at 10.20, indicating low volatility in the market. Finally, the Nifty closed the day on a positive note at 22,368. Technically, after the strong pullback rally, the index is likely to pause near 22,500-22,530 levels. If the index sustains above 22,530, the Nifty could attempt to break its all-time high of 22,776; otherwise, the index could witness consolidation in the 22,000-22,500 zone. The short-term support levels for Nifty are at 22,200 and 22,000, while resistance levels are 22,450 and 22,530," said Asit C Mehta Investment Interrmediates. ECB Vice President Luis de Guindos suggested that a rate cut in June is highly probable, barring any unforeseen economic developments, leading to a rise in the euro against the dollar. Treasuries remained stable ahead of upcoming bond auctions, despite yields reaching their highest levels in 2024. In the UK, the 10-year yield saw a slight uptick following the government's decision to increase the planned bond issuance for the fiscal year, contributing to one of the largest gilt packages on record. Gold prices continued their decline amid reduced geopolitical tensions and indications of a prolonged period of higher interest rates by the Fed. Oil prices edged higher amidst ongoing developments between Israel and Iran, with signs of easing tensions following recent confrontations. "The Bank Nifty was clearly an underperforming sector as compared to Nifty in today’s trading session. On expected lines, it respected our mentioned resistance zone of 48,000-200 in the last couple of days and marginal profit booking was witnessed after testing the same.Presently, it is trading near a crucial resistance zone of 48,000 to 48,200 levels and we believe that Bank nifty would further outperform only if it is able to decisively close above this resistance zone or else profit booking is likely from the current levels," said Tejas Shah, Technical Research, JM Financial and BlinkX. Nifty sees modest gain, Sensex inches higher; Market sentiment remains cautious amid global developments

Along with a sharp correction in mid and small-cap stocks, even large-cap stocks came under selling pressure. Frenzied selling was seen towards the end of the session and Sensex was dragged down by 906 points to settle at 72,761 Nifty too fell below the 22,000 mark as it shed 338 points to settle at 21,997. "It seems like largecaps have joined the correction in smallcaps and midcaps which have been under severe selling pressure in the last few days. Nifty has a derivatives support at 22,000 so any sustenance below the same should be taken as an indication of caution for longs," said <keyword id="19950185" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rahul-sharma" source="keywords">Rahul Sharma</keyword>, head-technical and derivatives research at JM Financial Services. Investors turned negative on PSU, metal, real estate and power stocks. Nifty FMCG was the only sectoral index that closed marginally in the green. ITC was amongst the top gainers on both Nifty and BSE, gaining as much as 4%. ICICI Bank, Kotak Bank, Bajaj Finance and Cipla were the other top gainers on Nifty50. “The only silver lining today has been in select private banks and FMCG stocks which have held their ground amidst a market-wide selloff," added Sharma. The top losers on Nifty are mostly PSUs like Power Grid and Coal India, which shed over 7% of their value, and <keyword id="19903558" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ntpc" source="keywords">NTPC</keyword> fell by 6.7%. Adani stocks like Adani Enterprises and Adani Ports also fell by over 6%. ‘Valuations affecting small-caps, not fundamentals ’ Small and midcaps, however, slipped much higher with <keyword id="19994732" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty-midcap" source="keywords">Nifty Midcap</keyword> 100 falling by 4.4% and <keyword id="20118967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty-smallcap" source="keywords">Nifty Smallcap</keyword> 100 falling by 5.2%. They have been correcting for the last few days, but today’s fall was much sharper. “There have been concerns over the rising valuations of mid and small-rung stocks for a while, and with the regulator too highlighting these concerns, traders preferred to trim their exposure which resulted in a massive correction across the board,” observed <keyword id="20226500" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="prashanth-tapse" source="keywords">Prashanth Tapse</keyword>, senior VP of research at Mehta Equities. Experts believe that while small and midcap stocks have good potential, they have risen too high to sustain at these levels. “Unfavourable risk-reward balance of mid and small-cap stocks, fuelled by prolonged premium valuations, has aggravated the downfall. Other than the premium valuation no fundamental issue is noticed to drawback the long-term growth image of domestic midcaps,” said <keyword id="19969359" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="vinod-nair" source="keywords">Vinod Nair</keyword>, head of research at Geojit Financial Services. A 'caution for longs', warn experts, as Sensex tanks by 906 points, Nifty by 338

