MK Stalin has been nurturing the dreams of becoming Tamil Nadu’s chief minister, a post which his father M. Karunanidhi had held several terms in the past. Stalin and Kolathur constituency Kolathur seat was born in 2011 after the reorganisation of constituencies. Right from the first election the constituency faced, Stalin’s name has been figuring on the ballot paper for DMK in all the elections. The compelling reason for Stalin to choose Kolathur constituency is the fact that this had proved to be a strong bastion for DMK. In the 2016 assembly elections, Stalin won from here scoring 91,303 votes. His winning margin was 37,730 votes, which made up around 22.42 per cent of the total number of votes the people casted. Over the past 10 years, he has nurtured this constituency with a lot of developmental activities. Kolathur constituency has the advantage of a sizeable Muslim population. The large middle class and lower middle class segment here also favors DMK. Stalin enjoys a strong support of the Muslim groups and left unions. Stalin’s wife Durga is also seen actively campaigning for his husband as well as for the party. A worthy opponent for Stalin Aadi Rajaram is the South Chennai North (East) district secretary of the AIADMK. In the 2006 elections, he faced Stalin in the Thousand Lights constituency. Stalin could win him with a thin margin of 2,468 votes. This is one of the reasons why AIADMK has decided to field Aadi Rajaram against Stalin in Kolathur now. Stalin’s advantages Stalin also enjoys the advantage of facing the election with the title of DMK’s party president. The party structure is now very strong. Stalin had been a political personality accepted by all people beyond the barriers of caste and religion. This status is something that he enjoys after Karunanidhi and J.Jayalalitha. Stalin</keyword> on Saturday appealed to the <keyword id="6359479" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu-government">Tamil Nadu government</keyword> to blacklist the Chinese company and levy a heavy penalty on the supply of the inferior products. He also said the <keyword id="26362" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Government">government</keyword> should stop payment of the ₹456 crore balance to the Chinese company. According to Stalin, the Electronics Corporation of <keyword id="20154" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> Ltd (Elcot) had issued a tender for procurement of 15.66 lakh laptops for free supply to students at an outlay of ₹1,921 crore. Without naming the Chinese company, Stalin said the company had participated in the bid and submitted two models and test reports on their performance, while stating the price of the two models to be the same. Stalin said that as per the test reports, one laptop model has scored 465 marks and the other 265 marks, which means one of the models is inferior in performance. According to the DMK leader, the government opted to buy the lesser performing laptop model which in turn had enriched the Chinese company unduly to the tune of ₹469 crore. Not only that, one of the tender conditions was that the laptops should have the provision to increase its memory capacity from 4 GB to 8 GB, but the laptops supplied by the Chinese company did not have that facility. Stalin said the government had decided to give additional ₹392 crore for the cost of the new motherboard so that the laptops' memory capacity could be increased to 8 GB. The Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Stalin said the state government has already paid Rs 1,465 crore to the Chinese company and steps are being taken to pay the balance of Rs 456 crore before the electoral model code of conduct kicks in. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (<keyword id="6357766" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="dmk">DMK</keyword>) President <keyword id="96364" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="MK-Stalin">MK Stalin</keyword> on Tuesday demanded scrapping of <keyword id="6361994" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="NEET">NEET</keyword> for medical college admissions as the Centre had allowed for separate entrance tests in its 11 such institutions in <keyword id="20154" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>. Similarly, in medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, admissions for postgraduate courses should not be made based on National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) scores, he said. Stalin urged Chief Minister K Palaniswami to write to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on this subject so that admissions to postgraduate medical courses could be made and 69 per cent reservation quota implemented for the same. The Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly also urged Palanswami to hold counselling for admissions to special medical courses for government doctors with 50 per cent reservation.

