In an interaction with PTI editors at the agency's headquarters here, he said the private sector has to do the bulk of job creation, step up and do more, while creating an enabling environment and correcting imbalances, such as that of trade, are the responsibility of the government. Aggarwal also supported the government's move to offer fiscal incentives to global EV makers, including Tesla, through the new EV policy saying it is important for India to attract all kinds of investment, and globally established players will help in the development of the EV ecosystem in the country. The group's newly-listed entity <keyword id="19945904" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ola" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Ola" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="Ola">Ola</keyword> Electric aims to make India a global electric vehicle (EV) hub but the country has to invent an EV and energy transition paradigm for itself based on its needs as the world cannot achieve a sustainable future without India, he added. "There is a global technology transition happening and AI is a very important technology of the future, and we in India need to lead this journey. If you look at the current state, I think we are still adopters of somebody else's technology paradigms, especially in the digital world," Aggarwal said, explaining why the Ola group had set up AI start-up Krutrim last year. One of the things in Krutrim is to build AI models on Indian data, which is more attuned to Indian use cases, Indian paradigms, he said, adding, "We are making our own AI, on our own cloud, on our own chip." Despite India producing 20 per cent of the world's digital data at present, he lamented that the country does not fully own the data, as 80 per cent are stored outside, which are then processed into AI and "brought back into India and sold to us in dollars". When asked about concerns over AI leading to job losses, he allayed the apprehension saying that the IT boom created jobs in India when people feared that computers would take away jobs, and AI is a similar tool. "AI is not going to replace anyone. Maybe that future is a few decades away... We don't need to get anxious about that future right now. We need to, as a country, see that AI is going to amplify productivity. If we don't get onto the bandwagon, we will be left behind...," he asserted. In his view, Aggarwal said the way forward is for India to become experts in future technology. "Future technologies bring with it jobs of the future, supply chain of the future. And if we are global leaders, we are the fastest adoptive market of future technologies (then) jobs of the future will be built in India, supply chains of the future will be built in India. This is the only way... If we focus on protecting the past, you remain uncompetitive," he added. Sharing his take on employment generation in India, Aggarwal said, "I actually believe the private sector has to do the bulk of the job creation. The government's job is to create the enabling environment, create the fundamentals, help correct imbalances wherever they are, be it trade imbalances, etc and incentivise wherever it needs to be incentivised, like the PLI schemes." The government's steps such as the employment-linked incentives will also encourage private industry, he said, adding "But fundamentally the private sector has to step up and do more". Asked if the government is doing enough to create that ecosystem for the private sector, Aggarwal said, "I'm not in the government, so I want to put the limelight on ourselves. Is the private sector doing enough? I think we all can do more, and I'm on the same page. We all need to do more." In response to a query on his views over the government in extending the fiscal concession that companies like Tesla have been demanding from India, he said, "It is very important for India to attract all kinds of investment, especially (from) world leading companies. "Tesla is a best in class company. The more companies like these invest into India, the better it is for India, in a broad sense as well for the industry." He further said, "The (EV) ecosystem, including my company, will benefit from it, because it will raise the bar on expertise, on excellence, on talent, everything..." About the newly-listed entity Ola Electric, he said, "Our mission at Ola electric is to really make India a global EV hub." The company will build products such as electric two and three-wheelers that Indians need for the country to be able to invent an EV and energy transition paradigm for itself, different from the current global solution for sustainability that is focussed on electric luxury cars, Aggarwal added. On Ola Consumer, he said the ride-hailing mobility vertical is fairly profitable, while it is investing into the new e-commerce for which it has partnered with ONDC.

