With Assembly elections likely to be held early next year, the political temperature in Delhi is heating up. The <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> (AAP) has already announced its first list of candidates and the second list is expected anytime. In an exclusive interview to Business Insider’s Manish Kumar, senior AAP leader <keyword id="6354681" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manish-Sisodia">Manish Sisodia</keyword> dismissed Congress as a “finished party” and said that <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> is faceless in the state. Here are the edited excerpts: 

	The Delhi Assembly elections are likely to be held in February-March next year. What would be Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) strategy in this election? What would be the key issues on which you will attack the BJP and the Congress? 
	Congress is a finished party. It has only done kukarm (bad deeds) wherever it got power. People have started hating Congress. It’s not about disliking it. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been trying to fill this gap. But if you talk about Delhi, BJP is too scared in Delhi. I am not saying this as an opponent of the BJP. I am saying this on the basis of facts. If you see the recent elections in Haryana and Maharashtra, none of the states had a viable option to the BJP. Hence, it fought the elections with full confidence. But it Delhi, it had been dilly-dallying on holding the elections. But now they have no option. This is for the first time that it has asked its MPs to come to Delhi and work here. It did not do so in Maharashtra and Haryana elections. This is because BJP is afraid of losing in Delhi. That is why it is deploying its 300 MPs in Delhi. 
	 
 

	Will the Jan Lok Pal Bill continue to remain in your agenda?

	Jan Lokpal, honest governance and strict action against those who indulge in corruption have been our planks and will always be. Hum hain hi isliye. Had any other party worked honestly, we would not have entered in politics. They forced us to join politics. Otherwise, I would have been pursuing my career in journalism. 
	 
	 

	Corruption has almost become a way of life. You can’t even get a driving license without paying bribe. If you promise to make Delhi like Shanghai, New York or Singapore, it has no meaning for a common man. It is just a political gimmick. For a person who is planning to open a shop, what matters to him is that he does not have to pay bribe for this. Everybody has a certain expectation from this city, and it is very important to meet these expectations. People want such education system where they do not have to run from pillar to post for their children’s admission… they are not compelled to sell their land to pay heavy donations. Nobody talks about these fundamental issues. Instead, parties come up with fancy dreams… Shanghai bana denge, Singapore bana denge. Vision is not Shanghai; vision is living. 
	 
	 

	The vote share of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swelled from 33% in the last year’s Assembly election to 46% in this year’s Lok Sabha election. On the other hand, AAP's vote share increased to just 33% from 29%. How will you overcome this huge difference? That was due to the Modi wave. People wanted to elect <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>. But this time, people are not going to elect Modi. 
	 
	 

	In case of another hung Assembly even after fresh elections, would you accept or extend support to either BJP or Congress? 
	 

	We never think haar gaye to kya karenge. We only focus on jeet gaye to kya karenge. This is our philosophy. 
	 
	 

	I am not talking about losing the election. My question to you is about hung Assembly. 
	 

	That may be your perception. For us, anything less than 36 seats would mean losing the election. 
	 
	 

	Will you play the role of a constructive opposition if you don’t manage to win 36 seats? 
	 

	We don’t think on this line. This is not our philosophy. You are forcing me to think on this line. 
	 
	 

	Many leaders like Shazia Ilmi, MS Dhir etc. have ditched AAP. How do you think this would impact the party’s prospects? Does it not demoralise workers and volunteers? 
	 

	Can you name five leaders who were effective in AAP and left the party? (We named four: Shazia Ilmi, MS Dhir, Captain Gopinath and Maulana Qasmi, and this is how he responded) Maulana Qasmi was a member of India Against Corruption. He was caught spying red-handed and was thrown out. I am questioning the media, which is portraying that AAP toot-phoot rahi hai (AAP is disintegrating.) Can anyone from the media name five influential leaders who quit the party? I am throwing an open challenge to all mediapersons. The picture that the media is painting is that AAP mein bhagdad machi hai... leaders are flocking away from the party. 
	 
	 

	The Narendra Modi government has just completed six months. What is your take on his stint in power so far? 
	 

	He speaks very well. When he talks, it seems things are going to change. But when it comes to implementation, not even a single inch has moved. Delhi is just under Modi’s nose. In the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), you have to pay bribe to get your work done. Like I said earlier, you can’t get even a driving license without kickback. 
	 
	 

	Modi started the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan with great fanfare. It was a good initiative which we too supported. But his own party leaders were caught committing fraud in the name of safai. Has he taken any action against them? No. Has he taken any action against the councillors who are not doing their job? No. So, when it comes to delivery, not a single inch has moved forward. 
	 
	 

	How do you view the Modi government’s efforts with regard to bringing back the <keyword id="6356023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Black-Money">black money</keyword> stashed abroad? 
	 

