<ul class="summary-list"><li>Lamborghini is all sold out of gas-powered supercars, its CEO told the German outlet Welt. </li><li>The Italian brand is electrifying its entire lineup, starting with plug-in hybrids. </li></ul><p>The vision boards of finance bros around the world are in for an update. </p><p>Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann <a href="https://www.welt.de/wirtschaft/plus246213040/Lamborghinis-Verbrenner-sind-ausverkauft-fuer-immer.html?icid=search.product.onsitesearch">told the German newspaper Welt</a> on Wednesday that the brand has sold out its remaining production run of fully gas-powered models, per Reuters. </p><p>From here on out, all new Lambos sold will be electrified in some manner. First up will be plug-in hybrid replacements for the Aventador and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lamborghini-huracan-tecnica-supercar-review-2022-12">Huracan supercars</a> and a plug-in hybrid <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lamborghini-urus-review-how-much-price-specs-lambo-suv-audi-2021-3">Urus SUV</a>. Later this decade, Lamborghini plans to launch its first all-electric vehicle. </p><p>Since Lamborghini buyers order their cars far in advance, the company will continue churning out gas-powered vehicles for some time.</p><div type="image" title="The orange 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto is pictured with its vertical scissor doors open." height="1667" width="2500" msid="101523236" hostid="261" sizebytes="162100"></div><p>The decision to embrace electrification after decades defined by thunderous V12 engines ultimately came down to tightening emissions regulations around the world, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-lamborghini-revuelto-electrified-hybrid-supercar-aventador-photos-cost-2023-4">Winkelmann told Insider in an interview earlier this year</a>. The auto industry as a whole is in the midst of an expensive, messy transition to electric vehicles. </p><p>But just because Lamborghini is rethinking the way its cars are fueled, that doesn't mean it's going soft or losing touch with its roots. Winkelmann told Insider he is intent on giving Lamborghini buyers the adrenaline-pumping performance they expect — and more — while cutting the company's carbon footprint. </p><p>The company's first <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/toyota-rav4-hybrid-prime-plug-in-review-xse-2022-7">plug-in hybrid</a> (a type of vehicle with more electric-only range and a bigger battery than a traditional hybrid) is set to hit driveways and climate-controlled 12-car garages in late 2023. Thanks to a V12, three electric motors, and a small battery, the Revuelto supercar can produce just over 1,000 horsepower and hit 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, Lamborghini estimates. </p>

Tata Motors total sales down 1.73% at 74,172 units in Nov

New Delhi, <keyword id="6357096" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahindra-mahindra" source="Orion">Mahindra &amp; Mahindra</keyword> on Friday said its total wholesales increased by 21 per cent year on year to 70,576 units in November. The Mumbai-based automaker had dispatched 58,303 units in November 2022. Utility vehicle dispatches stood at 39,981 units last month, an increase of 32 per cent over 30,238 units in the year-ago period, <keyword id="45224" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mahindra" source="Orion">Mahindra</keyword> &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) said in a statement. <br /><br /> Exports, however, declined 42 per cent last month to 1,816 units as compared to 3,122 units in November 2022. <br /><br /> "We continue our growth trend, backed by strong demand for our SUV portfolio...While we saw a healthy festive season, we faced supply challenges on select parts during the month. Mahindra sales rise 21% to 70,576 units in November