It was an all-red show on both the bourses today, with Sensex tanking 941.88 points to close the day at 78,782.24 points. <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> followed suit, dipping around 309 points to close at 23,995.35 points, hitting a 4-month low. <keyword id="20110975" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="india-vix" source="keywords">India VIX</keyword>, which gauges volatility and fear prevalent in the market, rose by over 5% during the day. Out of the 50 stocks in Nifty, 42 declined during the day, while 8 advanced. A similar bloodbath was seen on Sensex, which saw only 6 of its constituents inch up today, while another 24 dipped by as much as 3%. Says Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, “The bears dominated today's trade. In the opening trade itself, the index breached its psychological support of 24,000 with ease and continued to trade lower; however, in the last trading session, a meaningful recovery was seen that helped the index to settle the trade at 23,995.35 points.”. “All the sectors ended the day in red, with <keyword id="20304716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="realty" source="keywords">Realty</keyword> (down by 2.93%) and Energy (down by 2.48%) being corrected the most. In the broader markets, the disparity was observed where the midcap moved in line with the frontline index while small-caps underperformed.” Amidst broader indices, the midcap 100 fell by 1.26%, while the smallcap 100 index dipped by 1.97%. Amidst the constituents of Nifty50, only 3 stocks advanced today, while 47 others saw declines. Aditya Gaggar, Director of Progressive Shares, highlights that almost all the sectors ended in the red, with PSU Banks and Realty being the major laggards. "The weak link of the markets, i.e., mid- and small-caps, tumbled by 2.61% and 3.92% and underperformed the frontline index. Considering the oversold conditions in the mid- and small-cap segments, a short-term bounce can be expected in the markets, which may push the index higher, but the upside seems to be capped at 24,670". Rajesh Bhosale, equity technical analyst at Angel One, cautions traders against taking long positions until there are clear signs of a bullish reversal. "The midcap space, in particular, saw a sharp decline, breaking below key support levels, signaling more pain ahead—bottom-fishing in this sector should be avoided for now," he added. Investor wealth worth Rs 8.98 lakh crore was wiped off the markets today, with the BSE m-cap dipping from Rs 453.65 lakh crore yesterday to Rs 444.66 crore today. Broader mid- and small-cap indices saw their worst losses since August, riding on the back of disappointing earnings and cautious management guidance for the upcoming quarters. As such, hefty profit-booking ensued to make the most of still elevated valuations. <h2>FIIs on a heavy selling spree</h2> The massacre in the markets comes amidst heavy offloading of stakes by FIIs (<keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-institutional-investors" source="keywords">foreign institutional investors</keyword>). Data suggests so far this month, FIIs have offloaded a staggering Rs 82,479.73 crore in Indian markets. DIIs (<keyword id="20234284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-institutional-investors" source="keywords">domestic institutional investors</keyword>) have been trying to maintain some semblance and balance in the markets, having bought 77,402.11 crore worth of assets in the Indian markets. However, that has proved insufficient for maintaining the positive momentum of the markets. The last time Indian markets had witnessed such intense selling was in 2021–22, i.e., during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from NSDL suggests that during this period, FPIs had sold Rs 1,22,242 crore worth of assets in the Indian markets. Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, highlights that mid- and small-caps bore the brunt of earnings disappointments, as these are also the segments most stretched on many valuation metrics. "Growth slowdown concerns, along with uncertainty on rate cut timing, act as a double whammy for equity markets, especially after recent inflation data surprised sharply to the upside," he added. Looking ahead, the markets will continue to focus on the earnings announcements. Investors will look to the RBI's monetary policy meeting minutes tomorrow and the HSBC Manufacturing, Services, and Composite PMI data on Thursday for further signals to act upon.

