Besides the JioPhone, Reliance also launched its cable TV device. While launching the JioPhone, RIL Chairman <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword> said it will reinvent the feature phone and from August 15th, Indians will have access to highest quality and quantity, affordable and unlimited data. The JioPhone will be available for free but buyers will have to deposit a fee of Rs 1500 which will be refundable after three years on returning the phone. The pre-booking will start from August 24 and will be available from September this year. While announcing the specifications of the JioPhone, Esha Ambani said, “It is made in India by the young Indian.” Here are the features of the JioPhone: <ol><li>Reliance JioPhone is 4G VoLTE feature phone and sports a square design, along with a 2.4-inch QVGA display. </li><li>It will come with an Alphanumeric keypad, dedicated button for torchlight, headphone jack, microphone, speaker, SD card slot, etc.</li><li>JioPhone supports all languages, and users can speak to the device via voice commands. </li><li>You can browse internet on the JioPhone as well and comes pre-loaded with Jio apps. </li><li>JioPhone has SOS feature, which can be activated by pressing 5.</li><li>Jio has launched recharge plans as well sachet packs, which start at Rs 153 per month. It gives users unlimited data on this 4G VoLTE feature phone.</li></ol>

The smartphone will feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. We already know that the JioPhone Next will come with optimisations for low-light photography and it will also have an HDR mode. The JioPhone Next will also have India-specific Snapchat lenses integrated into the phone’s camera. The JioPhone Next will feature an HD (720p) display although the screen size isn’t known yet. It will be powered by the Qualcomm 215 Mobile Platform. On the software front, the JioPhone Next will run Android 11 (Go Edition) out-of-the-box. More features on the JioPhone Next include dual SIM support, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2. The smartphone will also come with Android Go apps pre-installed such as Camera Go. Rahman also spotted a “DuoGo” app on the JioPhone Next but it seems different from the Duo Go app. Customisations for Indian users As for what’s confirmed for the JioPhone Next, it will be highly customised for Indian users. Google features such as Read Aloud and Translate Now will be integrated in the OS. These features will work with any text on the phone screen in addition to web pages, apps, messages and photos as well. Google Assistant will also be optimised for Jio-related queries like playing music on JioSaavn or checking your balance on My Jio. JioPhone Next smartphone specifications revealed ahead of release

JioPhone Next launch delayed until Diwali due to chip shortage

Conglomerate <keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> Industries Ltd (RIL) on Friday reported a rise of 46 per cent growth in its year-on-year consolidated net profit for the quarter ended September 30, 2021. The net profit, on a YoY basis, rose to ₹15,479 crore. In a regulatory filing, the company reported that its consolidated gross revenue for the quarter rose to ₹191,532 crore, higher by 49.2 per cent. Besides, the consolidated EBITDA for the quarter rose by 30 per cent to ₹3 0,283 crore. On a standalone basis, net profit for the quarter was higher by 44.1 per cent year-on-year to ₹9,228 crore. Furthermore, the gross revenue on a standalone basis for the quarter rose by 68.8 per cent to ₹108,750 crore. "As the pandemic retreats, I am pleased that Reliance has posted a strong performance in 2Q FY22. This demonstrates the inherent strengths of our businesses and the robust recovery of the Indian and global economies," Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani said. "All our businesses reflect growth over pre-Covid levels. Our operational and financial performance reflects sharp recovery in the retail segment and sustained growth in Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) and Digital Services business." Ambani said: "Our O2C business benefited from sharp recovery in demand across products and higher transportation fuel margins." "Reliance Retail continues to grow on the back of rapid expansion of both physical stores and digital offerings resulting in healthy growth in revenues and margin expansion. Jio, our digital services business, continues to transform the broadband market in India and set new benchmarks for the industry." He further said that RIL continues to make steady progress in accelerating its foray into new energy and new materials business. Jio will launch 5G for the entire country by December 2023: Mukesh Ambani