Udhayanidhi’s key competitor in this seat is AVA Kassali, a PMK candidate. Talking to the reporters after getting the ticket to contest in this seat, Udhayanidhi Stalin said, “I have been given the ticket to contest from Chennai’s Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency. I thank the leaders who gave me a chance to contest from this seat. I will work hard and hope to win by a huge margin.” The brick stunt flashing in the media Udhayanidhi is a well-known figure from the film industry. Through his strikingly attractive election campaign strategy, he had managed to grab the news headlines during the final phase of election campaign. His idea was that the smaller size of the constituency could demand less of his time during the campaign and hence he would find more time for a state-wide campaign. Also, the insider view from this constituency says Udhayanidhi was also targeting the votes of the minority voters in this constituency. Udhayanidhi’s prospects of winning from the Chepauk–Tiruvallikeni constituency Political observers feel the debut game for Udhayanidhi in this constituency will not be a tough one. The majority of the voters in this seat have been favoring the DMK party for so long, an allegiance they had been taught by the former Chief Minister of the state Karunanidhi. The legacy created by his grandfather can come to Udhayanidhi’s aid now. Chepauk–Tiruvallikeni constituency is located in the heart of Chennai. This constituency represented the DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi thrice between 1996 and 2011. He won all of these elections and became the Chief Minister two times. He banked on this seat heavily till he made a move to Tiruvarur later. J.Anbalagan, a senior party leader of DMK also won from this constituency. Hence the prospects of Karunanidhi’s grandson winning from here is an undisputed conclusion anyone familiar with the political scene in Tamil Nadu can make. AVA Kassali, the PMK candidate is a lesser known personality in this constituency. Since the AIADMK has pushed aside this seat for its ally PMK, it will not focus much on the electoral campaign here. By choosing a seat that will enable a much safer game, Udhayanidhi has strong prospects of winning from here. Actor Udhayanidhi Stalin of DMK races past opponents in Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni

<keyword id="7352914" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="L-Murugan">L Murugan</keyword>, the present of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tamil Nadu, is fighting the 2021 state assembly election from the Dharapuram constituency. And, while he was ahead for a while, Murugan lost seat against, Kayalvizhi N by over 1393 votes. This is the fourth time that Murugan has contested an election in his political career. However, this is his first time stepping onto the field after being appointed to the saffron party’s state leadership in March 2020. Murugan had been quite confident about his win, telling reporters that he would come out ahead by at least 10,000 votes prior to counting day. He predicted that he was a shoe in since the DMK candidate was a new face, relatively unknown within the political landscape. Muruugan and Dharapuram seat “Despite my hometown being Paramathi Velur in Namakkal District, I choose to contest in Dharapuram only to uplift its highly deserving segment of people,” Murugan was seen telling reporters repeatedly during his campaign trail. He expects to win by a margin of no less than 50,000 votes. Reacting to the criticism by opposition that he is an outsider to Dharapuram, Murugan said, “Why is DMK president M.K. Stalin is contesting from Kolathur constituency instead of his hometown in Tiruvarur district.” Murugan’s campaign was unconventional Dharapuram is a seat reserved for the scheduled caste. This seat is home to a significant population of Arunathiyars, Pallars, Kuravars and other scheduled communities. In a move to appeal to the characteristic voters of this seat, Murugan has adopted a different campaigning strategy than his usual pitch. With a predominant focus on the villages — he walked most part of the election campaign by foot and took up meetings under tree shades and temple premises. Introduced by the party men to the locals as ‘Namma Aalu’ (our man), he closely interacted with the field workers and laborers enquiring about their problems and difficulties. During the campaigns, he ate with the party men to strengthen the bond and coordination. His supporters said the response they found during the campaign was certainly reassuring. Murugan chose to jump into politics very early in his life. While he was still in college, he was an active member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) student wing. He unsuccessfully contested the 2011 Tamil Nadu assembly election from Rasipuram constituency, getting only 1,730 votes, which was around 1.07% of the vote share. The NEET exam for 2021 is scheduled between September 11 and 12. He said in his tweet, that the legal battle against the entrance exam was just the beginning and promised to bring a bill against it . The NEET exam is conducted every year in more than 201 cities across the country for admission in undergraduate medical courses.