Carnage on D-Street as Sensex and Nifty tumble by over 1%, investors lose Rs 13 lakh crore in 2 days

New Delhi, Asset management companies launched 212 <keyword id="20372350" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="new-fund-offerings" source="keywords">new fund offerings</keyword> mobilising Rs 63,854 crore in 2023, marginally higher from previous year, on the back of significant uptrends in broader markets. In comparison, Asset Management Companies (AMCs) garnered Rs 62,187 crore through 228 New Fund Offerings (NFOs) in 2022. Further, they collected Rs 99,704 crore in 2021 and Rs 53,703 crore in 2020, according to data compiled by <keyword id="20372349" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="morningstar-india" source="keywords">Morningstar India</keyword>. "The trend towards the financialisation of assets in India is unmistakable. Aligned with changing consumption behaviours and a need for a higher standard of living, investors recognise the importance of long-term investing. The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the necessity for financial planning and the creation of liquid assets to address emergencies and pave the way for wealth-building," FYERS Research said in its report. It further said that "despite indices exhibiting strength, propelled by robust economic activity, steady <keyword id="19951327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="gst" source="keywords">GST</keyword> collections, and confidence in government reforms and policies, anticipating a similar outperformance in 2024 may not be prudent. Valuations across various market capitalisations look elevated, advocating a cautious approach to direct equities in the short term". As per the FYERS report, the January-March period of 2023 saw the highest number of NFOs at 57. However, the peak fund mobilisation occurred in the July-September period, totalling Rs 22,049 crore. Additionally, 29 thematic or sectoral funds raised an aggregate of Rs 17,946 crore in 2023. With an increased risk appetite for equities and awareness of products and offerings, retail investors opted for higher-risk products like thematic and sectoral funds compared to other products. Usually, NFOs come during a surging market when investor sentiments are high and optimistic. The NFOs were floated to capitalise on the mood of investors and attract their investment as they were willing to invest at that time. Industry experts said that the stock market performance along with the positive investor sentiments led to higher fund mobilisation through NFOs in 2023. In the year 2023, Nifty 50 index delivered a return of 20 per cent, majorly supported by earnings growth. <keyword id="19994732" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty-midcap" source="keywords">Nifty Midcap</keyword> and <keyword id="20118967" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nifty-smallcap" source="keywords">Nifty Smallcap</keyword> indices recorded impressive returns of 47 per cent and 56 per cent, respectively. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) infused a substantial Rs 1.7 lakh crore into the market and the infusion played a pivotal role in propelling Indian equities beyond the USD 4 trillion market capitalization milestone. Overall, the mutual fund industry saw a net inflow of Rs 2.74 lakh crore in 2023 as compared to an inflow of over Rs 71,000 crore in the preceding year. The huge inflow could be on the back of sustained investors' interest in equity funds, arbitrage funds, and index funds &amp; ETFs. Debt schemes experienced a net outflow of Rs 46,100 crore last year, while equity schemes saw substantial inflows of Rs 1.62 lakh crore, closely followed by hybrid category schemes at Rs 93,208 crore.

