The ban had resulted in Maggi, Nestle’s flagship product in India, being off the shelves for five months. <br />

"India is recovering faster than anticipated, although it still weighed on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Dynamics-have-changed-as-Indians-now-prefer-Amul-Mother-Dairy-over-Nestle-PepsiCo/articleshow/51790812.cms">Asia zone's overall performance</a>. In India, the Maggi noodles business gained back market share but the business results were affected by the unfavourable comparatives," Bulcke said while addressing investors after the company's Q1 earnings reports. Nestle follows a calendar financial year of January-December. <br />

Nestle performed the strongest in European and South East Asian markets, as well as in Africa. Organic growth for the Asia, Africa, Oceania (AOA) zone, which Nestle takes as a combined entity in earnings, was 2.1% as compared to 0.5% in the last quarter. <br />

Even though Maggi has regained its market share and has re-established itself as the leader of the noodles segment, the share is significantly lower than what it had before it <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Exclusive-Nestle-India-CEO-admits-Maggi-ban-was-the-resultof-a-major-breakdown-in-communication-with-the-Govt/articleshow/49889701.cms">faced the ban</a> in last June. The Food Safety &amp; Standards Authority India (FSSAI) had banned Maggi after it was found that it contained <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Maggi-is-in-trouble-again/articleshow/51344594.cms">more than permissible amount of lead</a>, along with mislabelling of flavour enhancer monosodium glutamate (MSG). <br />

It was only after multiple clearances, first by the Bombay High Court then by government labs, that Nestle was allowed to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/India-food-authority-challenges-lifting-ban-on-Nestles-Maggi/articleshow/49814787.cms">resume the sales</a> of Maggi noodles in November. <br />

Nestle CEO says Maggi is recovering faster than expected after a five-month hitch

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Getty Images</span></p><p class="caption">Local residents visit the Nestle SA supermarket boat in Barcarena, Brazil, on Friday, June 18, 2010.</p></div><p></p></div></div>For the past five years, sales of Nestlé chocolate, ice cream, and milk powder <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/26/business/nestle-activist-investor.html?mcubz=0&amp;_r=0">have slowed</a> in some of the wealthiest countries.</p><p><span>So Nestlé, the world's largest packaged food conglomerate, came up with a way to spread its presence abroad: sponsor an Amazonian river barge to sell its products to the backwoods of Brazil.</span></p><p><span>Faced with <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2012/01/how-big-food-takes-advantage-of-the-poor-in-emerging-markets/249917/">pressures to grow sales</a>, big food companies - from Nestlé to Unilever to <a href="https://blog.generalmills.com/2014/02/growth-in-global-markets/">General Mills</a> - are looking to expand their presence in developing nations. Like Nestlé, Unilever has <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=0ahUKEwjLjNzcurHWAhUG0YMKHYlTB3oQFggmMAA&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.theguardian.com%2Fglobal-development%2F2011%2Fnov%2F23%2Fcorporate-giants-target-developing-countries&amp;usg=AFQjCNHOwrtalAQHPvL-nUhjko0FsS-P5Q">an army of door-to-door vendors</a> who sell processed food to low-income villages in India and west and east Africa. The brewer <a href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/sabmiller" data-omni-click="r'article',r'link',r'6',r'249917'">SABMiller</a>, a leading Coca-Cola distributor in South Africa, is also aiming to double carbonated drink sales in the country's townships in coming years. Nestlé <a href="https://www.wsj.com/article_email/SB10001424052970203537304577028422773102732-lMyQjAxMTAxMDAwNDEwNDQyWj.html?mod=wsj_share_email">told</a> The Wall Street Journal it expects 45% of its sales to come from emerging markets by 2020, up from around 30% today.<br /></span></p><p><span>For Nestle, the boat was a way to expand in hard to reach parts of Brazil, reports the <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/09/16/health/brazil-obesity-nestle.html?_r=2">New York Times</a>. Since 2010, the boat delivered tens of thousands of cartons of milk powder, yogurt, chocolate pudding, cookies, and candy to isolated communities in the Amazon basin. <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/09/16/health/brazil-obesity-nestle.html?_r=1">According to</a> The New York Times, the boat was taken out of service in July 2017, but private boat owners have taken over to fill the demand.</span></p><p><span>The program, called "Nestlé Takes You Onboard," was part of a larger effort of Nestlé's door-to-door marketing campaign, which aims to grow the corporation's presence in the developing world. Nestlé currently also employs thousands of local vendors, who sell its products to quarter-million households, many of which are in isolated, low-income areas of Brazil.</span></p><p><span>The "supermarket" boat, which measured 1,076 square feet, journeyed to 18 cities and up to 800,000 consumers on the Para and Xingu rivers in Brazil, the company <a href="http://www.nestle.com/asset-library/Documents/Media/press-release/2010-february/Nestl%C3%A9%20Brazil%20Press%20Release%20-%20A%20Bordo.pdf">wrote</a> in a press release. The coffee chain has agreed to provide the SEC more information about how it recognizes revenue, according to the WSJ.</p><p>Starbucks is one of many US companies that the SEC has asked about revenue-recognition practices since 2018, when new accounting guidelines came into effect that change how different companies record revenue from sales and services. At least 208 companies - a 56% increase year over year -got letters from the SEC in 2018, the WSJ reported. </p><p>In routine letters sent between May and August, the SEC questioned how Starbucks recognizes revenue in quarterly filings that ended March 31. The SEC asked a number of questions about how Starbucks counts revenue from services, and also asked the company to explain how it recorded the $7 billion payment from Nestle SA in 2018 for the exclusive right to sell Starbucks products. </p><p>In addition, a change in how Starbucks accounts for gift cards made it harder for the SEC to tell how much revenue the company received from the Nestle deal, the WSJ reported. </p><p>The report comes just a week after Starbucks stock slid the most in 7 months after the company said in an investor presentation that its earnings won't grow as much in 2020 as it previously thought. Starbucks drops after adjusting its revenue-reporting practices amid SEC scrutiny