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Lamborghini has unveiled its new Temerario hybrid supercar, a successor to the best-selling Huracan.</li><li>Its 907 horsepower hybrid power unit features a biturbo V8 paired with three electric motors.</li></ul><p><a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lamborghinis-2016-2">Lamborghini's</a> electric revolution is speeding ahead with the introduction of the 907-horsepower Temerario — a supercar that marks the brand's complete hybridization.</p><p>The brand unveiled the new Temerario <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lamborghini-last-fully-gas-powered-supercar-electric-plug-in-hybrid-2023-7">hybrid</a> supercar on Friday before a crowd in Monterey, California, as part of its annual Car Week festivities.</p><p>"Temerario means 'courageous' in Spanish and is the name of a fighting bull that fought in 1875," Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann told Business Insider in a recent interview.</p><p>Well, the Temerario better be courageous as it has the unenviable task of being the successor to the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lamborghini-huracan-tecnica-supercar-review-2022-12">Huracan</a>, Lamborghini's best-selling supercar to date, with more than 20,000 sold during its decadelong production run that ended this year.</p><p>"It will be a key player in a market that is growing bigger but is also very crowded," Winkelmann said. Its sharp front end and highly raked windshield leave no question that the Temerario is a supercar. The Lamborghini's aluminum body panels feature only minimum lines and creases, a look Winkelmann called "pure."</p><p>The design not only looks cool but also helps the new Lambo go fast. The Temerario's aerodynamics deliver 103% better rear downforce than the outgoing <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lamborghini-huracan-evo-spyder-review-photos-features-verdict-2020-5">Huracan EVO</a>; that figure improves to 158% if you opt for the track-focused Alleggerita Pack.</p><p>Inside, the Temerario's cabin is both roomier and more high-tech than the Huracan.</p><p>Engineers gave taller drivers an extra inch of headroom and an additional two inches of legroom, which are handy when wearing a helmet for track driving.</p><div type="image" title="The of a blue Lamborghini Temerario supercar parked in front of sand dunes." height="3149" width="5598" msid="112663204" hostid="261" sizebytes="2707110"></div><p>The cabin will feature three main displays: a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster in front of the driver, an 8.4-inch central screen, and a 9.1-inch passenger screen. The Temerario will come equipped with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.</p><p>The biggest change for the Temerario is the decision to replace the naturally aspirated V10 engine that has defined Lamborghini's "entry-level" supercars for the past two decades with a hybridized V8.</p><p>According to Winkelmann, going hybrid with the Temerario and the company's <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/new-lamborghini-revuelto-electrified-hybrid-supercar-aventador-photos-cost-2023-4">flagship Revuelto</a>, which launched last year, allows Lamborghini to keep big internal combustion engines in its supercars for the next decade until 2035 when EU regulations ending ICE car sales kick in.</p><div type="image" title="The cabin of a Lamborghini Temerario supercar with brown leather seats and interior accents." height="4320" width="7680" msid="112663205" hostid="261" sizebytes="1168614"></div><p>The Italian supercar maker is evaluating a host of potential solutions to keep ICE engines in its cars after 2035, including using carbon-neutral fuels, the Lamborghini CEO told Business Insider.</p><p>Mounted behind the Temerario's driver's compartment is a new 4.0-liter, bi-turbo V8 engine that produces more than 800 horsepower. It's paired with three electric motors and a 3.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to produce 907 system horsepower.</p><p>Two of the electric motors are mounted to the front axle. The third electric motor is mounted directly onto the engine to provide additional torque and works with the 8-speed dual-clutch transmission to drive the rear wheels.</p><div type="image" title="The cabin of a Lamborghini Temerario hybrid supercar with brown leather upholstery and accents along with three screens." height="4320" width="7550" msid="112663206" hostid="261" sizebytes="934698"></div><p>Together, the system gives the Temeario a virtual all-wheel-drive system.</p><p>According to Lamborghini, the Temerario can do 0-62 mph in just 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of over 213 mph.</p><p>A key feature of the Temerario's V8 engine is its astronomical 10,000 RPM redline that will surely be music to the ears of supercar aficionados worldwide.</p><p>In fact, Lamborghini's sound engineers have tuned the Temerario's engine mounts, chassis, and body panels to amplify and transmit the V8's rumble directly to its occupants.</p><div type="image" title="The rear end of a blue Lamborghini Temerario supercar." height="3286" width="6108" msid="112663207" hostid="261" sizebytes="307820"></div><p>The driver will be able to enjoy the Temerario's high-revving V8 in several driving modes, ranging from an easygoing City Mode to a full-on track mode.</p><p>For the first time, Lamborghini is offering a Drift Mode that helps drivers generate controlled oversteer into corners. This mode is for those who want to go into corners sideways but don't quite have the driving skill to do so without risking damaging their new Italian supercar.</p><p>Pricing has not yet been announced for the Lamborghini Temerario, which is expected to go on sale next year. The outgoing Huracan's base variant started at $250,000, while higher-end STO models started at $350,000.</p>

