The UK-based group also accorded two stars to <keyword id="21402083" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Honda-Amaze" source="keywords">Honda Amaze</keyword> for adult and zero stars for child occupant safety. It also gave three stars in adult safety and five stars for child occupants to <keyword id="20774736" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kia-Carens" source="keywords">Kia Carens</keyword> after the latest round of crash tests. The highest score on a vehicle crash test is five stars, while the lowest score is zero stars. "We were disappointed to see Mahindra's one star rating for the Bolero Neo. This falls well below the safety performance we have come to expect from the manufacturer," Global NCAP Secretary General Alejandro Furas said in a statement. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra said the company is committed to deliver vehicles that ensure the safety and satisfaction of customers and users. Bolero Neo has always complied with safety regulations that have been introduced over time and continues to be fully compliant with the latest Indian safety standards, it said. "As we are constantly innovating and improving our vehicles to exceed safety regulations, we want to assure our customers and stakeholders that Mahindra has significantly enhanced safety features in all our recent launches," the auto major stated. Models like Thar, XUV700, XUV300, and Scorpio-N have been recognised with high safety ratings of 4- and 5-star by the Global NCAP, reflecting the company's ongoing commitment to safety. Furas said there has been an improvement in Kia's rating for the Carens since its original test when the model scored a zero rating for adult occupant protection. "However, we were expecting a better performance in the retest given the Carens is fitted with six airbags as standard," he added. On Honda Amaze, Furas stated: "Regrettably Honda did not take the opportunity to update the Amaze with more safety features which explains its disappointing score." Commenting on the development, Honda Cars India said the South Africa spec second generation Amaze has already been tested as four star by GNCAP in 2019. "The latest test basis new protocol shows that the total score is of five-star level. "However, mainly due to the requirement of certain equipment like electronic stability control and side curtain airbags, it resulted in lower rating," the automaker said in a statement. <ul><li>Indian car manufacturer <keyword id="6357096" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahindra-Mahindra">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword> announced that the price of its vehicles would go up by ₹36,000 from July 1. </li><li>The price hike by companies is being attributed to the new safety norms and the BS VI norms followed by the Indian government. </li><li>However, car sales continue to see a decline in India.</li></ul>In India, car sales have been sliding with almost every other automobile giant reporting a decline in sales in the past few months. However, if you thought that would make cars cheaper, well, think again. Car prices are only rising, thanks to the new safety norms which have been made mandatory. Automaker Mahindra &amp; Mahindra announced on Wednesday that it would be raising the prices of its personal vehicles by up to ₹36,000 across models from July 1. But the company is not alone. Maruti Suzuki had already declared a price hike for its new Swift and WagonR. Others like Honda and Tata Motors too have indicated the same. “Mahindra SUVs that will take a substantial price increase are the Scorpio, Bolero, TUV300 and KUV100 NXT, while brands such as the XUV500 and Marazzo will increase prices marginally,” Mahindra said in its filing as reported by IANS. The Indian government had announced the Bharat Stage VI norms for emission regulation. The norms will be adopted by April 2020, however companies had said that the adoption will result in a price-hike. According to <a href="https://www.financialexpress.com/industry/bs-vi-norms-car-prices-to-surge-sharply/1423128/">reports</a>, complying to the norms meant a 10% price hike for cars. Car sales are woefully slow in India but prices are rising due to new green norms

MUMBAI: <keyword id="45224" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mahindra">Mahindra</keyword> &amp; Mahindra is lining up three major offerings in the compact sport-utility-vehicle segment for launch over the next 18-24 months, as it aims to reclaim space lost to the Ford EcoSport and <keyword id="43777" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Renault">Renault</keyword> Duster over the past couple of years. 
 All the three vehicles will be less than four metres long, a segment that industry experts say is going to be a key driver of passenger vehicle sales and where <keyword id="46869" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="MM">M&amp;M</keyword> has only a limited presence. Mahindra is still the local leader in utility vehicle sales, but its market share has fallen to 42% at the end of the fiscal year through March 2014 from more than 55% two years earlier. 
 
Renault meanwhile has grabbed about 9% of the market with the Duster, and Ford captured 8.68% with its sub-4-metre EcoSport. M&amp;M’s first compact SUV, the Quanto that failed to sustain the initial excitement, is getting ready for a major midlife facelift, said people with knowledge of the matter. 
 
The project, codenamed U215, includes major design changes which are currently being worked on at M&amp;M’s design centre in Italy. The U215 will be positioned between the other two vehicles in the pipeline — M&amp;M's first micro-SUV, dubbed S101, which will create a new entry point for the company and be pitted as an alternative to premium hatchbacks, and the probable Bolero replacement, codenamed U301. 
 