McDonald's all-day breakfast might be taking customers from IHOP and Denny's.</h3><p>Now that McDonald's is offering all-day breakfast, an unexpected segment is suffering: <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-competing-ihop-dennys-breakfast-2015-11">family dining</a>.&#xa0;<span>Sales at Denny's, IHOP, and other family-dining restaurants that have been serving all-day breakfast for decades are slipping as McDonald's same-store sales grow.</span></p><h3>2. Red Lobster is making a huge change to one of its most important menu items.</h3><p>Red Lobster is making a change to its most popular protein: <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/red-lobsters-shrimp-bigger-2015-11">shrimp</a>.&#xa0;The restaurant chain is increasing the size of its shrimp by at least 47% in most of its dishes. 'Workers get pulled into the water and just disappear' - Nestle reveals horrendous abuse in its seafood supply chain.</h3><p>Impoverished migrant workers in Thailand are&#xa0;lured by false promises and forced to catch and process fish that end up in global food giant Nestle SA's supply chains, according to&#xa0;<a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/ap-nestle-confirms-labor-abuse-among-its-thai-seafood-suppliers-2015-11">Nestle</a>.&#xa0;The company made the disclosure&#xa0;in an act of self-policing after concluding a yearlong internal investigation.&#xa0;</p><h3>6. Apple hopes to launch Apple Pay in China by February.</h3><p>Apple Inc. seeks to launch its new Apple Pay electronic-payment service in China <a href="http://www.wsj.com/articles/apple-pay-may-launch-in-china-by-february-sources-say-1448340287">by early February</a><span>. McDonald's has a new trick to make sure it doesn't botch orders.</h3><h1>&#xa0;</h1><p>McDonald's is trying to improve order accuracy at its drive-thrus with a new measure called <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-order-accuracy-business-2015-11">"ask, ask, tell."</a> The measure requires employees to verbally repeat food orders to customers three times in order to ensure they recorded them correctly.&#xa0;Accuracy at the drive-thru, where 70% of customers purchase food from McDonald's, is vital.</p><h3>10. A startup selling $1 razors is worth $630 million - and still raking in cash from investors.</h3><p>Dollar Shave Club has <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/dollar-shave-club-raises-another-15-million-2015-11">raised</a> another $15 million, bringing its latest&#xa0;round of fundraising to almost $91 million.&#xa0;The filing says that a total of 22 investors are participating in the latest fundraising round.&#xa0;The Los Angeles-based company launched in 2011&#xa0;with an idea to steal market share from razor powerhouse Gillette. <p class="source"><span>UBS</span></p><p class="caption">UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti.</p>Is Switzerland more important to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-china-says-us-trade-orders-should-respect-international-rules-2017-4">America than China</a>? Well, it depends on what is important to you.<p>As Chairman of the Swiss American Chamber of Commerce, I believe that the relationship between <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/country-closest-to-being-named-currency-manipulator-2017-2">Switzerland and the US </a>offers a model for how cross-border investment can strengthen economic ties between nations, creating much-needed jobs and adding to global prosperity through financial partnership. Our government also understands this too, and I am sure that this message will be reinforced when Federal Councillor Ueli Maurer, Head of the Federal Department of Finance, and Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, visit the US next week.   </p><p>Meanwhile, the whole world is watching America and its new President to try to understand where his administration is going in terms of economic and trade policies and the impacts they might have on its trade partners.  