In the first <keyword id="6364850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Mann-ki-Baat">Mann Ki Baat</keyword> session of 2016 yesterday, Indian Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> announced a new mobile number, which would allow people to listen to the broadcast any time on their mobile phones after giving a missed call. 
 
The new number announced by the PM is 8190881908, and it has already received over four lakh missed calls from Indian citizens who want to subscribe to the service. 
 
"We had 4 lakh missed calls till late evening...over 25,000 calls came in the first hour itself after the broadcast ended... the number is rising," a senior government official told ET. 
 
As per sources, the new number is provided so that the reach of the Mann Ki Baat programme can be widened, even to the remote areas of rural India. "If someone is not able to tune in at 11 am on the last Sunday of the month to listen to the Mann Ki Baat, the option the person has is to go to the Internet and listen to the broadcast on a sound cloud. But that presumes a person has a good quality Internet connection. Many in rural India, our farmers, do not have it. But mobile penetration in India is very high. Leaving a missed call on the number will trigger an integrated outbound calling solution with the caller getting a call to listen to the Mann Ki Baat," the official explained.

New number of PM Modi’s Mann Ki Baat receives over four lakh missed calls in a day

If everything goes as planned, you never know if India beats Silicon Valley in having more number of startups as the country has the backing of its Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 
 
Modi, during his monthly radio address ‘Mann ki baat’, said he would soon unveil Startup India, Standup India. 
 
"Startup India, Standup India will bring about a big opportunity for the youth of the country. On January 16, the government will launch the complete action plan of the project. All IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management), IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology), central universities, NITs (National Institutes of Technology) will be joined with this programme through live connectivity," Modi said. 
 
This will come as a breather for many people who have creative ideas and lack a slew of things to launch their startups. With the backing of the government, aspiring entrepreneurs will be able to devise new systems. 
 
"We have to change the concept according to the requirements of our country. If a poor man does physical labour and a youth creates something through an innovation which lessens the physical effort of the labourer, I would consider that also a startup. I would ask banks to help such youth. Also, Startup India, Standup India, should not be limited to certain cities - it should spread to all corners of the country. I want to urge state governments also to spread this thought," Modi said. 
 
During his ‘Mann ki baat’ address, Modi reiterated his slogan for clean India and asked people to clean the statues of national and state leaders as part of his pet campaign, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, before January 26.

In the 110th episode of the programme, he said there is a possibility that the <keyword id="20218678" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="model-code-of-conduct" source="keywords">Model Code of Conduct</keyword> will be enforced in March as it was done during the last polls as well, a reference to the expected announcement of the election schedule sometime next month. It is a big success of the programme that it has been kept away even from the shadow of the government during its 110 episodes, he said, asserting that the broadcast has been dedicated to the country's collective strength and achievements. "It is a programme of the people, for the people and by the people," the prime minister said. "When we meet the next time, it will be 111th episode of the Mann Ki Baat," Modi added, noting the auspiciousness associated with the number. What can be better than this, he said. The prime minister has frequently expressed confidence of retaining power in the elections. The programme was deferred before the 2019 general elections as well.