The U301 may co-exist with the Bolero, a vehicle that still has acceptance in the hinterlands. M&amp;M intends to do a Maruti in the compact SUV space, offering an alternative at every Rs 50,000-75,000 price points over the entry-level vehicle, a person close to the company told ETon condition of anonymity. 
"All three sub-4 metre SUVs will have different characteristics catering to different segment of buyers. Design will be the key differentiator. The S101 compact SUV has a car-like appearance whereas the U215, the new Quanto, will assume a more rugged appearance than the boxy stance it had when launched," this person said. 
 
According to him, the U301 will have the boldest features with a “Jeep Wrangler-like appearance”. An M&amp;M spokesman said the company cannot comment on specific product plans. 
 
"As a general rule, we constantly work on refreshing all our products," he said. The MPV/SUV segment, which makes up for 22%-23% of the overall Indian passenger vehicle sales, is expected to grow in coming years. Industry experts say, the compact SUV market is expected to grow five times to make up almost half a million vehicle at the end of the decade and that the sub-4-meter space is expected to make up for a sizeable share of that. M&amp;M has a strong band of loyal buyers and larger penetration in rural areas, but developing a sub-4-meter vehicle is extremely critical for it to regain its lost market share, said Gaurav Vangaal, senior analyst, forecasting, at consultancy firm IHS Automotive. 
 
The urban sub-compact SUV segment, which did not exist a few years back, is expected to make up for a sizable 20-25% of compact UV space going ahead, he said. "M&amp;M is there with its Quanto, but not with a proper sub-4-metre SUV, so it needs to prepare itself aggressively with more UVs in that space to protect its turf." 
 Pawan Goenka, president and executive director at Mahindra, has admitted in the past that the company wasn't quick enough to react to the compact SUV wave and that its answer to compact utility-vehicle space has been a year or two late. It seems the lineup of compact SUVs planned by the company is to not just take on existing rivals, but also react proactively to ensuing competition from the likes of Maruti <keyword id="6911" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="suzuki">Suzuki</keyword> and the local units of <keyword id="70910" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hyundai-motor">Hyundai Motor</keyword> and <keyword id="72707" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Honda-Motor">Honda Motor</keyword>, who too have lined up sub-4-meter SUVs for launch in the coming two-three years.

The person close to the company said the face-lifted Quanto will in fact be an interim model for M&amp;M and has a potential of 24,000 units a year, before an all-new Quanto, now dubbed U321, hits the market in 2017. 
 
The U321 is currently getting developed in the US and it will be a versatile platform that can deliver multiple products, from sub-4-metre to bigger 7-seat utility vehicles. 
 
While M&amp;M has seen its bread-andbutter utility vehicles Scorpio and Bolero as well as the XUV 500 selling in healthy numbers, its 'U platform' vehicles – the Quanto, Xylo and Genio – have been a major drag for it. It does not quite end there for M&amp;M. Its R&amp;D centres in India, the US and Italy are buzzing with projects. A face-lifted Scorpio and XUV should hit the market shortly. 
 
It plans to revamp lifestyle offroader Thar, which now gets an underpinning of the U platform, a departure from the legendary MM540 base due to upcoming safety regulations. And, pickup truck Genio will be significantly enhanced in its upcoming facelift to take more abuses, which is very common in the Indian market.

M&M Lines Up Compact SUVs To Take On Ford EcoSport And Renault Duster

Outperforming other commercial vehicle segments in the country, the small commercial vehicle (SCV) industry in India witnessed a sale of 4,32,000 units, contributing a whopping 60% to the overall commercial vehicle industry in 2014. 
	 

	According to a study by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, a global consultancy firm, in the next six years the segment is pegged to grow at 13% CAGR till FY 2020, thus constituting 80% of the total commercial vehicle industry in India. 
	 

	“OEMs in the SCV segment need to focus on creating the demand for SCVs by developing newer applications. They also need to understand their customers’ needs and liaise with government authorities in order to further promote SCV Passengers” said Dr. Wilfried Aulbur, managing partner at Roland Berger Strategy Consultants India. 
	 

	The Fair Game 
	 

	Currently, SCV segment is the fastest growing segment in the industry. The segment that came into existence in 2005 in India substantially grew at 30% CAGR in 2010-2012 but registered 1% decline in the last two years. It should be noted that the commercial vehicle industry shrunk by 11% CAGR due to economic downturn in the country. 
	 

	In the SCV segment, SCV Cargo vehicles category continues to remain the biggest segment and will account for over 80% of the total market in the next six years. The large pick-ups with a capacity of 2-3.5 ton constitute 54% of the SCV Cargo segment and have been growing rapidly. 
	 

