He reiterated the company’s commitment to providing high-quality products and services that enhance the lives of Indian consumers. The chairman announced that the company’s board will consider issuing bonus shares on September 5, further rewarding shareholders as Reliance continues to grow. <h2>Transforming into a deep-tech company</h2>A major theme of the AGM this year was Reliance’s transformation into a deep tech company, with advanced manufacturing capabilities at its core. Ambani described this shift as essential to securing a place in the global top-30 companies in the near future. He highlighted the company’s strategic adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), calling it one of the most transformative events in human history. AI, he noted, opens up new avenues to address complex problems, making Reliance a net producer of technology. Reliance has been making significant strides in R&amp;D, with over ₹3,643 crore invested in FY24 alone, taking the total research expenditure to over ₹11,000 crore in the last four years. This investment is driving innovations in various areas, including bio-energy, solar power, green energy, and high-value chemicals. The company has also been active in digital research, filing patents in 6G, 5G, AI, and IoT, among others. Ambani assured that this tech-driven transformation would propel Reliance into a new phase of hyper-growth, multiplying its value in the coming years. <h2><keyword id="20337020" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-business" source="keywords">Retail business</keyword> to double</h2>In addition to technological advancements, Reliance Retail, the company’s retail arm, is set to double its business in the next three to four years. Isha Ambani, Director of Reliance Retail, shared that the retail segment recorded a gross revenue of ₹3.06 lakh crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2024, marking a 17.8% growth over the previous year. The retail business has rapidly expanded, with Reliance opening 1,840 new stores in the past year, bringing the total to 18,836 stores across 79 million square feet of retail space. This growth has positioned Reliance Retail among the top-5 global retailers in terms of store count and among the top-10 in market capitalization globally. Isha Ambani emphasised that much of this growth is driven by a focus on smaller towns, where two-thirds of the new stores have been opened. Reliance Retail is also focused on creating high-quality, affordable products through its Consumer Brands business, which has seen the re-launch of popular brands like Campa, Lotus Chocolates, and Sosyo. Mukesh Ambani concluded by underscoring Reliance’s mission to provide energy security to India while also contributing to a cleaner and greener world. As the global landscape becomes increasingly uncertain, he expressed confidence in India’s role as a key growth engine in the global economy. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) projects that India will become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, surpassing Japan and Germany. With an annual contribution of ₹1,161 crore in fiscal 2022, Shiv Nadar has displaced Wipro’s Azim Premji as the most generous Indian, according to the EdelGive <keyword id="3606268" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hurun-india-philanthropy-list" source="Orion">Hurun India Philanthropy List</keyword> 2022. The top 10 list cumulatively donated ₹3,378 crore in FY22, as against a combined donation of ₹12,785 crore last year. The youngest philanthropist on the list is 36-year-old Nikhil Kamath of Zerodha. Clearly, the young entrepreneurs are beginning their philanthropic journey early on unlike many others from corporate India. Nadar’s philanthropic efforts have mainly focussed on education. Overall, contributions towards philanthropy have fallen in FY22 because of the pandemic impact. Nadar’s donation too is down 8% in the fiscal year 2021-22, as per the list. Wipro’s Azim Premji slipped to the second spot with an annual donation of ₹484 crore as his contribution towards philanthropy has fallen by 95% year-on-year due to the exceptional share buy-back in 2021, says the report. Billionaire <keyword id="3820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mukesh-ambani" source="Orion">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>, the chairman of Reliance Industries, is third on the list with contributions totalling ₹411 crore. Ambani’s contribution fell 29% compared to last year. Kumar Mangalam Birla was fourth on the list with a contribution of ₹242 crore. Couples Susmita &amp; Subroto Bagchi and Radha &amp; NS Parthasarathy from Mindtree’s management debuted on the list with a combined donation of ₹426 crore to the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and also entered the top 10 and were ranked fifth. At 36 years, Nikhil Kamath is the youngest philanthropist on the Hurun list. Another surprise entrant this year has been Rakesh Gangwal, the co-promoter of InterGlobe Aviation (company that owns Indigo Airlines). Gangwal debuted this year