China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) on Thursday granted commercial 5G licences to the country's three telecommunications network operators and the nation's cable network giant, signalling major new investments in the world's largest mobile market amid a raging tech war with the United States. Hong Kong-listed carriers <keyword id="133270" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="China-Mobile">China Mobile</keyword>, China Unicom and <keyword id="154965" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="China-Telecom">China Telecom</keyword>, as well as China Broadcasting Network, were each awarded a licence to run commercial 5G services, according to MIIT. Reliance Industries will sell a 3.1% stake in <keyword id="187715" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Network18">Network18</keyword> Media pegged at $32 million. This is to comply with rules authorizing public ownership in listed firms. 
 
Reliance said today that the sale of 32.5 million shares on Wednesday would help it meet the minimum 25% public ownership regulation. 
 
Reliance bought a stake in the media group last year. The media group currently runs business news channels, a news portal and other news and e-commerce websites. 
 
The stake is valued at $32 million. Reliance plans to sell its shares through stock exchanges.

Citing market conditions are sluggish, <keyword id="397813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Viom-Networks">Viom Networks</keyword> has delayed its Initial Public Offering (IPO) from December this year to March-April 2016. 
 
The board of Telecom tower operator Viom Networks will meet in August and take a final call on the IPO. 
 
Sunil Kanoria, director at Viom, told Economic Times, “Even if the board decides on an IPO, it is unlikely before March 2016 as market conditions are not favourable now." 
 
Industry officials told the financial daily that Viom was mulling an IPO by December this year in a bid to fund growth plans. Viom’s talks to sell controlling stake to American Tower Corp (ATC) had failed due to valuations. 
 
Now, the telecom tower operator was looking to raise a shade over Rs 1,000 crore to fund tower site expansion amid surging carrier demand for data sites and open an exit route for stakeholders keen to cash out. 
 ET reported that <keyword id="6359475" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Teleservices">Tata Teleservices</keyword> has 54% in Viom while Kolkata-based Srei holds 18.5%. The remaining ones are owned by few private equity firms. 
 
Sources told ET that Viom was even pushing for an enterprise value of nearly 12 times its EBITDA, or earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation &amp; amortisation, a key profitability indicator. 
 
A company executive told ET, “Viom is in no tearing hurry to do the IPO because its internal accruals are strong and its EBITDA is at Rs 2,000 crore annually. But the company needs to expand its tower capacity to meet expected boom in demand.” 
 
Meanwhile, Viom is expecting an additional demand of nearly two lakh data sites over next 18 months as mobile carriers are splurging on 3G networks and Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio Infocomm is due to launch 4G services by December. 
 
Stock market is not buoyant. On Wednesday, market bellwether Bombay Stock Exchange Sensex closed 484 points, or 1.72%, down from its previous close in response to massive plunge in Chinese stock markets.

