‘New generations of <keyword id="180553" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kashmiri-Pandits">Kashmiri Pandits</keyword> are born in exile, in refugee camps even after 26 years, ain’t that a matter of utter shame?’ 
 Questions like these are pouring in at Twitter as Kashmiri Pandits mark <keyword id="3213798" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="exodus-day">Exodus Day</keyword>. Twenty six ago in 1990, more than 300,000 Kashmiri Pandits, or Kashmiri Hindus, had fled the Valley, during insurgency, with a hope that peace will restore and they will return back. 
 
More than two decades have passed and the successive governments have failed to ensure normalcy for Kashmiri Pandits. While recounting stories during insurgency, Kashmiri Pandits say their homes were burnt and lands were grabbed. The community says they fear the same as the talks have largely remained on papers. 
 
When Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Indian government stormed into power in 2014, he spoke about rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits in the Valley, along with various welfare schemes. Even President Pranab Mukherjee backed Modi, saying it was an issue of prime importance and Kashmiri Pandits will not be left out in development schemes. 
 
However, an RTI states the opposite. 
 
Mail Today, which had access to an RTI filed by a member of Roots in Kashmir Rasnik Kher, reported that things are at a standstill even after one and a half years. 
 
Kher said there has been talk on the same, neither the Centre nor the state government seems to be interested in the issue. As per Kher, there is no plan. 
 Meanwhile, Bollywood actor <keyword id="6533" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anupam-Kher">Anupam Kher</keyword> has been active on this issue, raising his voice against the unfair treatment.

This was Trump’s fifth conversation with any world leader. Earlier, during his campaign, Trump has identified India as one of the countries he would have a special relationship with when he chose a charity event organised by the Republican Hindu Coalition for the Kashmiri Pandit terror victims and the Bangladeshi Hindu victims in Edison on October 15 to signal what some saw as an India tilt.

We are going to have a phenomenal future together," Trump told a largely Hindu-American gathering in Edison, New Jersey. He also praised Modi as a very energetic leader he looked forward to working with. 
 Also, Trump recently named an Indian-American, Ajit Pai as chairman of the <keyword id="151072" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Federal-Communications-Commission">Federal Communications Commission</keyword>, attesting to the continued strides America's best-educated ethnic group is making in the country. 
 
Pai on taking office on Tuesday tweeted "From broadband to broadcast, I believe in a 21st-century version of Jefferson's 2nd Inaugural: we are all Republicans, we are all Democrats." 
 
Pai is the third prominent Indian-American to make the cut in the new administration after Nikki Haley, who has been nominated US ambassador to the UN and who is expected to be confirmed this week, and Seema Verma, who has been appointed to lead Medicare and Medicaid. US Attorney Preet Bharara retains his post. 
 
This proves that Trump like India and its people and there is no controversy in it.

As a result, they’re being forced to leave their colleges and return home out of fear for their lives. On Sunday, 20 female Kashmiri students were forced to barricade themselves in a hostel in Dehradun, the state capital of Uttarakhand, as a mob raged outside. The mob reportedly claimed that the students had declared pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans - a claim <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/kashmiri-students-staying-outside-jk-face-backlash/articleshow/68040425.cms">they denied</a>. There were also reports of Kashmiri students in Punjab, <a href="https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/facing-threats-abuses-kashmiri-students-return-to-valley/article26297585.ece">Haryana and Maharashtra</a> being assaulted as police forces received distress calls in these states. Some students were also booked for reportedly “celebrating” the attack on social media. Meanwhile, at Aligarh Muslim University, Kashmiri students have been issued directions to “not leave campus”. To make matters worse, two colleges in Dehradun even issued a decree temporarily <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/in-dehradun-two-colleges-say-wont-admit-kashmiris-5588503/">banning the admission of students</a> from Jammu &amp; Kashmir, citing safety concerns amid aggressive protests from student unions allied with the <keyword id="42498" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="RSS">RSS</keyword> like the ABVP, VHP and <keyword id="6365937" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="bajrang-dal">Bajrang Dal</keyword>. In fact, in order to placate the student mob, which numbered in the hundreds, the head of the Baba Farid Institute of Technology, Dr Aslam Siddiqui, said that any students engaging in “anti-national” activities would be expelled and that no Kashmiri students would be admitted in the next academic session. The same stance was taken by S K Chauhan, the head of Dehradun’s Alpine College of Management and Technology. The day before, on Saturday, the Delhi Commission for Minorities, a minority rights panel, reportedly said that the local protests in the wake of the Pulwama attack were being co-opted by Hindutva groups <a href="https://thewire.in/communalism/minorities-panel-says-hindutva-groups-using-pulwama-to-target-muslims-kashmiris">to target Kashmiris and Muslims</a>. Kashmiri students bear the brunt of post-Pulwama backlash

