The report says that even though Goa is increasingly a popular choice for international travellers, it requires government support to make it more accessible to foreigners. In a media statement, the department said that charter flights from key markets like Russian cities Moscow and Ekaterinburg, London, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, support international arrivals. A Polish charter flight is also set to arrive in the coastal state on November 8. The statement added that this international interest extends beyond Goa’s iconic beaches, with tourists increasingly exploring areas like Dudhsagar Falls and scenic hinterlands. To further boost connectivity, Goa is collaborating with airlines and seeking government support to improve flight routes, creating a more globally connected tourism landscape. "However, establishing robust direct international connectivity requires further support from the Government of India, which we are actively seeking to make Goa an even more attractive, accessible, and globally connected destination," a spokesperson said. He added that after pandemic disruptions, Goa’s international tourism is rebounding, with over 450,000 foreign arrivals recorded in 2023. Alongside domestic visitors, totaling over 8 million this year, the state’s tourism sector is also thriving. Addressing challenges like limited direct flights, Goa’s tourism officials are working to secure new airline agreements, ensuring an easier journey for international visitors. He also talked about the challenges that the tourism destination is facing, including limited connectivity by air. "Goa does face some challenges. For example, limited scheduled international air connectivity. The state government is working closely with the Centre to relook at point of call and additional seat entitlement for Goa, to establish more robust international connections," he said. So far, one person has died, and 10 others have been hospitalized in connection with the outbreak, which impacted 49 people across 10 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Tuesday. McDonald's said it believes the outbreak may be linked to the slivered onions used on its Quarter Pounder. The fast-food chain said it is temporarily taking the burger off the menu in several states. "Negative <keyword id="20000858" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="food-safety" source="keywords">food safety</keyword> news is never welcomed by restaurants operators, especially those working to improve the brand image after getting off-sides on consumer affordability in recent years," Jon Tower, an analyst at Citigroup, said in a note to clients, according to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-10-22/mcdonald-s-quarter-pounders-linked-to-e-coli-outbreak-cdc-says?srnd=homepage-americas&amp;sref=yaJhKSOh">Bloomberg</a>. Examining how other fast-food giants have recovered from recent health-related crises might also provide insight into how McDonald's will try to recover from the incident. <h2>How Chipotle and Wendy's came back from health-related problems</h2>Several fast-food brands have bounced back from food-safety incidents before. One of those is Chipotle, the fast-casual Mexican chain that McDonald's had a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/the-ridiculous-reason-mcdonalds-sold-chipotle-2015-5">90% stake in</a> until 2006. In 2015 and 2016, hundreds of customers reported becoming ill after eating at Chipotle outlets. Chipotle's stock price plummeted, and the company eventually agreed to pay a $25 million <a target="_blank" href="https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/press-releases/chipotle-mexican-grill-agrees-pay-25-million-fine-resolve-charges-stemming-more-1100-cases-foodborne">fine</a> to settle criminal charges related to outbreaks that impacted 1,100 people between 2015 and 2018. But less than five years later, the company and its stock price had <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/business/chipotle-stock-earnings.html">recovered</a>. So what did Chipotle do? In 2016, the company <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://ir.chipotle.com/news-releases?item=122453">announced</a> a spate of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2016/09/22/business/every-days-a-safety-drill-as-chipotle-woos-customers-back.html?rref=collection%2Fbyline%2Fstephanie-strom">new food-safety protocols</a> — such as rinsing produce multiple times and putting stickers on food storage containers to indicate when they were sanitized — and hired James Marsden,a professor from Kansas State University, to serve as executive director of food safety. In 2017, Chipotle <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://ir.chipotle.com/news-releases?item=122384">announced</a> its founder, Steve Ells, would be stepping down as CEO in favor of someone with "demonstrated turnaround expertise." In 2018, Brian