Lamborghini's new hybrid supercar has 900 horsepower — and marks the brand's complete move to hybrid

New Delhi, Italian automaker Automobili <keyword id="75789" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lamborghini" source="Orion">Lamborghini</keyword> plans to deploy hybrid technology in its models in India by the end of 2024 as the Italian super sports car maker aims to halve the emissions from its cars in the coming years, according to a top company executive. The niche player also expressed confidence that the country's taxation policy remains consistent though any tax reductions will be welcome. <br /><br /> The company currently sells three models -- premium SUV Urus and two super sports cars Huracan Tecnica and Aventador in the country, with prices starting upwards of Rs 3 crore. <br /><br /> "The roadmap for us is that by the end of 2024 we are going to hybridise our entire model range. So this year we will have a first hybrid, the new V12, then in 2024 we will have the Urus hybrid and also a new V10 which is also going to be a hybrid," <keyword id="1713293" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lamborghini-india" source="Orion">Lamborghini India</keyword> Head Sharad Agarwal told PTI. <br /><br /> In 2028, the company plans to bring in a fourth model globally which is going to be the fully electric model, he added. <br /><br /> "The idea is to reduce 50 per cent of the emissions from our cars by 2025," Agarwal said. <br /><br /> The company will bring in the upgraded models globally and then introduce them in the Indian market as well. <br /><br /> Lamborghini began its India operations in 2007. Last year, it sold 92 units in India, a growth of 33 per cent over 69 units in 2021. <br /><br /> When asked if the high rate of taxation on imported cars is affecting the growth of the luxury car segment in India, Agarwal said: "Today, the market is aligned to the current tax structure that we have..who would not like to have lesser duties..but that is not the priority from our end..." <br /><br /> Further, he said, "Last 5-6 years, we have seen that there is a constant tax regime from the government and we would always request in maintaining this consistency. Once the segment is aligned with the structure let the segment grow." <br /><br /> He stated that the government should maintain the consistency in the policy. <br /><br /> "We are not asking to reduce it (tax) but if it comes down who will say no to it," Agarwal said. <br /><br /> Lamborghini imports its entire model range to India. <br /><br /> Currently, imported as CBUs (Completely Built Units) with CIF of more than USD 40,000 or with engine capacity of more than 3,000 cc for petrol-run vehicles and more than 2,500 cc for diesel-run vehicles attract 100 per cent customs duty.

