<ul><li>While thousands of Indians have lost jobs due to the coronavirus pandemic, all hope is not lost. </li><li>Experts believe that upskilling and reskilling is the need of the hour as a massive adoption of technology will also mean a rise in demand for tech-driven skills. </li><li>Given the current scenario, IT, edtech, pharma and healthcare are few areas that will continue to hire and grow, despite the pandemic.</li></ul>The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we work – bringing in a digital first approach. As companies are now assessing the alternate remote working model, this quick adoption of technology, will also bring in the need for agility and a greater demand for digital literacy and soft skills. Neeti Sharma, SVP, TeamLease Services believes that ‘work from home’ is here to stay as companies are now seeking to deploy a qualitative workforce so as to strike a balance between cost, scale and quality. “Employees need to be up-skilled and reskilled during this lockdown period and be prepared for the changed workplace environment. The current disruption has reinforced the need for technical, digital and soft skills required to work both in the virtual and digital world and these are the skills hiring managers are seeking in employees,” Sharma told Business Insider. Over the past two months, thousands of employees have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Startups like Ola, Zomato, Swiggy, Make My Trip axed jobs amid the lockdown. Meanwhile, a recent survey of CEOs, that included over 50 Indian startups, showed that <a href="https://qz.com/india/1830676/salary-cuts-arrive-at-indian-startups-amid-the-coronavirus-slump/">one in four startups in India already announced pay cuts</a>. And, a third of them are considering doing so. But all hope is not lost as experts believe that certains sectors and skills will see a rise in demand soon. IT, edtech, pharma and healthcare continue to hire <keyword id="1458566" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="digital-skills">digital skills</keyword> Given the current scenario, IT, edtech, pharma and healthcare are few areas that will continue to hire and grow, despite the pandemic, said Sharma. Additionally, digital skills will continue to see significant uptake. <keyword id="1533352" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vijay-Sivaram">Vijay Sivaram</keyword>, CEO of IT staffing firm <keyword id="6370333" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="quess-corp">Quess Corp</keyword> says that the need for android and iOS developers will continue to be while emerging skills like <keyword id="9335872" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kubernetes-microservices">Kubernetes &amp; microservices</keyword> will also see a rise in demand. “For functional roles, knowledge of platforms like application tracking systems for HR, invoicing through the use of RPA’s, collections through bots are becoming the new norm,” he said. This also includes technologies like python, angular, full-stack and SaaS. In addition, data analytics is a much sought after skill set — which will surely boost the demand for professionals skilled in AI/ ML technologies, according to TeamLease. Digital skills also critical to senior executives and product managers With the change in the work environment, product managers will be more in demand as they will be required to “understand the change and adopt it as part of the company’s product plans.” The senior managers need to understand technology and how automation works. On the other hand, sales professionals have to adapt to digital and know how digital skills can be aligned to their workstream. Meanwhile, HR executives will have to prepare to deal with employees’ mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. They will be required to assess headcount requirements, productivity, assessments while planning their learning interventions. “The pandemic has proved that organisations and leaders need to make smart and innovative strategies to combat such unprecedented disasters. They need to assimilate policies to ensure that any such unforeseeable circumstances do not have a negative effect on employee morale, business productivity and organisational culture,” Sharma of TeamLease said. Digital skills that experts believe you need to survive the current job crisis

Atlas is one of MongoDB's core products, generating $200 million in annual recurring revenue for the company. It was part of Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian's plan to catch up to AWS and Microsoft by appealing to open source developers and customers alike, and it's paid off for MongoDB, it seems."We're benefiting from that macro-level push Google has in the market," MongoDB chief product officer Sahir Azam told Business Insider. "There's a lot of traction and uptick we're seeing in <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-anthos-for-telecom-att-2020-3">GCP</a>."Azam also says that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-next-postponed-digital-conference-coronavirus-2020-3">Google Cloud</a> benefits from how more companies are using multiple clouds, instead of just picking one. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/aws-microsoft-google-customers-industries-2020-3">Google Cloud</a> last year <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-pushed-ahead-of-amazon-with-anthos-hybrid-cloud-offering-2019-4">announced a product</a> called <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-anthos-hybrid-cloud-william-blair-analysts-2019-7">Anthos</a> that allows customers to easily manage their work on multiple clouds, as well as their own data centers. Likewise, he says <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mongodb-realm-acquisition-price-2019-4">MongoDB</a> can be used on multiple clouds as well - customers can use any combination of the clouds it supports."It's something more organizations are implementing as a best practice," Azam said. "Especially large organizations, they don't want to place their bets on a single cloud provider. They want to avoid lock-in. As multi-cloud becomes a bigger and bigger thing, I think GCP will benefit."Here's why three companies are betting on <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/here-are-the-cloud-companies-google-could-buy-analysts-2020-3">Google Cloud</a> and MongoDB. <h2>'We wanted something that could offload most of the work'</h2>The 3D printing company Ultimaker looked at AWS, Microsoft, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-partner-sada-systems-500-million-agreement-2020-2">Google Cloud</a> to help manage its printers on the cloud, but it picked Google for two reasons. The first is that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-president-tariq-shaukat-leaving-role-reorganization-2020-2">Google Cloud</a> has a partnership and managed service with MongoDB, which Ultimaker uses. In addition, Utlimaker also felt that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-thomas-kurian-looker-acquisitions-2020-2">Google Cloud</a> was the most developer-friendly and suitable for microservices, the method of using many lightweight services that communicate with each other to help run a large-scale application. Because of that, Ultimaker felt that working with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-cloud-ceo-thomas-kurian-aws-microsoft-2020-2">Google Cloud</a> was the most flexible for scaling its applications.UltimakerChris ter Blake, software architect at Ultimaker"We saw an increased need for managing infrastructure with more printers," Chris ter Beke, software architect at Ultimaker, told Business Insider. "We saw that opportunity. In order to provide that, we were really looking for a cloud provider. We wanted something that could offload most of the work."By using Google Cloud, Ultimaker allows its customers to 3D print products or prototypes that they're designing, even if the printer is located far away. Before, making changes to a product could take at least a month, but now, companies can do that within days, Ultimaker said. Working with both Google Cloud and MongoDB has also allowed Ultimaker to scale. Last year, the company did less than a million print jobs a week, and now it supports 2 million a week, says Paul Heiden, senior vice president of product management at the 3D printing company Ultimaker."It's these types of scenarios where we really need the scalability of the Mongo database," Heiden told Business Insider.<h2>'It's been great for us having these two pieces tied together'</h2>When the fraud prevention platform Precognitive first started working with Google Cloud in 2016, Google Cloud was still in its early stages and certain features were missing, says Zac Rosenbauer, vice president of technology at Precognitive. Now, he says Google Cloud has "quickly learned from the other cloud players."Precognitive had considered AWS, but it picked Google Cloud because of its work with <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-kubernetes-google-cloud-2019-1">Kubernetes</a>, a popular open source cloud computing project that makes applications easier to scale and run anywhere. In fact, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/vmware-heptio-acquisition-vmworld-kubernetes-2019-8">Kubernetes</a> was <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/google-aparna-sinha-kubernetes-interview-2019-3">started at Google</a>. PrecognitiveZac Rosenbauer, vice president of technology at PrecognitiveRosenbauer also says Google Cloud has done a good job at how it approaches working with open source software companies. "The other thing that Google has done really well is a tendency of some of the other cloud players to piggyback off existing open source things and benefit from having managed versions of that," Rosenbauer said. "Google has taken an opposite approach."Rosenbauer says that by embracing the cloud, the company is able to push out updates to customers faster. He also says MongoDB was Precognitive's database of choice "from day one" because of how quickly it can sort through documents and data. And now that those two companies have partnered up, Rosenbauer says it's been helpful being able to get support from them both. "As a startup we had a lot of things changing very quickly," Rosenbauer said. "Just the fact that MongoDB and Google Cloud partnered together - it's been great for us having these two pieces tied together."<h2>Putting everything on the cloud was the 'obvious choice'</h2>Tom Chomiak, CTO and co-founder of the virtual tour software company Panoskin, says it was the "obvious choice" for the startup to put everything on the cloud. It already relies on Google Street View for its virtual tours, making Google Cloud a logical pick, Chomiak says.Besides Google Cloud, Panoskin also runs some of its applications in its private data centers, as well in AWS. Chomiak says this approach helps mitigate risks, in case one cloud or data center goes down. Likewise, he says MongoDB Atlas works well on any cloud."Once we started using Atlas, our entire team loved it," Chomiak told Business Insider. "It's super easy to contain everything. But some of the hype has come off, as competitors have swooped in.</li><li>Singh says that the company is in a good position to help companies modernize their existing software, using Docker to make it easy to meet the needs of 21st century applications.</li><li>He says that despite the gossip, he wants Docker to be an independent company with $1 billion in revenue. But "if someone buys us, they buy us."