Early talk of border taxes and trade tariffs has stoked concern about the risk of trade wars and a so-called "new era of US protectionism." <br /><br />President Donald Trump put it this way: "There are two simple rules: buy American and hire American." For some countries, that's worrying. For others, it's a great opportunity -- one that Switzerland is already embracing.</p><p>So who really matters to America when it comes to jobs?  Well, if you look at the net figures (employment in the US by foreign companies minus US-created jobs in that country), then Switzerland creates more American jobs than China.  That's 370,000 net jobs in America's favor according to the latest figures*. Globally, Switzerland ranks second only to Japan in the net jobs it creates for America. And if you add in all the jobs supported by exports to Switzerland, the total soars to more than 700,000.</p><p>Switzerland is a minnow on the world stage - a small, landlocked country of about 8 million people, accounting for less than one percent of global gross domestic product.  We live in the popular imagination as a land of chocolate, mountains and cuckoo clocks.  But you won't find much in the way of lederhosen, yodeling or bank secrecy anymore - perception lags behind the reality.  And the reality is that in terms of American jobs, Switzerland is a true heavyweight.  And these jobs are well paid, with American workers in Swiss-owned companies earning an average of more than $100,000 a year, higher than jobs from any other major country*.     </p><p>Switzerland is the seventh-largest foreign investor in the US, and Swiss investments are growing at the second-highest rate of any country*. It's a two-way street, with about a fifth of global investment in Switzerland coming from the US.That helps explains why Switzerland has added more jobs to the US economy than any other major country since 2008, so that Swiss companies now contribute more than 460,000 jobs, spread across every state*. Swiss companies are among the top three foreign employers in more than half a dozen states from New Jersey through Arkansas to California, with New Mexico, North Dakota and Louisiana showing the fastest growth.  </p><p>Swiss companies are prominent in manufacturing in chemicals, food and electronics, and in services like banking and insurance. World-class companies including Nestle SA, Novartis AG, ABB Ltd., Credit Suisse Group AG and UBS Group AG have important US operations.  </p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;"></span></p><p class="source"><span>Rob Ludacer</span></p>Given that the most famous Swiss-American is Albert Einstein, maybe it is not so surprising that Switzerland is the biggest foreign investor in research &amp; development in the US, accounting for a fifth of total foreign investment*.  R&amp;D is vital for tomorrow's jobs - recent research estimated that for every one percent increase in R&amp;D, America would benefit from a $.38 per cent increase in jobs<span style="font-weight: 400;">∗∗</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">. And Swiss companies are the number one investor in high-value growth industries such as pharmaceuticals and medicine.</span><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Of course, while Switzerland matters to the US, the US in turn is absolutely vital to Switzerland.  US companies export goods and services worth more than $50 billion to Switzerland annually.  And exports are growing, both ways.  We value our economic relationship.  We also value the historical and cultural ties, underpinned by our shared values. In addition, our two governments have agreed to co-operate more in vocational education and training. In Switzerland we have a long and successful tradition of apprenticeships.</span></p><p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Extending the partnership between Switzerland and the US will help grow the economic ties to the mutual benefit of both countries.  With more than 500 Swiss companies providing jobs for Americans already, we can expect further investment. What's good for Switzerland is also good for America.      </span></p><p><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sergio P.