<ul><li>Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation late last evening on the Kashmir issue, but didn’t mention when the curfew would be uplifted. </li><li>Kashmiris continue to live in curfew, with no internet, no calls. </li><li>The UN Secretary General too has expressed his concern about the worsening of human rights in <keyword id="23412" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-Kashmir">Jammu &amp; Kashmir</keyword>.</li></ul>For the last five days, Indians have been arguing, joking and debating the abrogation of Article 370, resulting in endless calls, and social media messages. But those who should have had a say in the matter, Kashmiris, are silent. Because, they have been silenced. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in the Rajya Sabha that Article 370 is scrapped. And Kashmir has been on lockdown a day before the announcement, which is August 4. Since Sunday night, internet services have been suspended in Jammu &amp; Kashmir, with a curfew in place since Monday morning (August 5). And, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made no announcement on lifting it in an address to the nation <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/narendra-modi-address-to-the-nation-live-updates-and-speech-highlights-on-kashmir-news/articleshow/70589852.cms">yesterday</a>, even as he doled out infrastructure and industry benefits. Modi however did promise that he would facilitate Eid celebration. But he did not say how, as the status quo remains in the valley. He did not speak about the communications blackout and transportation issues in the newly formed union territories. This is the case even as Muslims across the country are gearing up to celebrate Eid on August 12. Kashmiris are still not sure about their fate. Social media is filled with messages and pleas from Kashmiris living outside of Jammu &amp; Kashmir hoping for the safety of their family back home. Screenshots of messages are doing the rounds of students and professionals trying to reach out to their parents, but have no response. But the new found constitutional status is not on top of the minds of Kashmiris. A <a href="https://www.indiatoday.in/mail-today/story/kashmir-article-370-revoked-valley-faces-shortage-essential-items-due-curfew-1578458-2019-08-08">shortage of food</a> and other necessities is beginning to worry them as the curfew prevails. Reports say that people are unable to communicate with their neighbours as well. Over a 100 people have been arrested so far. That includes former chief ministers like Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah as well as Jammu and Kashmir People's Conference leaders Sajjad Lone and Imran Ansari. There is no word from the government on when they would be released, either. António Guterres, the UN Secretary General expressed his concerns over the plight of Kashmiris. A statement released on Thursday by the UN said, “The Secretary-General is also concerned overreports of restrictions on the Indian-side of Kashmir, which could exacerbate the human rights situation in the region.”