Lamborghini to deploy hybrid tech across model range in India by 2024-end

Ahmedabad, Feb 13 () Contrary to a belief that super-rich would not think much when it comes to buying their favourite car, the Indian arm of super sports car manufacturer Lamborghini has said around 60 to 65 per cent of their cars are sold on car finance in the country.<p> While most of the buyers of these super-cars are industrialists and businessmen, the company has rarely sold a car to a corporate professional, such as a CEO, in India, said Lamborghini India head Sharad Agarwal.</p><p> "Our buyers are wealth creators, not wealth inheritors. They understand the value of money. Though they have money they would calculate everything before shelling out Rs 5 crore on a car.</p><p> He would think about investing that much money into his own business and buy the car on loan," Sharad Agarwal told reporters here.</p><p> "Let me tell you that we do sell cars on EMI. More than 60 to 65 per cent our our cars are sold on finance. Majority of our buyers are industrialists or businessmen. Unlike in the US, very rarely we witness a corporate professional, like a CEO, buying a Lamborghini in India," he said.</p><p> He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the launch of 'Huracan EVO RWD', a super sports car.</p><p> Price of the car starts from Rs 3.22 crore, ex-showroom, pan-India.</p><p> Agarwal said the super luxury segment (cars priced above Rs 2.5 crore) too experienced a slowdown last calendar year of 2019, when just 265 such cars of different brands were sold in India.</p><p> In 2018, the number was 315.</p><p> While Lamborghini India sold 45 units in 2018, the number was 52 in 2019 calendar year.</p><p> "While the market sentiments were negative last year, our growth was around 15 per cent last year. We are looking to maintain the growth momentum in this year too" said Agarwal, adding that people from non-metro cities are also queuing up to buy Lamborghini cars these days.</p><p> "Around three years back, 99 per cent our sales was coming from metro cities, like Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata.</p> Now metro cities contribute 75 per cent while 25 per cent sales is coming from tier-1 and tier-2 cities, such as Ahmedabad, Surat, Nashik, Jaipur, Indore and Kanpur. <br /> Seeking a double digit growth this year, <keyword id="45964" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rolls-Royce">Rolls Royce</keyword> plans to attract women and younger buyers as these are its hot customers right now who are boosting its sales. Two factors, with cars starting at around Rs 3 crore and going up to Rs 6 crore depending on the level of customisation, only those with serious spending money can afford a Rolls and the growth in the number of female ultra-high net worth individuals is expected to exceed that of males, fuelled by entrepreneurship, albeit on a smaller base, are working behind its sales.<br />
<br /> "This expected growth of affluent self-made women is very encouraging," said <keyword id="85936" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Paul-Harris">Paul Harris</keyword>, region director, Asia Pacific for Rolls Royce. "Buyers now are younger. I would say female interest has doubled, female ownership of our modern products has significantly increased."<br />
 <br /> Film star <keyword id="1655" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Priyanka-Chopra">Priyanka Chopra</keyword> bought a Rolls last year, according to industry sources.<br />

"I like the design, which I feel is a marvel that transcends time," Gupta told ET recently. "Every inch of the car is an epitome of superior craftsmanship. The design pays homage to the classical models, but is still contemporary. The Ghost starts silently, and stays silent even when it gathers speed. I find its power of silence remarkable," said entrepreneur Paras Gupta, 22, a director at pre-school chain Mother's Pride, who recently took delivery of a Rolls Royce Ghost Series 2 in Delhi.<br />

Moreover, Rolls Royce will be organising an exclusive women's event in Mumbai this year, said Harris. The events will revolve around the fashion and bridal arenas — no men will be allowed, not even Harris.<br />

He also pointed out that the seven members Asia marketing team is all women. Additionally, the company's Bespoke Design Team at the Goodwood headquarters in the UK has textile design experts Cherica Haye and Michelle Lusby who are responsible for designing exterior paint and leather colours as well as interior textures. In India, the dealership in Chennai is headed by a woman and the company intends to hire a significant female workforce at its sales outlets going ahead.<br />

"We need to adapt and make sure that there are enough women working at our dealerships, so we would be hiring more to cater to future need," Harris said. Besides this, the company is trying to make its communication more suited to a youthful audience rather than those of an older generation, he said.<br /> It collaborated with New York's <keyword id="212569" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Pratt-Institute">Pratt Institute</keyword>, known for its architecture, interior design and industrial design programmes, on the 'Inspired by Fashion' version of the Wraith. The launch event in New York in March 2015 also featured three women fashion leaders discussing change in the fashion industry.<br />

Apart from the Wraith cited above, the Phantom Limelight has also been designed to appeal to women. The Limelight, of which only 25 have been made, features a women's pannier, or storage area, that can be personalised.<br />