	During his election campaign, Modi used to say that there is so much black money that if it comes to the country, every person would get Rs 15-20 lakh. In a stark contradiction to that, when he talks about black money in his ‘Man Ki Baat’ programme, he says that he has no idea how much black money is there. Then why was he lying about giving Rs 15-20 lakh to every person? This is the biggest lie. Or maybe he is lying now under the pressure of black money owners. Either he was lying before the election or he is lying now. Both of his statements cannot be true. 
	 
	 

	How much impact will Modi’s personality cult have on Assembly elections in Delhi? 
	 

	Of course, personality cult is a fact. But ultimately, what runs the life of people is governance. A person may speak well or look very good, but he needs to deliver too. 
	 
	 

	In Maharashtra and Haryana, if the BJP did not have any face, its opposition had corrupt faces… most hated, most rejected faces. The situation is same in Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir. But this is not so in Delhi. Here, there is a face and people have an alternative to the BJP.

Being a founder exposes you to issues that a startup faces, he believes. “You relate to the founder challenges a bit better. If you have built a deep technology product, it also becomes easy to appreciate their technology as well as value addition,” said Singhal. However, that’s not the only thing that can turn a founder into an investor. Mukul Arora of SAIF Partners believes that along with the unique perspective of running a business, a founder-turned-investor must bring more to the table. “That is 20% of what is needed to be an investor, so if founders come in with a mindset that there is an 80% left for which I will have to unlearn and relearn, they can become good investors. Just being a founder is not sufficient, you have to be hardworking and hungry to learn a lot,” said Arora. He added that while in the US there have been many such examples, the Indian startup ecosystem is not yet mature. Being a founder, one also tends to have the habit of creating new products. A VC enables products and not creates them. That is an understanding a founder needs to have before turning into a VC, adds Singhal. “Founders can have strong viewpoints but as an investor it’s also important to have flexibility,” said Singhal.

Legendary Indian long jumper <keyword id="8989" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anju-Bobby-George" source="Orion">Anju Bobby George</keyword> has been bestowed with the Woman of the Year Award by <keyword id="671913" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="world-athletics" source="Orion">World Athletics</keyword> for grooming talent in the country and advocating gender equality. The 44-year-old Anju, the only Indian to have won a medal in the <keyword id="6398240" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="World-Championships" source="Orion">World Championships</keyword> with a long jump bronze in the 2003 edition, was named for the award in the world body's annual awards night held virtually on Wednesday. The award is given to recognise a woman who has dedicated her life to the sport of athletics. Anju is the second recipient of the prestigious award, which was started in 2019, after Ethiopia's double Olympic champion Derartu Tulu. Sprint legend PT Usha was honoured by the world athletics body with the Veteran Pin in 2019, in recognition of her contribution to the growth of sport. From 2014 to 2018, a similar honour called 'Women in Athletics Award', which recognised outstanding achievements and contributions made to develop, encouraged and strengthened the participation of women and girls at all levels of the sport, was given. "The former international long jump star from India is still actively involved in the sport. In 2016 she opened a training academy for young girls, which has already helped to produce a world U20 medallist," World Athletics said in a release. "A constant voice for gender equality in her role as Senior Vice President of the Indian Athletics Federation, Bobby George also mentors schoolgirls for future leadership positions within the sport." One of India's most illustrious track and field athletes, Anju said she was "truly humbled and honoured to be awarded Woman of the Year by World Athletics". "There is no better feeling than to wake up everyday and give back to the sport, allowing it to enable and empower young girls! Thank you for recognising my efforts," she tweeted. World Athletics added that her efforts in advancing the sport in India as well as inspiring more women to follow in her footsteps make her "more than a worthy recipient" of this year's award. "I am really, really happy to learn that this year's Woman of the Year Award is considering my name. As an athlete it was a hard journey but I still believe I could reach the level which I deserve. And now it's my turn to give back to our sport," Anju said in a video uploaded on Twitter by World Athletics. "I am serving as senior vice-president of Indian athletic federation (AFI) and my academy, Anju Bobby George Foundation, is nurturing 13 women athletes -- small kids -- and within a short span of three years they will all have already started their journey to the world stage. Indian legend Anju Bobby George wins Woman of the Year Award from World Athletics

