Assuring the business leaders of India's deep commitment to the protection of intellectual property and to fostering tech innovation, Modi highlighted the economic transformation happening in the country, particularly in electronics and information technology manufacturing and semiconductors. It includes Rs 3,679 crore in subsidies and demand incentives for e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks, and other emerging electric vehicles. It is expected to support the deployment of 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses, providing a significant push to India's EV ecosystem. A critical aspect of the scheme is the introduction of e-vouchers for EV buyers. At the time of purchase, an Aadhaar-authenticated e-voucher will be generated, which will enable buyers to avail of demand incentives. Additionally, the scheme allocates Rs 500 crore for the deployment of e-ambulances, marking a new initiative to integrate electric vehicles into essential public services. Another Rs 4,391 crore has been earmarked for the procurement of 14,028 e-buses, with a demand aggregation process led by CESL in nine major cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Intercity and interstate e-buses will also be supported in consultation with states. Furthermore, Rs 500 crore has been set aside to incentivize the adoption of e-trucks, a critical move given that trucks are one of the largest contributors to air pollution. The scheme encourages those with a scrapping certificate from <keyword id="19897457" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-road-transport" source="keywords">Ministry of Road Transport</keyword> and Highways-approved (MoRTH) vehicle scrapping centres to participate in this transition. With an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore, the scheme will support the installation of 22,100 fast chargers for four-wheelers, 1,800 fast chargers for e-buses, and 48,400 fast chargers for two- and three-wheelers. South Korea is going big on American manufacturing. The Battery Belt could benefit the most.

The iPhone contract manufacturer's Singapore-based arm Foxconn Singapore Pte has bought over 120.35 crore stocks of Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development Pvt Ltd at Rs 10 per share on August 21. The <keyword id="19896017" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka" source="keywords">Karnataka</keyword> government in a statement last week said Foxconn is planning to invest Rs 25,000 crore to establish a massive manufacturing <keyword id="20102134" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="plant" source="keywords">plant</keyword> near Dodda Ballapur that will create 40,000 jobs. "The unit in Karnataka will soon become the second-largest Foxconn plant after China's unit. Foxconn infuses ₹1,200 crore in Karnataka unit

In its largest annual report, the firm said it is targeting to commission the first train of 20GW solar PV (photovoltaic) <keyword id="19914449" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing" source="keywords">manufacturing</keyword> by the end of 2024-25 fiscal (April 2024 to March 2025) and scale up to 20GW in a phased manner over 2026. The solar giga factory will include manufacturing of <keyword id="22746599" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="PV-modules" source="keywords">PV modules</keyword>, cells, wafers and ingots, polysilicon, and glass at a single location. The modules convert sunlight into electricity. It is also targeting industrialising <keyword id="22746600" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sodium-ion-cell-production" source="keywords">sodium-ion cell production</keyword> at the MW level in 2025 and first 50 MWh a year <keyword id="22746602" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lithium-battery-cells" source="keywords">lithium battery cells</keyword> pilot in 2026. Reliance had in 2021 announced plans to invest USD 10 billion over three years to develop a new fuels business based on 100 GW of renewable power capacity by 2030. The plan involves setting up four giga factories for manufacturing renewables equipment, battery storage, fuel cells and hydrogen at Jamnagar in Gujarat. "We have made significant progress in establishing factories that will be part of our Integrated Solar PV Manufacturing," the firm said in the annual report. "New Energy will be commissioning its first train of Module and Cell Manufacturing in FY25." Solar panels manufactured in Jamnagar have obtained BIS certification. "Parallelly, work on <keyword id="19895602" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="renewable-energy" source="keywords" topicspecial.url="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/small-biz/renewable-energy">renewable energy</keyword> development has commenced and Reliance has been allotted land in Gujarat," it said. "We aim to become the largest renewable energy (RE) developer in India." Besides commissioning the first train of module and cell of 20GW of solar PV manufacturing, 2024-25 may also see industrialise sodium ion cell production at a MW level. Next year, PV factory is to be scaled to 20GW in a phased manner, and a battery giga factory starting with a 50 MWh a year lithium battery cells pilot set up. In FY27, it plans to establish a cell-to-pack manufacturing facility of 50 GWh and will set up 100 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. The 100GW target will propel the company into the front rank of renewables ambitions globally, joining the likes of Enel, Iberdrola and oil players TotalEnergies and BP in the scale of capacity additions envisaged. Reliance said fossil fuels have historically fed India's power requirements. "Structural inefficiencies combined with rising costs of fossil fuel has resulted in expensive power for commercial and residential customers - average tariff of Rs 10 per kWh (unit)." Therefore, it is not feasible for India to keep relying on fossil fuels for its growth, it said, adding the use of fossil fuels-based energy increases dependence on imports and results in drain of foreign exchange. "Stable and round-the-clock cost-efficient green power is the need of the hour. India needs to solve this problem to maintain its growth trajectory and reach USD 32 trillion GDP by 2047," it said. Reliance said over the next 12 months, its focus is to bring new energy manufacturing facilities on-stream, operate them efficiently and start developing renewable energy generation projects. "Simultaneously, we would develop the supply chain locally for self-sufficiency and reduce the reliance on imports," it said. The firm aims to partner leading global climate technology and product companies and develop a business model which is flexible and adaptable to different technologies and future proofed to be always lowest life cycle cost and best in class. Reliance has snapped up multiple partnerships in the clean energy space, such as solar and electric mobility, while pursuing its oil and petrochemical plans. Jamnagar, the world's biggest single-site integrated refinery complex, has two refineries -- one domestic-focused and a newer only for exports -- that together can process low-grade crude and switch between fuels depending on prices.