No 'Mann ki Baat' broadcast for 3 months in view of polls: PM Modi

The Prime Minister gave his frequent radio address, called the Mann ki Baat, on January 30, but there was no mention of the Pegasus issue. The opposition is likely to launch a high decibel protest, demanding a response from the Modi government in the Parliament when it opens for <a href="https://businessinsider.in/budget">the Budget session this week</a>. A minister of the Modi government, Ashwini Vaishnaw, had denied the snooping charge in Parliament saying India was not one of the buyers of the Pegasus spyware. The Ministry of Defence backed it up saying it didn’t do any transaction with the NSO Group that sells Pegasus. The government lawyer maintained a similar stance at the Supreme Court of India as well, but the court did not find it convincing. These were some of the court’s observations after the government’s response to the charge that it used national security as an excuse to illegally monitor its detractors: <ul><li>There has been no specific denial by the Centre. Thus, we have no option but to accept the submissions of the petitioner and appoint an expert committee whose function will be overseen by the Supreme Court.</li><li>There is no clear stand from the government. So far, there is a tweet from a junior minister for civil aviation and road transport and highways, General VK Singh, who has called the New York Times ‘supari media’. Taking a Supari ⁠— the Hindi word for betel nut ⁠— is a colloquially used to describe a hit job. Syed Akbaruuddin, India’s former permanent representative to the UN, <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/utter-rubbish-ex-diplomat-syed-akbaruddin-on-nyt-pegasus-report-citing-indias-un-vote-2736819">has ‘rubbished’ the link</a> with India’s stance in support of Israel against Palestinians. Other than these, there isn’t another official word on the matter so far. Considering the seriousness of the charge, it would be fair to expect that the Prime Minister would have defended the government in his Mann ki baat address to the voters today. Either team Modi doesn’t take the charge of ‘lying to Parliament’ seriously. It’s not a good show on an elected government in a democracy that it doesn’t take offence to being called a liar, especially in the Parliament. Or, it doesn’t have enough material to defend itself. An expert committee appointed by the Supreme Court, led by a former judge RV Raveendran, is already <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/supreme-court-of-india-verdict-on-pegasus-spying-case-appoints-a-retired-judge-committee-for-probe/articleshow/87299281.cms">looking into the snooping charges</a>. If the three-member panel arrives at a conclusion that there was illegal supervision, it could automatically imply that the tool i.e. Pegasus was purchased by the government. A clean chit from the Justice Raveendran panel would be a good thing for Modi and his government but it isn’t here, at least not yet. Meanwhile, ignoring the charge of lying, or wishing it away, is not an option. Modi also used the platform to mount an attack on the <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> to mark the 41st anniversary of the declaration of Emergency. 

	 
	"In our big cities, when we see some of the houses that are worth crores, there seems to be some discord. Some people make well over 50 lakh rupees a year, but don't declare it. They do this to avoid paying their taxes. I am calling on all of them to come forward and declare their true incomes and pay their taxes by September 30," said PM Modi in the radio address. 
	 

	"There will be no leniency after that," he added. Modi also touched upon criticism that his 'Mann ki Baat' programme has been facing, saying such criticism was possible only in a democracy. He then attacked the Congress over the Emergency, calling its declaration the darkest moment for India's democracy. "All the rights of citizens were taken away. The country was turned into a prison. Many political leaders like <keyword id="6385361" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jayaprakash-Narayan">Jayaprakash Narayan</keyword> were thrown in jail," he said. 
	He then said democracy was India's biggest strength and called for it to be strengthened. 
	 

	PM Modi touched on a number of other topics in his monthly radio address. He expressed pride over the three lady officers who have become the first batch of women fighter pilots. 
	 He expressed pride over the fact that none of them were from the metro cities, or even the capitals of their respective states.He also congratulated ISRO for its achievement of launching 20 satellites in a single stroke, and expressed pride over the SATYABAMASAT and SWAYAM, the microsatellites built by the students of Chennai's <keyword id="3444822" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="satyabama-university">Satyabama University</keyword> and Pune's College of Engineering respectively. He also praised the country's scientific community for its efforts in working towards a better India.

"In our last video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modiji, I had been vocal against the UGC guidelines mandating completion of terminal examinations in universities and colleges by the end of September 2020, which had a huge potential to put student lives at risk," Banerjee tweeted. It is to be noted that NEET is scheduled on September 13 and JEE-Mains will be held from September 1-6. "Now with the directive of the Education Ministry to conduct NEET, JEE 2020 in September, I would again appeal to the Centre to assess the risk and postpone these examinations until the situation is conducive again,a she said. Earlier, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi had also urged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led central government to consider the 'Mann Ki Baat' of students and address the postponement issue of the entrance examinations. Meanwhile, India on Monday recorded 61,408 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 836 deaths in the last 24-hours. "It is our duty to ensure a safe environment for all our students," Banerjee said. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee urges Centre to postpone NEET-JEE 2020

5 life lessons from Narendra Modi’s Mann ki Baat

"I have an exam tomorrow," Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> said today referring to presentation of General Budget in Parliament as he gave a pep talk to motivate students appearing for board exams for which he even roped icons like <keyword id="6354267" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sachin-Tendulkar">Sachin Tendulkar</keyword> and Vishwanathan Anand. 

