It will ensure ‘guaranteed seats’ to general passengers travelling in unreserved train coaches. The initiative <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/infrastructure/railways/get-seats-easily-in-unreserved-coaches-indian-railways-introduces-new-biometric-system-for-general-passengers/1656964/">launched</a> by Western Railway division’s Mumbai Central railway station and Bandra Terminus aims to create a hassle-free experience for passengers and avoid mayhem at platforms at the time of boarding. <keyword id="102890" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="biometrics">Biometrics</keyword> have been tested first, on Pushpak Express between Mumbai and Lucknow. The Railways has been practicing biometrics for Amravati Express, Jaipur Superfast Express, Karnavati Express , Gujarat Mail, Golden Temple Mail, Paschim Express, <keyword id="1340079" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amaravati-Express">Amaravati Express</keyword>, Avadh Express, <keyword id="1301826" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra-Sampark-Kranti-Express">Maharashtra Sampark Kranti Express</keyword>. It plans on using the machines for long-distance trains as well. From now on, the passengers travelling in unreserved coaches will scan their fingerprints at the biometric system to get the token. The token-system will ensure that the number of passengers does not surpass the number of available seats. These tokens will be verified by the official staff (<keyword id="54832" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-Protection-Force">Railway Protection Force</keyword>) on the platforms. Currently, people board trains in a disorderly manner, increasing the scope of accidents. “This machine also captures images of passengers, eliminating the need for video recording of passengers boarding general class coaches,” Financial Express <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/infrastructure/railways/get-seats-easily-in-unreserved-coaches-indian-railways-introduces-new-biometric-system-for-general-passengers/1656964/">reported</a> citing Ravinder Bhakar, CPRO of <keyword id="66416" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Western-Railways">Western Railways</keyword>. The move will cut down on the malpractices for the sake of seat reservations. The authorities will also be able to identify thieves by tracking their fingerprints. Indian Railways is using biometrics to reduce and track unreserved passengers

Ahead of the festive season, the airfare from <keyword id="66" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="delhi" source="Orion">Delhi</keyword>, <keyword id="6358070" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mumbai" source="Orion">Mumbai</keyword> and Kolkata to <keyword id="6358805" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="patna" source="Orion">Patna</keyword> has registered a more than three-fold rise over the off-peak season rates. The price of the Delhi to Patna flight on October 22 was Rs 14,000 while the airfare from Mumbai to Patna reached Rs 20,000. The current fare from these two places to Patna is more than the rate from Delhi to Sharjah, which is Rs 11,000. Delhi to Bangkok's current ticket costs Rs 10,500, and Delhi to Singapore is priced at Rs 13,000. The air ticket from Kolkata to Patna was hiked to Rs 10,500. The airline companies during the peak season were taking advantage of the flexible fare. The experts believe that the spike may continue. The air tickets from other cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Surat and others have also increased. One of the biggest reasons for the spikes in airfare is the unavailability of train tickets. The waiting lists for trains are very high and even <keyword id="56937" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="tatkal" source="Orion">Tatkal</keyword> tickets are not available. Meanwhile, Northern Railway has decided to run 32 additional mail and express trains bound for Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, <keyword id="2634001" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="jay-nagar" source="Orion">Jay Nagar</keyword>, Kishanganj, Katihar, and Barauni (Begusarai) to provide some relief to the passengers. The officials are claiming to run a total of 211 trains till Chatth Puja. The trains will start from Jammu, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Delhi, Bhiwani and Pathankot. Today (6 July), however, the NHSRCL has made a teeny tiny headway and has floated its first tender for building a bridge in the Navsari district of Gujarat. In all, around 60 bridges are to be built in the 508-km high-speed corridor. The NHSRCL has resorted to novel methods like recruiting women from the 73 villages where the land is to be acquired to help with the negotiation process, a method that is apparently working. These women have been successful in facilitating a dialogue between the heads of the villages and NHSRCL engineers for the joint measurement survey. In fact, they have managed to get the survey team into villages where earlier the team was threatened with violence and couldn’t even enter. Apart from this, a team of 15 women from various blocks have been roped in to explain the compensation packages being offered and the exact land requirements to the villagers. But, all things considered, this is a minute step forward for this mammoth project. It is still unclear whether the deadline to start civil work by December 2018-January 2019 will be met. The NHSRCL spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar, however, is quite confident and told the <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/first-bullet-train-tender-goes-out-for-a-bridge-5247758/">Indian Express</a> that they are “on schedule as per the timeline of the project”. Gautam Adani, the man who may soon be Asia's richest person, is a college dropout who survived the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks and says he was once kidnapped for ransom

<div type="image" title="train" msid="58193170" hostid="261"></div> After successful launch of 160 km per hour train service on <keyword id="368065" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Agra">Delhi-Agra</keyword> corridor, railways is aiming at scaling the speed up to 200 kmph on <keyword id="2401421" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-Chandigarh">Delhi-Chandigarh</keyword> route with the French help to reduce the travel time, according to news report by <keyword id="6367495" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PTI">PTI</keyword>. The 245 km long Delhi-Chandigarh corridor, one of the busiest routes in northern India, is slated to be first semi- high speed project being taken up by railways to run train at maximum speed of 200 kmph. Railways has identified nine high priority passenger corridors of total 6,400 km including Delhi-Agra, Delhi- Chandigarh to be upgraded to run semi-high speed train service. Delhi-Kanpur, Nagpur-Bilaspur, Mysore-Bengaluru-Chennai, Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Chennai-Hyderabad and Nagpur- Secunderabad routes have also been identified for raising the speeds of passenger trains to 160/200 kmph. SNCF, the French railways, will submit the execution strategy and implementation model with detailed cost of the semi-high speed project involving upgradation of the 245 km Chandigarh route. The French team is expected to submit the final report with details of cost analysis by October, said a senior <keyword id="54441" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Railway-ministry">Railway Ministry</keyword> official associated with the project. The aim is to reduce the travelling time considerably so it has been decided to upgrade the existing track for running trains at 200 kmph speed and French railways has been asked to prepare the draft document for it, he said. According to a rough estimate, it is likely to cost over Rs 10,000 crore with about Rs 46 cr per kilometre for running trains at 200 kmph, which includes rolling stock, and signal and track upgradation on the Chandigarh corridor. Currently, Shatabdi <keyword id="6413405" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="express">Express</keyword> covers the 245 km distance in about three hours 30 minutes travelling at a maximum speed of 110 kmph. The 200 kmph speed will reduce the journey time to one hour 50 minutes with one stop at Ambala. A high-level French delegation has recently mIndian Railways officials and discussed the possibility of running the semi-high speed trains on the Delhi-Chandigarh sector. It was agreed to explore the upgradation of the existing track to enable 200 kmph speed run, said the official.