According to the company, it has earned a net profit of about Rs 1,520.41 crore last fiscal up from a net profit of about Rs 1,371.83 crore logged in FY20. Sun TV's total revenue was about Rs 3,388.03 crore last year, down from Rs 3,653.35 crore earned in FY20. The advertisement revenues for the year was at Rs 994.03 crore as against Rs 1,336.91crore for the previous year ended March 31, 2020. The subscription revenues for the year were up about 10 per cent at about Rs 1,721.48 crore, as against about Rs 1,562.23 crore for the previous year ended March 31, 2020. It has changed the way we live, work, study, consume content and shop. The lockdown has also meant people are now spending more time at home, consuming content on different platforms. Television viewership has gained massively. Viewership in the kids’ genre too has seen an obvious uptick, with children being stuck at home. Data from Broadcast Audience Research Council (<keyword id="65298" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BARC">BARC</keyword>) India earlier this year had revealed that the viewership of kids’ genre had increased by 20% during the pandemic. Non primetime kids viewing grew by 31% during the peak lockdown in 2020 compared to 2019. This spike in viewership has also led to channels in the genre to up their content game. We recently caught up with Abhishek Dutta, South Asia Network Head for Cartoon Network and POGO, to understand the impact the pandemic has had on the channel, its content strategy and the launch of its new superhero indigenous show. The pandemic effect While a lot of other traditional medium struggled, people being stuck at home worked in favor of TV, and the kids’ genre gained from this too. While advertising spends did suffer in the initial months, things started turning in the later half of the year, specially during the festive season. On how it has been for Cartoon Network and POGO, Dutta said, “Both 2020 and 2021 have been favorable for us. We have launched two local IPs for the kids this summer. Now we are going to launch ‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’ which is India’s newest, homegrown tech-savvy superhero. Cartoon Network and Pogo are the only network channels in the kids category that have executed six new local shows during the pandemic in India. Covid has had an obvious impact on our business. The second wave has also come with its own challenges but we are seeing growth coming back and hopefully we'll have a better second half. In 2021, the kids genre has registered growth and the months of January to April also witnessed an upside in ad spends, when compared to 2020. The importance of local IPs <keyword id="1617156" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Localization">Localization</keyword> has been a critical part of both the channel’s growth in India. The new show, ‘Ekans - Ek Se Badhkar Snake’, created in-house and produced by Kolkata-based studio Hi-Tech Animation, joins the existing portfolio of popular homegrown IPs by WarnerMedia India including ‘Dabangg - The Animated Series’ on Cartoon Network; ‘Titoo – Har Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu’ and ‘Smashing Simmba’ on the companion channel POGO. Meanwhile, the effort has also been to create content that is relevant globally too. “Today, kids demand content that is fresh, unique, local and something that resonates with them. They don’t just seek entertaining and engaging content, relatability is one of the most important factors in kids viewership today. Which is why we are confident about our new show which has all the elements that kids today are looking for, its about a superhero and the show combines mystical elements and India's heritage while adding elements of science fiction. All these aspects make it an interesting storyline. We believe the underlying impact of the show will also be to let kids know that it is acceptable to have fears and conquer them as well. Our message through the show is, every child is a superhero in their own way.” Dutta also shared that there has been a steady increase in the viewership of made-in-India content because there is a lot of choice today. “Out of the top 10 shows in the category today, seven are locally produced shows. When you see the top 20 shows in the category, 15 are locally-produced. So there is a visible appetite for local content amongst kids today.” On the growth path Throwing light on a few things that he believes will help the channels grow further, Dutta added, “Cartoon Network has a historic, rich legacy in the kids and family space owing to vibrant shows that are loved across the globe. With the launch of a Ekans, Cartoon Network will further consolidate its leadership position as the country's pioneer and most-loved animation channel. While viewership has grown, increasingly we are witnessing demand for content that can be enjoyed as family, but that is also fresh, relevant, localized and compelling. We have already taken the lead in delivering homegrown content that resonates with this trend and we’ll continue to both acquire and create our own unique and relatable homegrown content that offers a local flavor through authentic voices, India-centric characters, and regional language features. Last year, in addition to shows like ‘Titoo – Har Jawaab Ka Sawaal Hu’ on POGO, we received an enthusiastic response to the localized thought over commentaries to our iconic global favorite the Tom and Jerry show in regional languages. Apart from this, Lamput, Cartoon Network's critically acclaimed short- form animation has continued to win hearts of the global audiences. It’s a non-dialogue chase slapstick comedy which won the Best Children's program at Asian Creative Academy Awards 2020 for the third time in a row, it was also nominated for an international kids Emmy Award, which is a first for any <keyword id="1089180" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-animation">Indian animation</keyword>.” Cartoon Network will launch its new show, 'Ekans – Ek Se Badhkar Snake' on Sunday June 27, and thereafter air from Monday to Friday, at 11:30am and 7:30pm on Cartoon Network.

Under the terms of the non-binding Term Sheet, Sony Pictures Entertainment, the parent company of SPNI, would invest growth capital so that SPNI has a cash balance of approximately USD $1.575 billion at closing for use to enhance the combined company’s digital platforms across technology and content, ability to bid for broadcasting rights in the fast-growing sports landscape and pursue other growth opportunities. Sony Pictures Entertainment would hold a majority stake in the combined company. Current ZEEL Managing Director &amp; CEO <keyword id="599253" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="punit-goenka" source="Orion">Punit Goenka</keyword> is to lead the combined company. The combined company’s board of directors would include directors nominated by <keyword id="1192557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sony-group" source="Orion">Sony Group</keyword> and result in Sony Group having the right to nominate the majority of the board members. Sony Pictures Networks India and Zee Entertainment announce merger