with a personal contribution of ₹100 crore to the School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT, Kanpur. “EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List aims at chronicling the Indian philanthropy landscape and so far the transformation is encouraging. For instance, over the last 5 years, (the) number of donors who have given more than ₹100 crore have grown from 2 to 15, and over ₹50 crore have grown from 5 to 20. Reliance Jio has partnered with Qualcomm and Microsoft for the JioBook. The JioBook will reportedly be produced in India by contract manufacturer Flex. Jio reportedly aims to sell "hundreds of thousands" of units of the JioBook by March 2023. “There are cheaper chrome books as well. Challenges for the adoption will be user awareness and learning curve especially for the first time laptop users. Also non-windows is a let down too but one thing Jio can overcome here is the connectivity and software ecosystem, that wasn't working in favor of chromebooks,” said Tarun Pathak, research director of Counterpoint Research. The JioBook will reportedly run on the company’s operating system, JioOS. An earlier report had suggested that the JioBook will be equipped with the Snapdragon 665 chipset and offer up to 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Amid reports of ban on Chinese budget smartphones, Mukesh Ambani reveals Reliance Jio and Google are working on an affordable 5G smartphone

Diversified conglomerate <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> Industries has contributed Rs 1,184.93 crore towards supporting a number of need-based and impactful Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives during the fiscal FY22. The CSR initiatives were spearheaded by Reliance Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Reliance Industries, led by Founder and Chairperson of the foundation Nita M. Ambani. The works included in areas such as rural transformation, health, education, disaster response along with sports for development initiatives. Most importantly, its Covid-19 response to support the nation and the people, was rolled out through five missions, continued pivoted and intensified through the year, based on the urgent and emerging needs including Mission Oxygen and Mission Vaccine Suraksha. The other missions, including <keyword id="9080915" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="mission-anna-seva" source="Orion">Mission Anna Seva</keyword>, Mission <keyword id="8764262" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="covid" source="Orion">Covid</keyword> Infra and Mission Employee Care, were strengthened and sustained, based on the emerging pandemic situation. Through its wide range of initiatives, the foundation managed to reach out to over 5.75 crore people and served as many as 50,600 villages. During the once in a century pandemic, it produced 1,000 tonne medical oxygen every day exclusively for patients, over 8.5 crore meals distributed among needy ones, over 1.4 crore reusable masks distributed, over 2,000 Covid care beds set up across various locations, provided Covid related advisories to over 44 people, over 27 lakh litre fuels dispensed for emergency response vehicles, among many others. Providing crucial support to the nation to meet a sudden shortage of medical oxygen for Covid-19 patients, especially during the second wave, Reliance repurposed its factory in Jamnagar in record time to produce liquid medical oxygen. The infrastructure was ramped up to meet the life-saving needs of 100,000 patients on a daily basis, delivered free of cost to various states. The Jamnagar facility contributed to 11 per cent of India's total production of medical grade liquid oxygen. Even though Reliance was not a manufacturer of medical-grade liquid oxygen, it became India's largest producer of this life-saving resource from a single location in order to stand with the country in its hour of need. Besides, it enhanced India's covid testing capabilities by developing its own confirmatory tests with 15,000+ daily testing capacity. In education space, it had set up a Jio Institute Campus at Ulwe, Navi Mumbai, <keyword id="13126" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="maharashtra" source="Orion">Maharashtra</keyword> in about 52 acres, which will commence its academic sessions in 2022 itself. Further, it reached 2.15 crore youth and children through different sports initiatives since the inception of the foundation. Reliance Foundation scholarship athletes put up outstanding performances at national and international events, winning 28 medals in all. Athletes have their sights set on multiple international events including the Commonwealth and Asian Games. AI enabled technologies deployed to identify footballing talent. Started in 2016, Reliance Foundation Youth Sports (RFYS) aims to lay a strong foundation for India's sporting future through the development of sports in schools and colleges. Further, it supported various other small-and-medium sized entrepreneurs in rural areas by holding their hands in making their endeavour success.
