This is the first time the iPhone maker has extended support for NavIC to its iPhone models. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="What is NavIC" comment="subhead" text="What is NavIC">What is NavIC</cmsannotation> NavIC has been developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It is a constellation of seven satellites and a network of ground stations operating round the clock. Three satellites of the constellation are placed in geostationary orbit and four satellites are placed in inclined geosynchronous orbit. NavIC’s coverage currently includes India and around 1,500 km beyond India’s boundaries. NavIC signals are interoperable with the other global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals namely GPS, Glonass, Galileo and BeiDou. The Glonass system has been developed by Russia, Galileo by the European Union and BeiDou by China. Calling the inclusion of NavIC on iPhones a significant achievement for the country, the government is considering making it a standard practice that all devices using GPS technology should have NavIC-powered chipsets inside, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, said on Thursday. "We're planning to make it a standard practice that all devices using GPS technology should have NAVIC-powered chipsets or NAVIC chips inside. When you look at the IT PLI scheme this time, it includes incentives for system designers and manufacturers who incorporate Indian-designed chips into their products," said Chandrasekhar. Interestingly, smartphones powered by chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek have supported NavIC for a long time, going back to 2020. Few devices from Android smartphone makers also support NavIC. India, in its 2021 satellite navigation draft policy highlighted the importance of NavIC and its plans to promote the technology. San Francisco, If you own a <keyword id="6521534" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pixel-watch" source="Orion">Pixel Watch</keyword> and accidentally breaks its screen, then getting it officially repaired by <keyword id="6355629" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="google" source="Orion">Google</keyword> isn't in the cards. On Reddit and Google support forums, a number of Pixel Watch owners have taken out their frustrations about the inability to replace cracked screens, reports The Verge. In it, a support representative stated that Google "doesn't have any repair centres or service centres" for the device. "At this moment, we don't have any repair option for the Google Pixel Watch. If your watch is damaged, you can contact the Google Pixel Watch Customer Support Team to check your replacement options," Google spokesperson Bridget Starkey was quoted as saying. Starkey also pointed to Google's hardware warranty policy, which states, "this Limited Warranty does not apply to damage caused by -- (1) normal wear and tear; (2) accidents; (3) misuse (including failure to follow product documentation); (4) neglect; (5) disassembly; (6) alterations; (7) servicing other than by Google-authorised technicians; and (8) external causes such as, but not limited to: liquid damage, exposure to sharp objects, exposure to excessive force, anomalies in the electrical current supplied to the Google product, and extreme thermal or environmental conditions." According to the report, this kind of warranty means leaving owners on their own to deal with damage caused by drops or accidental strikes, and as per Google's Store, there is no option for an extended warranty to go with a Pixel Watch. If users' Pixel Watch is accidentally damaged, then they are on their own. Meanwhile, California passed a right-to-repair law requiring companies to offer replacement parts for electronics priced $50 and higher for three years, and for $100 and higher for seven years. Google won't fix broken Pixel Watch screens

<ul><li>NavIC, the Indian GPS, to be launched soon and will work with the help of a constellation of seven satellites to provide accurate position information to users within the country. </li><li>The desi GPS is expected to work better because a larger number of satellites will be focusing on a smaller area. </li><li>The CAG Report states NavIC’s delays and money overruns . </li></ul>The Indian Regional <keyword id="48724" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navigation">Navigation</keyword> Satellite System’s (IRNSS) project of an indigenous GPS, sanctioned by the Indian government in 2006, is finally near its completion. The <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/indias-desi-gps-navic-all-set-to-navigate-you/articleshow/64639096.cms">NavIC</a> (Navigation with Indian Constellation) is all set to be launched soon. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has taken the lead in this project. The ‘desi’ <keyword id="60096" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Global-Positioning-System">Global Positioning System</keyword>, or the GPS as it is better known, is an attempt to challenge the GPS made by the West and also become self-reliant when it comes to tracking and mapping. <keyword id="3658" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="India">India</keyword> took up this project after the US government denied access to its GPS to track the positioning of Pakistani troops during the Kargil War in 1999. NavIC will work with the help of a constellation of seven satellites to provide accurate position information to users within the country. The satellites cover India and upto 1,500 kilometres of area from its borders. The NavIC will be helpful with terrestrial, aerial and marine navigation, vehicle tracking and fleet management, disaster management, mapping and geodetic data capture, visual and voice navigation for drivers. To access all these services, the NavlC needs to be embedded in chips and other devices that are compatible with mobiles and can be used in cars. While it sounds like a great option to generate money by going the ‘Make in India’ way, IT secretary, Ajay Prakash Sawhney, has said that the NavIC will be providing these services for the strategic interest of the country and not to earn revenues. The GPS we use in the country right now comes from the West and its accuracy, efficiency is often debatable and reliant on the network services in the country. The desi GPS is expected to work better because a larger number of satellites will be focusing on a smaller area. It is also expected to work better across weather conditions as it uses a dual frequency system and has a position accuracy of five metres as opposed to the foreign GPS technology that uses single frequency and has 20-30 metres of position accuracy. The project, when approved, was given a budget of ₹14.2 billion and was expected to be out by 2011. It is clear that the project has <a href="https://thewire.in/space/indias-gps-delayed-by-deadline-overruns-isros-administrative-laxity-cag">failed to meet deadlines</a>, but there’s a reason for it all. An audit done this March by Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), the authority that examines all receipts and expenditures of the Government of India and the state governments, explains the delay. The <a href="https://www.cag.gov.in/sites/default/files/audit_report_files/Chapter_7_Department_Of_Space_of_Report_No.2_of_2018_%E2%80%93_Compliance_Audit_on_Scientific_and_Environmental_MinistriesDepartments_Union_Government.pdf">CAG report</a> states that there has been a delay of anything between two to nine years in the completion of specific contracts given to ISRO for NavIC. Seven contracts were still pending till last May. Though ISRO can not be blamed for all the delays, most of them were because of inadequate follow-up, failed coordination or mere “administrative laxity”. Failed satellite launches and dysfunctional equipment like atomic and primary clocks has further added to NavlC’s delay. So far, ISRO has spent over ₹24 billion on NavIC - ₹12.8 billion from sanctioned budget, and a supplementary ₹11.6 billion to launch the seven satellites. There has been a lot of “unnecessary expenditure”, according to the CAG audit, which even includes the purchase of incompatible modems. The project had also been at odds with the government when it refused to carry out some responsibilities it took funds for, like setting up the user segment. However, despite these challenges, all that NavIC now awaits is the Request for Proposal (RPF) that has been called for so as it can begin with the implementation, launch and promotion. Once that is done, India will become one of the countries with their own positioning system like, Russia and USA, strengthening its social and technological position worldwide.