The current <keyword id="7616951" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="monkeypox" source="Orion">monkeypox</keyword> outbreak, which has infected 3,417 people across 42 countries, has on Thursday been declared a pandemic by <keyword id="14269330" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-health-network" source="Orion">World Health Network</keyword> (WHN), a global collaboration of scientific and citizen teams. The declaration comes ahead of the <keyword id="43588" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-health-organization" source="Orion">World Health Organization</keyword>'s (WHO) meeting on Thursday, to decide on their monkeypox outbreak designation. Citing <keyword id="14270879" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monkeypoxmeter" source="Orion">Monkeypoxmeter</keyword>, a website which tracks the infection cases in real time, the WHN said there are now 3,417 confirmed monkeypox cases reported across 58 countries, and the outbreak is rapidly expanding across multiple continents. The WHN has urged immediate action by the WHO and national <keyword id="116293" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention" source="Orion">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention</keyword> organisations to prevent monkeypox becoming a disaster. It said even though death rates are much lower than smallpox, unless concerted global action is taken to curb the ongoing spread, the infection will cause millions toA die and render many blind and disabled. "The WHO needs to urgently declare its own Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) -- the lessons of not declaring (Covid-19) a PHEIC immediately in early January 2020 should be remembered as a history lesson of what acting late on an epidemic can mean for the world," said Eric Feigl-Ding, PhD, Epidemiologist and Health Economist, and co-founder of WHN, in a statement. "There is no justification to wait for the monkeypox pandemic to grow further. The actions needed now only require clear public communication about symptoms, widely available testing, and contact tracing with very few quarantines. Any delay only makes the effort harder and the consequences more severe," added Yaneer Bar-Yam, PhD, President of New England Complex System Institute and co-founder of WHN. Until now most cases have been in adults, but any spread among children will lead to much more severe cases and more deaths. Infections of animals, especially rats and other rodents, but also pets, will make it much more difficult to stop. Passively waiting will lead to these harms without any compensating benefit. Monkeypox is a virus with the potential to cause significant harm to the public including acute painful illness that may require hospitalisation, and may result in death, skin scarring, blindness, and other long-term disability. The most vulnerable to severe disease include children, pregnant people, and people who are immunocompromised. While handing out business cards may work wonders for you at a designated networking event, the same strategy might not work in a different atmosphere. Is there a way to know what's going to work and what's going to fail?
Let's look at a few common - and some not-so-common - networking scenarios and review what your plan of action should be in each situation.
<h2 dir="ltr">1. Work events</h2>
Work events come in all shapes and sizes, from professional development courses to off-site meetings with colleagues. These events tend to be more formal and not a place where you should directly whip out your networking skills, mostly because there's a specific purpose for the event.
How to play it: Although you may know most people at a work event, you can subtly network by bringing up recent accomplishments or hurdles you've jumped. This helps people in your internal network see where you shine, and where you can help them - or someone else - in the future.
<h2 dir="ltr">2. Conferences</h2>
Conferences are a great way to meet those awesome connections who can help you expand your network. Sometimes the premise of a conference is entirely centered around networking. Other conferences are developed for you to learn more about your industry by listening to speakers, taking classes and meeting those with similar professional interests.
How to play it: This is one of those obvious networking situations where you'll need lots of business cards, copies of your resume, portfolio items, etc. Since there will be a plethora of industry members, you never know who you'll run into. It could also be a good idea to <a href="http://blog.brazencareerist.com/2013/08/05/why-your-linkedin-profile-stinks-and-how-you-should-fix-it/" target="_blank">refresh your LinkedIn</a> profile before the event so that once you connect with people you meet at the conference, they'll see your most updated information.

Events like the annual <a href="http://blog.brazencareerist.com/2012/12/20/turn-that-holiday-party-into-a-solid-networking-gig/" target="_blank">holiday party</a> or your boss's birthday don't usually scream "networking." Oftentimes, you may be too busy socializing or talking about your personal life to think about business. While these are still great conversation starters, office parties can be an awesome place to reiterate why you're a rockstar.
How to play it: Put the alcohol down and get to know colleagues you don't know too well, especially those in different departments. You don't have to brag about your accomplishments, but you can weave in your expertise. Chances are, one day they may need your skills on a project. Be memorable and show what you can do for them.
<h2 dir="ltr">4. Family events</h2>
You probably believe family events are the last place to whip out your resume and market yourself, but these events are a networking goldmine. Think about it. Your family wants you to do well in your career. It's like preaching to the choir. You just have to know what songs to sing.
How to play it: While members of your family may not work in your industry, they may know someone who does. That's why it's advisable to speed network, or chat with as many people as possible at your annual family reunion about what you do. Hand out business cards if you need to. If one of their contacts needs someone with your skills, you'll be the first person on their radar.
<h2 dir="ltr">5. Running errands</h2>
Picture this: You're at the grocery store when you see an influential member of your industry. You don't want to throw business cards at them, but you do want to make a connection. How do you approach a power player without throwing your milk on the ground and seeming too desperate?
How to play it: Introduce yourself and relay why you admire them. Try to mention a recent article they wrote or compliment them on a recent accomplishment. Then, close quickly by asking if you can sit down with them or connect on a social network. This opens the door to future conversations while downplaying what could have been <a href="http://blog.brazencareerist.com/2013/07/29/5-essential-tips-for-surviving-awkward-networking-events/" target="_blank">an awkward situation</a>.
The ability to market yourself in any given situation is a skill that needs to be honed and practiced. You never know who you'll bump into and how they could help you out in the future. Look at every situation as a chance to boost your network and provide a possible stepping stone for your career.