Super sports carmaker Lamborghini is also catering to this trend. When it comes to choosing among sports cars, women tip the scales, according to internal research. Globally, celebrity Lamborghini owners include Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and model Deana Uppal. <br />
This is a reflection of women wanting to drive the powerful machines that were once the preserve of men, said Pavan Shetty, head of operations at Lamborghini India.<br />

"The number of women who own Lamborghinis today and the ones who share the cars with their husbands is increasing," he said. "We intend to seriously increase our engagement with women prospects and would like to see more women owning our cars." Harris, who declined to mention a target for sales this year, was asked if 100 cars a year would be possible.<br />

"That number is still the market we see as the potential, with the product lines that are coming in and as long as the rest of the platform remains same," he said. "I think it is possible. Absolutely." He also sees forthcoming models as widening the company's appeal. One is the Dawn, which will be launched globally this year and is likely to reach India by 2016. The Cullinan, the company's first SUV, is expected to be launched in three years or so.<br />
 <br /> All alike agree that catering to women’s likes is the key to its growth. The market for super <keyword id="6376889" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="luxury-cars">luxury cars</keyword> such as Rolls Royce, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ferrari, priced at Rs 2 crore to Rs 6 crore, posted a decline of 15% to 110-115 units due to sluggish macro-economic factors.<br />

Last year, Rolls Royce sold 4,000 cars worldwide — the fifth record year in a row. But only 40 of those cars were sold in India, down from 91 in 2011. In the luxury auto trade, the marque has unbeatable cachet but the BMW-owned Rolls Royce needs to rebuild sales in the country. <br />

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="12441078" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="lamborghini" source="Orion">Lamborghini</keyword> isn't planning to phase out gas engines just yet. </li><li>It's launching a slew of plug-in hybrids before launching an all-electric vehicle in 2027 or 2028. </li></ul><p>Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann knows his brand needs to move toward sustainability and lower emissions. But even as much of the auto industry shifts away from fossil fuels, you won't see Lamborghini sell an all-electric <keyword id="12003328" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="supercar" source="Orion">supercar</keyword> anytime soon. </p><p>The reason is simple, Winkelmann told Insider in an interview: People associate Lambos with big, loud, powerful V10s and V12s (alongside their signature, aggressive styling, and doors that go up, not out) and they're not likely to give that up overnight.</p><p>As emissions regulations tighten worldwide, Lamborghini intends to shift course — but in a way that doesn't compromise the "DNA of having strong combustion engines," Winkelmann said. </p><p>The storied supercar maker is instead taking a multi-stage approach to electrification without rushing into things. "It's not important to be the first one to adopt, in this case, the technology, but you have to be the best one," he said. </p><div type="image" title="2021 Lamborghini Urus._KL_22" height="1667" width="2500" msid="90406054" hostid="261"></div><p>2022 is the last year that Lamborghini will only sell pure-combustion vehicles.</p><p>By 2024, it plans to overhaul its lineup with three plug-in hybrids: successors to the Aventador and Huracan <keyword id="12003329" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="supercars" source="Orion">supercars</keyword>, along with a new version of the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lamborghini-urus-review-how-much-price-specs-lambo-suv-audi-2021-3">popular Urus SUV</a>. If hybrids land somewhere between gas cars and electric vehicles, then <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/rav4-toyota-plug-in-hybrid-first-drive-review-suv-mpg-2020-10">plug-in hybrids</a> — equipped with larger batteries, better fuel economy, and the capability to drive short distances under electric power only — are the midway point between a hybrid and a full EV. </p><p>Hybridization is crucial for making Lamborghini greener in a way that is "acceptable and digestible" by markets and consumers, Winkelmann said. Marrying clean electric motors and big gas engines allows the company to appeal to two opposing factions of its customer base: the older, combustion-engine purists and the younger crowd, which places greater value on environmental responsibility. </p><p>"We have generations which are still very much looking into internal combustion engines, and we have new generations which are saying, 'we want you to be compliant and we want you to reduce emissions,'" Winkelmann said. "We have to move accordingly without diluting the values of the brand." </p><p>Ferrari, Lamborghini's main rival, already sells two plug-in hybrid models.</p><p>By 2025, Lamborghini aims to cut its CO2 emissions in half. Sometime around 2027 or 2028, Lamborghini will launch its first all-electric vehicle, a four-seat, "daily usable" car, as Winkelmann puts it. It'll also sell an electric version of the Urus SUV, by far its top-selling model. </p><p>But the company sees an opportunity to keep its supercars hybrid through the advent and wider distribution of synthetic fuels, which could allow combustion engines to operate with minimal harmful emissions. If that doesn't come to bear, legislation will "guide us into electrification, for sure," Winkelmann said. But Lamborghini is taking things one step at a time. </p>