<keyword id="260213" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Arvind-Kejriwal">Arvind Kejriwal</keyword> is a <keyword id="2822177" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="shrewder-politician">shrewder politician</keyword> than many within the political brass would want to credit him with. If most of you are asking why, then the next question alone will answer all your doubts. How many people today are actually talking/discussing/debating the major rift in the <keyword id="6354944" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Aam-Aadmi-Party">Aam Aadmi Party</keyword> and Kejriwal’s so-called Hitler-like attitude in ousting two stalwarts of the party, <keyword id="342262" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Yogendra-Yadav">Yogendra Yadav</keyword> and <keyword id="6368850" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Prashant-Bhushan">Prashant Bhushan</keyword>? Exactly, none! This point alone was disrupting everything that <keyword id="6356115" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> was trying to achieve politically and within the delhi government. 
 Now think about this. What was Kejriwal’s rationale of holding a <keyword id="48857" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Farmer">farmer</keyword> rally to protest the Land Acquisition Bill on a day when Prashant Bhushan was tearing into the party’s ‘high moral’ standards and dissecting the very basis on which AAP stands? Even as Kejriwal was readying for a ‘farmer’ rally, sans its ‘face of the farmers’ Yogendra Yadav, Prashant Bhushan was dropping one scandalous bomb after another. 
 Sample this: Prashant Bhushan alleged that AAP leader <keyword id="1127624" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ashish-Khetan">Ashish Khetan</keyword> wrote ‘paid news’ in 2011 in favour of a company accused in the infamous 2G scam for Rs 2 cr. He alleged that Khetan was rewarded for his crony-capitalist behaviour by being appointed as the chairperson of the Delhi Dialogue Commission and a member of the NDC. Bhushan also accused AAP secretary and NDC member Pankaj Gupta of accepting ‘donation’ worth Rs 2 cr from shell companies without the required approval of the PAC. 
 Then there are allegations by Gajendra Singh’s brother yesterday that the farmer went to the rally only after speaking to <keyword id="6356176" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="deputy-chief-minister">deputy chief minister</keyword> Manish Sisodia. Vijendra Singh, Gajendra’s brother spoke to the media, post Gajendra’s last rites and said, “Gajendra had gone to meet Manish Sisodia after they won the elections. Even yesterday, when I spoke to him, he said that he is going to a rally. Manish Sisodia knew him. Manish Sisodia has called him for the rally.” He even went onto say that thought they have suffered crop damages this year due to untimely rains, it wasn't bad enough for his brother to have taken his own life. Gajendra's sister in a different interview told channels and showed the difference in Gajendra's 'actual' handwriting and the one that appeared on the 'suicide note' that Gajendra apparently had written. 
 So, even as allegations flow thick and fast, could this just be a propaganda push gone wrong, a tragic incident or a deliberate, nevertheless extremely shocking stunt planned to take the attention off AAP’s internal ‘mess’? This, even as Kejriwal gave ‘soundbytes’ to most television channels this morning apologising and saying ‘sorry’ for the thousandth time for a political miss-step that he so often seems to have committed. He said, “I admit it was a mistake continuing with the rally and my speech even as Gajendra committed suicide.” Really Mr Kejriwal! You mean to say this realization dawned on you a full three days after the incident, while you ignited fire upon fire against the central government and the <keyword id="6358992" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Delhi-Police">Delhi Police</keyword>, showcasing their inept attitude towards a <keyword id="166238" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="poor-farmer">poor farmer</keyword> who was trying to commit suicide in the full glare of several thousand people, which included you! 
 Well played indeed, because two things have happened in the political sphere as a result of Kejriwal’s actions. One, <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> and his government for the time being will have to put its ambitious land bill in the back burner (though it doesn’t make the slightest difference to AAP and its political mantras, and I am not even getting into the debate of whether the land bill is pro or against farmers). Modi, in fact has already sought suggestions from all political parties to better the ‘farmer’s lives’. Second, the entire nation’s media and its citizens are now focusing their energies away from ‘AAP’s internal ‘dramatics’ and actually getting down to discussing the serious issues of the plight of the farmers and their future in a nation where they form over 67% of the population. 
 
However, what Kejriwal will need to do now is think very seriously over how many times he can ‘use’ the ‘sorry tactic’ to score a political point to his advantage. Because, Mr Kejriwal, it is this very public that you have been enticing with the shortcomings of the other governments that will turn around and ask you about where you fell short. Because if the public is ‘accepting’, it is also very ‘unforgiving’ if you take it for a ride! Now, you of all people would surely understand that very well, won’t you?

The discovery could prefigure a new standard of testing that allows for early detection of lead exposure. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>In their study, the researchers discovered lead levels that were consistent with concentrations found in the soil by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control. After testing more than 117,000 soil samples from nearly 8,000 properties, the department found average lead levels of 190 parts per million (ppm), or double the state's health threshold. Though the EPA's limit is higher (400 ppm), three dozen properties near the plant have been found to contain <a href="https://www.latimes.com/local/california/la-me-ln-dangerous-lead-levels-20160714-snap-story.html">levels above 1,000 ppm</a>, which qualifies their soil as hazardous waste. One property even contained a lead level of around 8,400 ppm, or more than 100 times the state limit. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"></div></div></div>The new study from USC and Mount Sinai demonstrates the persistent danger of contamination more than four years after <a href="http://graphics.latimes.com/exide-battery-plant/">the plant officially closed</a>. By examining layers of baby teeth, the researchers were able to determine when children were exposed. Their data showed that some children were contaminated before they were born, when their mothers were in their second or third trimester. Others were contaminated in their first year of life. Once a person has been <a href="https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/lead/acclpp/blood_lead_levels.htm">exposed to lead</a>, the health effects are irreversible. In Vernon, there's still a possibility that kids are coming into contact with lead in the air and soil. Though California has agreed to clean up the area's most polluted homes (around 2,500 properties), others aren't scheduled for remediation.