<ul><li>Reliance has closed 26 <keyword id="6391790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="deals">deals</keyword> in the last 24 months, nearly half of which have been in the telecom and media space. </li><li>The new businesses span from music streaming apps to cable networks to telecom software and hardware units. </li><li>Out of a total investment spend of $5.3 billion in the last five years, a staggering 79% has been allocated towards deals in the telecom sector, according to data compiled by Morgan Stanley. </li></ul><keyword id="6355199" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>’ (RIL) mergers and acquisitions division has had a pretty busy go of it as of late. In the last 24 months, the company, India’s largest by market capitalisation, has closed 26 deals. Of the 26, 15 deals have contributed the most both in terms of deal value as well as in redefining RIL as a company. Some of the new businesses bought over by RIL span from a media production house to music streaming apps to cable networks to telecom software and hardware units. These 15 deals include a currently-stalled bid to buy Reliance Communication’s spectrum and the sale of <a href="https://in.reuters.com/article/reliance-shale/reliance-sells-texas-shale-assets-for-100-million-idINKBN1H31MS">two energy assets</a>, which were part of the company’s mainstay business up until then. Up until a few years ago, RIL was a predominantly an energy major. While oil refining and petrochemicals remain the cash generating units, Ambani is expanding his empire with an eye on future. As he has often said in the recent past, “data is the new oil.” Out of a total investment spend of $5.3 billion in the last five years, a staggering 79% has been allocated towards deals in the telecom sector, according to data compiled by Morgan Stanley. The rerating of the company, as a technology and consumer play, though on the cards, will be a gradual process that will happen over the next few years, Vinod Sharma, head of capital markets strategy and the private clients group at HDFC Securities <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/energy/oil-gas/why-mukesh-ambani-led-ril-needs-to-be-viewed-as-a-tech-and-consumer-player/articleshow/66395674.cms">told</a> the Economic Times. The reduced competition in the space is expected to hurt broadcasters, who will have lesser negotiating power when it comes to finalising subscription revenue packages. Another notable deal was the <a href="https://www.businesstoday.in/sectors/telecom/reliance-industries-signs-usd-74-million-acquisition-deal-radisys-to-boost-5g-iot-push/story/279756.html">$74 million </a>acquisition of a 100% stake in Radisys, a US telecom equipment manufacturer, in June 2018. The deal will help Reliance Jio build its 5G and Internet-of-Things capability. Reliance’s bid to boost its technology offerings is also indicated in deals with smaller amounts. It’s taking a bet on relatively nascent companies and technologies as part of a larger plan to integrate complementary services under its telecom and media business - becoming a software developer and hardware manufacturer in the process. For example, it spent $7 million to buy a minority stake in the US-based<a href="https://telecom.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/reliance-retail-buys-16-stake-in-kaios-maker-for-7-million/63238579"> KaiOS Technologies</a>, the company that produces the software for its JioPhone. In July 2017, Reliance also bought a 25% stake in Balaji Telefilms for $64 million. The deals are aimed at the production and distribution of content for Jio subscribers. Aside from these deals, Reliance’s existing retail business is also in the process of expansion, ahead of a possible IPO. And Ambani is making serious moves in this space too, with the recently announced foray into e-commerce. New Delhi, Jun 24 () Reliance Jio would play a key role in the development of the 5G ecosystem in India based on the market dynamics, Reliance Industries said in its latest annual report. On the issue of floor price for mobile services, the company noted that market dynamics have improved in the recent past as reflected by December tariff hikes by operators. The government has also expressed its intentions of conducting the next round of spectrum auctions during the fiscal year 2020-21, it said. "Jio with its 5G-ready network and extensive fiber assets, would play a key role in the development of the 5G ecosystem in India, based on market dynamics," the annual report stated. In his letter to shareholders, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that there are still millions of 2G phone users, who cannot use internet, highlighting urgent need for India to transition fully from 2G to the 4G era and beyond, and underlining the opportunity Jio has in such transformation. "Over the past two years, JioPhone has successfully transitioned approximately 100 million erstwhile feature phone (2G) users to the 4G network," he said. Ambani noted that Jio's success in building technology specifically for India and its ability to proliferate across the country has attracted global technology leaders – Facebook and Microsoft - to forge partnerships with it. Reliance Jio continues to add subscribers at a rate unprecedented in the telecom world with 387.5 million mobile data subscribers (as of March 31, 2020), Ambani said. Describing Jio as a key catalyst in creating the broadband data market in India, he said it is now the number one mobile telecom operator in the country by both adjusted gross revenue (AGR) and subscribers. Reliance Jio is rolling out its state-of-the-art wireline services across homes and enterprises, he said adding all this will help place a strong foundation for offering platform-based digital services. According to the report, Jio connected about one million homes with JioFiber services until March 2020. Ambani further said that rollout of the digital commerce initiative will open up further growth opportunities for the organised retail business, leveraging the strength of consumer and digital platforms. "Reliance Retail and WhatsApp have entered into a commercial partnership agreement to further accelerate Reliance Retail's Digital Commerce business on the JioMart platform using WhatsApp and to support small businesses on WhatsApp," he said. Further, Jio said that market dynamics have improved in the recent past, as reflected by tariff hikes in December 2019, where all the operators revised their tariff plans upwards by up to 40 per cent. "During the year, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has also initiated consultation process on feasibility of establishing a floor price for mobility services in the country," it said, adding that Jio would continue to actively engage with the regulator and industry stakeholders to drive growth for all. On the issue of call connect charges, where interconnect usage charge (IUC) would be reduced to zero with effect from January 1, 2021, Jio said it accordingly introduced a charge of 6 paise/minute on all off-net outgoing voice minutes to pass through the impact of change in regulatory stance on IUC in October 2019. "This has led to a significant improvement in voice traffic mix as misusers of free voice services have left the network and Jio is now a net receiver of IUC. Jio continues to believe that transition to the BAK (Bill and Keep) regime will hasten the adoption of more efficient technologies like VoLTE, which have negligible cost for carrying and servicing essential voice services," RIL said. In the recent months, Reliance Industries has secured over Rs 1.15 lakh crore from global tech investors including Facebook by selling a tad less than a quarter of its digital business and raised Rs 53,124 crore by selling shares to existing investors in the past days.
