One of Asia's life insurance giants, <keyword id="6368369" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="life-insurance-corporation-of-india">Life Insurance Corporation of India</keyword> (<keyword id="6367143" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="LIC">LIC</keyword>) closed <keyword id="1553646" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="last-fiscal">last fiscal</keyword> with a new <keyword id="1755643" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="business-premium">business premium</keyword> or first year premium of ₹1.84 trillion, the company said. The insurer also paid ₹1.34 trillion as claims last fiscal. According to LIC, it earned a new business or first year premium of about ₹1.84 trillion last fiscal up from about ₹1.77 trillion earned the previous year. LIC said that it had earned about ₹564 billion of fresh premium or new business premium last fiscal selling about 2.10 crore policies commanding a market share of 66.18 per cent. The insurer earned about ₹1.27 trillion under pension and group insurance schemes last year. However, LIC is silent on the <keyword id="11132365" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="total-premium">total premium</keyword> earned - new business plus renewal premium- for last year. Last year LIC added 345,469 agents, taking the total to about 13.53 lakh agents. On the claims front, last year LIC paid out about ₹1.34 trillion. The company settled about 2.19 crore maturity claims, money back policy claims and annuities, amounting to about ₹1.16 trillion. LIC also settled about 9.59 lakh death claims amounting to about ₹181 billion. Annuity payments due in March 2021 have also been settled on due dates. India's largest insurer LIC says it earned new business premium worth ₹1.84 trillion last year

A good number of <keyword id="8764262" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid">Covid</keyword> survivors will opt for life insurance in the country, said <keyword id="323997" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vibha-Padalkar">Vibha Padalkar</keyword>, MD and <keyword id="5645" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CEO">CEO</keyword> of <keyword id="472962" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="HDFC-Life">HDFC Life</keyword> Insurance Company Ltd, while announcing the company's Q4 results on Monday. Padalkar told the media that Covid-19 survivors are now coming for life insurance, more so post the raging second wave of the pandemic. The Covid situation has led to higher awareness around the need for protection and the inadequacy of the current insurance coverage, she said. Padalkar said the company has provided ₹165 crore as Covid reserve for <keyword id="5027223" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="FY22">FY22</keyword> based on the actual experience in FY21 after factoring in aspects such as latest mortality trends across businesses and customer segments and the geographic spread of Covid 2.0. HDFC Life closed the <keyword id="1553646" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="last-fiscal">last fiscal</keyword> with an after tax profit of ₹1,360 crore, up from ₹1,295 crore logged in FY20. Last fiscal, the company earned a total premium of about ₹38,583 crore, up from about ₹32,707 crore earned in FY20. She said despite logistical challenges through the year, the company had insured close to 40 million lives in FY21. The company sold about 9.8 lakh new individual policies, registering a year-on-year growth of 10 per cent. On the claims front, Padalkar said over 2.9 lakh death claims were settled during last fiscal with a pay out of over ₹3,000 crore. According to her, given the resurgence of Covid and the looming uncertainty around economic and market momentum, the company will continue to maintain a cautiously optimistic stance for FY22 and evaluate its approach dynamically. The company board has recommended final dividend of ₹2.02 per equity share of face value of ₹10 each for the year 2020-21. PM Modi's goal of reducing dependence on oil imports by 2022 will be the major driving factor for the government’s expenditure in the coming two years. Collectively, 11 state-owned companies have spent more than one trillion rupees ($16 billion) in last fiscal. This spending of a near three-year high will be sustained by India's state-owned oil companies, thanks to falling oil-services costs and expanding demand for oil. <keyword id="6354412" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="indian-oil">Indian Oil</keyword>, India’s largest oil refiner will increase domestic spending by 25% this fiscal, while <keyword id="6374014" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Hindustan-Petroleum">Hindustan Petroleum</keyword> aims to invest about 17% more. Oil and Natural Gas Corp., the biggest explorer and top spender in the country, has no plans to up its investment this year, keeping it same as last year. "Spending by Indian oil companies has further upside over the coming years because of opportunities at home and abroad," said Abhishek Kumar, senior energy analyst at Interfax Energy's Global Gas Analytics in London. "Low services costs make spending more attractive now." State-run oil firms spent one trillion rupees last fiscal