The billionaire gave YouTuber Tim Dodd, known by his channel moniker "Everyday Astronaut," a <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsuqSn7ifpU">tour</a> of the rocket's production facility in Cape Canaveral, Florida. Standing at over 320 feet tall, New Glenn is one of the largest rockets ever built, according to Blue Origin's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.blueorigin.com/new-glenn">website</a>. Only three other rockets have been built taller: <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/spacex-starship-flight-four-ocean-splashdown-elon-musk-plans-2024-6">SpaceX's Starship</a>, Saturn V, and the Russian N-1, which never successfully launched. "The scale of things in person is always surprising," Bezos said. "The first time you see a flight article or development article, it's always surprising." The factory tour was also an opportunity for Bezos to show off his nerdy side. The Amazon cofounder talked excitedly about the intricacies of the technology powering New Glenn. The rocket, which is set to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/blue-origin-new-shepard-delay-explainer-2024-5">fly for the first time later this year</a>, is a partially reusable heavy-lift launch vehicle designed to lift 45 metric tons to low-Earth orbit. By comparison, <keyword id="19905255" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="SpaceX" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="SpaceX" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="SpaceX">SpaceX</keyword>'s Falcon Heavy can lift <a href="https://www.spacex.com/vehicles/falcon-heavy/" target="_blank">nearly 64 metric tons</a> to orbit and is also partially reusable, and the company says Starship will be able to carry <a href="https://www.spacex.com/vehicles/starship/" target="_blank">150 metric tons</a> and is designed to be "a fully reusable transportation system." Bezos showed off New Glenn's Stage One, which is powered by seven BE-4 engines — powerful liquid oxygen and liquefied natural gas-fueled combustion engines. He also explained the welding process of the tanks. "This is a very high-performance way to build the tank," he said. "And especially because it's a reusable vehicle, you get to reuse all that high-performance." New Glenn is a two-stage rocket — following its launch, Stage One will separate from the Second Stage and autonomously descend back into a landing platform to be reused. Two BE-3U engines will then propel the Second Stage into space to deliver its payload. Bezos said the vehicle is designed to be turned around in 16 days and last for a minimum of 25 missions. "I'm hoping it will eventually be much more," Bezos said. "We'd like to get to at least a hundred." Bezos also talked about his past salvage mission in the Atlantic to recover Project Apollo's Saturn V engines, which powered the Apollo 11 to the moon. "I was sitting in my living room one day and I said, 'You know, I wonder if you could find those F1 engines from Apollo 11 sitting on the bottom of the Atlantic somewhere,'" Bezos said. "And I went to Google and I typed in Apollo 11 booster impact coordinates. And they popped up." "And so I thought, this is gonna be the easiest thing I've ever done, I'm gonna go recover those engines. Of course, that was the only part of it that was easy. It turned out to be incredibly hard." And reusability leads to affordability, which is Bezo's main goal. He said that although manufacturing techniques have been massively improved, most major aspects of rocketry were invented in the 1960s. "They haven't really changed, so our job today is not to do better than they did at spaceflight. It's to make it more affordable," he said. Bezos explained the company developed a reusable thermal protection system that doesn't need to be touched up, another aspect of the rocket's operable reusability. Viewers were also able to see the rocket's hydrogen-powered Upper Stage and its Aft Section, where the seven BE-4 engines are mounted in the base. Bezos additionally took Dodd to its forward section, which has four fins that are the "largest hydraulic actuators on a space aero surface" ever. "A good aerospace hardware does look like art because you're just going for function," Bezos said. "But there's something when you go for that last 1% of function, it really makes things beautiful." Bezos wasn't the first billionaire that YouTuber Tim Dodd landed a factory tour with — he's also <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-spacex-starfactory-tour-2024-6">interviewed Elon Musk</a> multiple times, recently touring SpaceX's new "Starfactory" where its Starship rocket is made.
