It took a few minutes for physical therapists to strap her into the exoskeleton. "It empowered me to stand up and walk independently for the first time in 18 years," she told Business Insider. She credited assistive technologies more broadly with saving her from "desperation and extremely dark thoughts."The Atalante X is made by Wandercraft, a company founded by a group of engineers in 2012 that develops mobility technologies. Innovations like AI-powered or robotic mobility aids and communication tools are poised to transform everyday life for millions of people. But widespread adoption hinges on ensuring that the tech is affordable and reaches the people who need it.<h2 id="6b8634a2-d442-4b58-b920-512b06194598">Advancing rehabilitation</h2>Dr. Laurent Metz, Wandercraft's global chief medical officer, described the Atalante X as a "walking robot full of sensors." The exoskeleton uses AI to predict which motions are needed to keep the user upright and moving, translating these into commands that are sent to a series of motors. "It's an interactive process that's repeated a thousand times a second," Metz said.This process takes place in rehabilitation hospitals and walking centers across the US, Europe, and Brazil under the guidance of medical professionals. One rehabilitation center said it <a target="_blank" href="https://www.linkedin.com/posts/villa-beretta-rehabilitation-research-innovation-institute_prof-matteo-parsani-during-a-training-session-activity-7188120806672003073-f1UX/?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop">conducted 750 sessions with more than 60 patients</a> in just over nine months and that its patients had taken more than a million steps in the Atalante X.Wandercraft is preparing to move out of hospitals and launch a personal exoskeleton. While the company hasn't provided a timeline for the tech, its work is part of efforts to expand the availability and capabilities of assistive technology.ReWalk Robotics has also been modifying an at-home exoskeleton to help users mount stairs and curbs. The exoskeleton was approved for personal use in 2014, but until recently it could be used only on flat ground. ReWalk says the modifications are designed to make more daily environments and activities accessible to people with spinal-cord injuries.<h2 id="5b8f2dff-a16f-4f8d-a003-2319b441fd59">Assistive tech for everyday use</h2>Accessibility technologies are already being used in homes nationwide. "You probably don't think of a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/tech/best-robot-vacuum">Roomba vacuum </a>cleaner as an assistive technology, but it is," said Elaine Schaertl Short, an assistant professor of computer science at Tufts University.While the tech can be a quick fix for people who don't have time to vacuum, Short said, it also aids those with physical challenges. "I also have a mobility impairment, so vacuuming isn't the best use of my energy — I have this robot do it for me," she said.Other assistive technologies are <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/virtual-reality-physical-therapy-pain-relief-coordination-exercises-2024-8">redefining accessibility and mobility</a>. For example, the Tatum T1, developed by Tatum Robotics, is a robotic hand designed to translate live voice and text output into American Sign Language. And Chronus Robotics has developed Kim-e, what it calls a hands-free "invisible wheelchair" with an adjustable seat that can be raised to standing height.Robotics are also advancing the capabilities of prosthetic limbs. The tech was the result of Clode's quest to "design something that could be an extension of the body, accessible to everyone."<h2 id="91e6fa93-4c34-4672-9b64-06447b95f8f9">The road to accessibility</h2>While there are small-scale examples of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-much-does-a-personal-assistant-robot-cost-roomba-humanoid-2023-12">assistive robots</a> offering help in the house, technologies like robotic exoskeletons, limbs, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.gla.ac.uk/news/headline_1043333_en.html">guide dogs</a> have a long way to go before they become widespread.In the meantime, researchers like Short and product testers like Klang work alongside engineers to ensure that marginalized people are factored into the development process.Klang said it's crucial that product-development teams "listen to and incorporate the insights of people with disabilities" as early in the process as possible. "We know what works for us and what doesn't," she added, describing it as "deeply frustrating" when products claim to be accessible but fall short.Assistive technologies can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. That's a problem for many Americans with disabilities, whom the National Disability Institute has found are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.nationaldisabilityinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/disability-race-poverty-in-america.pdf">more likely than their able-bodied counterparts to live below the poverty line</a>.Short said she's confident that prices will decrease. Fifteen years ago, assistive robots like the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/a-look-back-at-willow-garage-2016-2">PR2</a>, which is no longer available, cost about $400,000. Now, similar tech — such as the Stretch 3 by Hello Robot — is <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://hello-robot.com/stretch-3-product">available online for $25,000</a>. "It's still not accessible to most people," she said, "but it's an improvement."Still, Short told BI she considers most robots to be decades away from reaching the American home.Short said she urges tech developers to consider "nonnormative users," or people who aren't able-bodied. I tested the Velvet Red colour option. The Vivo V30e comes with a