However, if candidates have followed up twice without receiving a response, it is advisable to maintain professionalism and move on. <h2>A two-way street </h2> While employers ghosting employees cases are rising, the opposite is also happening. GenZ workers, as per another survey, are ghosting their employers and aren’t showing up on their first day at work. In February this year, a Fortune report attributed to a research by job-search platform Indeed revealed that 93% of <keyword id="19919711" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gen-Z" source="keywords">Gen Z</keyword> workers in the UK admitted to applying for jobs but failing to attend interviews, while 87% didn’t even show up on their first day. This behaviour, as per the report, is often driven by a desire to feel in control of their career paths. Gen Z workers, in particular, have expressed a willingness to disengage from positions that do not meet their expectations. The report added that even though older generations also admit to ghosting, it is usually with feelings of regret. However, for Gen Z, it seems to be part of a larger movement that seeks greater control over their careers, aligning with the #ActYourWage mindset. Many young adults today feel empowered to prioritise their personal goals, only committing to roles they believe meet their financial and personal needs. Danny Stacy, head of talent intelligence at Indeed UK, said that a lack of transparency from employers, particularly about salary and benefits, is contributing to this rise in ghosting. As companies struggle to adjust to the increasing cost of living, employees feel justified in rejecting jobs that don’t align with their financial expectations. “It’s clear that the financial offer is the biggest carrot for employers trying to attract talent, with pay, benefits and other factors that support the rise in cost-of-living likely to prevent a job seeker from ghosting,” Stacy told Fortune.

Harris has proposed strengthening Social Security by ensuring the wealthy and big corporations pay what they owe in taxes.With the Social Security and Medicare Board of Trustees report recently projecting that Social Security will only be able to pay out full benefits <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/when-will-social-security-benefits-run-out-retirement-crisis-boomers-2024-5">for the next 11 years</a>, the issue is growing more pressing, and not only for Pennsylvanians. Richard Fiesta, the executive director of the nonpartisan 4 million-member Alliance for Retired Americans, said that "Congress and the next administration needs to have a serious look at Social Security."Some retirees are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retirement-savings-401k-pension-real-estate-investments-baby-boomers-2024-6">able to live comfortably</a> amid economic headwinds. However, Fiesta said the decline in defined benefit pension plans, or employer-subsidized retirement plans, contributes to a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retirement-crisis-social-security-poverty-older-americans-savings-inequality-2024-3">slump in average retiree savings</a>.This means that more and more Americans rely primarily on Social Security to help keep them financially afloat as they age. The previously mentioned EIG report found that income from government aid is the fastest-growing portion of an American's income, and it is primarily driven by retirees, who make up a rising share of the total US population."And we're just kind of seeing that now over the last 10 to 15 years as that generation ages into retirement," Fiesta said.<h2 id="a2e550dc-625f-4039-8e34-cbb0ecc4d25f">An aging workforce creates job mismatches</h2>The workforce in Pennsylvania is already starting to see imbalances as the younger population dwindles and the number of retirees grows.Kyle Kopko, executive director of the bipartisan legislative agency Center for Rural Pennsylvania, said local business owners complain of labor shortages. CRP research suggests that's due to fewer older adults working traditional jobs and instead pursuing entrepreneurship to supplement their retirement incomes. At the same time, lower birth rates mean younger adults are not filling the open roles either, Kopko said."If you don't have a pool of younger adults in Pennsylvania who can backfill for some of the retirees, that's going to create supply and demand imbalances," Kopko said, referring to the role retirees play in the economy as consumers, but less so as workers.When it comes to the issue of jobs nationwide, Harris proposed tax incentives for small businesses to spur more hiring, while Trump has largely focused on bolstering manufacturing in the US to create more jobs.One possible avenue for job creation — the infrastructure industry — has hardly been mentioned by either candidate in policy discussions. Bill Candelori, a 68-year-old retired commercial painter, sees this as an overlooked opportunity. He says Biden's infrastructure investments, which brought $16 billion to Pennsylvania, was a promising step but wants the next administration to go further."It's not only roads and bridges. It's airports, it's water authorities, it's schools, it's libraries, any public project," Candelori said. "That's work for us. And it's work afterward on maintaining those facilities. It's job creation."<h2 id="485b4799-3267-4ca3-96b7-d90ae5f90405">Political steps being taken</h2>State and local governments have already taken steps to address these mounting issues. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro — a Democrat — has worked with members of his administration to create a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.pa.gov/content/dam/copapwp-pagov/en/aging/documents/aging-our-way/documents/AOW%20Final%20PDF%20online%20version%20with%20signature.pdf">10-year strategic plan</a> that outlined eight key priorities for older adults, including housing, transportation, and health and community support.Pennsylvania's Aging Secretary Jason Kavulich said it's a bipartisan issue that has bipartisan support: "There is not a representative or senator who I've ever sat down with that does not care about older adults in their district."JR Reed and Krista Geer, both in charge of county-wide aging agencies, have met with older adults in Pennsylvania to hear their top worries. Geer said that one of the biggest concerns she's heard about is the high cost of living, which has interfered with their ability to afford medications, gas, and groceries. Though inflation has moderated in recent months, it's still historically elevated and putting pressure on consumers."Social security just doesn't quite keep pace with that," Geer said. The program adjusts payouts annually to account for inflation. Critics say it isn't tied to a measure that accurately reflects the spending of older Americans.Reed and Geer agree the solution is for older populations to have a bigger nest egg, but not one that comes from Social Security. Reed said that he hopes Trump or Harris will continue to fund a 1965 federal law that provides funding to states to better support older adults.At the federal level, Harris recently proposed a plan that would allow Medicare coverage for in-home eldercare, which Fiesta said would "go a long way" toward helping both older adults and the family members who typically would take care of them.Trump, to date, has offered minimal details about his plans to address eldercare. Brian Hughes — his campaign's senior advisor — told BI that the presidential hopeful and his running mate, JD Vance, "share the principles of using more choice in the marketplace and efficiency as tools for better, more affordable health care."Overall, the stakes for an aging US population are high, and bipartisan participation is required to ensure the country is properly prepared for a surge in retirees.Kavulich said that the shift needs to be addressed head-on."Older adults really drive our economies," Kavulich said. "They drive our communities, and we have to respect that. And we have to not just think of them as frail and old and vulnerable."

A battle over the future of US retirement is playing out in Pennsylvania as the election looms 

Can a tenured professor be fired for making porn? That's the question, perhaps unprecedented in the annals of higher education, that the University of Wisconsin set out to answer last month. On September 27, the system's board of regents sat down to rule on whether <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/professors-turned-porn-stars-free-speech-campus-battle-wisconsin-2024-6">Joe Gow</a>, who taught communications at UW-La Crosse, should be stripped of his tenure and dismissed for producing porn videos with his wife, a fellow academic named Carmen Wilson, and uploading them to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/pornhub-is-awash-in-lawsuits-unverified-videos-2024-7">Pornhub</a>. The productions — with titles like "Juicy Anniversary" and "Vacation Sex" — featured Gow and Wilson having sex in a variety of racy scenarios, often with big-name porn stars.Gow had been fired from his position as chancellor of UW-La Crosse, a school of 11,000 students on the banks of the Mississippi River, after someone saw the videos and forwarded them to his boss. But dismissing a tenured professor is far more complicated than firing a top executive. Academic tenure is one of the strongest job protections you can get in America. It's effectively a lifetime appointment, designed to enable professors to teach views that might be unpopular or controversial. "It allows professors to speak truth to power, without fearing that they may lose their jobs for offending <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-college-sports-change-donor-fatigue-nil-recruiting-student-athletes-2024-6">donors</a> and the university and lawmakers," says Zach Greenberg of the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression. "It's unprecedented whenever a tenured professor gets fired. It's only happened a couple times in the history of Wisconsin."The university, calling Gow's behavior "abhorrent," went all out to make the case that he should be fired. "We don't want to be known as Porn U," said Betsy Morgan, who replaced Gow as interim chancellor. The university hired a white-shoe <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mass-torts-lawsuits-lawyers-settlements-strippers-hard-partying-money-2024-9">law firm</a> to scour 11 hours' worth of Gow and Wilson's videos and their self-published memoirs, "Married with Benefits" and "Monogamy with Benefits: How Porn Enriches Our Relationship." The firm produced a 318-page report brimming with detailed descriptions of the sexual techniques Gow enjoyed, along with pages of sex-toy ads that were sent to his work email. In March, Morgan started proceedings to dismiss Gow, charging him with unethical conduct, refusal to cooperate with the investigation, and violation of workplace policies. (Gow, the investigation revealed, had used a campus copier to print a vegan cookbook.)Gow was unapologetic. He declared that he had no plans to stop making porn and argued that the university was violating his <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tiktok-ban-bill-is-first-amendment-disaster-may-survive-courts-2024-4">First Amendment</a> rights. By the time the board of regents met to hear the case and issue its decision, the battle had devolved into a rancorous, often surreal showdown over the future of academic freedom in America. With private and state universities embroiled in debates over "woke indoctrination" and <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/university-overreaction-pro-palestinian-protests-police-arrests-dissent-expert-2024-5">campus protests</a>, many academics feared that Gow's case could set a sweeping precedent that tenured professors can be fired over anything in their private lives that universities find inappropriate."It's a violation of academic freedom," says Tom Ginsburg, a law professor and faculty director of the Forum for Free Inquiry and Expression at the University of Chicago. "He's being fired for embarrassing behavior outside the workplace, but there's no end of such behavior. So once we go down this route, universities can find a pretextual reason for firing almost anyone."The opening round in the battle over Gow's professorship took place at a hearing in June. The session, held in a windowless conference room of a sports arena in Onalaska, began with the bang of a gavel wielded by a UW-La Crosse biology professor. Gow was being tried not before a judge or jury but by a faculty committee made up of five of his colleagues.The university began by arguing that Gow, as a state employee, enjoyed no right to freedom of speech. Wade Harrison, the <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guide-moving-abroad-for-college-according-to-university-advisors-diploma-2024-9">university's</a> general counsel, cited San Diego v. Roe, a case in which a police officer was fired for selling videos of himself masturbating while wearing his police uniform, in effect profiting from his position.Donald Downs, a First Amendment scholar and emeritus professor at the university, told me after the hearing he found that argument alarming. The San Diego case shouldn't apply to Gow, he said, for one big reason: Police officers don't have academic freedom. "If our job is going to be seen as no different from the police officer or any other regular job out there," Downs argued, "then we're not going to be able to do our job."<div type="image" title="Joe Gow and wife" height="1822" width="2763" msid="114188637" hostid="261" sizebytes="723682"></div>The university tried to prove that Gow had damaged its reputation, claiming that several top donors had threatened to stop giving if the star of "Bedroom Shenanigans" was allowed to teach undergrads. Harrison also placed Gow's memoirs on trial. He recited a passage in which Gow — under the nom de plume Jay Hart — hires "Tom," a male stripper, "to perform sex acts" with his wife."In 'Monogamy with Benefits' you wrote that all events described are true," Harrison said. "Do you stand by that statement?""No," Gow retorted. "We should have said 'based on a true story.'"Harrison displayed several ads Gow had received from sex-toy companies. "Do you ever get email messages you never asked for? I believe we call it spam," Gow responded. "So you would fire someone for junk email?"The university then trotted out Jerry Bui, a forensic investigator who had raked through Gow's and Wilson's work computers. The strongest evidence of misconduct he could find was that the couple had "automatic logins" to a couple of porn sites. Though he couldn't find any browsing history of the sites, Bui speculated that Gow may have used "incognito mode" while watching porn at work or erased his browser history to cover his tracks.Gow, in his closing argument, dismissed the trial as a sham. "Tenure is based on the quality of one's teaching, research, and service," he told the committee. "This fruitless exercise has nothing to do with that."The committee, unswayed, voted unanimously that Gow should be fired. They argued that Gow had used his academic position to promote his porn, because in some videos, during foreplay, he mentioned his "Midwestern location" and "academic career." They also accused him of exploiting his public ouster as chancellor to boost his profile as a porn star.But the committee's decision was only a recommendation. More than two months later, Gow faced a second tribunal, before the board of regents for the state's university system: 17 executives, attorneys, and public servants and one dairy farmer who gathered in Madison to hear the case. The regents had made their position clear in a brief filed before the hearing. "The survival of a public university is dependent on legislative funding, grant funding, tuition revenue, and donations," they wrote. "Gow's behavior, left to continue, could negatively affect all four."At his first hearing, Gow had defended himself. Before the regents, he was represented by Mark Leitner, a partner at a top Milwaukee law firm. Leitner argued that the university was committing a textbook violation of free-speech rights. "We don't need the First Amendment to protect 'The Star-Spangled Banner,'" he said. "We need the First Amendment precisely when the danger of stifling controversial, unpopular speech is at its highest."But what's the danger of stifling porn? Leitner presented Gow's videos as part of his broader advocacy of nonmonogamy. "There is no doubt that sexual conduct is a matter of importance to people," Leitner told the regents. "Simply because Dr. Gow's views on what promotes a healthy and stable marriage do not comport with the views of the majority of society — that doesn't matter." Harrison, the university's counsel, dismissed the point: "Dr. Gow would love to, you know, try to rely on a hypertechnical First Amendment argument to get around his bad conduct.""It's not a hypertechnical argument," Leitner said. "It goes to the heart of what we're all about in this state and in this country."After Leitner concluded, the regents were given a chance to ask questions. They had none.Aweek later, the regents met again to decide Gow's fate. After deliberating in private for half an hour, they cast their votes one by one. Seventeen supported firing Gow. One abstained.Gow's 40-year career in academia was over. He also forfeited some $300,000 worth of accrued sick leave and other benefits.