	However, the passenger vehicle segment in SCV has been facing tough competition from three wheelers. “It faces tough competition from 3 wheelers that account for more than 85% of the passenger segment. Also, competition from Multi Purpose Vehicles (MPVs) and Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) for customers looking for comfort whereas soft top vehicles are more in demand for shared taxi applications. Over the last year, the segment has suffered extremely high delinquency rates,” stated the report. 
	 

	The Big Boys Tata Motors and Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (<keyword id="46869" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="MM">M&amp;M</keyword>) dominate the SCV category. While Tata Motors is the market leader through its sub 2T truck category and the SCV Passenger vehicles, <keyword id="46425" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anand-Mahindra">Anand Mahindra</keyword>’s M&amp;M is expected to dominate the 2-3.5 ton category because of its stronghold in the pick-up segment. “Tata reinforced its dominance in the &lt;2T (less than 2 ton) category by creating the Zip segment positioned between ACE ((Tata’s mini truck) and the three wheelers segment. On the other hand, M&amp;M has also managed to attract ACE customers to higher tonnage Bolero Maxi Truck. <keyword id="6357085" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ashok-Leyland">Ashok Leyland</keyword> is one of the late entrants but has been successful with Dost cornering 14% market share in the 2-3.5 Ton category”, the study revealed. In the 3 wheeler cargo segment, Piaggio continues to be the market leader with a market share of 52%. 
	 

	The Road Ahead 
	 

	According to the report, the SCV industry is expected to reach over 9 lakh units (in the next six years) growing at a CAGR of 13% over the next 6 years. The segment is expected to get back on the growth trajectory in the current fiscal year’s third quarter. 

	 
	Most of the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have considerable investment plans for India. Isuzu India, a leading global OEM in India plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore in its upcoming plant in Andhra Pradesh, which has a capacity of churning out 1 lakh units annually. Ashok Leyland and Nissan joint venture has made an investment of Rs 2,500 crore out of which 50% has already been spent. The plant is expected to have a capacity of 1.5 lakh units. 

	 
	Similarly, Tata Motors has an overall investment target of Rs 1,500 crore for the current fiscal year. The investment is being made for new product development and not additional capacity. M&amp;M too will invest Rs 250 crore in its AP plant for its SCV and passenger vehicle segments. Eicher in a joint venture with Polaris India is also expected to make a similar investment for its own SCV models. 
	 

	The question however is: will these investments bring in returns? They definitely would, if manufacturers would offer exclusive and unique experience to the consumers. 
	 
	In Aulbur’s words, “The future of the SCV segment depends significantly on the rise of unique applications of the vehicles. The OEMs could augment the current demand by continuously developing newer applications and educating the customers on the benefits of using SCVs. New applications are being developed to expand the market prompting newer customers to buy SCVs. Poultry, milk and water distribution industries are some of the new applications that have been witnessed over the last few years.”

Her actor husband <keyword id="19914931" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dharmendra" source="keywords">Dharmendra</keyword> has total assets of Rs 26,52,32,266 but liability of Rs 6,49,67,402 thus making his assets worth Rs 20,02,64,864. As per the affidavit, Hema Malini, 75, has no criminal cases pending against her. She has declared acting as her profession like her husband <keyword id="20792548" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dharmendra-deol" source="keywords">Dharmendra Deol</keyword>. Hema Malini presently owns total wealth, including bungalows, cars, jewellery, cash, shares and term deposits worth over Rs 141 crore, while five years ago, her total assets had been valued at around Rs 114 crore. She has disclosed acting as her profession, rent and income through interest as sources of income while acting, pension and interest are detailed as source of her husband's income. As per the affidavit, she has an honorary Ph.D from Sir Padampat Singhania University at Udaipur in 2012. She has Rs 13,52,865 cash while her husband Dharmendra Deol has Rs 43,19,016 cash in hand. Besides, a bank account in her name has Rs 99,93,177 and her husband has Rs 3,52,99,371 in his bank account. Her investments in companies, bonds, debentures, mutual funds and others are of Rs 2,57,92,886 while her husband Dharmendra has an investment of Rs 4,55,14,871. Hema Malini owns vehicles worth Rs 61,53,816 which include Mercedez Benz, AL-CAZAR, Maruti EECO etc and her husband has vehicles including Range Rover, Mahindra Bolero besides a motorbike. She has gold, silver, diamond and precious stones worth Rs 3,39,39,307 while Dharmendra owns gold worth Rs 1,07,48,200. Besides this, Hema Malini has other assets of Rs 8,96,256 and Dharmendra worth Rs 29,53,518.