New Delhi, Apr 3 () State-owned National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) on Friday said it has sold record 57 lakh tonnes of fertilisers during the last fiscal year. In a regulatory filing, NFL informed that it has "registered the highest-ever fertiliser sales in 2019-20, fifth time in a row." NFL has recorded total fertiliser sale of more than 57 tonnes of all products, beating its previous best of 48.95 lakh tonnes achieved during 2018-19. "With this, the company achieved a sales growth of 16.2 per cent over the previous year," the filing said. The sustained sales growth of NFL has helped in retaining its position of second highest marketer of fertilisers in the country, it added. NFL said it has dispatched more than 21 lakh tonnes of imported fertilisers including 12 lakh tonnes of urea on government account during 2019-20. MJH ANSANS

Among other things, they'll have to address the <keyword id="648838" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="debt-ceiling">debt ceiling</keyword> as well as the expiring continuing resolution, which threatens to shutdown parts of the government after September 30.
This is all stuff that Americans have dealt with before. And to a certain extent, we've all been calloused by fiscal brinksmanship.
"So far, investors have been complacent about the risks posed by the looming budget fight," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/roubini-republican-jihad-on-spending-2013-9">said Nouriel Roubini</a>. "They believe that - as in the past - the fiscal showdown will end with a midnight compromise that avoids both default and a government shutdown."
"But investors seem to underestimate how dysfunctional US national politics has become," he warned. "With a majority of the Republican Party on a jihad against government spending, fiscal explosions this autumn cannot be ruled out."
So how should investors think about the coming debt limit and spending debate?
Perhaps we should consider what happened in the recent past.
Goldman Sachs economist Alec Phillips wrote about this in an August 16 note to clients:
Will Markets React After So Many False Alarms? Since it is likely that the upcoming fiscal issues will be resolved at the last minute, it would be natural for some market participants to become more concerned as the dates approach. That said, after several rounds of fiscal brinkmanship over the last few years, markets may be somewhat desensitized to the headlines, at least until shortly before the deadline.
Not all fiscal showdowns are alike, and the potential market reaction depends on what is at stake. The debt limit debate in 2011 may have had the broadest effect, since the debt limit itself posed an immediate risk to the financial system, while the fiscal reforms being negotiated alongside the debt limit would affect the fiscal stance, sectors dependent on federal spending, and economic growth more broadly. For this reason (as well as unrelated factors, such as deterioration in the Euro Area around the same time) significant effects were seen in confidence, interest rates, and equities, among other measures.
By contrast, a government shutdown would have much more limited consequences and thus should also have much more limited market effects. Exhibit 5 shows equity volatility, the change in 10-year Treasury yields, and the change in a basket of equities with exposure to government revenues constructed by our colleagues in equity research. We would be surprised to see the perceived risk of a government shutdown-which we view as unlikely in any case-weigh on market sentiment, but it is possible that the debt limit could result in short-lived volatility around the deadline.
Like the title says: "Not all fiscal deadlines are created equal."

State-run insurance major <keyword id="6368369" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="life-insurance-corporation-of-india" source="Orion">Life Insurance Corporation of India</keyword> (<keyword id="6367143" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="lic" source="Orion">LIC</keyword>) reported a consolidated <keyword id="6431508" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="net-profit" source="Orion">net profit</keyword> of Rs 2,409 crore during Q4FY22, down 17 per cent year on year from the same quarter of previous fiscal. The insurance company's consolidated income from net premium income during the quarter rose nearly 18 per cent to Rs 144,158 lakh crore, the earnings report shared with the exchanges showed. This is the first earnings results reported by the company after it went public on the exchanges earlier this month. It has recommended a dividend of Rs 1.5 per equity share for FY22, which is subject to approval of shareholders in the annual general meeting, the filing said. The shares of the much-awaited LIC made a weak listing on the stock exchanges on May 17. It listed on the stock exchanges at a discount of 8.62 per cent at Rs 867, from its IPO issue price of Rs 949. On Monday closing, it traded at Rs 836. The initial public offering of the company had, however, received robust response from investors as the insurance major's offer has been subscribed 2.89 times. It received bids for 46.77 crore equity shares against IPO size of 16.2 crore equity shares. The portion set aside for policyholders had been subscribed 5.97 times, employees bid 4.31 times the allotted quota, and retail investors 1.94 times, while the reserved portion of qualified institutional buyers had booked 2.83 times and that of non-institutional investors 2.8 times. The government had brought down the issue size from 5 per cent to 3.5 per cent. The <keyword id="14069986" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPO-valued-LIC" source="Orion">IPO valued LIC</keyword> at Rs 6 lakh crore. To attract a large number of investors, the policyholders were offered a Rs 60 discount, while for retail investors, the discount was at Rs 45.