	Modi said he was "full of confidence" ahead of his "examination" by 125 crore people, a trait which he wanted students to emulate when they appear for their examinations for Class X and XII starting Tuesday. 
 In his monthly radio programme '<keyword id="6364850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mann-ki-Baat">Mann Ki Baat</keyword>', he emphasised that students should appear for the exams with a "positive approach" having free and calm mind without any anxiety. He also asked parents not to put pressure on them. 

	In this context, he cited his example in the context of presentation of Budget which all the countrymen closely monitor and analyse.
 

	"Friends, your exams are starting. I too have exam tomorrow. The country's 125 crore people are going to take my examination," the Prime Minister said, while pointing out that Budget is being presented tomorrow.
 

	"But you must have seen how healthy I am feeling, how full of confidence I am. Let my exams take place tomorrow and yours day after and may all of us succeed so that the nation succeeds...Move ahead with a free mind, without any tension of success or failure," he said in his 35-minute programme.
 

	To lay stress on a positive and tension-free approach, Modi roped in Sachin, Anand besides Bharat Ratna scientist C N R Rao and spiritual leader Murari Bapu, whose messages were played during the programme. They gave their own examples of how they approached their exams in their respective fields, keeping tension aside.
 

	Underlining that "positive approach" and "positive frame of mind" help in all aspects of life, the Prime Minister talked about himself and said when he comes across some issues which he is not familiar with, he concentrates to deal with them.
 

	"Sometimes I feel tension within. Then I feel that I should relax a bit so that I feel good. So I have developed my own technique. I do some deep breathing. I take deep breath three times, five times. It may take a few seconds but my mind becomes ready to deal with the situation with a calm mind. This may be my experience but this may help you too," he told the students.
 

	Modi, a practioner of yoga, also referred to this art and mentioned how it helps in improving concentration and strengthening inner peace. 
 

	To motivate the students, the Prime Minister also invoked Thomas Alva Edison, who invented electricity, and J K Rowling of Harry Potter fame, saying their success had possibly come after many failures.
 

	"There is success in failure too" if there is a positive approach, he said, while asking students to have dedication, determination and diligence to achieve success. 
 

	Giving example of Sachin, Modi asked students not be burdened by expectations of others but set their own targets with "free thinking, free mind and independent capability".
 

	He told students that nobody can stop them if they set out to break their own records.
 

	The students should link their efforts to acheive big goals like Sachin and even if the targets are not achieved, do not be demoralised but try harder, Modi said. 
 

	Sachin, in his message played during the programme, said, "I understand that exams are starting in a few days. Many of you must be tense....I want to say that your thinking needs to be positive, then positive results will follow. So be positive. God will give you good results... Write the exams with free mind and results will be good."
 

	He said there will be many expectations of the students from their parents, teachers, family members and friends who all will keep enquiring about their preparations and their expected percentage. 
 

	"I will only say that you yourself set your targets and don't come under pressure of expectations of others. Work hard but set a realistic achievable target and try to achieve it," said the cricket icon.
 

	Giving his own example, he said, "When I played cricket, there were many expectations from me. In the last 24 years, there have been many tough moments and at times good moments also. But people's expectations kept rising with time. So I had to find a solution. I thought that I will keep only my expectations and set my own targets.
 

	"If I am able to achieve those targets, then I am able to do some good for the country... I always focussed on the ball and with time my targets were achieved.
 

	Emphasising that students should have sound sleep before appearing for exams, the Prime Minister said himself sleeps less, which was his "shortcoming" and he was trying to rectify it.
 

