Prime Minister Narendra Modi said scientists should focus their work on ‘five Es’, adding that conducting scientific research would be made easier and science administration, too, will be improved in the country. 
 Modi, while addressing the five-day <keyword id="6364272" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-science-congress">Indian Science Congress</keyword> event, said scientists should work keeping in mind Economy, Environment, Energy, Empathy and Equity. 
 
He also stressed on the need to fill the gap between traditional knowledge and modern science. 
 
“Economy related to finding cost-effective and efficient solutions; 'Environment' to keeping the carbon footprint at the lightest and the impact on the ecology the least possible,” he said. 
 
Modi added that 'Energy' -- when our prosperity relies less on energy and the energy we use keeps our skies blue and our Earth green. 
 
“'Empathy' --when our efforts are in tune with our culture, circumstances and social challenges. 'Equity' -- when science advances inclusive development and improves the welfare of the weakest," he said.

The number of innovation labs should also be increased in the institutions of higher education in the states," he said. The prime minister noted that India's Global Innovation Index ranking improved from 81 in 2015 to 46 due to the efforts of the central government.

Sushma Swaraj’s funeral will be held at Lodhi Road in Delhi today

Amid the raging row over Prime Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Narendra </a><a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narendra+modi&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Modi'</a>s educational qualification, the <keyword id="6355711" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Gujarat-University">Gujarat University</keyword> today shared details of his MA degree saying he scored 62.3 per cent as an external student of the varsity. 
 
The details were shared by the Gujarat University after the Central Information Commission directed it to provide the same to Delhi Chief Minister <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=arvind+kejriwal&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Arvind Kejriwal</a>, who had recently criticised the functioning of the transparency panel. 
 
"Narendra Damodardas Modi passed his MA in Political Science in 1983 with first class, securing 499 out of 800 marks, which comes to 62.3 per cent as an external student," Gujarat University's Vice Chancellor M N Patel told PTI today. 
 Kejriwal, in a letter to CIC in response to an RTI application seeking details of his electoral photo identity card (EPIC), demanded that while he was ready to share information sought by RTI applicants, the CIC must also order disclosure of <keyword id="994722" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="educational-qualifications">educational qualifications</keyword> of the PM. 
 After Kejriwal's letter, the CIC had on Friday ordered <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword>, from where he pursued his Bachelor of Arts (BA) course, and Gujarat University, from where he completed his MA, to reveal details of his education qualifications. 
 
Vice Chancellor Patel said he has not received any order of CIC till now, but he came to know about it from media, and will give the details to concerned applicants if he receives the order.

When asked about the details of Modi's BA degree, Patel said they do not have it. 
 
"Modi did his MA as an external candidate. He secured 237 out of 400 marks in MA first year, and 262 out of 400 marks in MA second year," Patel said giving the details. 
 
"The breakup of marks in second year MA shows that Modi 64 marks in political science, 62 marks in European and social political thoughts, 69 marks in modern India/political analysis, and 67 marks in political psychology," he said. 
 
The CIC, acting on the letter from Kejriwal, had asked the Delhi University and Gujarat University to "make best possible search for the information regarding degrees in the name of Mr Narendra Damodardas Modi in the year 1978 (Graduation in DU) and 1983 (Post Graduation in GU) and provide it to the appellant Mr Kejriwal as soon as possible"

In its latest push to create education and employment in the naxal affected areas, the Modi government expanded the scholarship programme. The scholarship amount was revised by from ₹2,250 to ₹3,000 per month for girls; and ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 for boys. In the second level of his MA exams, he went on to score 262 out of 400 marksm with 64, 62, 69 and 67 marks in 'European and Social Political Thoughts', 'Modern India', 'Political Analysis', and 'Concept Tools/Political, Psychological, Social'.

Jitendra Singh said, "The way PM Modi has given respect to science in the last 8 years, this has motivated the Indian scientists and has given a respectable place to them. Rules have been simplified, for example, space has been opened for private public participation, today the result is that private rockets are being launched from there and as soon as this year ends, you will get a wonderful kind of enthusiasm across the country." "While we will be fully prepared to launch "Gaganyaan" which will be the first human flight which will work to take an Astronaut of Indian origin to space of Indian origin, it will be the first mission of this type and hence also a pride for us. India ready to launch its first Atmanirbhar human space flight Gaganyaan by 2024

An NRI often faces this dilemma when his loyalties are in question. Are you with the country, or are you against it? That’s the most uncomfortable question he needs to answer, every time an NRI voices his concern about his homeland. Because, in simple words, an NRI is often pilloried with the accusation of running away from the country, than serving it. 
 Consider this. The answer is never easy, assumptions are complicated and conclusions on this can never be simpler. ‘It’s complicated’ if you have to answer this question in a facebook style. Broadly classify them into categories and you can find two kinds of <keyword id="58225" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NRIs">NRIs</keyword>. Keeping his word, Modi during his initial days in the office, ensured most of the practical assurances he gave to his voters and supporters were acted upon. NRIs , of course, have a bigger role to play in the emerging India than ever before. 
 