 Government did what it had to and now WhatsApp is doing what it has to The sudden deactivation of WhatsApp accounts of users from Kashmir may seem alarming to some. However, there is a simple explanation for this. In a statement to BuzzFeed News, a Facebook spokesperson revealed that the accounts have been deactivated as part of WhatsApp’s policy on inactive accounts and there is nothing suspicious about it. “To maintain security and limit data retention, WhatsApp accounts generally expire after 120 days of inactivity”, said the spokesperson. He added, "When that happens, those accounts automatically exit their WhatsApp groups. People will need to be re-added to groups upon regaining access to the Internet and joining WhatsApp again.” Facebook has not revealed the number of users affected by this policy. Users whose accounts have been deactivated will have to re-register on WhatsApp and join these groups again. No mention of 120 days policy on WhatsApp According to messaging app’s FAQ page, WhatsApp assumes that if your account is inactive for 45 days, you must have stopped using that number, and another user must have obtained it via the mobile service provider. For security purposes, WhatsApp removes account data to make sure the new user of the number cannot misuse it but it does not explicitly say that the inactive account will be deleted. A court on Tuesday granted two-hour custody parole to <keyword id="22243221" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kashmiri-leader" source="keywords">Kashmiri leader</keyword> <keyword id="834128" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sheikh-Abdul-Rashid" source="Orion">Sheikh Abdul Rashid</keyword> to take oath as a Lok Sabha <keyword id="19904133" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MP" source="keywords">MP</keyword> on July 5. Rashid, also known as <keyword id="21038061" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Engineer-Rashid" source="keywords">Engineer Rashid</keyword>, was elected from Baramulla seat as an independent candidate defeating National Conference leader Omar Abdullah in the recent Lok Sabha polls. He was <keyword id="19900069" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arrested" source="keywords">arrested</keyword> in a 2017 Jammu and Kashmir <keyword id="20041532" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="terror-funding-case" source="keywords">terror funding case</keyword>. Rashid had moved the court seeking interim bail, or custody parole in the alternative, to take oath and perform his parliamentary functions. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh allowed custody parole for two hours on July 5 to enable him to take oath. A detailed order is awaited. On Monday, the <keyword id="19907350" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NIA" source="keywords">NIA</keyword>'s counsel did not oppose Rashid's plea and said his oath taking should be subject to some conditions like not speaking to the media and completing all formalities within a day. Singh is supposed to go to Pakistan to attend the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Rajnath-Singh-Islamabad-visit/articleshow/53433670.cms">SAARC ministerial conference</a>. 
 
"I want to ask the Pakistani government will it add insult to injury to the wounds of Kashmiris by welcoming Rajnath who is responsible for the killings of innocent Kashmiris," said Saeed. "It will be ironical as on the one hand the whole Pakistani nation is protesting against the Indian atrocities in Kashmir and on the other hand the Pakistani rulers will be garlanding Singh." 
 
He added, "if Singh comes to Islamabad on August 3, the JuD would hold countrywide protest to tell the world that the Pakistani rulers might have compulsions to receive Kashmiris' killers but the people of Pakistan are siding with oppressed Kashmiris". 
 
The mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks has warned that on Singh’s arrival, his organisation would hold protest demonstrations and rallies in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, Muzaffarabad and several other cities on August 3.

Cathy O'Neil, a former employee of hedge fund D.E. Shaw and current program director at Columbia's School of Journalism, was telling stories about her experience with the SEC on <a href="http://www.slate.com/articles/podcasts/slate_money/2014/06/slate_money_on_judge_jed_rakoff_the_european_central_bank_and_the_billionaire.html">Slate's Money's podcast this weekend. </a>
For years, O'Neil has been an advocate for more transparency on Wall Street. She was a part of Occupy Wall Street's Alternative Banking Group, and even applied for work at the SEC in 2009. They never responded.
Three years later the agency tried to recruit her to work on insider trading cases, so O'Neil met with an SEC official over lunch.
She said that that lunch just happened to be on the same day that then-Citigroup CEO Vikram Pandit was supposed to call her. Her Occupy group had released a press release asking Pandit to answer questions about his bank.
So, as one does to be polite in situations like this, O'Neil told her interviewer that she may have to take a call during their lunch. She apologized for her rudeness, of course, but Vikram Pandit was obviously a very busy man.
O'Neil interviewer responded with a simple - "Who's Vikram Pandit?"
"I was like, oh wow. Wow," O'Neil said.
She went on to say that she had asked her interviewer if, instead of working on insider trading cases, she could dig into mortgage-backed securities (MBS) dating back to the financial crisis. O'Neil wanted to prove that people structuring those securities knew that they were crap.
She asked if the statute of limitations had passed on MBS cases, making that kind of work a waste of time.
To which her interviewer responded - "I have no idea... I hadn't thought about it."