	"I agree that sleeping on time and deep sleep are as important as other activities during the day. I am lucky that I sleep less but I have deep sleep. This helps," he said.
 

	Underlining the need for discipline and focus in life, Modi gave the example of world chess champion Vishwanathan Anand, saying his concentration is always intense when he plays the game and checkmates others, like Arjun's target of the eye of a fish.
 

	Anand asked students to have good sleep, eat well and be calm when they appear for examinations. 
 

	"It is important not to put too much pressure on yourself, don't keep your expectations too high. Just see it as a challenge... Don't be over-confident. But don't be pessimistic either," he said.
 

	Modi added that if a person lacks confidence, then there is no peace within, which affects work. 
 

	Rao asked students to decide what they want and try to achieve it through their "doggedness, dedication and tenacity. With all these qualities, you will succeed in all examinations and all other endeavours."
 

	The Prime Minister noted that the country today celebrates the National Science Day to commemorate the announcement of Nobel Laureate C V Raman's discovery 'Raman Effect' in 1928.
 

	This year's theme is 'Make in India Science and Technology Driven Innovations', he said as he pitched for innovation.
 

	He also said that Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) was being established in India, becoming only the third country in the world to have it.
 

	He lauded the Indian scientists for being part of the recent discovery of Gravitational Waves which had confirmed Einstein's theory.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to address the nation this evening, and according to reports, is expected to spell out the post-demonetisation roadmap. 
 
This will be his second address to the nation since his announcement to scrap 1,000 and 500 rupees notes on November 8. 
 
While announcing the landmark decision, he had asked the people to give 50 days for demonetisation and getting accustomed to a cashless economy. 
 
In a television address to the nation on November 8, Prime Minister Modi said, "The magnitude of cash in circulation is directly linked to the level of corruption. Inflation becomes worse through the deployment of cash earned in corrupt ways." 
 
He said to break the grip of corruption and black money, the government has decided that from midnight Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 currency notes will cease to be legal tender. 
 
"The Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 notes hoarded by anti-national and anti-social elements will become just worthless pieces of paper," he added. 
 
Till date, the government has made several changes to the norms. 
 
After reports on crop sowing taking a hit due to no availability of cash, the government allowed the farmers to buy seeds with old Rs. 500 currency notes. 
 
A November 17 announcement allowed the farmers to withdraw up to Rs. 25,000 per week from their KYC-compliant account. 
 
Following reports on abuse of Jan Dhan accounts, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) capped the withdrawal limit to Rs. 10,000 per month. 
 
On November 17, the government made more modifications to the existing rules. Families could now withdraw up to Rs. 2.5 lakh for weddings. 
 
The currency exchange limit was reduced from Rs. 4,500 to Rs. 2,000 per person. 
 
The traders in agricultural mandis were permitted to draw up to Rs. 50,000 in cash per week to pay for sundry expenses like wages. Also, government employees up to Group C could draw Rs. 10,000 salary in advance in cash. 
 
The demonetisation decision has also taken a toll on the common man, with reports of some dying while standing in queues to collect money. 
 
In between all this, Prime Minister Modi has continued to address the nation at various public gatherings and through his 'Mann ki Baat' radio programme. 
 
Making an emotional appeal at an event in Goa on November 13, Prime Minister Modi asked the "honest" people of the country to bear the hardships for another 50 days. 
 
Exactly two weeks later on November 27, the Prime Minister urged the farmers and small traders to go cashless at his monthly 'Mann ki Baat' address. 
 
"The common man will be trouble free if they are made aware of the digital financial transaction options," he said asking the youth to lead the change. 
 
The opposition cornered the government during the winter session of parliament over the inconvenience faced by the nation post-demonetisation.

He also announced that the Coal auction would get Rs 3 lakh crores for India. 
 
Modi also touched upon Shrameva Jayate Yojana and said that dignity of labour must be our motto. He also waged war on corruption, disclosing that the CBI has registered a whopping 1800 corruption cases after he became Prime Minister.