dual-tone finish, with one portion offering a matte finish and one portion offering a glossy finish. However, the device is a bit slippery, so I recommend using it with a case to ensure it does not slip out of your hand. You won’t face any issues, whether you are gaming or just browsing social media. <h2>Software and performance</h2>The Vivo V30e runs on Android 14 out of the box with the company’s Funtouch OS 14 on top. The device will get three years of Android updates and four years of security updates. The software support offered by the company is decent for this segment. The V30e has its fair share of bloatware. This includes applications like Amazon, Snapchat, PhonePe, Facebook, LinkedIn and more. While these applications can be uninstalled, the V-Appstore, which is the company’s own app store also sends notifications for app recommendations. In terms of performance, the Vivo V30e is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset coupled with 8GB LPDDR5X of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. While the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset is not a very powerful one, it offers decent performance in this segment. The device can handle multitasking easily. I played Call of Duty: Mobile on the device and it was able to handle the game smoothly, without any stutters. The smartphone is powered by a 5,500mAh battery with 44W fast charging support. The large battery ensures that you do not have to worry about running out of juice during the day. With regular usage, you can get up to two days of battery life out of the device. <h2>Camera</h2>The Vivo V30e comes with a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 50MP primary camera with a Sony IMX882 sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. While the Aura Light helps in capturing decent images even in low light conditions, the device sometimes takes a bit longer to capture the images. The device is equipped with a 50MP selfie camera, which captures good selfies in daylight and low-light conditions. The front camera also supports 4K video recording, making it a good option for content creators. <h2>Verdict</h2>The Vivo V30e is a decent smartphone that comes with a slightly different design, decent hardware and a large battery. Its sleek design and vibrant display make it a good option in this segment. Samsung has promised to provide four years of Android and five years of security updates with the device. Four years of Android updates means you will get up to Android 18, which is excellent for a device in this segment. While OneUI is relatively cleaner compared to other UIs in the segment, the device still has its fair share of bloatware, including apps like Netflix, LinkedIn, OneDrive and others. The device comes with other pre-installed applications from Samsung and Google. In terms of performance, the Galaxy F55 is equipped with the <keyword id="21598612" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Snapdragon-7-Gen-1" source="keywords">Snapdragon 7 Gen 1</keyword> chipset. I played popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India and Call of Duty Mobile on the Galaxy F55. While the device can run the game smoothly, we did notice the occasional lag during extended gaming sessions. The selfie camera clicks decent images in daylight conditions. <h2>Verdict</h2>The Samsung Galaxy F55 is a good option for those looking for a mid-range smartphone from Samsung but do not want a boring plastic back. The device offers a good display, a smooth UI and decent cameras. It offers decent performance for regular users but may not be the best option for those looking for a gaming smartphone. Overall, it is a good device that offers a good balance between design, hardware and price. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass DX, offering you a good amount of protection. Like other panels from the company, the Galaxy Book4 Pro’s display offers excellent colour reproduction, good contrast and good visibility. Overall, the display is good for all users, from those enjoying content on the device to those creating content. <h2>Performance</h2>The laptop from Samsung is equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor, which offers six performance cores, eight efficiency cores, and two low-power efficiency cores. The Intel Core Ultra is a new Meteor Lake chipset from the company and comes with Intel Arc graphics. The laptop is equipped with up to 32GB LPPDR5X RAM and 1TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. The new chipset from Intel is equipped with a dedicated neural processor unit that is aimed at easily performing AI tasks, which have become quite important these days. The low-power performance cores are aimed at improving the battery life. Samsung has added a lot of features that allow you to link it with your smartphone. You get features such as the ability to use it as a second display with the screen mirroring feature or the drag-and-drop feature. While this is good to have, do note that it only works if you have a Samsung smartphone or a Samsung tablet. As the device is packed with powerful hardware, I had no issues with performance. The laptop easily handles everything that you throw at it without any issues and multi-tasking is a breeze. As the laptop is not equipped with a dedicated graphics card, gaming is not one of its strengths. However, the Intel Arc graphics were able to handle a lot of games that are less graphic intensive with ease, allowing you to play games on the device. Coming to battery life, the Galaxy Book4 Pro is equipped with a 63Wh battery and supports 65W charging. As it is a lightweight laptop, the company has kept the battery size on the lower side. The power-efficient chipset ensures that you can get around 8 hours of battery life in regular usage, which should be enough for most