LIC  reports  a 17% decline in the net profits as compared to same quarter in the last fiscal

New Delhi, Dec 4 () The government has collected Rs 2.03 lakh crore in revenue from state-owned Coal India in the last six financial years, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.
Of the total revenue received, the maximum of Rs 44,826.43 crore was mopped up in 2018-19. 
"The government has collected Rs 2,03,221.12 crore in revenue from Coal India in the last six years beginning from financial year 2013-14 up to the last fiscal 2018-19," Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
In 2017-18, the revenue stood at Rs 44,046.57 crore while in the preceding fiscal, it was Rs 44,068.28 crore, the minister said.
In 2015-16, the government collected Rs 29,084.11 crore in revenue from the PSU whereas in the preceding fiscal, the figure stood at Rs 21,482.21 crore.
In 2013-14, the revenue was at Rs 19,713.52 crore, he said.
The minister also informed the House that the consolidated state-wise coal production from the functional coal mines from 2013-14 to 2018-19 remained at 3,876.16 million tonne.
In 2018-19, it was highest at 728.718 MT.
Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jammu &amp; Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Odisha, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal are the coal producing states, he said. SID SID ANU

Domestic airlines industry expected to fly back into profitability next fiscal: Crisil

Realty firm <keyword id="368714" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="prestige-estates" source="Orion">Prestige Estates</keyword> on Wednesday said its sales bookings rose by 25 per cent to a record ₹12,930.9 crore in the last fiscal year on strong housing demand. In a regulatory filing, the Bengaluru-based firm said, "During the fiscal year FY23, the group registered record-breaking highest sales of ₹12,930.9 crore (up by 25 per cent year-on-year) and highest ever collections of ₹9,805.5 crore (up by 31 per cent y-o-y)." Sales bookings stood at 15.09 million square feet with an average realization of ₹8,812 per sq ft (up by 17 per cent year-on-year) for apartments/ villas/ commercial sales and an average realization of ₹4,124 per square feet (down 2 per cent y-o-y) for plot sales. The group sold more than 9,600 homes in FY23 spanning over 15 million square feet area. During the last fiscal, the new launches totalled 26.38 million square feet up by 57 per cent annually. The total completions during the last fiscal year stood at 15.68 million square feet, up by 10 per cent year-on-year. During the fourth quarter of the last fiscal, <keyword id="36786" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prestige" source="Orion">Prestige</keyword> Estates registered sales of ₹3,888.8 crore, up 19 per cent year-on-year and the highest-ever quarterly collections of ₹2,763.3 crore, up by 12 per cent year-on-year. Prestige Estates clocks record sales bookings of ₹12,930 crore in FY23, up 25% annually

Passenger vehicle exports from <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> rose 15 per cent in FY23 with Maruti Suzuki India leading the segment with dispatches of over 2.5 lakh units, as per the latest data by industry body SIAM. The total passenger vehicle (PV) exports stood at 6,62,891 units in 2022-23 fiscal as compared to 5,77,875 units in 2021-22. Passenger car shipments saw a 10 per cent growth at 4,13,787 units, while utility vehicle exports rose 23 per cent at 2,47,493 units during the last fiscal, the data by the <keyword id="1577311" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="society-of-indian-automobile" source="Orion">Society of Indian Automobile</keyword> Manufacturers (SIAM) showed. Exports of vans, however, declined to 1,611 units last fiscal, from 1,853 units in the 2021-22 fiscal year. Maruti Suzuki India (<keyword id="6392170" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="msi" source="Orion">MSI</keyword>) led the exports last fiscal in the passenger vehicle segment. It was followed by Hyundai Motor India and Kia India. MSI, the country's largest carmaker, exported 2,55,439 PVs last fiscal, an 8 per cent increase as compared to 2,35,670 units in the 2020-21 fiscal year. The carmaker exports to various markets, including Latin America, ASEAN, Africa, the Middle East and neighbouring regions. Hyundai Motor India's overseas dispatches stood at 1,53,019 units last fiscal, up 18 per cent from 1,29,260 units in 2021-22.