Niccol, currently the CEO of Starbucks, <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://ir.chipotle.com/news-releases?item=122376">took over</a> as the CEO of Chipotle after a successful stint at the helm of Taco Bell. Niccol told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/business/chipotle-stock-earnings.html">The New York Times</a> in 2019 that Chipotle had become "an industry leader" in food safety, adding: "We're doing some really progressive things on the food safety front, and we're going to have to, because we're going to stay committed to using real ingredients." Chipotle's recovery may also have hinged on expanding the business in areas unrelated to food safety. "They are exceptional in how well the brand has capitalized on digital ordering," Sara Senatore, a Bernstein analyst who followed Chipotle, told <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/07/23/business/chipotle-stock-earnings.html">the Times</a> in 2019. Wendy's dealt with a similar situation. Between July and August 2022, Wendy's restaurants were linked to an E. coli outbreak in six states, per <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://archive.cdc.gov/www_cdc_gov/ecoli/2022/o157h7-08-22/index.html">the CDC</a>. A total of 109 people were infected, with 52 hospitalized. No deaths were reported. An investigation into the incident was unable to determine the specific food source responsible for the outbreak, but 46 people reported eating romaine lettuce served on the burgers and sandwiches before falling sick, per <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://archive.cdc.gov/www_cdc_gov/ecoli/2022/o157h7-08-22/details.html">the CDC</a>. As a precaution, the fast-food chain removed romaine lettuce from menu items in the affected states. Despite the E. coli outbreak, the company's US sales <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://s1.q4cdn.com/202642389/files/doc_financials/2022/q3/2022-Q3-Press-Release.pdf">jumped 7.7% in the third quarter of 2022</a>, compared with the year prior. In its latest <a target="_blank" href="https://www.wendys.com/csr-what-we-value/reports">corporate responsibility report</a>, published in May, Wendy's said it was committed to continuously improving its food safety standards and operational procedures and has conducted over 12,000 Food Safety Assessments in its restaurants worldwide. <h2>What McDonald's should do</h2>The McDonald's case differs from similar incidents at other <keyword id="20697449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fast-food-chains" source="keywords">fast-food chains</keyword> primarily due to the iconic status of the Quarter Pounder, Alexandra Leung, the founder of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://monogic.co/">Monogic</a>, an F&amp;B marketing and PR agency in Singapore and Hong Kong, told Business Insider. "As a classic menu item, any food safety issue involving the Quarter Pounder could significantly impact consumer trust and brand reputation, making it a more sensitive issue for McDonald's," she said. The Quarter Pounder is important to McDonald's menu — and to its brand more broadly. Menu "classics" like the Quarter Pounder <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mcdonalds-quarter-pounder-ecoli-outbreak-why-important-sales-2024-10">have made up a bulk of food sales</a> in McDonald's top markets in recent years. The company's stock price tumbled nearly 10% in after-hours trading on Tuesday, following the news. However, Leung said the company's well-established food safety management system and history of rigorous supplier audits may allow for a more effective response. The fast-food chain will also have to conduct thorough audits of its suppliers' practices, she said. In addition to removing any affected items from the menu, McDonald's should also communicate clearly with its customers throughout the process, Leung said. "Clear messaging about the steps being taken to ensure food safety is vital. This proactive approach will help reassure customers that their health is a top priority," Leung said. "Transparency is crucial in rebuilding trust with customers, as it demonstrates accountability and a commitment to their safety." That increase, when capacity was only up 3%, suggests customers are <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/southwest-airlines-route-changes-investor-day-atlanta-nashville-hawaii-2024-9">willing to pay for upgrades</a>, something the industry badly needs to get out of a rut. Airlines are making a miraculous recovery by doubling down on premium seats