The crowd at Madison Square during his recent US visit was a testimony of his popularity even with Indians abroad. Those who left the soil for better future were hoping to hear the man, assure them their share of ‘acche din’ and engage them in a way that is gratifying for both the country and themselves. 
 
While the diaspora as a community is cautious of the radical image that has been associated with him, NRIs as a lot are also desperate to engage with a lot of passion in the future of the country. Salvaging as a word doesn’t quite convey every emotion that’s associated with it. There’s a tangible change in the attitude of NRIs towards their homeland. Some of them want to return home and participate in the bigger and brighter journey the country is going to undertake while the new leadership steers the nation towards a balanced <keyword id="42546" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Growth">growth</keyword>. Economy, money, funds, and business aren’t so dirty as they used to be when India rested on the laurels of socialism smitten ideology! 
 During the first phase of this ‘dream’ turning into reality, <keyword id="2238662" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PM-Modi">PM Modi</keyword> has initiated talks with many NRI scientists to woo them to return to their homeland and be partners in the success walk. ISRO’s astounding success with Mangalyaan has put India on a trajectory where the world watches its next step in the field of science with awe. Just as he is at home with his ‘Sangh’ image, Modi has always known the role research and science plays in the future of the country. 
 
The Ministry of Science and Technology has already approached many scientists for talks that could lead to some of the brightest minds to return to bolster the image of ‘Bharat’ as much as India. 
 
The recent slogan of ‘Make in India’ is something that puts India on center stage of things that are going to turn out in the near future. 
NRI participation will be sought on all fronts, especially where revitalisation of Indian education system, reinstating of the culture that has seemingly diluted in the recent years, and put a check to the practice of mindless borrowing from western countries. 
 
BJP-led NDA government has come at the most appropriate moment when the ‘Bharat’ will occupy the space of ‘India’ with great trade relations with the rest of the world. Mind you, focus would be a fruitful relationship that will ensure some mutual benefit. 
 
For this, the negotiating power comes from best minds that will be urged to return home and take part in the path to progress. This way, India, the largest democracy in the world, will march towards being a country of high intellect and strategic growth. And, PM Modi will lead the march.

Indian Diaspora May Play Greater Role In Future ‘Bharat’

"It is natural for India and US to have a strategic relationship. We already have the foundation for a strong partnership and now we have to revive momentum between the two countries," Modi said. In order to bring foreign investment in India, Modi invited US defence companies to come to India. 
 
US President Barack Obama said, "We discussed international situation, security issues and Middle East violence and extremism. We discussed trade and how we can work with each other and decided to deepen our existing ties with India." 
 
"The president and I spoke about many of the reforms we are undertaking and the focus on making it easy to do business in India. I expect business and economic ties between the two countries would grow at a great pace," said India’s Prime Minister.

India and China exchanged 20 agreements, including railways, education exchange programme, space cooperation, ocean sciences, etc. Deals worth $23 billion are expected to be signed between both the nations during Modi’s visit out of which $10 billion deals were signed today. 
 
While meeting Li, Modi stressed that China needed to reconsider its approach on some issues like border and its support to India’s rival Pakistan. 
 
However, he said that such issues should not hold both the countries back in realising full potential of the partnership. 
 
“We agreed that as we move ahead, we should be sensitive to each other's interests; strengthen mutual trust and confidence; continue to manage our difference with maturity; and, seek solutions to outstanding issues,” he said while making a statement. 
 
Having said that, both the South-Asian giants also sought to work together and help each other to emerge as powerful world economies. 
 
Later on, he is scheduled to address the first Forum of Leaders of the Regions of India and Beijing, which will be attended by Chief Ministers of Gujarat and Maharashtra. 
 Modi, who arrived in China on Thursday, met Chinese President <keyword id="191809" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Xi-Jinping">Xi Jinping</keyword> in the latter’s hometown, Xi’an, and worked out to enhance ties, despite years of mistrust. 
 
Both the nations face an array of issues, including border dispute and China’s backing to Pakistan. Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi urged Modi to work together to promote the international order in a fair direction. 
 
During his stay in Xi’an, Modi also visited Daxingshan Temple, Terracotta Army museum and Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. 
 
Modi is on a three-nation tour in which he will also visit Mongolia and South Korea and the visits will end on May 19.