<div type="image" title="Joe Gow and wife" height="1536" width="2308" msid="114188633" hostid="261" sizebytes="93022"></div>As Gow left the hearing, walking hand in hand with Wilson, a phalanx of photographers snapped pictures as if they were the Bennifer of Wisconsin. Gow pulled out a prepared statement. Calling the regents a "board of hypocrites," he accused them of breaching the university's commitment to academic freedom and of caving to pressure from Republican state senators who had called for his dismissal. The regents, Gow said, "are willing to fire me for the short-term goodwill they get with the far right."On his two-hour ride home, Gow elaborated on the wider issues he believes are at stake. "There are many faculty who would say: Well, this guy, he's not one of us," he told me. "And that's unfortunate. Because if they can do this to me, they could do it to any tenured professor. Academia is not a law firm or a bank or an insurance company. We're in the truth business. We are dedicated to the fearless sifting and winnowing of the truth, and that's what this is supposed to be about."Gow's colleagues apparently didn't consider his porn videos the kind of expression that tenure is designed to protect: During his fight to remain on the faculty, none of them came to his defense in public. But Keith Whittington, a Yale law professor and founding chair of the Academic Freedom Alliance, sees Gow's case as setting a dangerous precedent. "University trustees are now going to be faced with the problem of explaining why it is that we're going to tolerate other members of the faculty posting controversial content," he says. He puts Gow's online porn in the same category as "posting inflammatory personal, political opinions on social media." In the wake of Gow's dismissal, he says, making such distinctions "is going to be a hard line to maintain."But the fight may not be over. Gow plans to file a federal lawsuit against the university, alleging a violation of his First Amendment rights. And in the meantime, he and Wilson plan to keep exercising those rights. Since being outed, they've released adult videos like "Top 10 Squirting Orgasms and Cumshots" and "Our Honeymoon with the Porn Stars," as well as tamer cooking-show fare like "Making Plant-Based Egg Salad." The videos pull in as much as $3,000 a month on OnlyFans, and the couple is getting requests to create customized content, including foot-fetish videos and gay scenes with Gow. But thrilling as their middle-aged sexual awakening has been, they say, it doesn't compensate for the loss of Gow's professorship."This is 2024," Gow says. "We thought we had come a ways in Wisconsin from the McCarthy era. "You queue to get in the door, you queue at the register, you queue to get out. You don't have e-commerce, or if you have e-commerce, you pay a premium."Consumers deciding where to shop long faced trade-offs between convenience, quality, and price.Sol Price — the godfather of the club store, progenitor of Costco, and acknowledged inspiration for Sam Walton to launch Sam's Club — was able to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/founding-history-of-costco">crack the code on quality and price</a> at the sacrifice of convenience. Other retail concepts have achieved convenience and price at the expense of quality. Still others offer convenience and quality for premium prices.In short, US shoppers often face a "pick two" scenario, but Nicholas said it doesn't have to be that way. With the help of the modern technology found in the newly opened location, he believes shoppers can enjoy all three."The total club channel is doing OK — it's growing faster than retail — but it hasn't been where innovation has lived," he said.One advantage Sam's Club has over most of its rivals is its massive parent company: Walmart, the world's largest retailer."The beauty of being owned by Walmart for us is we get to leverage a big supply chain that's automated, we get to leverage technology, which is front-end and back-end, and we don't have to pay for it," Nicholas said.<div type="image" title="Sam's Club shoppers visit the newly opened location in Grapevine, Texas." height="2250" width="3000" msid="114428156" hostid="261" sizebytes="863370"></div>"We don't have these massive investments that we have to make. There's a pizza robot in the café that can knock out 100 pies per hour, RFID sensors on every aisle, computer vision pallet scanners on the loading docks, and a fleet of battery-powered coolers that will extend the club's delivery range for perishables.It's Sam's Club's first new store in seven years and a model for the roughly 30 new locations and an unspecified number of remodels <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-sams-club-plans-open-30-new-warehouses-us-2023-1">planned for the next five years</a>.Walmart, for its part, has a clear incentive to experiment with new technology at Sam's Club. After growing sales by nearly 50% over the past five years, Sam's Club's $86 billion in revenue is still less than half of what Costco's North American business makes. There's plenty of ground to gain.Several shoppers told BI they've been using the new tech at other Dallas-area stores and that it generally <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sams-club-ai-receipt-checks-exit-success-2024-4">worked as expected</a>, apart from a few hiccups due to the larger-than-usual crowd at the grand opening. Many of the shoppers had Costco memberships too. One shopper told BI he planned to cancel his.Sam's Club has also been a test-bed for retail concepts that eventually find their way into Walmart's 4,600 US stores and beyond. That's what I hope, and so that's my job," he said. "This is a glimpse of that."