users. <h2>Verdict</h2>The Samsung Galaxy Book4 Pro ticks a lot of the boxes, including a sleek and lightweight design, powerful hardware, excellent display and good battery life. Let’s find out. <h2>iQOO Z9s Pro: Design and display </h2> The iQOO Z9s Pro sports a sleek, contemporary design, offering a lightweight and comfortable grip. The phone features a sturdy glossy back panel with a marble feel to it which is visible when the lights are on. The phone, at a glance, looks quite stylish and will stand out in a crowd. I personally am not a fan of prints but the marble feel on the iQOO Z9s Pro looks quite elegant and not at all overdone. Then there is the familiar square camera module and the iQOO branding. During my usage, I didn’t see any fingerprints on the back panel which is a huge plus. The device weighs 180 grams, which is good considering it comes with a 5,000mAh battery and a vegan leather back. The device does not feel heavy to hold and can be used with one hand with ease. The device comes with a rectangular camera module at the back with two camera cut-outs and a cutout for the LED flash. The number of pre-installed applications are minimal and can be easily uninstalled. While not surprising in this segment, the device will only get one Android update to Android 15. Apart from this, the company will offer three years of security updates. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chipset and comes with up to 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.2 storage. While it is not an extremely powerful chipset, it is a great option in this segment, which usually offers low-end chipsets. I tried popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India Call of Duty: Mobile on the device. The Moto G34 5G offers a decent gaming experience, with minimal stuttering and heating. The gaming is however limited to HD graphics. It is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with 18W charging support despite coming with a 20W charger. The large battery ensures that you don’t have to worry about charging the device every day. However, considering the price of the device, this is expected. On the front, the device sports a 16MP camera for selfies and video calling, which gets the job done. As expected, it performs decently in daylight conditions but struggles in low-light. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Verdict" comment="subhead" text="Verdict">Verdict</cmsannotation> The Moto G34 5G is a good device that comes with a good design, big battery, decent chipset and a clean UI. It is a good option for those looking for a no-hassle smartphone at an affordable price. One thing I liked about the device is that the bezels are evenly distributed. The tall display is great for watching content and gaming and is quite bright, even in direct sunlight. I liked the display; my only issue was the lack of protection. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Software and performance" comment="subhead" text="Software and performance">Software and performance</cmsannotation> If you have used a Vivo or iQOO smartphone in the past, you will find the UI has not changed much. The iQOO Neo 7 runs on Android 13 out of the box with the company’s Funtouch OS 13 on top. Funtouch OS 13 is a highly customized Android version with several features. The iQOO Neo 7 has its fair share regarding bloatware, like BYJU’s, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and more. In addition to this, it also comes with two folders – Hot Apps and Hot Games. <div type="image" title="Apps" msid="98608378" hostid="261" sizebytes="61922" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Preinstalled apps and Hot Apps and Got Games folders&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> While other pre-installed applications can be removed, these two folders are permanent. The user interface (UI) is highly customizable, and while many may like this, if you are a fan of a clean UI, which is close to stock, the iQOO Neo 7 may not be your cup of tea. Coming to performance, the iQOO Neo 7 is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. I tested the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. The Dimensity 8200 is a powerful chipset and can easily handle whatever tasks you throw at it. I did not face any issues while multitasking, despite opening several apps. The main highlight of the device is its gaming experience. In addition to the powerful chipset, the device is equipped with a vapor chamber and a 3D graphite structure for cooling. I used the Neo 7 to play popular titles such as Call of Duty: Mobile and Asphalt 9. I enjoyed playing both games on the device, and they performed really well. iQOO has added a “Monster Mode” that juices up the device to get the best performance from the processor, but it does take a toll on the battery life. Both COD: Mobile and Asphalt 9 performed well in the Balanced and Monster modes. <div type="image" title="Game" msid="98608747" hostid="261" sizebytes="79748" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Gaming enhancements offered on the iQOO Neo 7&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> iQOO has also added a neat feature, Motion Control, to give you an edge over enemies. When enabled, it allows you to customize motions such as tilt left, tilt right, raise left, and more to particular buttons, for example, using your scope in COD: Mobile. This makes it easier to aim and kill your enemies. The iQOO Neo 7 is a great option for gamers looking for a powerful device without burning a hole in their pocket. Another area where the iQOO Neo 7 excels is the battery department. It is equipped with a large 5,000mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. The device can be charged from 0 to 50% in 10 minutes; a full charge takes 25 minutes. The device lasted a day during my testing with