New Delhi, Feb 2 () Italian super sports car maker Lamborghini expects its premium luxury SUV Urus to drive future growth in India with the model accounting for 50 per cent of its sales in the country, a senior company official said.
<p> The company, which delivered its 50th Urus in India last year, has an eight-month waiting period on the model at present.
</p><p> "Urus is playing a big role and is contributing 50 per cent of our business. Order bank is still very healthy for the car," Lamborghini India Head Sharad Agarwal told .
</p><p> He further said, "Our future growth in India will also be largely driven by Urus while sportscar will remain at the core of our operations."
</p><p> The company sold a total of 52 units in India last year as compared to 45 units in 2018.
</p><p> Explaining why the Urus will become the mainstay for Lamborghini in India, Agarwal said, "We have not seen the sports car segment growing at a very fast pace. Urus is helping us bring new customers from premium luxury sedans and SUVs, customers who were not earlier in super luxury segment."
</p><p> The model has also brought in a whole new set of buyers who are first time buyers of the Lamborghini brand.
</p><p> "What we are seeing is the newer set of people, first-time buyers of Lamborghini are further growing from earlier 70 per cent to around 75-80 per cent. It (Urus) is actually helping us expand to reach new segment. Plus it is also helping us to expand the super luxury segment," he said.
</p><p> Reflecting on how well has Urus been received in India, Agarwal said, "The model is still on eight months waiting period. In 2019 we delivered the 50th Urus in India, in flat one year of sales of the car, which means we were delivering one Urus every week in its first year of sales in India. That's a big achievement in super luxury segment."
</p><p> He further said due to Urus the overall usage pattern of Lamborghini cars in India among its customers are changing.
</p><p> "Customers are really loving the car (Urus). On an average we have our cars which are doing around 2,500 km a year and with Urus we are on an average clocking around 8,000 km. So, people are really using the car and they are coming with different set of expectation from the car," Agarwal said.