It was the only job with an increase of over 50%, but solar photovoltaic installers came close with a projected employment increase of 48%."The increased demand for electricity is related to growth in electric vehicles and new data centers," the news release said. While that's far beyond the projected increases of other occupations, there were 15 other jobs where employment is projected to jump by over 100,000. Cory Stahle, an Indeed economist, previously told Business Insider healthcare is one key industry where there could continue to be long-term shortages."We see the nursing shortage story has been a multi-year story at this point, and we continue to see nurses saying that they want to leave, they're burned out," Stahle said.Nurse practitioners and some of the other fastest-growing jobs have median annual wages in the six figures, based on wages from the Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program.The 13 fastest-growing occupations have median annual wages above the median for all occupations, which is $48,060. The median for solar photovoltaic installers, which is the second-fastest growing job, is close to the overall median, though, at $48,800. Home health and personal care aides, as well as veterinary assistants and laboratory animal caretakers, are projected to grow faster than many other occupations, but they have lower pay than the overall median.

Instead of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/chatgpt-jobs-at-risk-replacement-artificial-intelligence-ai-labor-trends-2023-02">killing jobs</a>, generative <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ai-frontier-crowded-winners-losers-2024-8">AI</a> is fueling a surprising job boom, according to venture capitalist <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-rice-google-marc-andreessen-kevin-weil-2024-10">Marc Andreessen</a>.In a recent podcast, the a16z cofounder said tech companies are hiring thousands of highly educated workers to help them solve a major bottleneck in the development of AI models.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-ai-adjusted-earnings-groupon-wework-accounting-2024-10">OpenAI</a> and Google are <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/openai-orion-model-scaling-law-silicon-valley-chatgpt-2024-11">struggling to significantly improve</a> their next AI models, according to multiple media reports this week. That's despite sucking up all human data from the internet for free and building huge, expensive clusters of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gpu-rich-vs-gpu-poor-tech-companies-in-each-group-2023-8">GPUs</a> to train these models.Part of the problem, according to Andreessen, is that there's not much new, quality human data left to use. That's what makes these AI models smart, and without that, OpenAI and others are hitting a worrying wall. "These systems are a function of their data more than anything else. They're a function of the training data," Andreessen explained. "And basically, the big models are trained by scraping the internet and pulling in basically all human-generated training data, all human-generated text, and increasingly video and audio and everything else. And there's just literally only so much of that."Ben Horowitz, Andreessen's cofounder at a16z, chimed in, saying, "We're running out of human knowledge."One solution is to hire a bunch of humans to literally churn out new knowledge and then pump that into the AI model training process. "They're so gated on data that they're literally going out and hiring thousands of programmers and doctors and lawyers to actually hand write answers to questions for the purpose of being able to train their AIs," Andreessen said. "It's at that level of constraints."This is not the future that was feared when OpenAI's ChatGPT burst onto the scene almost two years ago. Since then, dire warnings of job destruction have been issued, with lists (published by Business Insider and other publications) predicting roles in areas such as coding and law would succumb to the AI job apocalypse. At least for now, some of these professions are needed to help feed new AI models with fresh, accurate human data. The irony of this was not lost on Andreessen and Horowitz, who chuckled during the podcast."Well, actually, this is also part of one of the big fears is AI driven unemployment, and the irony is what's happening today is an AI hiring boom," Andreessen said. "And a big part of the AI hiring boom is actually hiring the experts to actually craft the answers to be able to train the AI."