According to a report by the International Data Corporation (IDC), the growth in sales was recorded due to online festival sales which began early this year. “The e-tail sales, which typically start around the second week of October, began in late September, leading to a surge in PC shipments,” said Bharath Shenoy, Research Manager, IDC India &amp; South Asia. In Q3 2024, desktops recorded an 8.1% year-on-year decline, notebooks recorded a 2.8% year-on-year growth and workstations recorded a 2.4% year-on-year growth. Premium notebooks priced above $1,000 recorded a 7.6% year-on-year growth. “Brands capitalized on e-tail sales by offering steep discounts, cashback, and bundled accessories. Many of them also matched similar pricing in their brand stores and offline channels like Larger Format Retail stores (LFRs), leading to the second biggest consumer quarter in history,” Shenoy added. India’s PC market reaches new high with 4.49 million shipments in Q3 2024

New Delhi: Steel companies in the country are likely to face margin pressure in the third quarter of FY25 as muted steel prices compress spreads, according to a report by Axis Securities. The report stated that the weak demand in China and higher exports from the country have been identified as key factors behind the decline in steel prices. The report highlighted that <keyword id="24048830" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chinese-steel-exports" source="keywords">Chinese steel exports</keyword> reached 92 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) between January and October 2024, marking a 22 per cent year-on-year increase. This has led to an oversupply in the global market, weighing down prices domestically. It said "Weak Chinese domestic demand along with higher Chinese exports has led to a decline in steel prices in India. Chinese steel exports from Jan'24 to Oct'24 stood at 92 MTPA, up 22 per cent YoY" In India, the average price of hot-rolled coil (HRC) steel in the trader's market in Mumbai fell by 8 per cent year-on-year and 6 per cent quarter-on-quarter to Rs 51,802 per tonne in the second quarter of FY25. Spot prices have further declined to Rs 49,000 per tonne, 5 per cent lower than the Q2FY25 average. The report also noted some signs of recovery in China's residential property sector, with increased transactions in major cities following policy measures aimed at boosting demand. However, challenges remain, as the three-month moving average of year-to-date floor space declined by 19 per cent year-on-year in September 2024, remaining in negative territory. It said "China's residential property sector is showing some signs of improvement with the transactions in major cities rising after recent policy measures introduced to boost demand". On the global front, the report noted that the probability of a 25-basis point rate cut by the US Federal Reserve in its December 2024 meeting has fallen to 58.9 per cent, down from 76.8 per cent in October 2024, owing to strong economic data from the US. Additionally, China has removed a 13 per cent export rebate on aluminum and copper, effective December 1, 2024, in response to anticipated tariff measures by the new US administration. These developments highlight the ongoing challenges and potential shifts in the global and domestic steel and metals markets.

Sahil Kapoor, Head of Products and Market Strategist, DSP Mutual Fund, said, "The calm in the markets, marked by an unnerving lack of volatility, is a double-edged sword. While it provides a sense of stability, it also masks underlying risks that could surface unexpectedly, catching investors off guard. To ensure a sustainable recovery, there is a need for the private sector and households to take the lead, transforming fiscal stimulus into lasting economic growth." However, the report notes a shift in market dynamics, with the momentum factor, which has outperformed since the COVID-19 bottom, beginning to lose its dominance. At the same time, the quality factor, which had underperformed over the last four years, is now seeing a resurgence, potentially indicating a change in market leadership that could favour quality-orientated funds, both active and passive. The report highlights the critical role government spending has played in the recovery, with a focus on capital investments crucial for future growth. However, contributions from the private corporate sector and households have lagged. It also draws attention to a slowdown in India's per capita consumption, approaching lows seen in previous cycles. Given that consumption accounts for around 60% of GDP, it is vital that this sector grows at a rate exceeding GDP growth to stimulate private capital expenditure. India's <keyword id="487578" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tax-collections" source="Orion">tax collections</keyword> have demonstrated robust growth, with gross tax revenue showing a five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14 %. This growth, largely driven by <keyword id="6354751" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="income-tax" source="Orion">income tax</keyword>, indicates a rising dependency on capital gains and stock market performance, introducing new vulnerabilities to the economy.