Mutual funds collects ₹63,854 cr via new fund offers in 2023

Both mid-cap and small-cap mutual fund schemes have continued to attract significant investor interest, having garnered about Rs 30,350 crore in inflows during the April-September period of the current financial year. Last year, as data from <keyword id="6359050" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="AMFI" source="Orion">AMFI</keyword> showed, the total inflows in both these segments during the same period were only marginally higher at Rs 32,924 crore. Data from Value Research suggests that mid-cap funds have generated 46.25% returns over the past year, while small-cap funds have yielded returns worth 44.17% during the same time. This is far better than their 3-year returns, which stand at 20.67% for midcaps and 21.64% for smallcaps. The returns further moderate over 5 years to 32.44% for small caps and 27.94% for midcaps. Inflows in mid- and small-cap funds have only grown from strength to strength during the current year, despite market watchdog <keyword id="35210" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SEBI" source="Orion">SEBI</keyword> repeatedly highlighting the high risks both these categories entail. Between January and March 2024, small-cap funds saw inflows worth Rs 6,085.27 crore, while mid-cap funds were a little behind, garnering inflows worth Rs 4,887.05 crore. Between April and June this year, small-caps saw inflows worth Rs 7,196.8 crore. At the same time, midcaps saw inflows worth Rs 6,926.60 crore. In line with this increase in inflows, the number of investors (folios) in the two schemes shot up by 1.32 crore year-on-year to nearly 4 crore in the six-month period ended September 30, 2024. Since 2020, the small-cap universe (i.e., companies with a market cap of less than Rs 2000 crores) has grown nearly fourfold, offering investors a wide range of investment opportunities. Data from Trust Mutual Fund also shows that small-cap funds have also emerged as great generators of long-term wealth. Between August 2014 and August 2024, the <keyword id="6354813" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nifty" source="Orion">Nifty</keyword> 100 total return index (TRI) has yielded a CAGR of 14.7%. In contrast, the Nifty smallcap 250 TRI has registered a CAGR of 18.2% "Small caps will continue to grow at a faster rate for years to come. I expect the inflows to continue as Indians want to invest in the high-growth sectors. Small-cap funds should be seen as an integral part of one's portfolio allocation and not a tactical play," Trust Mutual Fund CEO Sandeep Bagla told PTI. Individually, mid-cap funds saw an inflow of Rs 14,756 crore, and small-cap funds attracted Rs 15,586 crore in the first half of FY25. This aggregates the total inflow to Rs 30,342 crore, the data showed. In addition, the stress test in March 2024 has also played a role, reinforcing confidence by ensuring that fund managers are prepared to handle market volatility, Feroze Azeez, Deputy CEO, Anand Rathi Wealth Ltd, said. "With the mid-cap and small-cap segments projected to grow at 20 percent and 25 percent, respectively, in FY25, we expect inflows to remain strong, especially as SIP inflows continue to hit new peaks," he told media.

On the weekly front, the BSE benchmark jumped 1,279.56 points or 1.57 per cent, and the Nifty soared 412.75 points or 1.66 per cent. In nine days of rally, the BSE benchmark surged 1,941.09 points or 2.41 per cent. The Nifty zoomed 1,096.9 points or 4.54 per cent in 12 sessions. "Nifty ended higher on Friday for the twelfth consecutive session, its best winning streak since its launch in 1996. Global shares mostly rose Friday as markets continued to be moderately optimistic about the prospects of technology companies helped by the prospect of lower interest rates amid signs of moderating inflation across the developed world," said Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities. Among the 30 Sensex firms, Bajaj Finance, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, NTPC, Power Grid, Bajaj Finserv, Bharti Airtel and Tata Consultancy Services were the biggest gainers. On the other hand, Tata Motors, HDFC Bank, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra and ITC were among the laggards. In the broader <keyword id="19913381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market" source="keywords">market</keyword>, the BSE smallcap gauge jumped 0.75 per cent, and the midcap index climbed 0.53 per cent. All indices ended higher. Realty surged 1.88 per cent, healthcare jumped 1.41 per cent, utilities (0.77 per cent), commodities (0.70 per cent), teck (0.63 per cent) and services (0.61 per cent). Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth Rs 3,259.56 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data. Domestic Institutional Investors lapped up equities worth Rs 2,690.85 crore. "Continuation of accumulation of quality large-caps by the DIIs (Domestic Institutional Investors) and HNIs and the FIIs reducing their selling significantly and buying on certain days have contributed to the resilience of the market," said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. Global oil benchmark Brent crude climbed 0.08 per cent to USD 80 a barrel. "Though the domestic market is currently showing a positive bias, the Indian Q1 GDP growth is expected to be moderate, while premium valuation and a lack of fresh triggers could see further momentum buildup in value stocks," Nair said. The BSE benchmark jumped 349.05 points or 0.43 per cent to settle at an all-time closing high of 82,134.61 on Thursday, extending its winning momentum to the eighth day in a row. Rallying for the 11th straight session, the Nifty surged 99.60 points or 0.40 per cent to settle at a new closing high of 25,151.95. "Moody's upgraded India's GDP rating forecast to 7.2 per cent for 2024 and to 6.6 per cent for 2025 (earlier estimates of 6.8 per cent and 6.4 per cent) on back strong broad-based growth. This, along with healthy MSCI inflow, took markets to new highs. "We expect the market to continue its northbound journey with stock-specific action. Global macro data, which will be released during the week will continue to provide cues to domestic equities. Sector-wise, Auto will remain in focus as OEMs will announce their monthly sales numbers," Siddhartha Khemka, Head - Research, Wealth Management, Motilal Oswal Financial Services Ltd, said.