some gaming and YouTube usage. If you play many games with “Monster Mode,” you may have to charge your device more than once. <cmsannotation type="cmsannotation" annotationid="Camera" comment="subhead" text="Camera">Camera</cmsannotation> After many positives, the iQOO Neo 7 falls short in the camera department. If you are a balanced user who likes to capture images frequently, the lack of an ultra-wide sensor and average portrait images is an issue. A recent listing on the benchmarking platform Geekbench revealed a Nothing smartphone with the model number Nothing A059, which is expected to be the Nothing Phone (3). The device was spotted with the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset, Android 15 and 8GB RAM. The device is expected to feature a 6.5-inch display. However, earlier leaks had hinted that the Nothing Phone (3) will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. The Nothing Phone (2) was launched with the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. However, the first look at the phone is enough to tell you it is an entry-level device. The plastic build doesn’t inspire confidence, and the phone feels blocky to hold. <div type="image" title="Moto E7 Power" msid="81102473" hostid="261" caption="&amp;lt;p&amp;gt;Moto E7 Power&amp;lt;/p&amp;gt;"></div> As far as design and build quality are concerned, Motorola could have done a better job. The buttons on the right feel wonky to use, but thankfully, there were no squeaky noises during my tests. The phone sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display, with slightly thick bezels and a noticeably thick chin. The display gets bright enough indoors, but readability under direct sunlight can be challenging. The colour reproduction is good and uniform. Software Software is unarguably the biggest strength of the Moto E7 Power. It runs on stock Android with almost zero bloatware. This comes as a breath of fresh air in this price segment, so kudos to Motorola -- owned by Chinese firm Lenovo -- for this. It comes with the Facebook app bundled, but it can be uninstalled. Apart from this, the Moto E7 Power sticks to stock Android, with zero modifications to the interface. It does have a dedicated button to summon Google Assistant, which can be useful if you use it frequently. The one area where Motorola could have done better is the Android version – the Moto E7 Power comes with Android 10 out of the box instead of Android 11, which has been out for over 5 months now. Performance and battery life An octa-core MediaTek chipset drives the phone, paired with up to 4GB memory and 64GB storage. In my tests, I noticed the Moto E7 Power stutter while scrolling and navigating. However, it is worth remembering that this is an entry-level phone, so sheer power is not the important consideration here. The phone is powered by a 5,000mAh battery that lasts for over a day of usage, with intermittent calls and messages, streaming a few videos on YouTube and browsing social media. It comes with a standard 10W charger. Verdict The Moto E7 Power is an entry-level smartphone and as such, the primary focus is on the basics like the software and ease of use. It does well in these two areas since it runs on stock Android and features almost no bloatware. The memory and storage are adequate as well, so that is another point in Motorola’s favour. The display quality and camera performance could have been better, though. The design and build feel unfinished, too. But if you need a simple, no-frills entry-level phone, the Moto E7 Power is worth considering. The device does not feel heavy to hold and can be used with one hand with ease. The G54 5G comes with curved edges at the back, which makes it easier to hold. It comes with polycarbonate back with matte finish that gives it a metallic look. The back prevents fingerprint smudges and can be easily cleaned. The device comes with a rectangular camera module at the back with two camera cut-outs. It comes with a punch-hole notch in the middle and is protected by Panda glass. While an AMOLED panel would have offered better colours, the display on the G54 5G performs decently. The smartphone runs on Android 13 out of the box with the company’s My UX and offers a clutter-free UI. While it is not stock, it offers a near-stock experience. While there are no advertisements, the device does come with some pre-installed applications such as Candy Crush, LinkedIn and Magic Tiles 3. The number of pre-installed applications are minimal and can be easily uninstalled. The biggest issue with the device is that the company has promised only one Android update – to Android 14, which is almost here. This means that the device will not get any major software update after that, while still getting security updates for three years. The device is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7020 chipset and comes with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. While it is not an extremely powerful chipset, it can handle day-to-day tasks with ease. I tried popular titles such as Battlegrounds Mobile India and Asphalt 9 on the device. The Moto G54 5G offers a good gaming experience, even with Full HD graphics enabled. It is equipped with a large 6,000mAh battery with 30W charging support. The smartphone is able to capture decent images in daylight conditions, with decent details and minimal noise. However, the colours are slightly undersaturated. Images captured in low-light turned out decently, however, there was noticeable noise in the images. It is a good option for those looking for a no-hassle smartphone or for someone who does not wish to deal with highly customised and bloated UIs that devices in this range usually offer. It is to be noted that you will have to compromise on the design and the 30W charging support takes a long time to charge the 6,000mAh battery.