A technical glitch forced Lamborghini to temporarily shut down the launch presentation and global webstream. </p><p>While the presentation may have been a bit of a mess, the Urus is anything but. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Lamborghini</span></p><p class="caption">The Lamborghini Urus.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The COO of Lamborghini makes no bones about what an SUV will mean for the exotic Italian automaker.</p><p>"It's going to change the landscape of the company," Alessandro<em> </em><span>Farmeschi told Business Insider when we sat down at the Detroit auto show last month.</span></p><p><span>When the Lamborghini Urus goes on sale later this year, it will enable Lambo to join the high-performance luxury SUV party - a party that kicked off way back in 2002, when Porsche debuted the Cayenne SUV. In the last year, the festivities have decidedly heated up, as Jaguar, Maserati, and Bentley have all jumped in (even Rolls-Royce is preparing to launch an SUV).</span></p><p><span>The motivation is obvious. In the US especially, SUV sales have been booming. Anyone selling a luxury version has been raking in the cash. Cadillac brought its XT5 crossover to market last June and within a short period of time was moving 5,000 units a month. Demand is indisputable.</span></p><p><span>With sports-car sales fading, Lamborghini and teenage-bedroom-poster rival Ferrari have been the main SUV holdouts. But Ferrari continues to steadfastly deny any plants to create an SUV, referring customers instead to its GT4C Lusso two-door all-wheel-driver, or to former stablemate Maserati's Levante.</span></p><p><span>Lambo is a different story. The forthcoming Urus will join the Huracán supercar and the Aventador hypercar as the more practical choice in the Lambo lineup.</span></p><p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Lamborghini</span></p><p class="caption">Not a Jeep.</p></div><p></p></div></div></p><p><span>Expectations are high. </span><span><span>Farmeschi called it a "game changer," adding that it will "double the size of the company" and "enlarge the customer base."</span></span></p><p><span><span>And by double, he means <em>literally </em>double: Lamborghini's factory in Italy will expand from 800,000 square feet to 1.5 million to handle Urus production.</span></span></p><p><span><span>Like the Cayenne 15 years ago, the Urus has an obvious challenge: It has to be an SUV that will satisfy Lamborghini enthusiasts. Porsche fans were skeptical of the German carmaker's SUV aspirations (Porsche and Lamborghini are both members of the Volkswagen Group, by the way), but the Cayenne has been wildly successful for a company once known mainly for its 911 sports car.</span></span></p><p><span><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>Lamborghini</span></p><p class="caption">The LM002 was Lambo's first SUV.</p></div><p></p></div></div></span></span></p><p><span><span>Lambo briefly flirted with an SUV in the late 1980s and 1990s, the offbeat LM002, which was more of a Hummer-clone than a proper Lamborghini. The Urus is a different beast. It's a sleek, aggressive super-SUV that <span>Farmeschi said must maintain the DNA of Lamborghini while serving as a daily driver.</span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span>"Lamborghini" and "daily driver" aren't typically encountered in the same sentence, so you can see what <span>Farmeschi and his company are up against.</span></span></span></span></p><p><span><span><span><span>That said, the COO envisions a "two-Lamborghini driveway" in the future, with performance and utility parked side by side - and in the case of the Urus, captured in the same vehicle. Lamborghini's Urus SUV will be a game-changer for the company - here's why

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span>REUTERS/Jason Lee</span></p><p class="caption">The Lamborghini Urus.</p></div><p></p></div></div>Luxury car maker Lamborghini is attempting to shake off its macho image in order to target women and families for the first time, <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-08-30/lamborghini-pivots-to-target-women-and-families">Bloomberg reports</a>.</p><p>The company's recently appointed chief executive Stefano Domenicali said the brand - with its famous raging bull logo - plans to soften its image with the launch of its new Urus SUV, which is due to roll out in 2018 at a starting price of around $200,000.</p><p>Domenicali said: "A bull is always aggressive, but I would like to give us a new philosophy toward the future: A bull can be gentle."</p><p>The Volkswagen Group-owned Lamborghini hopes the majority of the new SUV's buyers will be women, but just 5% of its global buyers last year were female - a figure that has stayed at around the same level for more than a decade, according to Bloomberg, which shows how much of a task the automaker has ahead of it.</p><p>The Lamborghini Urus SUV has softer edges than signature Lamborghinis and is expected to have a 600-horsepower, turbocharged V8 engine rather than the automaker's signature V12.</p><p>Domenicali said: "A bull can recognize people with a glimpse of the eye and be smart. He is not always aggressive in a negative way. He's aggressive because he is [a] very strong animal, but the Lamborghini of the future is an animal that can recognize the beauty of people, can recognize the fact that we are going to a family-oriented business with an SUV."</p><p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/r-lamborghini-sees-worldwide-sales-doubling-by-2019-after-suv-launch-2016-8?IR=T">Lamborghini expects to at least double production to 7,000 vehicles a year</a> by 2019 once it rolls out its new SUV.