Move aside, India is all set to launch its desi GPS service and it might be more accurate

<ul><li>Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief, K Sivan, has confirmed for the first time that the agency is working on <keyword id="8011900" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="chandrayaan-3">Chandrayaan 3</keyword>, India's second attempt to land on the Moon. </li><li>Sivan stated that Chandrayaan 3 and <keyword id="6797456" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaganyaan">Gaganyaan</keyword> will be ISRO's top priorities in 2020.</li><li>The budget for Chandrayaan 3 is ₹6.51 billion, less than that of Chandrayaan 2 — already lauded for being the cheapest Moon mission ever.</li></ul>India's second mission to the Moon, Chandrayaan 2, might have <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-fails-in-the-final-seconds-of-descent-to-moons-south-pole/articleshow/71018196.cms">fallen short of expectations</a> but the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing to take another crack at it. Along with Chandrayaan 3, ISRO will also be busy preparing for its maiden human spaceflight program — <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/isros-first-manned-space-mission-might-have-women/articleshow/67486206.cms">Gangayaan.</a> "This is going to be the year of Chandrayaan 3 and Gaganyaan, I would say," said ISRO chairman, K. Even since then, rumours of Chandrayaan-3 have been making the rounds. However, this is the first time that the ISRO official has confirmed that it's in the works. "One major announcement I wanted to make here, officially, is that Chandrayaan-3 is government-approved. The project is now formed. The activities for Chandrayaan-3 are going very smoothly," Sivan said. Chandrayaan 3 will cost even less than Chandrayaan 2 Sivan explained that Chandrayaan 2's orbiter, successfully circling the Moon at an altitude of 100 kilometres, has the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2s-orbiter-has-seven-and-a-half-years-to-scan-the-surface-of-the-moon/articleshow/71027327.cms">life-span of up to seven years</a>. That is why Chandrayaan 3, will only be carrying a rover and a lander. This will also reduce the cost of the project to ₹6.15 billion rupees instead of the ₹10 billion it cost to launch Chandrayaan 2 — an amount that was already lauded for behind less than the budget of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/chandrayaan-2-cheaper-than-avengers-endgame-what-the-foreign-press-says/articleshow/70208309.cms">Avengers Endgame</a>. India's ‘fat boy' geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) will be used, yet again, to launch Chandrayaan 3 towards the Moon. No final launch date for Chandrayaan 3 or Gangayaan While Chandrayaan 3 will be one of ISRO's top priorities in 2020, it's unlikely that the actual launch will take place this year. According to Sivan, it could take up to another 14 to 16 months to complete the spacecraft. He predicts that the launch will only happen in 2021. Even Gangayaan is unlikely to get off the ground in 2020. Sivan did not disclose a launch date for the mission other than it will happen "very soon". Even though these two missions might not be taking off in 2020, ISRO has 5 confirmed launches of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) scheduled this year. India's second mission to land on the Moon, Chandrayaan 3, confirmed by ISRO chief

At just three years old with $5 million in projected revenue, Hoctor and his co-founder Matthew Emans sold the company for 24 to 30 times revenue, making it a rare high exit for <keyword id="35666" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="advertising">advertising</keyword> startups.The acquisition shows the growing appetite marketers and investors have for technology that promises to shake up the decades-old practices of buying, selling and measuring TV ads. Both companies were focused on solving data-based advertising. In exchange for <a href="https://www.dataplusmath.com/news-1/2018/10/18/liveramp">providing TV reporting</a> for LiveRamp's clients, Data Plus Math used the ad-tech firm's technology to anonymously match advertisers' data with its own data sets.<h2>Hoctor has a history of disrupting TV</h2>Data Plus Math's acquisition isn't a fluke.Hoctor and Emans are longtime entrepreneurs and business partners who have worked in television since 2001. They met while working at TV-targeting firm Navic Networks, which Microsoft acquired in 2008 for reportedly <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2008/06/18/microsoft-gets-into-interactive-tv-ads-buys-navic-networks-for-an-estimated-200-to-300-million/">more than $200 million.</a> Then they founded a data startup called IntegralReach, which they sold to Rovi (now known as TiVo) in 2013. "We got very lucky with the timing - it became a hot topic quickly."The promise to help TV networks and advertisers challenge Facebook and Google became key to Data Plus Math's pitch, Hoctor said.