In the morning trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex scaled the 85,000 level, jumping 234.62 points or 0.27% to scale a new all-time intra-day peak of 85,163.23. The index, however, hit a low of 84,716.07 in the afternoon session due to profit-taking at record levels. Selling in <keyword id="20002610" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Hindustan-Unilever" source="keywords">Hindustan Unilever</keyword>, Kotak Mahindra Bank and <keyword id="19900482" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICICI-Bank" source="keywords">ICICI Bank</keyword> dragged the key index from the day's highs. The Nifty eked out gains of 1.35 points or 0.01% to close at a fresh high of 25,940.40. During the day, it climbed 72.5 points or 0.27% to hit a new record intra-day high of 26,011.55. Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said, "Domestic benchmarks are attempting to sustain new highs, driven by the US Fed's aggressive rate cut. Meanwhile, the Chinese central bank's rate cut, and additional stimulus measures have positively influenced global investor sentiment, resulting in gains for domestic metal stocks." Conversely, FMCG and banking stocks exhibited declines due to profit-booking at higher levels, he said, adding that in the near term, strong inflows from FIIs, driven by the US Fed's dovish outlook and expectations of a rate cut by the RBI in October, are expected to maintain momentum. From the 30 Sensex firms, Hindustan Unilever, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, IndusInd Bank, Titan, Nestle, Bajaj Finance and Asian Paints were among the biggest laggards. Tata Steel, Power Grid, Tech Mahindra, HCL Tech, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra and JSW Steel were among the gainers. The BSE midcap gauge climbed 0.21% while the smallcap index dipped 0.04%. Among the indices, FMCG declined by 0.75%, telecommunication (0.57%), services (0.45%), financial services (0.40%), consumer durables (0.31%) and bankex (0.30%). “Technically, the index is oscillating within a rising channel and is trading near the upper trend line resistance of the channel pattern, which is around the range of 25,900-26,000 levels, making them a strong hurdle in the short term. Therefore, on the upside, 26,000 will act as an immediate hurdle for Nifty. If the index sustains above 26,000 it could test the levels of 26,200. On the downside, 25,600 will serve as strong support for the index,” said Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP Technical and Derivatives Research, Asit C. Mehta Investment Interrmediates. Metal surged 2.78%, power jumped 1.38%, utilities (1.18%), commodities (0.95%) and industrials (0.47%). "Although markets ended on a lacklustre note after a volatile session, key benchmark indices hit new milestones signifying that liquidity flows has remained strong as investors are confident of India's long term growth story," said Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd. "Nifty ended on a flat note in a volatile session on Tuesday after crossing 26,000 for the first time. Asian stocks rose on Tuesday to their highest in more than two and half years, heartened by broad stimulus measures from China while expectations for more US rate cuts kept risk sentiment up," Deepak Jasani, Head of Retail Research, HDFC Securities, said. In Asian markets, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong settled in the positive territory. Shanghai and Hong Kong markets ended significantly higher. European markets were trading in the green. The US markets ended higher on Monday. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) bought equities worth ₹404.42 crore on Monday, according to exchange data. S&amp;P Global Ratings on Tuesday retained India's growth forecast at 6.8% for the current fiscal and said it expects the RBI to start cutting interest rates in its October monetary policy review. Global oil benchmark Brent crude jumped 2.35% to $75.64 a barrel. Rallying for the third day running on Monday, the BSE benchmark jumped 384.30 points or 0.45% to settle at an all-time high of 84,928.61.