</li></ul>Back in 2014, Steve Singh had to explain to a Wall Street analyst - on a public conference call for investors, no less - why Concur, the company he had cofounded two decades earlier and where he was serving as CEO, had put itself up for sale to SAP for $8.3 billion. Singh tells Business Insider that he took immediate exception to the question. "[I] think what you're going to find [...] is the company was not up for sale. Great companies are acquired, they're not sold," <a href="https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1066026/000119312514348381/d792184ddefa14a.htm">Singh told the analyst</a>. Now, Singh is the CEO of $1.2 billion software startup Docker, after taking over for Ben Golub just over a year ago. And while the details are different, Singh told Business Insider at the Dockercon event this week that his philosophy hasn't changed: Even as some observers openly speculate about the performance and future of the startup, he insists he's in it for the long haul.While Docker is credited with igniting the massive trend towards software containers (more on that later), Silicon Valley gossip has long held that the company moved too slowly and made too many missteps to capitalize on its early momentum. At one point in 2016, <a href="https://www.sdxcentral.com/articles/news/sources-microsoft-tried-to-buy-docker-for-4b/2016/06/">Docker reportedly turned down a $4 billion acquisition</a> offer from <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/msft-stock">Microsoft</a>. Singh says that he's ignoring the buzz, and working towards a day when Docker is a publicly traded company with a bulletproof business model and $1 billion in annual revenue."Yes, one day we'll be public," says Singh. "If someone buys us, they buy us." While Docker is a private company and doesn't have to share its financials, Singh gives some hints as to the success of the strategy, so far: Over the last year, Docker has doubled its <keyword id="6356323" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="enterprise">enterprise</keyword> customers, he says. And bookings have gone from "single digits" of millions in 2016, to "double digits" in 2017, and on track to do "almost triple digits" in 2018.He's confident enough that he says that the company has no immediate plans to go after more investment capital."We don't need to at this point," says Singh. <h2>So what is Docker, anyway?</h2>Docker, the software, makes it easy for developers to take advantage of software containers - a technology for packaging an application up in a neat, tidy metaphorical box, such that it runs exactly the same on your laptop as it does in a massive data center or cloud computing platform. The tech existed before, but it was never as easy or convenient. The success of Docker led to the massive adoption of containers, by companies of all shapes and sizes. At first, it looked like Docker was well-positioned to capitalize on this wave, and it raised $95 million in funding <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/docker-raises-95-million-to-fight-coreos-and-google-2015-4">at a $1 billion valuation in 2015</a>.As the competition heated up, though, things changed. While the Docker open source project remained a popular way to create containers, it struggled to find a consistent strategy for selling to businesses. Meanwhile, big vendors swooped in, as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/red-hat-coreos-acquisition-explanation-2018-1">Red Hat</a>, Pivotal, VMware, and others all made huge bets on containers. Google, in particular, has had massive success with Kubernetes, free software for managing containers. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">DockerDocker founder and former CTO Solomon Hykes</div></div></div>And so, some of the hype around Docker, the company, started to fade, as concerns about the health of the business mounted. When word got out last year that Docker was raising money, there was some skepticism: "If only it could raise similar amounts from paying customers," <a href="https://www.techrepublic.com/article/why-dockers-survival-depends-on-money-from-customers-not-investors/">joked Adobe executive Matt Asay in a column for TechRepublic</a>. Ultimately, Docker would <a href="https://www.crunchbase.com/funding_round/docker-series-e--a283f818">raise $61.8 million at a pre-money valuation of $1.2 billion in October</a>, according to Crunchbase - an extremely modest uptick in valuation from 2015, comparatively. And in March of this year, Solomon Hykes, the original developer of the Docker software, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/docker-cto-solomon-hykes-is-leaving-2018-3">left his operational role at the company, though he remains on the board.</a><h2>The future is containers</h2>Singh says that containers are still the future, and Docker is still in a good position to capitalize on that, despite pressure from Red Hat and Pivotal, which he describes as the biggest competition. At Dockercon itself, the company unveiled a new part of the master plan: A feature called federation for Docker EE, which lets you manage all of your applications no matter where they're hosted. Singh says that customers are doing piecemeal software deployments between their own servers and Amazon's, Microsoft's, and Google's clouds, and he wants Docker to be the way that they manage that complexity. "Microsoft has no interest in a multi-cloud container platform," Singh says, highlighting the fact that Docker has no horse in the cloud wars and can support everybody all at once. Docker Enterprise Edition (EE), the company's flagship product, takes an application and simplifies the process of breaking it down into containers. Once an application is thusly "containerized," Singh says it becomes easy to break it down into components, in an approach known as microservices - basically, metaphorical Lego bricks that make it simple to add new features to software, or assemble what you already have in new ways. In so doing, Singh says that Docker can save a company lots of money: First, in infrastructure, as Docker can squeeze more efficiency out of existing hardware. Second, on developer productivity, as the container approach helps standardize the way software is built, letting programmers move faster and worry less about breaking things. For big customers, like Docker flagship customer Liberty Mutual, that can add up fast.
